Mother with concealed-carry license says she opened fire on male trying to climb through daughter's bedroom window

A mother with a concealed-carry license said she opened fire on a male trying to climb through her daughter's bedroom window in Chicago over the weekend.

"That motherly instincts kick in, so as soon as something happens, it's like fight or flight," the mother — who asked for anonymity — told WLS-TV.

'Try not to be out here committing crimes, especially trying to come into somebody's house, because you never know what's on the other side of that window.'

The mom told the station she's been a CCL holder for years and never had to fire her gun until Saturday night's incident at her South Shore apartment.

Her 18-year-old daughter had just returned to her bedroom after bathing just before 11 p.m., WLS said.

"So, I put the towel on, and I run out my room, and I ran right there. I'm like, 'Yo, somebody's trying to come through my window.' So, my mom immediately acted on it," the daughter told the station.

The mom told WLS, "He was, like, hanging on her window. I just told him that 'I have a gun. I'm going to shoot.' And he just didn't stop. I fired a warning shot. I didn't even know that he got hit."

Police soon found the 36-year-old suspect shot in the leg on East 69th Street near Oglesby, the station said, adding that he was taken to a hospital in fair condition. Charges were pending against the suspect Sunday night, WLS added.

The mother and daughter both had advice for the would-be intruder.

"Next time you think about coming through somebody's window, you just remember how that bullet felt," the daughter told the station.

Her mother added to WLS, "Try not to be out here committing crimes, especially trying to come into somebody's house, because you never know what's on the other side of that window."

She noted to the station that police confiscated her gun.

Dad tells cops he caught a rideshare driver sexually assaulting his daughter. So he did what dads do.

A father told police in Washington state he caught a rideshare driver sexually assaulting his daughter and got physical with the driver and fired his gun, the Olympian reported.

Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies around 1 a.m. Saturday were dispatched to Sixth Avenue Southeast and Old Pacific Highway — a fishing location on the Nisqually River — over a report of a weapons violation, the paper said.

The female's father told deputies he discovered his daughter being sexually assaulted, 'beat up the driver a little bit,' and fired the gun.

Two shell casings were found at the scene, the Olympian added.

A deputy who stopped a motorist attempting to flee the scene noticed the motorist was injured, Fox News reported, adding that detectives determined the motorist was a rideshare driver who had provided transportation to a "highly intoxicated female."

The driver had suffered injuries in a fight but wasn’t shot, Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Brooks said Sunday, according to the Olympian.

The female's father told deputies he discovered his daughter being sexually assaulted, “beat up the driver a little bit,” and fired the gun, Brooks told the paper, adding that the timing of the physical altercation and the gunshots wasn't clear.

The 58-year-old driver was treated for his injuries at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia and then booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping and second-degree rape, the Olympian reported.

Those with information about this incident should call the nonemergency dispatch line at 360-704-2740 or send an email to detectives@co.thurston.wa.us, the paper added.

How are observers reacting?

Nearly 1,000 comments so far have appeared underneath the Fox News story about the incident, which was published Monday on Yahoo News. As you might imagine, a number of commenters are sympathetic toward the father:

  • "The father did what every red-blooded American father would do to protect his daughter!" one commenter declared. "Kudos to him for being a real father!"
  • "The dad was defending protecting his daughter, and tried his best to stop the criminal assault in progress," another commenter said. "He saved his daughter's life."
  • "It's uplifting to have some good news for once," another commenter noted.
  • "It's Washington state, so the father's freedom is still up in the air, but great job dad," another commenter added. "Shame you didn't put him underground."
  • "I'm a progressive individual, but even I feel the dad was well within his rights as a father," another commenter stated.

Mom told her 7-year-old daughter to take purse from restaurant booth, police say. Things went downhill from there.

Police said a 27-year-old mother told her 7-year-old daughter to take a purse from a Georgia restaurant booth earlier this month, WAGA-TV reported.

What are the details?

After surveillance video was released showing what authorities said is Kenya Butler on March 2 encouraging her child to take an unattended purse from a booth at the Juicy Crab in Newnan, the station said a viewer helped lead investigators to Butler.

"After the story aired in the media, we were able to identify Kenya Butler as the offender in this case," Det. Taylor Dalton of the Newnan Police Department told WAGA.

Butler — a mother of three from Union City — is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and theft by taking, the station said, adding that her 7-year-old daughter is not in trouble.

Police said Butler is seen on the video taking the girl over to the empty booth, saying something to the girl, and watching as the girl leaves with the purse, WAGA reported.

That's not all

What's more, police added to the station that a group with Butler quickly left the restaurant after the purse was taken — skipping out on a bill of more than $500.

