Melania’s Abortion Support Further Discourages Pro-Life Votes For Trump
Melania Trump’s unequivocal support for abortion puts pro-lifers, the Republican Party, and her husband in a rather difficult position.
President Joe Biden crumbled in his debate Thursday with former President Donald Trump in Atlanta, prompting even his biggest boosters at allied news outlets to eulogize his campaign. While Biden's garbled answers, bouts of confusion, and departures from reality were damning enough for the 81-year-old Democrat, his wife found a way to make matters worse.
Footage captured by CNN shows former President Donald Trump confidently stride off the CNN debate hall stage following the ordeal. His opponent, however, would not exit unaided.
Jill Biden can be seen carefully taking the president's hand and slowly leading him down roughly three steps.
The juxtaposition of the brutal debate with Biden's subsequent need for direction and a crutch prompted some critics to speculate about the first lady's real role as well as her silence in the face of the president's unmistakable decrepitude.
'Shameful actions as a wife.'
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) responded to the video, "Who is the Commander in Chief?"
Conservative commentator Laura Ingraham noted, "She did this. Embarrassed him, his party and destroyed the country's border and economy by letting him run. Horrible."
Former ESPN host Sage Steele tweeted, "Shame on Jill Biden for allowing this to go on for so very long. Shameful actions as a wife. Shameful actions as a human being."
Some critics asked whether CNN had accidentally broadcast one of the so-called "cheap fakes" its talking heads previously joined the White House in concern-mongering about.
A video went viral earlier this month of Obama having to escort Biden off the stage at a fundraising event after the president locked up in front of an audience. "They are cheap-fakes video," said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. "They are done in bad faith."
Jill Biden did not promptly escort Biden back home Thursday, but rather to a watch party, where she would humiliate him again, this time in front of a crowd of supporters.
Joe Biden spent over a week at Camp David preparing for the debate. With the help of over a dozen current and former aides, the New York Times indicated he engaged in multiple strategy sessions and practiced on a mock debate stage. According to the suggestion Thursday by CNN's Erin Burnett, he might also have received the questions to run through in advance.
In light of the investment of time, money, and energy in debate preparation, there was likely some expectation of a passable showing. Jill Biden indicated, however, just how low the bar had been set.
When introducing the leader of the free world, Jill Biden said, "Joe, you did such a great job. You answered every question."
"And let me ask the crowd: What did Trump do? Lie!" added the first lady.
While many critics suggested Jill Biden's commendation of the president for the satisfaction of the bare minimum was condescending, others suggested it was indicative instead of a deluded sense he might actually have done all right — a sense anchored in a desire to hold on to power.
Late Thursday night, Jill Biden released a video claiming, "He's the president we need — the president you deserve."

First lady Jill Biden shared a video featuring a performance by the Dorrance Dance tap dance company, and people on social media have been mercilessly panning the spectacle.
"A bit of magic, wonder, and joy brought to you by the talented tappers of Dorrance Dance, performing their playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite," the first lady's social media posts read. "Enjoy!"

But far from enjoying it, many commenters skewered the performance. Some drew comparisons to "The Hunger Games."
"The chestnuts are not getting roasted but Jill Biden is for her Hunger Games Capital District Christmas approach this year. Brutal comments," Mollie Hemingway wrote.
"Evidently the White House has become an elaborate set for the next Hunger Games movie," GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt of Missouri tweeted.
"Thanks it's the worst thing I've ever seen," Matt Walsh tweeted.
"This is a crime against Christmas," Stephen Miller declared.
"Okay, I'm onboard with impeachment," Frank J. Fleming tweeted.
"What fresh Hell is this?" BlazeTV host Steve Deace tweeted.
"Watching this is making me racist and homophobic," quipped Rob Smith, who is black and identifies as gay.
"Why would Jill Biden do this to us? This is flopping harder than Bidenomics," Jason Rantz tweeted.
In a note on the dance company's website, Michelle Dorrance describes herself as "a white tap dancer with Black cultural ancestors in a society that privileges white people and whiteness."
"It is from this place of white privilege that I invite you to join me in lifelong antiracism work. Understanding how deeply embedded white supremacy, racism, and colonialism is in our culture is paramount to understanding our role (as white people) in perpetuating it, and embracing our job to dismantle it. That understanding is incredibly important to me as a human being and to me as a tap dancer," Dorrance wrote.

First lady Jill Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, but White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Tuesday that President Joe Biden had tested negative for COVID-19 on Monday night and again on Tuesday. She also said that the president is not feeling any symptoms and will wear a face mask while indoors near other people, but will take the mask off when adequately distanced from other individuals.
"This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19," Jill Biden's communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, noted in a statement on Monday. "She is currently experiencing only mild symptoms. She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware."
The first lady previously had a bout with COVID-19 last year. In August 2022, Alexander had issued a statement noting that the "double-vaccinated, twice boosted" first lady had tested positive.
Jill Biden later tested negative before testing positive again. "This represents a 'rebound' positivity," the first lady's deputy communications director, Kelsey Donohue, said in an August 2022 statement. "The First Lady has experienced no reemergence of symptoms," Donohue noted.
President Biden did not wear a mask on Tuesday while awarding the Medal of Honor to Captain Larry L. Taylor of the U.S. Army. While the president could be seen wearing a face mask at the start of the event, he removed it during the prayer and then proceeded to deliver remarks at the podium before placing the Medal of Honor around Taylor's neck.
