Pete Buttigieg brags about $48K EV to people who can't afford gas, looks even dumber when Ford recalls EV

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has been telling those naughty Americans who are struggling to afford fuel for their older, gas-guzzling vehicles to just go get a brand-new electric vehicle like the Ford Mustang Mach-E (listed at $48,924 in Consumer Reports.)

Here he is, all "charged up, ready to go" and, oh, so "excited to go pick up a friend" (Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm) and share the "momentous" news about a new"national network of 500,000 electric vehicle chargers."

And who could forget the transportation secretary's helpful advice to people who can't afford record-high gas prices in March?

"Clean transportation can bring significant cost savings for the American people, as well," said Buttigieg. "Last month we announced a $5 billion investment to build out a nationwide electric vehicle charging network, so the people from rural to suburban to urban communities can all benefit from the gas savings of driving an EV."

But now that Ford is recalling $48,924 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles because of a defect in the vehicle’s "battery contactor," will Buttigieg have to go back to riding his bike — back and forth from his security detail's giant SUV that follows along behind him, which was definitely not ever a publicity stunt?

According to Consumer Reports, Ford is recalling the Mach-E because the vehicle’s battery contactor may overheat, causing the vehicle to lose power while driving. A Ford spokesperson said the company plans to send an over-the-air software update for current Mach-E owners in July.

Unlike out-of-touch Buttigieg, Washington Examiner national political reporter Salena Zito understands the current sentiments of the average American. She joined Glenn Beck on the radio program to talk about sky-high gas prices, spreading crime, the never-ending border crisis, and all the other reasons Americans are fed up with the current administration.

While Democrats try to get us to focus on the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, most of us are struggling to afford the insane gas prices, which recently passed $5 on average across the country.

"There isn't a time that I don't pull up to a gas station where you don't hear someone cuss at the gas pump," Zito told Glenn. And that news, she predicted, could be "monstrous" for Democrats in the upcoming midterms.

Biden says 'this looks stupid' as he removes his face mask while speaking to reporters outside White House

Did we get a glimpse of how President Joe Biden truly may feel about wearing COVID-19 face masks — particularly while outside?

'This looks stupid'

On Tuesday, Biden removed his face mask and declared "this looks stupid" amid a chuckle while speaking to reporters outside the White House.

Here's the clip:

Commenters chiming in on the Twitter video from Charlie Spiering — White House correspondent for Breitbart News — as well as those who opined elsewhere on Twitter, more or less echoed Biden's apparent mask sentiments:

  • "Yes masks are stupid especially outdoors," one commenter said.
  • "Joe gets one right," another user quipped.
  • "For show," another commenter declared.
  • "The first time he has been correct in a long time," another user noted.
  • "It’s the one time I actually agree with Biden!" another commenter wrote.

Guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says mask wearing in outdoor settings in unnecessary unless you're around crowds or those who aren't fully vaccinated while in an area with a high number of COVID-19 cases.

Dr. Anthony Fauci in May expressed more caution than the CDC, saying masks aren't necessary outdoors if you're fully vaccinated. That same month, the CDC was called out for greatly exaggerating the percentage of outdoor transmissions — and the agency's explanation was that it just wanted to protect people.

What's been reported about Biden wearing masks outdoors?

A little over a week ago, photos circulated of Biden wearing a mask while walking on a Delaware beach with his wife, first lady Jill Biden, and their dog. Jill Biden wasn't wearing a mask:

Biden — who is fully vaccinated — said last spring, despite CDC guidance saying masks are unnecessary outdoors, that he still intended to wear masks outside, saying doing so is a "patriotic responsibility."

Around the same time last spring, the Associated Press reported — citing a top Biden adviser — that the president wore masks outdoors out of habit.

Still, seeing Biden in a mask on a nearly empty beach late last month led some to mock the president and call his outdoor mask-wearing "theater," Fox News said.

Anything else?

Meanwhile NBC News reported Monday that COVID-19 confusion is hampering the White House.

The network said last month Biden and his top COVID advisers — including Fauci and CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky — were sitting together in a video call "in the type of high-filtration masks they haven’t been urging the public to wear."

Pete Buttigieg caught unloading bike from SUV before riding to Cabinet meeting in apparent botched environmentalist photo-op

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was seen riding a bike with multiple SUVs in tow on his way to a Cabinet meeting on Thursday in what appears to have been an attempt at an environmentalist photo-op.

The secretary — who has been leading the charge on the Biden administration's efforts to battle climate change — likely wanted to showcase his efforts to arrive at the White House meeting in a climate-friendly way. Only he was caught by CNN reporter DJ Judd unloading the bike from a gas-guzzling SUV just moments before.

"Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg biked to the White House for today's Cabinet Meeting, it would appear," wrote Judd, who covered Buttigieg in Iowa and Georgia during the 2020 Democratic primary, in a caption for the video.

A longer version of the video posted by WFMZ-TV clearly shows security personnel unloading the bike off a bike rack situated on the back of the SUV. After that, the former Democratic presidential candidate mounts the bike and appears to wait until several security agents' SUVs are ready to escort him. Then he takes off with the vehicles following closely behind.

Buttigieg's clothing appeared to match what he was seen wearing at the White House meeting, according to a photo posted on President Joe Biden's Twitter account on Thursday.

The clothing also matched another video claiming to capture the Transportation Secretary leaving the White House after the meeting, once again, on bike. That video was posted by SCOTUS Blog staffer Katie Barlow.

One commenter on Twitter, whose posting of the video has attracted more than 1 million views, characterized the scene as "Pete Buttigieg's dog and pony show."

"Use an armored Suburban to bring a bike within a short distance of the destination. Unload it and ride in with a security detail in tow, pretending to save energy," the commenter added.

TheBlaze has reached out to Buttigieg's office for comment but has not yet received a reply.

It's not the first time that Buttigieg has chosen to ride a bike through the District. In February, he and other Cabinet members were reportedly filmed cycling through the Navy Yard.

The secretary raised eyebrows this week after suggesting that Americans ought to be taxed for every mile they drive as a possible way to fund the administration's multitrillion dollar infrastructure plan.

The plan, unveiled this week, reserves the bulk of its supposed "infrastructure" spending for progressive initiatives such as combatting climate change and providing free community college.
