NBA legend Dwyane Wade roasted for repeating joke about LeBron James during Olympics broadcast: 'His pronouns are he/him!'

NBA champion and former player Dwyane Wade was widely mocked for using the same joke for Team USA star LeBron James multiple times in the same game during an Olympics basketball broadcast.

The former Miami Heat guard was roasted online after he consistently referred to James using the pronouns "he/him" during Team USA's game against Serbia on Sunday.

"Y'all know his pronouns – he/him!" Wade said in the first half.

One of the most circulated clips from the second half showed James finish a layup in front of the raucous crowd, after which Wade said, "America, you know him as LeBron James. I know him personally. His pronouns are he/him."

"Dwyane Wade needs to chill. Just dropped his 3rd 'he/him' pronoun line of the game after this LeBron bucket," sports writer Frank Michael Smith wrote on X.

But Wade was not done. After the game, he took to his X account to attempt the joke again.

"Y’all know the pronouns: HE/HIM," Wade wrote.

Hilariously, that was the final straw for fans after what seemingly was the fourth time Wade used the joke that day.

"Never commentate again," one observer replied.

"Dwyane wade using the he him joke twice [in the] same quarter is crazy," said actor O'Shea Jackson, the son of rapper Ice Cube.

"It was an L the first 5x you said it," another fan remarked.

Even the social media manager for the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies mocked Wade's commentary, saying he was "spamming" the joke.

Former NFL wide receiver and controversial commentator Antonio Brown chimed in and pointed to the fact that Wade has a transgender son.

"Now do your son[']s pronouns," Brown wrote.

Wade has a 16-year-old son named Zaya, whom he and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, treat as if he is a girl.

Wade has said he is "so very proud of the daughter [he's] had the opportunity to raise," which would seem to make his LeBron James pronoun joke more personal.

"She has been my biggest educator and inspiration of what it means to be true to you," Wade said of the boy. "That's why it's so important to create a collaborative space for the community to participate in the conversation and express themselves freely."

The child reportedly transitioned at the age of 12.

Soon Wade and his child launched a website for transgender youth called Translatable.

The site is self-described as a "safe space for LGBTQIA+ youth to express themselves and is a resource hub for their parents, families, and support systems."

"Translatable aims to serve as a community safe space for youth to express themselves through a number of creative outlets," Zaya said in a launch video. "Here at Translatable, we focus on communities of color, center the most marginalized, and emphasize the importance of parents and family."

As Blaze News reported in April 2023, Wade revealed that he moved his family out of Florida over the state's LBGTQ laws, noting that his family would not feel comfortable there.

Dwyane Wade's biological son legally changes name and gender despite mother's objection to transgender transition in court battle

The biological son of Dwyane Wade has legally made a name change and switched genders after a six-month court battle.

Wade's child was born a boy named Zion Malachi Airamis Wade. Now 15 years old, Zion is legally Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade after a judge granted the legal name and gender change. The judge confirmed the teen's transgender transition and allowed sex markers on documents to match the 15-year-old's preferred gender identity. The ruling was made in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday.

The court filing from November stated, "A court order affirming her identity will allow Zaya to live more comfortably and honestly in all aspects of her life — from simple introductions and food orders, to applying for a driver's license and filling out college applications."

The court document said, "This Petition is about empowering Zaya to live her truth."

However, the teen's mother has objected to her child's transgender transition throughout the legal process. The mother wanted to delay the minor's ability to legally change genders until the teen was an adult.

Wade's ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, had previously tried to prevent the teen from legally altering the birth certificate to a different name and gender.

Funches-Wade accused the NBA legend of trying to "profit" from the child's gender change in a court filing from last November.

Funches-Wade, 41, claimed that her ex-husband told her last March "that a lot of money had been already made and that additional money will be made in relation to our child’s name and gender issue." Funches-Wade alleged that Wade said that Disney could be interested in signing a deal with their child.

Wade's child had previously received modeling contracts from Tiffany and Dove.

Wade, 41, denied the accusations from his ex-wife.

"I've received a social media post about me forcing our 15-year-old to be someone she's not and to do something against her will," Wade wrote in an Instagram post. "These are serious and harmful allegations that have hurt our children."

"While none of us are surprised by Siohvaughn's attempt to fight Zaya's identity and her unwavering attempt to drag my name through the mud, I'm very disappointed that she continuously find[s] ways of centering herself and HER needs, without regard to her children," the former Miami Heat star said.

Wade claimed that Funches-Wade "tried a similar attempt over a decade ago (with equally damaging lies and causing irreparable harm to her children) and 13 lawyers later, I was awarded sole custody of our two kids as an active NBA player."

"All I ever wanted was to have my parenting time uninterrupted, as I knew that it would be a very difficult time for our kids to navigate their new normal," he added.

Wade accused his ex-wife of refusing to meet with their daughter's teachers, doctors, and therapists.

