Darius Rucker turned himself in, law enforcement reportedly indicates
Darius Rucker, who has had great success both with the band Hootie & the Blowfish and as a solo country music artist, was released on bond after being arrested in Tennessee on Thursday. The celebrity was arrested on two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance as well as a count of violating state vehicle registration law, People reported, citing the Williamson County Sheriff's Office.
An arrest warrant had been issued in December 2023, according to WCIV. He turned himself in to authorities on Thursday, a Franklin Police Department spokesperson noted Friday, according to the outlet, which also reported that, according to an affidavit, Rucker was pulled over in February 2023, and 14 pills and a suspected THC vape pen were discovered in a vehicle search. He reportedly indicated that his girlfriend had provided the items and that he did not know what the pills were.
Rucker allegedly removed something from his pocket that an officer indicated looked like a small marijuana blunt, documents indicate, according to WBTW. When questioned as to whether it was straight marijuana, the music figure reportedly answered "yes."
While the celebrity was released at the time, the pills were reportedly tested and determined to be psilocin.
"Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges," attorney Mark Puryear said in a statement, according to reports.
Rucker recently got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"People talk about streaming and everything, but radio is still king, still how you make it in country music. You got to work with them, let them see that you still care. I think when you stop caring, they stop caring, too," Rucker has said, according to Variety. "I don't know how much longer radio is gonna play me," he said, according to the outlet. "Right now, I'm trying to try to be one of the elder statesmen, because in country music you can do that — still go play arenas without having a hit. So I'm trying to get myself up to that point."
