Democratic lawmaker calls Republican Sen. Ted Cruz a 'f[***]ing baby killer' in the wake of a deadly Texas school shooting
On the heels of a deadly mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday, Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego of Arizona blasted GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, calling him a "baby killer."
"F[***] you @tedcruz you care about a fetus but you will let our children get slaughtered. Just get your ass to Cancun. You are useless," Gallego tweeted.
Gallego made the comment in response to a tweet that quoted Cruz as saying "when there's a murderer of this kind, you see politicians try to politicize it, you see Democrats and a lot of folks in the media whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens."
"Just to be clear fuck you @tedcruz you fucking baby killer," Gallego added in another post.
Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and others pounced in response to a tweet in which Cruz said that he and his wife were praying for kids and families in the wake of the shooting.
"Heidi & I are fervently lifting up in prayer the children and families in the horrific shooting in Uvalde. We are in close contact with local officials, but the precise details are still unfolding. Thank you to heroic law enforcement & first responders for acting so swiftly," Cruz tweeted.
Ocasio-Cortez replied by tweeting, "Aren’t you slated to headline a speaking gig for the NRA in three days - in Houston, no less? You can do more than pray. Faith without works is dead."
"Their blood, your hands," George Takei declared in response to Cruz's tweet.
Roland Martin called Cruz "trash."
Rob Reiner took to Twitter after the mass shooting to blame the GOP for children being killed by guns. "The blood of every child that dies of gun violence in this country is on the hands of the Republican Party," Reiner tweeted.
Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California said that anybody who proposes additional firearms as a solution to the problem of shootings is "a sociopath."
"We’ve had 2 decades of doing things the GOP-NRA way, maybe it’s time we tried something else because this sure as s[***] is not working and the body count is only growing. If you’re response to these mass shootings is “we need more guns,” you’re a sociopath," Swalwell tweeted.
Rep. Jim Jordan indicates that Republicans are open to impeaching Biden if they retake Congress in 2022
Republican leaders in Congress are open to impeaching President Joe Biden if they are able to retake control of the legislative branch after the 2022 midterm elections.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R – Ohio) currently serves as the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee and is positioned to take control of the committee in 2023 should the Republican Party retake control of Congress.
According to the Washington Times, Jordan believes the GOP should seriously consider the possibility of impeaching Biden for his “failures in office, most notably his administration’s inability to stop a massive influx of illegal immigration through the southern border.”
Jordan said that under his leadership the judiciary committee would lead an impeachment trial but the decision to “try and remove” Biden from office would need to be agreed upon by every Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The conference has to decide,” Jordan said. “You have to have complete buy-in from the entire conference and the leadership of our conference.”
In late September of 2021, several members of the U.S. House of Representatives filed articles of impeachment against Biden in response to his administration’s botched withdrawal from Afghanistan and his failure in handling the longstanding immigration crisis at the southern border.
The effort, according to the New York Post, was led by Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio) who said, “I filed three articles of impeachment against President Biden based on what I believe to be clear violations of his duties as president.”
Gibbs was joined by Reps. Andy Biggs from Arizona and Brian Babin and Randy Weber of Texas.
“[Biden’s] willful negligence of the border crisis is a failure to maintain and defend American sovereignty. Biden’s attempts to extend a federal eviction moratorium despite the Supreme Court’s warning and his own admission that he has no power to do so is a blatant and intentional action that violates the separation of powers,” Gibbs continued.
He added, “Finally, the withdrawal from Afghanistan was not just a disaster. By pulling military personnel out before the evacuation of American civilians, President Biden shamefully left our own citizens in danger.”
Jordan’s interest in impeaching Biden is also shared by his colleague in the U.S. Senate, Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
Cruz believes there is a chance the GOP will move to impeach and remove Biden from office should they retake Congress.
He said, “Yeah, I do think there’s a chance of that, whether it’s justified or not.”
Ted Cruz calls for American energy independence in proposed legislation
Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz has introduced a bill to restore American energy independence as the global energy sector experiences ongoing difficulties in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Fox Business reported that Cruz announced the “Energy Freedom Act” in a Friday press release that he also used to criticize President Joe Biden for allowing America to fall behind on its ability to export fuel.
Cruz said that the Biden administration has caused America to lose its “status as a net petroleum exporter.”
In the press release, Cruz said, “These policies have poured billions of dollars into countries such as Russia and Iran, which use those funds to attack our allies and undermine the national security of America.”
“President Biden has imposed more restrictions on U.S. oil companies than he has on Russian oil,” Cruz said, “With Iran, he has looked the other way as the regime busted through sanctions and raised their exports to more than one million barrels per day for the first time in almost three years.”
Cruz said that should his legislation pass, it would provide an economic boon for the country while enabling the United States to reduce trade with countries it hopes to punish on the international stage.
Cruz said that his bill is focused on “[reversing] Biden’s actions so we can restore American energy independence” and that it “won’t cost taxpayers a dime” While creating “Billions in revenue in the coming years’ For the United States “by expediting permitting, leasing, safe new pipelines, and exports, and providing much needed regulatory certainty.”
He said, “It would create new jobs, lower energy costs, and because modern energy production in the United States is far cleaner than in any other country by every measure, it would help the environment. The Energy Freedom Act would put a stop to the Biden administration’s sabotage of the American energy industry, and Congress should take it up without delay.”
Cruz also recently amplified statements made by tech CEO Elon Musk calling for American energy independence.
Musk took to Twitter and said, “Hate to say it, but we need to increase oil [and] gas output immediately. Extraordinary times demand extraordinary measures.”
Responding emphatically, Cruz said that he “couldn’t agree more.”
Couldn't agree more! Unleash American energy NOW!https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1499907549746937860\u00a0\u2026— Ted Cruz (@Ted Cruz) 1646487978
Some of the Biden administration’s first actions in office were to restrict American oil drilling. Upon entering the White House, Biden revoked the Keystone XL pipeline’s permit to transport fossil fuels and moved to prevent the issuing of new leases to drill for oil and gas on federal lands.
These steps considerably reduced the amount of energy being domestically produced and has led to American leadership considering the purchase of oil from hostile nations like Iran.
