Derek Hough says his wife needed 'an emergency craniectomy'

Derek Hough of "Dancing with the Stars" fame announced that his wife Hayley Erbert Hough needed an emergency surgery but is stable.

"At the end of last night's tour performance in Washington D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition," Hough said in a written statement posted to Instagram on Thursday. "I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time."

According to the Cleveland Clinic, a craniectomy involves removing part of the patient's skull.

"A craniectomy is a type of major brain surgery where a surgeon removes part of your skull to access your brain," the Cleveland Clinic states. "Your care team might consider a craniectomy to reduce swelling, pressure or bleeding (extra fluid) on your brain. Pressure in your skull from swelling or extra fluid can be life-threatening or cause brain damage because there isn’t a lot of room between your brain and your skull. Any pressure is dangerous and can affect how your brain functions."

Hough and his wife have been on a tour, and the tour schedule indicates that there was a show in Oxon Hill, Maryland, on Wednesday.

"I was in DC last night. The show was absolutely amazing… Hayley was fabulous… I am so sorry this happened. We were sad to not see her at the end of the show. I had a feeling something happened… Many prayers and sending love," someone wrote in response to Hough's Instagram post about his wife's medical emergency.

"Sending you all the love I have in my soul. Prayers for a speedy recovery," DWTS host Alfonso Ribeiro wrote. Hough's sister Julianne Hough, who like her brother also has a long history with the DWTS program, cohosted the latest DWTS season with Ribeiro.

Longtime 'Dancing with the Stars' judge dead at age 78

Longtime "Dancing with the Stars" judge Len Goodman passed away on Saturday at the age of 78.

The man had bone cancer, according to BBC News.

Goodman, who had been a fixture on "Dancing with the Stars" since it started in 2005, announced last year that it was his last season with the program. He explained that he wanted to spend more time with his family in Britain. He described his time on the show as a "wonderful experience."

Tributes for Goodman poured in on social media.

"Len Goodman will always be an icon in the world of ballroom dance, and we were lucky to have him as part of our ‘Dancing with the Stars’ family for 31 seasons," the show noted. "He was warm and caring, and always delivered genuine guidance. We are devastated by the news of his passing and our hearts are with his family during this very difficult time."

"A Dancer. A teacher. A refined gentleman. A wonderful storyteller. A special soul. A mentor. A family man. And… A treasured friend," fellow DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba wrote on Instagram. "Saying goodbye at the end of last season broke my heart. But today's news has shattered it all over again. I can't believe that you're gone."

"Heart broken by the news of our dear friend and mentor Len Goodman," DWTS judge Derek Hough wrote. "It's a gloomy morning here in Los Angeles which seems fitting after this heart breaking news. But when I think back at the memories we all shared with Len, his sense of humor, his smile and charm everything feels much brighter and full of sunshine."

DWTS judge Bruno Tonioli wrote of Goodman that "there will never be anyone like you you will always be my perfect 10."

Drag queen competes on a new season of 'Dancing with the Stars,' which is airing only on Disney+

One of the contestants on the latest season of "Dancing with the Stars" is a drag queen whose dance partner on the program is another man.

D.J. "Shangela" Pierce is the first first drag queen contestant to perform on the U.S. edition of the international franchise, according to NBC News.

In the past, the program has aired on ABC, but it is now available only on Disney+.

"This is something totally different because I'm a drag entertainer who will be standing up there," Shangela said, according to USA Today. "On the dancing nights, I'm going to be dressed as the doll, honey. That's my fiercest form as an entertainer. When I'm in drag, my pronouns are she/her. So seeing a drag queen with a male dancer is going to be something powerful. This is going to be a great space and an amazing platform to showcase that kind of representation."

Shangela and dance partner Gleb Savchenko received scores of seven from each of the judges after their initial performance on the program.

"It was so incredibly special because I think about all the queens that ever wanted to be in this space that never got the opportunity," Shangela said, according to People. "Maybe by seeing me and seeing how we just showed up as our true authentic self tonight and were accepted and cheered on, that they know that they can do it, too."

"My heart was racing like crazy but when the announcer guy started the intro, in my mind I went into full on Beyoncé at the Super Bowl mode," Shangela wrote in an Instagram post. "I wanted to deliver y’all a moment that was worthy of all ur love and support, and also show people that might not be familiar or loving of drag queens, that we belong, and we know how to Turn The Party!"

With Drag Queen On ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ Disney Aims More Sexual Propaganda At Kids

Because 'DWTS' is considered a family-friendly show, children could watch the series on Disney Plus without parental knowledge.

JoJo Siwa makes ‘Dancing with the Stars’ history as she’s paired with a female dancing partner: ‘So excited’ to be ‘dancing with a girl’

Pop superstar JoJo Siwa will be one half of the first same-sex couple on ABC's hit show, "Dancing with the Stars," according to Variety.

ABC revealed the news during Thursday's Television Critics Association gathering.

What are the details?

Siwa, who came out as pansexual in April, said, "It's really special that not only now do I get to share with the world that you get to love who you want to love, but also you get a dance with whom you want to dance. There's a lot of barriers that we're going to have to break through — who leads, how do you dress, what shoes do you wear? But I think it's all something that I'm looking forward to. It's going to be tricky, but it's going to give so much to people out there — people of the LGBTQ community, people who feel just a little different. It's going to give them a sense of happiness."

In April, Siwa announced that she was in a same-sex relationship with Florida native Kylie Prew.

At the time, she said, "It's like, I want to figure [sexuality] out. And I have this joke. Her name is Kylie. And so I say that I'm Ky-sexual. But like, I don't know, bisexual, pansexual, queer, lesbian, gay, straight."

"I always just say 'gay' because it just kind of covers it or 'queer' because I think the keyword is cool," Siwa admitted at the time. "I like 'queer.' Technically, I would say that I'm pansexual, because that's how I have always been my whole life, is just like, my human is my human. And if that person happened to be a boy, great, and if that person happened to be a girl, great!"

Variety reported Thursday that when she first received an email asking if she would be a part of the long-running show's new season, she was offered the choice of whether to be partnered with a male or a female dancer.

"I want to make it OK for the people who come after me," she said of her decision to dance with another woman. "I want to make everything OK for the people who come after me."

What else?

In a statement, GLAAD said that Siwa's groundbreaking decision was to be applauded for uplifting the LGBTQ community.

“The show has such a wide, far-reaching audience and there is a real opportunity here for people to celebrate the same-sex pairing and root for JoJo and all LGBTQ young people," a GLAAD spokesperson said.

The remainder of the Season 30 lineup will be announced Sept. 8. The dance competition show begins on Monday, Sept. 20.

In a promo video for the show, Siwa says, "I am so excited to be a part of this year's 'Dancing with the Stars,' season 30, and to be dancing with a girl, I think it's so cool."

"It's gonna be the best ever, I can't wait to just dance every single week, I can't wait to meet my partner, oh my gosh there are so many things I'm so excited for!" she gushed.

Bring on the sequins and the sparkles. ✨ We’re SIWA excited for this! 🎀 #DWTS @itsjojosiwa https://t.co/mzwezAm0An
