Left-wing academic violates Twitter rules by wishing Queen Elizabeth II an 'excruciating' death

As the world mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, a self-described feminist university professor was roundly condemned for wishing the queen an "excruciating" death.

"I heard the chief monarch of a thieving raping genocidal empire is finally dying. May her pain be excruciating," Carnegie Mellon University linguistics professor Dr. Uju Anya wrote on Twitter Thursday morning after news broke that doctors were concerned for the queen's health. Her tweet has since been taken down for violating Twitter rules.

But Anya's sentiments were shared by a handful of other left-wing academics and media personalities, who called the queen a "colonizer" and expressed disdain for the British empire.

"Real question for the 'now is not the appropriate time to talk about the negative impact of colonialism' crowd: When is the appropriate time to talk about the negative impact of colonialism?" Washington Post national political reporter Eugene Scott tweeted.

"I will not mourn a colonizer," wrote Aabria Iyengar, a tabletop role-playing game streamer who has appeared as a guest on the popular Critical Role show.

"Good riddance to any and all murdering colonizers," said independent journalist Kavin Senapathy.

Ebony Elizabeth Thomas, an associate professor at the University of Michigan, defended criticisms of the queen upon her death.

“Telling the colonized how they should feel about their colonizer's health and wellness is like telling my people that we ought to worship the Confederacy. 😒

"Respect the dead" when we're all writing these Tweets *in English.* How'd that happen, hm? We just chose this language?”

"Telling the colonized how they should feel about their colonizer's health and wellness is like telling my people that we ought to worship the Confederacy," she wrote. "'Respect the dead' when we're all writing these Tweets *in English.* How'd that happen, hm? We just chose this language?"

However, many others swiftly condemned Anya and came to the defense of the queen and her legacy.

“This is someone supposedly working to make the world better?” billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos wrote, quoting Anya's tweet. "I don't think so. Wow."

"You vile disgusting moron," British broadcast journalist Piers Morgan said to Anya.

"Uju, what happened to your family is a tragedy but Britain under Queen Elizabeth II was far less of a 'thieving raping genocidal empire' than it had been before then -- and for all its faults, that empire had positive consequences, as well. She wasn't the villain you suggest," Fox News editor Tyler O'Neil charitably wrote.

Anya posted a follow-up message at 1:51 p.m. ET after Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II had passed.

"If anyone expects me to express anything but disdain for the monarch who supervised a government that sponsored the genocide that massacred and displaced half my family and the consequences of which those alive today are still trying to overcome, you can keep wishing upon a star," shewrote.

Candace Owens hits back after social media slams her for blasting pop star Harry Styles' ball gown Vogue photo shoot

Conservative commentator and activist Candace Owens took fire from much of social media after blasting a Vogue photo shoot featuring ball gown-clad pop star Harry Styles.

What are the details?

On Saturday, Owens shared photos from the shoot and captioned it, "There is no society that can survive without strong men. The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack. Bring back manly men."

For his part, Styles was quoted as telling the long-running fashion magazine, "There's so much joy to be had in playing with clothes. I've never thought too much about what it means — it just becomes this extended part of creating something."

Elsewhere in the fashion profile, Styles added, "Now I'll put on something that feels really flamboyant, and I don't feel crazy wearing it. I think if you get something that you feel amazing in, it's like a superhero outfit. Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with. What's really exciting is that all of these lines are just kind of crumbling away. When you take away 'There's clothes for men and there's clothes for women,' once you remove any barriers, obviously you open up the arena in which you can play."

What was the reaction?

Actress Olivia Wilde shredded Owens for her remarks, simply responding, "You're pathetic."

Actor Elijah Wood chimed in, "[I] think you've missed the definition of what a man is. [M]asculinity alone does not make a man." In a second tweet, he wrote, "[I]n fact, it's got nothing to do with it."

PC Mag editor Will Greenwald added, "Maybe your first mistake was looking for aggressive masculinity in Vogue. Well, your second mistake. Your first mistake was fetishizing it at all."

Dr. Eugene Gu, founder and CEO of CoolQuit.com, wrote, "Harry Styles wearing a dress doesn't threaten anyone's masculinity except for those who pay such close attention to the cover of Vogue magazine that they have to cry and scream on social media like overly emotional snowflakes and then falsely accuse Harry of destroying society."

