Filing appears for Mike Pence 2024 presidential campaign but his spokesperson calls it a prank

A filing for the 2024 presidential campaign for Mike Pence appeared on Monday but a spokesperson for the former vice president denied that they had any involvement.

The filing was reported on social media and was widely circulated. Soon after, Pence spokesperson Devin O'Malley denied that he had filed.

"Former Vice President Mike Pence did not file to run for President today," he tweeted, then added that someone had pranked the media.

The Republican politician gained prominence as a right-wing talk show host in Indiana before he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2001. He was elected governor of Indiana in 2013 before being selected by then-candidate Donald Trump to be his vice presidential candidate in 2016.

Pence has been criticized by many on the left and by those opposed to Trump for refusing to denounce the president for claiming the 2020 election was fraudulent. Some of the rioters on Jan. 6 reportedly chanted for Pence to be harmed over his refusal at the time to call for the election results to be recounted.

He has since publicly stated that he refuses to testify before the congressional committee investigating the rioting on Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol.

"Congress has no right to my testimony," said Pence.

"We have a separation of powers under the Constitution of the United States," he added, "and I believe it would establish a terrible precedent for the Congress to summon a vice president of the United States to speak about deliberations that took place at the White House."

Former President Donald Trump had announced his campaign for the 2024 election in November.

Despite Rev. Franklin Graham publicly announcing that he wouldn't endorse anyone for the 2024 Republican presidential primary, his statement praising Pence raised speculation that he would announce his campaign soon.

"I appreciate very much former Vice President Mike Pence, there are a number of Republicans that have great leadership abilities, but Vice President Mike Pence has served this nation and he's served it well," Graham said to reporters.

"And I hope that his role in serving this nation is not finished," he added.

When asked if he was endorsing Pence, Graham said they were instead going to go eat some fried chicken.

'You loot, we shoot': Armed property owners in Oregon threaten would-be lawbreakers amid wildfires

Some residents in Clackamas County, Oregon, have taken to posting roadside signs warning potential lawbreakers that if they're caught looting or setting fires, they may find themselves facing the wrong end of a gun — and feeling the pain of a bullet.

KPTV-TV's lead news photographer Devin Eskew encountered a number of such warning signs as the state battles huge wildfires:

Some of the many warnings residents have posted between Colton and Estacada. @fox12oregon https://t.co/gOstHelXH0

How are folks reacting to the signs?

While KPTV-TV reported on the posted warning signs and the Riverside Fire's devastation, the station didn't speak to locals who might have reactions to the messages on the signs in Estacada and Colton.

But folks reacting on Twitter to Eskew's photos of the signs had a few things to say. Some were flat-out against the signs:

  • "I say, let their damned houses burn," one commenter said. "These guys won't be missed. #LetTheMAGAtsDie. (I used to be a much kinder person before Trump...)"
  • "Those white trash losers don't even own anything worth looting," another commenter wrote.

It seemed, however, that quite a few more users were in support of the signs:

  • "I support this completely," one commenter countered. "If these lawless criminals can bend the law and do what they want, so can everyone else."
  • "Anybody who would loot peoples' homes during a wildfire emergency is a pretty terrible human," another commenter added. "As for them putting up signs warning those same trash humans away, guess they can't say they weren't warned."
  • "ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT," another commenter said. "Anyone caught should be dealt with appropriately. We all know the Dems would just say, 'Poor non-gender [person] needs things, too. Be nice to it and talk to it; it will come around.' Do what needs to be done to protect your homes."
  • "It is a sad world we live in that one has to choose to stay within danger to protect property from looters," another commenter noted. "There was a time when people helped each other, not [stole] from each other. Our society has bred people who think they are entitled to help themselves to whatever they want."

Anything else?

Clackamas County deputies confirmed Saturday they have made two theft-related arrests in the fire zones, the station said, adding that one was in Mulino and another in the eastern portion of the county.

NHL cancels Thursday's playoff games as a stand against racial injustice: Report

NHL players have forced the league to cancel Thursday night's Stanley Cup Playoff games, according to several reports.

The National Hockey League received criticism after they played playoff games on Wednesday. The NBA, MLB, MLS, and WNBA postponed some or all games on Wednesday following the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The NHL will reportedly postpone Thursday's playoff games after the Hockey Diversity Alliance requested that the league suspend all playoff games. The Hockey Diversity Alliance, which was created in June, has a mission of "eradicating systemic racism and intolerance in hockey."

"Earlier today, the HDA formally requested that Commissioner Bettman and the NHL suspend all playoff games today to allow players and fans to reflect on what happened and to send a message that human rights must take priority over sport," the Hockey Diversity Alliance said in a statement.

San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane and Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba outlined the plan to cancel Thursday's game by calling more than 100 players who were in the playoff cities of Toronto and Edmonton, according to TSN hockey analyst Pierre Lebrun.

"The PLAYERS took a stand today, they stepped up," Kane tweeted. "Proud of my fellow nhl PLAYERS for their action."

"The NHL is always late to the party, especially on these topics, so it's sorta sad and disheartening for me and other members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance, and I'm sure other guys across the league," Dumba said on Wednesday during an interview with Vancouver's Sportsnet 650. "But if no one stands up and does anything, it's the same thing — it's just that silence that you're just outside looking in on actually being leaders and invoking real change when you have such an opportunity to do so."

"We should not stay silent towards systemic racism and any racial inequalities in our society," said Ottawa Senators forward Anthony Duclair.

There are two Game 3's scheduled for Thursday: the Philadelphia Flyers versus the New York Islanders and the Vancouver Canucks against Vegas Golden Knights.

The Tampa Bay Lightning joined the Boston Bruins for a "moment of reflection" in respect to Jacob Blake on Wednesday.
