'I will never give up my guns': Gun control activist David Hogg questioned by Chinese immigrant about tyranny

A New Hampshire congressional candidate confronted gun control activist David Hogg and declared she would not be giving up her firearms because there is no guarantee that the United States could not fall into tyranny.

Lily Tang Williams, a congressional candidate in New Hampshire, attended a gun control debate at nearby Dartmouth College.

Tang Williams is adamantly pro-gun since emigrating from communist China and noted on her platform that she grew up under Mao Zedong.

During the question period of the event, the candidate approached the audience microphone to question Hogg.

"Hi, my name is Lily Tang Williams. Welcome to my 'live free or die' state," she began.

"Actually, I am a Chinese immigrant who survived communism, and under Mao, you know, 40 million people were starving to death after he sold communism to them. And 20 million people died ... murdered during his Cultural Revolution," she continued.

She then specifically addressed Hogg: "So, my question to you, David, is that can you guarantee me, a gun owner, tonight, our government in the U.S., in D.C., will never, never become a tyrannical government? Can you guarantee that to me?"

"There’s no way I can ever guarantee that any government will not be tyrannical," Hogg replied.

"Well, then the debate on gun control is over, because I will never give up my guns. Never, never. And you should go to China to see how gun control works for the dictatorship of the CCP."

Hogg has been a gun control activist since the 2018 Parkland, Florida, shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where he was a student. Hogg debated against Spike Cohen about the correlation between gun ownership and gun deaths/violent crime.

Cohen showcased data from several sources that refuted the idea that guns automatically result in more crime, stating that there are many countries with higher murder rates despite having fewer guns per person than the United States. The nonprofit CEO also cited an overall increase in suicide as the predominant factor for any increases in gun deaths.

"It’s the guns," Hogg retorted. "I wish I had my own printout of graphs" that showed "the relationship between the rate of firearm ownership and the gun homicide rate, even putting aside the suicides. There is a pretty strong correlation with all these developed countries," he continued.

"If you look at the countries that have the highest rate of gun violence, they also have poverty, they also have systemic racism, they also have all these other forms of systemic injustice that I agree that we need to address. But the reality is it is far harder for what happened in Parkland to happen in Switzerland or in the U.K. or in almost any other highly developed country than it was in the United States," the 23-year-old added.

Along with gun control, Republican candidate Tang Williams has warned about the indoctrination of children against their parents and the division of society as steps toward a communist dictatorship in the United States.

"I grew up under Mao’s cultural revolution in China and fled communism for the freedom of the United States," Tang Williams wrote on her website.

"I fear that the country I love is becoming like the country I left. That is why I am running for Congress. It is time for the majority to speak up and defend our country from the radical left and keep the American dream alive for our children."

Activist David Hogg ridiculed on social media over his 'performative' response to new CDC guidelines

Gun control activist David Hogg faced an onslaught of online ridicule and mockery over his admission that he will continue wearing a mask despite the CDC reversal on their necessity.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Thursday that Americans who were fully vaccinated no longer needed to wear a mask in order to stop the spread of the coronavirus. While many celebrated the loosening of restrictions, some on the left responded with stunned incredulity.

Others like Hogg said they would continue wearing masks despite the new guidance from the CDC.

"I feel the need to continue wearing my mask outside even though I'm fully vaccinated because the inconvenience of having to wear a mask is more than worth it to have people not think I'm a conservative," said Hogg.

"I feel like this is something you can especially understand if you're in a very liberal area where 99% of the people you see are wearing masks," he added in a second tweet.

Hogg's tweet was met with immediate and fierce backlash from those who saw it as a naked admission that wearing a mask was performative virtue signaling.

"Sick burn man, hope peddling pointless ideological division is fun for you," responded conservative activist Benji Backer.

"Masking was always about political signaling for a big chunk of team blue, and their incessant lying about it until now should not be forgotten," replied radio host Buck Sexton.

"So what you're saying is you're going to continue this performative bulls*** despite science saying otherwise, not because you care about protecting people, but because your 'moral superiority' needs to be constantly validated? sounds about right for a lib like you," replied a Twitter user.

"Because you're afraid the way people would treat you if they thought you're a conservative? This should make you think about how 'tolerant' Democrats are," said another user.

Among those on the left expressing trepidation at the revised CDC guidance was MSNBC host Rachel Maddow who said she would need to "rewire" herself to accept unmasked Americans as no longer a threat to her health.

Pro-mask social media melts down over updated CDC guidance, vows to wear masks indefinitely: 'Empowering anti-maskers and anti-vaxers'

Social media users have come out en masse against the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's new guidance regarding masks, vowing to continue covering their faces indefinitely.

On Thursday, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky announced that fully vaccinated Americans can return to life without masks.

The directive was a full pivot from advice issued earlier in the month.

What are the details?

Many social media users responded to the announcement with concern, and in some cases, outright disdain.

Dr. Jason Johnson, MSNBC political contributor and radio host, wrote, "I will continue to wear a mask in closed buildings and restaurants thank you. [I]t's not an imposition on anyone else or doubting the CDC, it's just added caution."