After her initial remarks went viral, Owens shared a follow-up tweet about the attention, writing, "Since I'm trending I'd like to clarify what I meant when I said 'bring back manly men.' I meant: Bring back manly men. Terms like 'toxic masculinity,' were created by toxic females. Real women don't do fake feminism. Sorry I'm not sorry."

Tulsi Gabbard flattens Netflix in scathing rebuke over 'Cuties': 'Netflix, you are now complicit' in child sex trafficking

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) says Netflix is complicit in child sex trafficking as the distributor of French award-winning film, "Cuties."

What's a brief history here?

The streaming giant is under fire after releasing the film, which many say is nothing short of pedophilia.

In a statement to TheBlaze, a Netflix spokesperson said that people who care about stomping out child sexualization should watch the film.

"Cuties is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children," the spokesperson told TheBlaze on Friday. "It's an award winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up — and we'd encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie."

You can read more about the highly controversial film offering here.

What are the details?

Gabbard — former Democratic presidential candidate and combat veteran — writes, "[C]hild porn 'Cuties' will certainly whet the appetite of pedophiles & help fuel the child sex trafficking trade. 1 in 4 victims of trafficking are children. It happened to my friend's 13 year old daughter. Netflix, you are now complicit."

Gabbard closed the tweet with the now-viral hashtag, #CancelNetflix.

Her tweet, less than 12 hours old at the time of this reporting, has received more than 121,000 likes.

Elsewhere in the lengthy thread, Gabbard said that she put her money where her mouth is and cancelled Netflix.

At the time of this reporting, at least 623,000 people have signed a petition encouraging others to cancel Netflix amid the controversy.

A contrary viewpoint

In response to Gabbard's widely liked tweet, Dr. Eugene Gu, CEO and founder of CoolQuit — who boasts more than 500,000 Twitter followers — fired back, "The film Cuties is a social commentary AGAINST child sexualization and exploitation. But social media and the mainstream media is all about Puritanical false accusations because this is America, and this is how we roll."

Liberals attack Melania Trump with hate over Rose Garden renovation: 'The worst first lady in history'

Liberals attacked Melania Trump over the weekend after the first lady unveiled renovations to the Rose Garden at the White House.

What is the background?

According to CNN, the Rose Garden has been under construction since last month to undergo horticultural and technological updates.

From CNN:

The restoration resembles the original design and formation of the Rose Garden, established by President John F. Kennedy, and implemented in 1962 by horticulturist and philanthropist Rachel "Bunny" Mellon. The garden had not undergone a comprehensive refresh since then.

One of the first lady's stated goals for the renovation was to "fulfill the dynamic needs of the modern presidency," so part of the updated design includes modern features for audio and visual capabilities, as well as lighting and access for television cameras.

On Saturday, Melania unveiled the renovated garden.

— Melania Trump (@Melania Trump)1598115660.0

What was the response?

Liberals who are not fond of President Donald Trump tore into Melania over the renovation.

"You destroyed our garden! How DARE you! Do you have no appreciation of history? Do you have no understanding of America, of what this gorgeous place MEANT?! Your tasteless, crass, white-power mindset is disgusting. Get out of OUR house! It's not yours to destroy!" liberal writer Kurt Eichenwald said.

"The Rose Garden now looks like a cemetery, which perhaps is actually appropriate given what your husband has done to our country," Eugene Gu responded.

Author Don Winslow said, "Dear @FLOTUS You are the worst first lady in history. 80% of Americans just hate you. We will all remember that when you Trump did every evil thing he did you were standing right beside him cheering him on. You supported and enabled hate, torture, death, assault, & racism."

Others commented:

 • "I'm an avid gardener and conservationist. But here's some non-political feedback. And I've never tweeted to the WH, POTUS, or FLOTUS until right now. This is terrible. Removing pollinator trees and replacing with so much lawn is so bad ecologically. This makes me sad," another person commented.
 • "This is the 'Rose Garden: Pandemic Version!' It is devoid of color & lifeless. It looks like a garden that one would see at a war memorial. What were they thinking?" another person said.
 • "Sad. It was lovely before. 30 million Americans dont have enough food. and you do this- at our expense," another person said.
 • "Cool. You spent time and money changing something that didn't need to be changed - as your citizens struggle to survive," yet another person responded.

Despite what her detractors said, public funds did not finance the renovation. According to CNN, it was paid for through private donations.
