Womp, womp! Massive layoffs hit Media Matters after Elon Musk lawsuit

Media Matters has solely existed to be a watchdog against the right for years, often seeking to ruin the lives of conservatives via cancel culture.

Now, the media company is having massive layoffs after Elon Musk brought it to court in November — and Lauren Chen is not above celebrating.

“They are a leftist watchdog organization that basically just exists to smear right-wing figures. And to be clear, the problem here is not that Media Matters advances, like, leftist talking points kind of, like, the Young Turks. No, Media Matters is really in a totally separate category,” Chen says.

“It seems like all they do is sit around consuming right-wing content, looking for sound bites or unflattering quotes to take out of context in the hopes of canceling right-wing figures,” she continues, adding, “and I therefore hate them.”

Last year, Media Matters messed up when it attempted to smear the wrong person and ended up getting sued by Musk. Media Matters was accused of manufacturing a report to show advertisers’ posts alongside neo-Nazi and white nationalist posts in order to “drive advertisers from the platform and destroy X corp.”

“They were essentially trying to play the algorithm to get really unflattering screenshots for X, even though for the average user this is not at all what would appear if you were using the platform,” Chen explains.

The media company has just now been forced to fire at least a dozen staffers.

“We’re confronting a legal assault on multiple fronts, and given how rapidly the media landscape is shifting, we need to be extremely intentional about how we allocate resources in order to stay effective,” the president of Media Matters, Angelo Carusone, said in a statement.

“For right-wing content creators like myself, that means there’s going to be fewer people out there looking to basically quote mine you in the hopes of destroying your career,” Chen says happily.

Texas attorney general announces investigation into Media Matters after Elon Musk files 'thermonuclear lawsuit'

The attorney general for the state of Texas announced an investigation into the left-wing activist site Media Matters after tech billionaire Elon Musk filed what he called a "thermonuclear lawsuit" against the organization.

Media Matters sought to pressure advertisers to abandon the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, based on their report claiming that their advertisements would appear next to "white nationalist hashtags."

Musk vehemently denied the report and accused the organization of completely misrepresenting the "real user experience" on the website to deceive advertisers. Several companies announced that they would end their advertising campaigns on the platform, including IBM, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, and Paramount.

On Monday, Musk filed his lawsuit, and Paxton announced his investigation very soon afterward.

"Today I opened an investigation into Media Matters for potential fraudulent activity after X CEO Elon Musk accused the left-wing media watchdog group of manipulating data on the social media platform," said Paxton in a statement on social media.

"We are examining the issue closely to ensure that the public has not been deceived by the schemes of radical left-wing organizations who would like nothing more than to limit freedom by reducing participation in the public square," he added.

Media Matters previously released a statement about the threat of litigation from Musk.

“Far from the free speech advocate he claims to be, Musk is a bully who threatens meritless lawsuits in an attempt to silence reporting that he even confirmed is accurate,” said Angelo Carusone, president of MMFA. “Musk admitted the ads at issue ran alongside the pro-Nazi content we identified. If he does sue us, we will win.”

Republican Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey also said that his legal team was looking into the accusations against Media Matters on Sunday.

Musk appeared eager to battle with the liberal organization, adding, "The discovery and depositions will be glorious to behold."

#BanTheADL — 'If you're a fan of BlazeTV, odds are the ADL would likely label you anti-Semitic'

If you try to look up what ADL stands for on the group's website, you won't find the correct answer, which is the Anti-Defamation League. Instead, this is what you’ll find:

The reality is, however, that fighting antisemitism and other forms of hate is just a guise to mask the organization’s intentions to control and censor, which is why there’s been a widespread increase in people calling for the banning of the ADL.

“Even though the organization claims to just simply stand against antisemitism and against bigotry in practice, in reality, they are nothing more than a bunch of crybullies who use the accusation of antisemitism or bigotry to silence dissent and any criticism of leftism or globalism,” says Lauren Chen.

For example, the ADL has specifically targeted people like Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump, labeling them as anti ________ (insert whatever word you fancy.)

Jonathan Greenblatt, the director of the ADL, tweeted this following Tucker’s departure from Fox News:

“It’s about time. For far too long, Tucker Carlson has used his primetime show to spew antisemitic, racist, xenophobic and anti-LGBTQ hate to millions. @ADL has long called for his firing for this and many other offenses, including spreading the Great Replacement Theory.”

Greenblatt also stated that banning Trump from Twitter was “an excellent step” and “a fitting end to a legacy of spewing hate and vitriol.”

And while genuine antisemitism and hatred are wrong, “this isn't actually about antisemitism,” says Lauren. “If you're a fan of BlazeTV, odds are the ADL would likely label you anti-Semitic too.”

Why? Because, in the eyes of the ADL, if you're watching BlazeTV, chances are you too stand against the woke nonsense plaguing the country, making you a terrible, hate-filled person who deserves to be silenced.

