Texas state lawmaker says he will propose bill to protect children from being exposed to drag queen performances

Texas state Rep. Bryan Slaton has pledged to put forward legislation to protect children from being exposed to drag queen performances.

On Saturday, the Mr. Misster bar in Dallas held a drag event that had been advertised as "fit for guests of all ages." Disturbing video footage shows that children were present at the event.

"Mr. Misster's Drag The Kids To Pride Drag Show provides the ultimate family friendly pride experience. This signature event is a family friendly spin off of our famed Champagne Drag Brunch, with our resident DJ Charlie Phresh playing some of your favorite hits while host Nicole O'Hara Munro brings together some of the best drag entertainers around!" a description on Eventbrite stated.

In a statement, Slaton said, "The events of this past weekend were horrifying and show a disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children. As a father of two young children, I would never take my children to a drag show and I know [Texas House] Speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn't either. Protecting our own children isn't enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas."

"I promised my voters that I would stand up for their values and fight to protect Texas kids. I was re-elected on that promise and I intend to keep it by authoring legislation to defend kids from being subjected to drag shows and other inappropriate events. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass this important legislation," Slaton said.

Democratic state Rep. Jessica González responded on Twitter, taking issue with the proposal and calling for gun control.

"This isn't about protecting children, it's about further censoring the LGBTQ+ community and taking more rights away from parents. Let's actually protect children by passing common-sense gun control," González tweeted.

Last month, a deadly shooting perpetrated at a school in Uvalde, Texas, left 19 children and two teachers dead.

"It's sad that this is an apparent priority in a state where 19 children were just murdered," NBC Los Angeles reporter Alex Rozier tweeted in response to Slaton's post.

'This is satanic': Shocking videos from 'Drag the Kids to Pride' event at Texas gay bar show children handing money to drag queen dancers

A Texas gay bar hosted a "Drag the Kids to Pride" event where drag queen dancers provocatively gyrated in front of children as young as toddlers. Tensions flared when protesters demonstrated outside the venue hosting the drag queen show for children.

The Mr. Misster gay bar in downtown Dallas hosted the drag queen event aimed at children.

A poster for the "Drag the Kids to Pride" event claims it is the "ultimate family friendly pride experience."

"Our under 21 guests can enjoy a special Mr. Misster Mocktails while the moms and dads can sip on one of our classic Mr. Misster Mimosa Towers," the poster reads. "Do you want to hit the stage with the queens? We have FIVE limited spots for young performers to take the stage solo, or with a queen of their choosing! Come hangout with the Queens and enjoy this unique pride experience, fit for guests of all ages!"

The Texas gay bar said the "Drag the Kids to Pride" event was a spinoff of Mr. Misster's Champagne Drag Brunch – which tickets start at $25 and go all the way up to $600.

There are neon signs at the gay bar that read "It's not gonna lick itself" and "I licked it so it's mine."

BlazeTV contributor Alex Stein attempted to attend the "Drag the Kids to Pride" event but was denied access at the door. Several supporters of the drag queen event for children assaulted Stein as they attempted to prevent him from filming.

"They're bigoted," Stein said of the gay bar staff. "I can't believe they're not letting me in a gay bar – I thought you guys were inclusive?"

They're gonna groom a bunch of children," Stein screamed. "They won't let me in, but they'll let children in."

There was immediate backlash to the "Drag the Kids to Pride" event.

TheBlaze's Jason Whitlock: "This is satanic."

BlazeTV's Elijah Schaffer: "Grooming."

Podcast host Allie Beth Stuckey: "Every single Republican legislature should be creating a bill to criminalize drag shows that involve children. The parents, performers, bar owners - everyone should be charged with sexual abuse of children."

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh: "Every adult in the room should spend the rest of their lives in solitary confinement."

Journalist Benny Johnson: "Demonic."

Investigative reporter Drew Hernandez: "This is vile, all of these LGBTQ pedophiles should be arrested immediately And the parents that enabled this should be arrested as well. This is what happens when this crap gets normalized in society, you get gay bars grooming kids with Drag Queens."

Radio host Jesse Kelly: "Not sure people realize how painful a national course-correction is gonna be. Live it up. Have your fun. The realignment of society at the back end of this will be ugly."
