Journalist faces arrest after trying to expose all-ages drag show

A journalist was reportedly arrested over the weekend after he attempted to expose an all-ages drag show held at the Mission Event Center in Mission, Texas.

The Fiesta de Colores event was held on Saturday and hosted by RGV PRIDE, a South Texas Equality Project group. It was open to the public for $10 per person. One advertisement promoted the event as free for children under 12, while another conflicting ad stated that children under 10 could enter for free.

"All ages welcomed," one ad stated. "Vendors, drag entertainers, music & more."

"RGV PRIDE presents Fiesta de Colores, a celebration of diversity with the LGBTQIA+ Family & Allies. The event will take place at Mission Event Center and will feature a variety of activities, including music, dancing, and more. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 19th, 2024, from 3pm to 12am," it continued. "Did you know in October as part of LGBTQ+ History Month we have: 8th - International Lesbian Day 11th - National Coming Out Day 15th - National Latinx HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 16th - International Pronoun Day 26th - Intersex Awareness Day Last week: Asexual Awareness Week."

'Four Mission police officers arrested Taylor for not leaving.'

According to RGV PRIDE's website, Geneva Karr, a "Drag Artist from RuPaul's Drag Race Season 16," was slated to "grace our main stage." The event also offered a meet-and-greet with Karr.

Sarah Fields, the president of Texas Freedom Coalition, reported in a post on X that her friend and fellow journalist, Taylor Cramer, was arrested by Mission Police Department officers after he attempted to expose the all-ages drag show.

According to Fields, Cramer purchased a ticket and received a wristband to attend the event. Once inside, he entered the main room, where a drag performance was taking place with at least one child present, she noted.

The journalist's video evidence showed that Cramer attempted to film the show, but a man obstructed his view by dancing, clapping, and jumping in front of the camera.

"Security told Taylor he had to leave. He explained that only the owner or acting manager of the property has the legal authority to trespass someone. (This is correct)," Fields continued. "Four Mission police officers arrested Taylor for not leaving. Two officers then talked with him outside in front of another officer who was going to [transport] him to booking. They asked Taylor if he 'would be cool' and they would not book me if he simply left the property."

Cramer's approximately two-minute video captured his interaction with local police officers. He could be heard asking police whether the person who requested he leave the event was the owner of the building.

"No, the City of Mission is," the officer responded.

"Yes, the City of Mission owns this building where you're having this drag show with children right now," Cramer stated.

"Yeah, yeah," the officer replied, nodding his head in the affirmative.

Police refused Cramer's request to re-enter the event, as attendees inside held the door closed.

"Well, look, let's go talk outside," the officer told Cramer.

"No, I'm not doing the outside thing. Because that's all you want me to do is get outside the property. If I haven't done anything wrong, I don't need to," Cramer stated.

Cramer refused to leave without instruction from the property manager.

"She doesn't want to come out," another officer told Cramer.

"So, I have it from your authority — can you say on camera that from the acting manager of this facility you, as the lieutenant, are relaying that information?" Cramer responded.

The officer requested that the journalist put the phone down as he reached to grab it from him. Officers told Cramer that he was being placed under arrest.

"What? For what?" Cramer asked.

An officer replied, "You've been told to leave."

The video jumped to the men continuing their conversation outside. One officer can be heard telling Cramer, "It's a free country, correct?"

"No, it's not," the journalist responded. "I just got arrested for just being here. Yep, no, it's not a free country. You guys proved it. You absolutely proved it."

Last year, Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed into law Senate Bill 12, which prohibits sexually oriented performances in the presence of children. However, the law is currently not in effect, as it remains tied up in the court system after the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas challenged the legislation.

The City of Mission, the Mission Police Department, and STEP did not respond to a request for comment.

Sara Gonzales infiltrates RuPaul drag show, finds kids in attendance despite explicit content

Sara Gonzales, host of BlazeTV's "Sara Gonzales Unfiltered," recently infiltrated a drag show in Texas and found minors in attendance despite the explicit nature of the performance.

On Friday, celebrity transvestite RuPaul hosted a drag show called "RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars LIVE" at Music Hall at Fair Park, a city park in Dallas. Gonzales not only attended the event but also captured video of some of the performance as well as some of her fellow attendees, some of whom were clearly underage.

According to Gonzales' footage, many of the show's performers, wearing costumes that exposed most of their buttocks, twerked and gyrated for the crowd. They also repeatedly made crude and graphic references to sex acts and private body parts:

  • "My p***y is BURNING!"
  • "P***y real good."
  • "Is that p***y on fire?"
  • "Y'all s*cked the good d*** for these seats!"

Gonzales shared the video footage on Tuesday's episode of "Sara Gonzales Unfiltered," calling the drag show a form of "child abuse," and hinted that it made her want to "vomit."

She then discussed the footage with Texas state Rep. Brian Harrison (R-Midlothian), who was similarly appalled that such "offensive" and "absolutely disgusting" performances were on display in front of "very young children."

