25-year-old former college football tight end dies after suffering heart attack while jogging

Jake Hescock — a 25-year-old former college football tight end who played for a pair of Division 1 programs — has died after suffering a heart attack, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

What are the details?

Hescock — who played for the University of Wisconsin and the University of Central Florida — was jogging in Boston on Dec. 6 when he suffered a cardiac arrest, the paper said.

A passerby provided CPR, and Hescock was taken to a hospital before being placed on life support, the Sentinel said.

Hescock’s cousin Lisa Walz Mlynarczyk wrote Sunday on Facebook, "It is with a heavy heart that I have to say my cousin Jake has passed on, may he Rest in Peace and forever shine his bright soul down upon us ..."

Mlynarczyk noted in her post that damage to Hescock's brain from lack of oxygen was "severe."

What was Hescock's football history?

The Sentinel reported that Hescock was a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, attended Salisbury School in Connecticut, and then went to the University of Wisconsin to play football. The paper said after his freshman season, Hescock — a 6-foot-7 tight end — transferred to the University of Central Florida, where he played from 2017 to 2021.

Here's a tribute tweet from UCF:

After sitting out the 2017 season due to his transfer, Hescock caught two passes for 13 yards and 1 touchdown in the 2018 season, the Sentinel said. Hescock became the team’s top tight end in 2019, making nine catches for 87 yards and a pair of touchdowns, the paper said. In 2020, he caught 10 passes for 53 yards and three touchdowns, the Sentinel noted, adding that his final season was 2021.

Following college, Hescock moved back to Massachusetts and retired from football, the paper reported.

College football player dies suddenly just before his 19th birthday

Mississippi State University football player Samuel Westmoreland died at the age of just 18, mere days before he would have turned 19 on Friday, according to the Mississippi State Athletics website. He played as an offensive lineman on the school's team

The cause of his death is currently unclear.

Capt. Brett Watson with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office informed the Clarion Ledger that authorities responded to a call on Wednesday. The young man was found dead outside of Blackjack Missionary Baptist Church. Foul play is not suspected as a factor.

"The university is working cooperatively with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Office, the Oktibbeha County Coroner's Office, the MSU Division of Student Affairs, and the MSU Athletics Department to determine the facts of this incident and will have no further comment until that assessment is completed," the post on the Mississippi State Athletics website noted.

"The Mississippi State Athletics Family is heartbroken by the sudden death of Sam Westmoreland," MSU head football coach Mike Leach said in a statement. "Sam was a beloved son, brother and teammate, and a tremendous young man with a limitless future. He will always be remembered and deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him. The entire MSU Family mourns as our thoughts and prayers go out to the Westmoreland family. Our highest priority is the support of the Westmoreland family and our student-athletes during this troubling time."

"One of the most profound lessons I've learned while leading this great university is that the tragic loss of one of our students diminishes all of our students—and all of us at Mississippi State feel the impact of Sam Westmoreland's death," MSU President Mark E. Keenum said, according to the school. "My prayers are with Sam's family and friends, with his MSU teammates and coaches, and with the Tupelo community during this most difficult time."

Report: Former NFL draft pick punches United Airlines worker, knocks him to floor. But bloody-faced employee also gets his licks in, keeps coming for more.

A former NFL draft pick reportedly was caught on video fighting a United Airlines worker — repeatedly punching the UA employee and even knocking him to the floor at one point and bloodying his face. But the airline worker also hit the player and actually came after him after getting punched to the ground.

According to TMZ, the football player is Brendan Langley, a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft. He played a bit for the Denver Broncos and now is with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.

Langley was arrested and charged with simple assault, TMZ reported, citing police. But the outlet added that the airline employee wasn't arrested despite Langley's claim that he didn't throw the first punch.

What went down?

The fight took place at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to the Daily Mail. The date and time of the fight — and who instigated the violence — remain unclear, but clips of the scary dust-up first surfaced Sunday.

Initially the passenger appears to get the better of the employee, slapping him once in the face and punching him several times in the face and sending him backward into the UA counter. But the employee marches forward, puts up his fists, and slaps the passenger in the face:

After getting slapped, the passenger hollers, "You saw that s**t?" and punches the employee hard in the face, knocking him backward again into the counter. The passenger then lands a second punch, and this wallop sends the worker behind the desk, after which he tumbles over an object — his feet swinging back and above his head — and falls flat on the floor:

Despite his bloody face and appearing woozy, the UA worker manages to stagger to his feet and come back out and confront the passenger again:

"He wants more!" the stunned passenger hollers.

No other violence ensues as another individual — apparently a UA employee — comes into the frame and puts her hand up as if to call an end to the fighting.

The passenger loudly adds, "He works at the airport, and he assaulted me!"

Anything else?

According to the Daily Mail, the employee had confronted the passenger over his use of a wheelchair.

"United Airlines does not tolerate violence of any kind at our airports or on board our planes, and we are working with local authorities to further investigate this matter," the carrier told the Daily Mail in a statement.

Travel website Live and Let's Fly mocked United over the incident, bringing up the airline's “Good Leads the Way" national ad campaign that launched last week and adding that "whatever happened before the video started recording, the United agent could have walked away and called the police. Instead, he chose to fight."