WAGA said investigators have been trying to identify a man seen in the surveillance video who they believe is responsible for the bill. The station said anyone who can help police identify the man should call the Newnan Police Department.

How are people reacting?

Commenters on WAGA's Facebook page were none too pleased with Mom. Here's a sampling:

  • "I'm so glad that they got her. The whole story made me sick. Sorry parenting," one commenter wrote.
  • "Look at the example you have set for your children," another user said. "Now they’re probably have to be raised by somebody else until you get yourself together ... this should’ve been your job, raising your own children and giving them positive values in life. Did you know that one of the Ten commandments is do not steal[?] We pray for you; now you’ve made this bed hard for yourself. I hope and pray you get some help!!"
  • "That baby will never forget that," another commenter observed. "Very sad."

Dad enters HS classroom, confronts student for allegedly bothering his daughter. Dad now charged for making threats, assault.

A New Jersey dad was caught on video entering a high school classroom and confronting a student for allegedly bothering his daughter — and now that dad faces multiple charges, including threatening a student and assaulting another.

What are the details?

Cellphone video shows a parent who was supposed to be picking up his child entering a Paulsboro High School classroom Monday and confronting a student, WTXF-TV reported.

The station said the criminal complaint identifies the parent as Aaron Thomas of Gibbstown.

The video shows Thomas exchanging words with the student and complaining that the student allegedly was bothering his daughter, WTXF said.

Moments later the video shows an adult apparently trying to intervene and calm down the situation, but things escalated again as Thomas began arguing with another student, the station said. Video appears to show Thomas putting his hand on the second student.

WXTF said Thomas has been charged with several offenses, including entering an unauthorized section of the school, threatening to punch and knock out a student, and assault for allegedly grabbing a student’s arm and getting in his face.

The Paulsboro Public School District released the following statement on the matter, according to the station: "Safety and security of our staff and students is paramount. Unfortunate situations such as these gives us an opportunity to reflect and analyze current practices to further strengthen the district’s safety and security procedures to ensure that our schools are a safe place for all students and staff."

While WTXF said nobody answered the door at Thomas' home on Wednesday afternoon, a woman drove up to the house and told the station she lived there. WTXF said she didn't want to identify herself but noted that the family is working with an attorney and would like to tell their side of the story eventually.

Mother of second student speaks out

Faith Bagby, the mother of the second student in the video, told WTXF in a separate story she was "distraught" over the situation.

Bagby told the station her son was sticking up for the student Thomas confronted.

"He was telling the boy that had the guy in his face, ‘you don’t got to say nothing, don’t say nothing.' That’s when the guy must have not liked that and hopped in his face," she told WTXF. "So, he had nothing to do with it at all. He was just an innocent bystander protecting his classmate."

Bagby also noticed the adult in the classroom apparently trying to calm down Thomas.

"Why wasn’t he taken out of that classroom?" she asked the station. "You got your hand on his back like you’re caressing his back — you don’t look like you are trying to get him out."

The student's aunt, Jennifer Bagby, expressed outrage to WTXF.

"I’m mad at the school, I’m mad at the administrators, I’m mad at the security," she told the station. "I’ve been to plenty of basketball games, they run down on these kids, you can’t even stand on the court without running down on them, but an adult come into the school, act up, and nobody know what to do."

WTXF said Faith Bagby has a message for Thomas: "You were wrong, wrong all around."

CHAOS IN CANADA: Dad tells harrowing story of facing PRISON for 'misgendering' his daughter

Perhaps transgenderism should be renamed trends-genderism for its growing popularity, especially among vulnerable youth.

Gender transition treatments are happening at astonishing rates across the U.S., but they're happening at unprecedented rates in Canada — not all that surprising, considering Canada tends to lead the woke pack.

An anonymous Canadian father recently joined Glenn Beck to recount the tragic story of how his elementary-age daughter was indoctrinated into believing she was a boy in the British Columbia public school system.

“They passed a program here called SOGI 1 2 3,” he tells Glenn, which was marketed as an “anti-bullying program” but was really an avenue for school staff to tell kids, "You can be ... homosexual, you can be lesbian, you can be bisexual — all the letters in the alphabet of the LGBTQ."

“She had mental health issues,” he explains, “but the school decided we're going to direct her towards being transgender.”

But his daughter was not the only victim.

“That's how they felt they could deal with all mental health problems with children was just to transgender them,” he says.

Unfortunately, the school system was just the start of the indoctrination.

“At one point, you know, my daughter went to see a psychologist, [and] I thought this was great; this person is going to fix this.”

But instead of addressing the root cause of her health problems, the doctor, like so many, “went affirm, affirm, affirm.”

“And the next thing you know, my daughter's headed off to the B.C. Children's Hospital,” where “on her first visit they were going to pump her full of testosterone.”