What's more, the drag show may even have violated SB12, a bill passed last year prohibiting "sexually oriented performance[s]: (1) on public property; or (2) in the presence of an individual younger than 18 years of age." A federal judge subsequently issued a permanent injunction against the bill, preventing it from being enforced, but Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has since appealed that injunction.

Harrison explained that the bill cannot be enforced at present while the appeals process continues, but the behaviors it was designed to prevent remain "illegal." "The state law is not off the books simply because we're being enjoined from enforcing it," he explained. "Those actions are still illegal in the state of Texas."

Harrison also suggested that Paxton has a good chance of prevailing in his appeal to reinstate SB12. "I do think the odds are pretty decent," he claimed. "... I actually feel somewhat optimistic."

Harrison reiterated that such drag shows are not a matter of free speech or the First Amendment but about protecting children, and he indicated that those who facilitated such a sexually explicit show without an age restriction could at some point be "retroactively prosecuted" under SB12.

"We're talking about a performance, an adult-themed, sexually explicit performance, in front of minors that was engaged in commerce on property that is governmental property in the state of Texas," he noted. "So I do think they're operating at a little bit of a risk here."

Gonzales added that law enforcement may want to examine the "hard drive[s]" of some of the participants since, she claimed, they seem to desperately "want to shake [their] rear end in front of kids."

Finally, Gonzales issued a warning that she will continue to expose those who attempt to sexualize children, especially in Texas. "I'm putting you on notice, drag queens!" she stated emphatically.

Drag queen show attendees love that parents brought their little children to get 'kids ... accustomed to' LGBTQ presence

Attendees of an outdoor, wintertime drag queen show in Grand Rapids, Michigan, expressed happiness that parents brought their little children to Saturday's “Winter’s a DRAG" event — because, as one person put it, doing so gets "kids ... accustomed to" an LGBTQ presence.

What are the details?

“Like, all bets are off, honestly," attendee Madison Hoffmann told WXMI-TV before busting out with a laugh.

"Yeah, there’s no rules. I would just say it’s a lot of fun. It’s good music. You come, you dance – even if you’re good, bad, whatever – who cares? Everybody just kind of accepts that it’s a fun day," she also told WXMI.

Hoffmann added to the station that “parents have their kids on their shoulders, which I think is absolutely amazing to get kids so accustomed to it."

James Krueger — another attendee who was holding a little girl in his arms — noted to WXMI that "it’s seriously so important for the future generations to understand equality and acceptance. ... It’s so positive and beautiful that the drag queens and what they represent is so near and dear to us, so we just wanted to share that with our little one, too."

Featured at the event were queens from Michigan Drag Brunch, the station said.

"It's not like [in] June all the queers drop from the sky and then July 1 we all go back," Hoffmann added to WXMI. "You know, we're here all year, so I think it's important to always celebrate that."

How are folks reacting?

A handful of commenters sounded off under the station's YouTube page about the event, and they didn't seem pleased about it:

  • "I don’t think we [need] to be mean to anyone, but claims [that] this is normal ... [it's] simply NOT," one commenter said, adding that the drag show "absolutely shouldn’t be promoted to little children as normal. [It] just isn’t true; [you] shouldn’t lie to kids."
  • "Stop indoctrinating children," another commenter wrote.
  • "That kid looked happy to be there," another commenter noted before adding a decisive "not."

Dave & Buster's blasted for reportedly sponsoring 'youth entertainers drag show'

Dave & Buster's – the entertainment bar restaurant chain – is reportedly sponsoring an LGBTQ pride event that includes a "youth entertainers drag show." The controversial event has been criticized by many.

Dave & Buster's is known for entertainment, arcade games, and alcohol, but it is under fire for allegedly sponsoring a drag show event for children in Wisconsin.

The Libs of TikTok account noted: "Dave & Busters is sponsoring a pride event in Wisconsin where children will dress up in drag and perform a sexual-themed show as adults clap along and encourage them."

Social media posts from the N.E.W. Pride organization appear to confirm the LGBT event featuring "youth entertainers drag show."

Friday's schedule for the N.E.W. Pride events is expected to be restricted to ages "21+," but there does not appear to be any age restriction for Saturday's LGBTQ events.

The website for N.E.W. Pride – previously known as "Rainbow Over Wisconsin" – states: "Rainbow Over Wisconsin was founded in 1996 with the goal to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ Wisconsinites. Rainbow Over Wisconsin (ROW) produced many community events including Pride Alive, the ROW Gala, Pride Prom, and many others. Now, with a refreshed strategic direction that better serves Northeastern Wisconsin, ROW is becoming N.E.W. Pride."

According to social media posts from last year's N.E.W. Pride Alive event, small children engaged with drag queen performers.

The Dave & Buster's Twitter account had been blasted by commentators questioning the alleged sponsorship of the "youth entertainers drag show," but the arcade bar company had yet to respond to overwhelming criticism. A few have suggested a boycott of Dave & Buster's.

TheBlaze reached out for comment from Dave & Buster's regarding the "youth entertainers drag show," but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