Perhaps even more upsetting is the fact that the platform is also incredibly hypocritical. The ADL went after Tucker for discussing demographic changes in the U.S. as a result of immigration, but its website states:

“With historically high birth rates among Palestinians, and a possible influx of Palestinian refugees and their descendants now living around the world, Jews would quickly be a minority. ... It is unrealistic and unacceptable to expect the State of Israel to voluntarily subvert its own sovereign existence and nationalist identity and become a vulnerable minority within what was once its own territory.”

Hmmm. So it’s okay to advocate for borders for Israelis to prevent them from becoming minorities, but it's not okay to advocate for borders for Americans to prevent them from becoming minorities?

However, the tides may be turning for the ADL. It appears that the organization may have made a potentially “fatal misstep” by effectively choosing to “slander and defame X or Twitter under Elon Musk's leadership,” says Lauren.

Ironically, Musk is suing the organization for defamation — the very thing they supposedly stand against — and he's got a darn good case.

Are Elon Musk and Twitter/X getting CANCELED?

Elon Musk might have dreams of going to Mars, but for now, he’s in a battle with the Anti-Defamation League.

Musk is threatening to sue the ADL for defamation, claiming the nonprofit organization is making erroneous claims about rising hate speech on the platform, which has torpedoed X’s advertising revenue.

Musk tweeted that U.S. advertising revenue is “still down 60%, primarily due to pressure on advertisers by @ADL (that’s what advertisers tell us), so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter.”

He has also remarked that the ADL is focused on ruining X by “falsely accusing” both the platform and him of being anti-Semitic.

Jason Whitlock isn’t surprised, saying the ADL is “not really all that interested in antisemitism as much as they’re interested in controlling the conversation and limiting public discourse and free speech in America.”

Whitlock’s guest, Royce White, says that despite the fact that it seems Musk is going to war for free speech, White's opinion on the man hasn't changed.

“I don’t trust anybody who wants to participate in putting chips in people’s brains. I don’t trust anybody who wants to participate in the electric vehicle initiative all around the world. I think it’s a means to impede the freedom of movement for citizens,” White says.

White is convinced Musk’s innovations will “aid and assist the fourth industrial revolution in all of these efforts to, you know, control and dominate people through e-commerce and central bank digital currency, social credit scores,” which he says are “all on the way.”

When Whitlock questions whether this battle with the ADL gives White even a little more of a positive view of the X owner, White replies, “No, it doesn’t.”

“He has to defend himself, but him defending himself doesn’t mean that he’s defending us,” White says.

“It’s a very simple concept. The ADL is not a free speech organization. They are a censoring organization. They want to censor free speech. Elon Musk is lukewarm on free speech. So, if they have a fight with each other over on their side of the fence, that’s got nothing to do with me,” he adds.

'There will be blood': Elon Musk declares he's assembling 'litigation department' of 'hardcore streetfighters'

Elon Musk proclaimed that he is personally recruiting lawyers for a "hardcore litigation department" at Tesla. Musk threatened that there "will be blood" after he assembles his new cadre of "hardcore" streetfighting lawyers.

"Tesla is building a hardcore litigation department where we directly initiate & execute lawsuits," Musk tweeted on Friday.

Musk noted that the legal team would report "directly" to him.

Musk vowed that Tesla's new litigation department "will never seek victory in a just case against us, even if we will probably win." He also promised, "We will never surrender/settle an unjust case against us, even if we will probably lose."

The Tesla CEO asked for potential candidates to send him up to five bullet points that show "evidence of exceptional ability."

Musk requested applicants include "links to cases you have tried."

The SpaceX founder declared, "Looking for hardcore streetfighters, not white-shoe lawyers like Perkins or Cooley who thrive on corruption. There will be blood."

Musk is referencing high-profile law firms Perkins Coie and Cooley.

My commitment:\n\n- We will never seek victory in a just case against us, even if we will probably win. \n\n- We will never surrender/settle an unjust case against us, even if we will probably lose.

Musk did not detail what legal war he intends to engage in with his upcoming hardcore litigation department.

Musk is currently embroiled in several issues and firestorms.

A Business Insider report claimed that Musk made sexual advances on a former flight attendant during a SpaceX corporate jet flight in 2016. The report alleged that Musk offered the flight attendant "to buy her a horse in exchange for an erotic massage."

"In November 2018, Musk, SpaceX and the flight attendant entered into a severance agreement granting the attendant a $250,000 payment in exchange for a promise not to sue over the claims," the report said. "The agreement also included restrictive non-disclosure and non-disparagement clauses that bar the attendant from ever discussing the severance payment or disclosing any information of any kind about Musk and his businesses, including SpaceX and Tesla."

The tech billionaire called the accusations "utterly untrue." He added that there was "a lot more to this story," and said the report was a "politically motivated hit piece."

Musk is also dealing with the revelation that Twitter has a bot and spam problem that is larger than he anticipated before he offered $44 billion to buy the popular social media platform.

Earlier this month, he said that his acquisition of Twitter was on hold.

Musk is also dealing with the backlash to a recent comment where he said that he would vote Republican in the next election.