Dr. Leana Wen, former head of Planned Parenthood and CNN analyst, added, "The CDC has gone from one extreme to another, from over-caution to throwing caution into the wind. By not requiring proof of vaccination, they are essentially eliminating mask mandates & physical distancing. This could DISINCENTIVIZE vaccination."

In response to a Grabien tweet that read, "Mika [Brzezinski] & Joe [Scarborough] both say they'll keep wearing masks on planes despite being vaccinated," the MSNBC host added, "The CDC says it as well. Probably a smart thing to do now, and a good idea to keep a mask on hand in the future if that person in the seat next to you starts the hacking and sneezing routine in flu season."

Another user wrote, "I've been supportive and defensive for the most part of the CDC all along, but this statement is reckless. You're empowering anti-maskers and anti-vaxers. You know, the ones keeping the World from resuming some normalcy and who are continuing to kill others and/or make them ill."

Another added, "At my doctors office there is a sign on the door that says 'You will wear a mask past this door regardless of the current advisories. Put in on or turn around.' Yes!"

One user even said that the move was counterintuitive to protecting children.

"So, are we just actively not protecting the kids anymore?" the user asked in response to the CDC's announcement. "Vaccines were approved for 12+ just days ago. Getting all that done takes time and what about the rest of them? It may not hit kids as hard, but it still f***ing sucks and can have complications."

"I ain't taking my mask off till we are done," one user proclaimed. "I care about others."

Another user called the science into question, and wrote, "I'll continue to wear my mask because still a lot of people not vaccinated. How can I really know who is vaccinated? How long does the Pfizer vaccine last in body?"

"With so many refusing to vaccinate, how can I feel safe indoors when I see someone without a mask? How to keep our kids safe in these settings? Relying on honor system for my family's health? This is a mistake," one user insisted.

Finally, one user added, "[CDC] said if ur vaccinated and still wear your mask, you're sexy."

What else?

During Thursday's White House press briefing, Walensky said that Americans who have waited two weeks after receiving their second COVID-19 vaccine can return to mostly normal, pre-pandemic behaviors in the vast majority of settings.

In her remarks, Walensky said, “Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing. If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic. We have all longed for this moment, when we can get back to some sense of normalcy."

The infectious diseases expert added, "Based on the continuing downward trajectory of cases, the scientific data on the performance of our vaccines, and our understanding of how the virus spreads, that moment has come for those who are fully vaccinated."

Unvaccinated Americans should continue masking and engaging in social distancing, Walensky advised.

“This is an exciting and powerful moment, it could only happen because of the work of so many who made sure we have the rapid administration of three safe and effective vaccines," she proclaimed.

The Associated Press reports that about 154 million Americans — more than 46% of the population — have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. More than 117 million Americans are fully vaccinated.

Dem congressman introducing resolution to expel GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from House

Democratic Rep. Jimmy Gomez of California announced Wednesday night that he will introduce a resolution calling for newly-elected Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to be expelled from the House of Representatives, citing reports of her "repeated endorsements of sedition, domestic terrorism, and political violence."

What are the details?

Gomez tweeted, "I don't need to explain why @RepMTG is a clear and present danger to Congress and our democracy. She did it herself. And she must go. I'm introducing a resolution to expel her from Congress immediately."

In a press release, the congressman wrote, "As if it weren't enough to amplify conspiracy theories that the September 11 attacks were an inside job and the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was staged, a string of recent media reports has now confirmed that Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene had previously supported social media posts calling for political violence against the Speaker of the House, members of Congress, and former President Barack Obama."

He argued:

Such advocacy for extremism and sedition not only demands her immediate expulsion from Congress, but it also merits strong and clear condemnation from all of her Republican colleagues, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Her very presence in office represents a direct threat against the elected officials and staff who serve our government, and it is with their safety in mind, as well as the security of institutions and public servants across our country, that I call on my House colleagues to support my resolution to immediately remove Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from this legislative body."

At the time of Gomez's announcement, Rep. Greene's name had already been trending on Twitter for hours after video went viral showing Greene accosting Parkland survivor and gun-control advocate David Hogg as he walked through Washington, D.C., in March of 2019—roughly one year after the mass murder that took the lives of 17 people and left several more injured.

— Fred Guttenberg (@Fred Guttenberg)1611753995.0

Gomez did not make mention of Greene confronting Hogg, but pointed to several other instances of the congresswoman's past social media activity, such as when she "like a comment from 2019 that a 'bullet to the head would be quicker' than an election for removing Speaker Pelosi from office, and messages about executing FBI agents working for the 'deep state.'"

On Tuesday, CNN published a report detailing Greene's controversial messages, including a post where she suggested Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama would be hanged over the Iran Deal.

A commenter asked Greene, "Now we get to hang them?? Meaning H & O???," to which she replied, "Stage is being set. Players are being put in place. We must be patient. This must be done perfectly or liberal judges would let them off."

Greene called the CNN story a "hit piece," and issued a statement saying, "Over the years, I've had teams of people manage my pages. Many posts have been liked. Many posts have been shared. Some did not represent my views. Especially the ones that CNN is about to spread across the internet."

The Republican from Georgia has only been in Congress for a few weeks, but already filed articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden. She has also been accused of following the QAnon conspiracy theory.