Wade said of his ex-wife, "She has not been to a school, recital, graduation, school dance, play date, practice, parent teacher conference etc and Zaya has given her every opportunity to try to get to know her. She won’t do it!"

"No one in our house would ever force Zaya or any of our children to do anything against their will, much less force an identity on them, "Wade added. This isn’t a game for my family and definitely not for Zaya. This is her life! All the while my wife and our village has been her rock in helping her pick up the pieces after heartbreak after heartbreak!"

The pair met when Wade was 9 years old, dated in high school, got married in 2002, had two children together, and got divorced in 2007.

Wade married actress Gabrielle Union in 2014. Union, 50, has been very supportive of Wade's child transitioning.

Wade has an 8-year-old son with ex-girlfriend Aja Metoyer and a 3-year-old daughter with Union.

Dwyane Wade wants his son to transition into a girl so that he can 'capitalize on the financial opportunities' from companies like Disney, ex-wife alleges

Former NBA star Dwyane Wade is now facing startling allegations from his ex-wife and the mother of his two children. His ex claims that Wade has pressured their younger son into becoming a girl so that Wade can reap a "profit" from various companies interested in using transgender models for their products.

Back in August, Wade filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court so that his 15-year-old son Zion can legally become a girl and change his name to Zaya. Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, who was married to Wade from 2002 until 2010, contested that filing, saying that it violates their custody agreement.

Their 2011 agreement awarded full custody of Zion and his older brother Zaire, who is now 20, to Wade. However, it also stated that Funches-Wade "shall discuss with and obtain input in the major decisions affecting care, welfare, activities, health, education and religious upbringing." Despite this statement of cooperative parenting, Wade insisted that he retains full authority to make decisions regarding Zion's supposed transgenderism and that he informed Funches-Wade about the transition only as a "courtesy."

Funches-Wade wants Zion to delay making any transition decisions until he is an adult. She also alleged that Wade and his current wife, Gabrielle Union, have a significant financial interest in having Zion become Zaya. She stated that back in March, Wade told her "that a lot of money had been already made and that additional money will be made in relation to our child’s name and gender issue." She also claimed that Wade mentioned several global corporations which were interested in investing in Zaya, though it is unclear whether they would still be interested in him, should he remain Zion.

Zion "came out" as a girl in 2019, when he was just 12. Since he has dressed as a girl and gone by the name Zaya, he has received modeling contracts from Tiffany and Dove. Funches-Wade also alleged in the filing that Disney may also be interested in signing a deal with Zaya.

"'I have concerns that [Wade] may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change in order to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies," Funches-Wade asserted in the court filing.

"[Wade] told me that he intended to make our child very famous due to the name and gender issue and also informed me that there would be endorsements/contracts associated therewith," the filing also states.

Wade discussed Zion's transition into Zaya on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in 2020.

"Our [then] 12-year-old came home ... and said, 'Hey, I want to talk to you guys. I think going forward I'm ready to live my truth, and I want to be referenced as 'she' and 'her,' and I would love for you guys to call me Zaya,'" Wade told host Ellen DeGeneres.

"I watched my son, from day one, become into who she now eventually has come into," he added. "And for me, ... nothing changes with my love. Nothing changes in my responsibilities. So, all I had to do now is get smarter, educate myself more. And that’s my job."

A hearing on the case is scheduled for December.

Dwayne Wade opens up about raising his transgender child: ‘Our home will never be a safe space for bigots’

NBA star Dwyane Wade and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, opened up about raising their 13-year-old transgender child, Zaya.

The child, who was born a biological male, announced that they were female in 2020.

At the time, Wade said, "Me and my wife ... are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community and we're proud allies as well. We take our roles and responsibility and parents very seriously."

What are the details?

In a recent interview with People, Wade and Union said that they fully support their child and that their home will "never be a safe space for bigots."

Wade and Union said that when Zaya was just three years old, the two began discussing "possibilities" regarding the child's future.

"We decided to approach it a different way," Wade said. "I come from a locker room of a macho, male-dominated sport. But I started learning and I started to watch her. And from then on, we started having more conversations."

Union said that when Zaya first came out as transgender, she didn't have many resources, but she was determined to support Zaya any which way possible.

"We weren't coming into it like it's got to be our way," she said. "We're going to mess up. We're going to say the wrong thing. But we had to learn and be led."

Wade explained, "When I look at Zaya, I get hope. Because I'm like, OK, we raised [our kids] to be authentic."

Wade and Union added that Zaya recently had a Zoom call with former first lady Michelle Obama.

"We were all bawling!" Union recalled. "She was so amazing and dynamic, and to be able to hold your own with Michelle Obama, it was so impactful."

She added, "Our home will never be a safe space for bigots. I look at problematic language as violence and I'm never going to expose anyone I love to violence, whether that be verbal, physical, emotional, or spiritual. Jerks exist in every area of life. And we function from a place of truth in our household. But if you come at us, oh. Be very prepared."

Wade concluded, "What I love about our home is that everybody is unique. And we allow their uniqueness to shine."