The consent form, which he describes as a document that “doesn’t mean much,” clearly described “all the irreversible changes,” including “lowered voice, increased growth of hair…”

And “sterilization,” adds Glenn.

Perhaps most disturbing is the fact that the consent form explicitly stated that “the medical effects and safety of testosterone are actually not fully understood and there may be long-term risks that are not yet known,” the father claims.

Put plainly and simply — they’re boldly admitting they’re experimenting on children. But of course, they call it “care.”

Even though this father did not sign the consent form, the B.C. Children’s Hospital sent him a letter effectively saying, “We don't need your consent; we're going to give her testosterone anyways,” under the Infants Act, which is a Canadian law that states children can consent to their own medical treatment as long as a healthcare professional deems the treatment is in the child’s best interest.

But the horror doesn’t end there.

After filing a notice of motion in B.C. Provincial Court, he was swept into a battle involving “five years in the courts,” where he was told that “to misgender [his] daughter ... was going to be considered family violence.”

When he refused to play along with the delusion, a “protection order” was put on him that allowed him to be “arrested without warrant” if anyone thought he was misgendering his daughter or not affirming her.

And yet somehow it gets even worse. To hear the full story, watch the clip below.

We did our best to provide a stable, loving, and welcoming home for her. Our family asks for privacy and welcomes your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time," García said in the statement.

Condolences poured in from other lawmakers.

"My hearts breaks for @repchuygarcia and his family. The loss of a loved one, especially of a child, is an incomparable pain. Sending prayers and strength to heal," Democratic Rep. Barbara Lee tweeted.

Scary video: Raccoon attacks young girl on doorstep — then victim's 'very heroic' mother turns into 'momma bear' just in time

An outdoor video camera captured the scary moment when a raccoon attacked a young Connecticut girl last week — after which the girl's mother turned into "momma bear" just in a nick of time and saved the day.

What are the details?

The raccoon latched itself onto the girl's leg at 7:45 a.m. Friday just outside the front door of her family's home in Ashford, WTIC-TV reported.

Naturally, the girl began screaming and tried in vain to kick the animal off her leg.

Within seconds, the girl's mother ran outside and grabbed the raccoon by the neck, the station said.

"Go inside! Go inside!" the mom yelled to her child as she held her daughter off the ground with her left arm against her left leg while holding the raccoon at bay with her right hand.

Soon the girl got inside the house, and the mom — on her second try — managed to toss the now-squealing raccoon into the front yard, after which it scampered away.

The station said the mother posted a video of the ordeal to Facebook later that morning, noting her girl wanted to "show everyone what the raccoon did," WTIC said.

"I can’t tell you how proud I am of this brave girl!" the mother said of her daughter, the station added.

An update to the Facebook post indicated the mom and daughter both got rabies shots following the raccoon's "unprovoked" attack, WTIC reported.

'Very heroic'

"The mother behaved in a way that was very heroic," Geoff Krukar, a wildlife biologist for the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, told the station. "I think she did everything correctly by avoiding getting bit and warning the neighbor to stay back and getting the child to safety."

Krukar added to WTIC that the raccoon appeared to be sick.

He also told the station that if folks see the nocturnal animal during the day, that doesn't necessarily mean it has rabies — instead it's the animal's behavior that matters.

"If they see a raccoon that is acting abnormally, that could be frothing at the mouth, pursuing them, getting in close proximity, they should definitely report that to the authorities," Krukar recommended to WTIC.

Ashford Animal Control added to the station that the raccoon in question hadn't been captured.

Video: Mother, teen daughter carjacked in their own driveway after handgun-toting crook apparently waited for them to exit Philly home early in morning

Surveillance video caught the moment a mother and her teenage daughter were carjacked in their own driveway after a handgun-toting culprit apparently waited for them to exit their northeast Philadelphia home early in the morning last week.

What are the details?

Investigators told WTXF-TV the victims were leaving their home in the 8900 block of Maxwell Place around 6 a.m. Sept. 19 when the carjacker ambushed them.

"It appears he was laying in wait," Captain John Ryan told the station. "He rode a bicycle up there, left the bicycle behind, we have that."

The clip shows the mother and daughter opening the doors of their white Hyundai Santa Fe SUV as the carjacker — dressed in a dark hoodie, dark pants, white shoes, white mask, and blue gloves — sneaks up from the far side of a vehicle parked next to the victims' SUV.

The carjacker then runs around the front of the other vehicle with his gun drawn and heads toward the daughter, who's standing outside the passenger-side door of the Santa Fe.

The mother and daughter begin screaming, and the daughter runs across the street as the carjacker momentarily chases after her before turning his attention to the mother, who's standing outside the Santa Fe's driver-side door.

It appears the mother drops her purse on the ground, and the carjacker grabs it before entering the vehicle and driving off:

"No one was injured," Ryan added to WTXF. "They were just obviously stressed and afraid for their lives." Police told WPVI-TV the victims were not injured.

Here's video of the carjacking from two angles:

SUV recovered — but motorists must be vigilant

While police recovered the Santa Fe and examined it for fingerprints, WPVI reported that a 16-year-old girl was carjacked less than a half-hour after the mother and daughter were carjacked — and just a few blocks away along the 1900 block of Bluegrass Road. Investigators have not recovered the car stolen from the 16-year-old girl, the station said.

Officials told WPVI that carjackers are targeting more "suburban-style" areas of the city and that motorists must be vigilant.

"The suburban-style areas, they are areas being targeted because people get complacent," Philadelphia Police Inspector Charles Layton told WPVI. "They think, 'Well, this is my driveway, this isn't going to happen in my driveway.'"

Layton added to the station, "A lot of these [carjackings] are happening on their blocks, the blocks that people live. They think that they're safe there; they're complacent.

WPVI said its data journalism team found that early morning hours are a less likely time for carjackers to strike, with only 18% of carjackings have taken place in that time frame. The station reported that more than half of Philadelphia carjackings occur between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Anything else?

Layton told WPVI the carjacker who stole the Santa Fe may have been tipped off that someone would soon come out of the house, as one waited near an already idling car.

"[The victim] starts her vehicle through her phone app," Layton explained to the station. "The victim's daughter comes out and is confronted by that suspect."

Black mom sues Los Angeles schools over cotton field project at elementary school; social justice teacher allegedly said it would demonstrate what 'slaves had endured'

A black mother filed a civil rights lawsuit against the Los Angeles Unified School District and the board of education last week over a cotton field project at an elementary school in 2017 that a social justice teacher allegedly said would demonstrate what "African American slaves had endured," the Los Angeles Times reported.

What are the details?

Rashunda Pitts claimed in the suit that her daughter "has suffered extreme emotional distress" over the project at Laurel Span School, the Times said.

In addition to the district and school board, the suit names the school's then-principal and social justice teacher as defendants, the paper said, adding that during the last five years Laurel Span School has closed, and a new school — Laurel Cinematic Arts Creative Tech Magnet — has replaced it.

Pitts said she noticed in September 2017 her daughter becoming "very quiet and reserved" when her daughter used to "vibrantly share her day with her mother," the lawsuit states, according to the Times.

One day Pitts saw a cotton field in front of the school as she was dropping off her daughter, and she called the school's office to speak with Principal Amy Diaz, who was unavailable, the paper said, citing the lawsuit.

Pitts spoke with Assistant Principal Brian Wisniewski, who told the mom that her daughter's class was reading Frederick Douglass' autobiography and the cotton field was created so students could have a "real life experience" of slavery, the Times added, citing the lawsuit.

More from the paper:

After Pitts expressed her disappointment with the project, Wisniewski agreed and said the school's principal would reach out to Pitts, the lawsuit states. Diaz listened to Pitts' request for the cotton field to be taken down in 24 hours but said that the school couldn't accommodate such a quick turnaround, saying it could aim for the end of the week or the following week, but couldn't make any promises, according to the lawsuit.

Wisniewski and Diaz didn't immediately return requests for comment. An LAUSD spokesperson said the district didn't comment on ongoing or pending litigation.

Pitts' daughter said her social justice teacher required students to "pick cotton" — and while Pitts' daughter wasn't forced to do so, she had to watch other students complete the project while she cared for other crops in the garden, the Times said, citing the lawsuit.

In addition, Pitts' daughter said she was afraid to tell about the project because she didn't want retaliation from teachers or bad grades, the paper reported.

The school didn't get parental permission for student participation in the project, the suit says, according to the Times, adding that parents weren't told about the project.

The lawsuit adds that the school district later released a statement to a reporter saying it regrets "that an instructional activity in the garden at Laurel School was construed as culturally insensitive," the paper reported.

"Tending to the garden where a variety of fruits, vegetables, and other plants grow is a school-wide tradition that has been in place for years and has never been used as a tool to re-enact historical events," the statement said, according to the Times. "When school administrators became aware of a parent’s concern about the cotton plant, they responded immediately by removing the plant."

But Pitts alleges that the district lied to cover up its conduct and that its statement "directly contradicts" the assistant principal's words about the project, the paper reported.

As a result, Pitts said her daughter was discriminated against on the basis of her race, the Times said.

Pitts added that her daughter "has uncontrollable anxiety attacks and has experiences bouts of depression when she thinks about the Cotton Picking Project," the paper said, citing the lawsuit.
