Troy Aikman responds to online furor against comment asking the NFL to 'take the dresses off' on safety rules

NFL Hall of Fame icon Troy Aikman offered a brief response to the online furor over his comment calling on the league to "take the dresses off" when considering quarterback safety rules.

Aikman made the off the cuff remark after a controversial referee call during the Monday Night Football game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.

"My hope is the competition committee looks at this during the set of meetings and, you know, we take the dresses off,” said Aikman.

The former quarterback was immediately assailed by numerous commenters on social media who thought he was being sexist and misogynist.

Video of the comment was widely circulated on social media:

On Thursday, Aikman responded with a short statement expressing his regret.

"My comments were dumb, just shouldn't have made them," he said on 96.7 the Ticket, according to WOKV-TV.

"Just dumb remarks on my part," he added.

He went on to address the overall controversy with the play involving defensive tackle Chris Jones being penalized for landing on top of quarterback Derek Carr before ripping the football out of his hands.

"I do think we're, as I said, I think we're over-officiating it. But these are the rules," Aikman said. "I mean, as the rule reads and if you watch that in real time, it would be hard to look at that play with Chris Jones in our game and not feel like he landed on the quarterback with his body weight, you know?"

The controversial referee call led to a significant benefit for the Raiders who were able to avoid turning over possession of the ball to the Chiefs and went on to kick a field goal before halftime. Despite the call, the Raiders went on to narrowly miss an unlikely comeback against the Chiefs. The Chiefs won by a score of 29 to 30.

Troy Aikman says NFL should 'take the dresses off' regarding too many penalties for roughing the passer. Now woke mob wants ex-QB canceled over his 'misogyny.'

Troy Aikman — the NFL Hall of Famer who's arguably the game's best color commentator — said during ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcast that the league should "take the dresses off" in regard to the numerous penalties for roughing the passer that have been called so far this season.

As you might imagine, the woke mob now wants Aikman's head on a platter over his "misogyny."

Here's audio of his comment after a penalty against Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Chris Jones after he tackled Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr:

“My hope is the competition committee looks at this during the set of meetings and, you know, we take the dresses off,” said Aikman, who won three Super Bowls calling signals for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s.

How are folks reacting?

Aikman's comments drew plenty of attention on social media, and the woke mob demanded punishment.

  • "Did Troy Aikman really just say what I think he said? Did he really just say that it's time for the league to 'take the dresses off'?" sports commentator Jason Page asked. "The 60s called, they want their chauvinist back. Seriously @ESPN... do better than that crap.
  • "Troy Aikman really needs to find a non-misogynistic way to critique the call besides 'take the dresses off,'" Chuck Modi — a self-described "justice journalist" — said. "And I say this as someone who heard this misogyny normalized by coaches as a kid & even participated myself. Way past time to end such sports talk."
  • Rachel Schallom Lobdell, editorial director at Fortune Magazine, noted the "truly awful call, but let’s not overlook Troy Aikman’s sexist comment ..."
  • "Did Troy Aikman just say that he hopes the competition committee 'takes their dresses off'? As in trying to demean them by calling them women? Is he actually serious?" asked Arielle Orsuto, sports reporter for Denver's KUSA-TV.

Others agreed:

  • "Troy Aikman just said 'we need to take the dresses off' on national TV about a call," one Twitter user said. "Can we as a country cancel him so I never have to hear his voice again?"
  • "Troy Aikman is a dumb ass; he needs to be fired," another commenter said. "There's no place for that kind of talk in broadcasting. There's plenty of people who can do his job; they don't need Aikman."

But many — including the vast majority of those responding to above tweet with audio of Aikman's comment — weren't offended and ripped the woke mob:

  • "As a woman, who watches every minute of RedZone, NFL Network, and anything else football related, I found Troy’s comment hilarious NOT misogynistic!" one commenter said. "So sick of all the PC in this country!"
  • "Incredible hilarious and a comment that is so overdue, both for football and society," another user said.

Terry Bradshaw complimented a female sports reporter on her looks and Twitter is very angry

Terry Bradshaw complimented a female sports journalist on her looks and many on social media tried to cancel the NFL icon.

Bradshaw was transitioning from an interview segment with Erin Andrews on Thursday Night Football when he complimented her attire.

"You got your cowboy boots on and your shirt. You're looking good and I enjoyed that interview," Bradshaw said to Andrews on-air.

Some viewers said the comments were inappropriate while others went so far as accusing Bradshaw of sexual harassment.

"This is why nothing will ever change with men in total control. Did anyone hear what Terry Bradshaw said to Erin Andrews? He went straight to how hot she looked in her cowboy boots while she was interviewing Devin White. He just said it out loud on National TV like it was okay," said one critic on Twitter.

Video of Bradshaw's comments were widely circulated on Twitter:

"Here's my semi-regular plea to Get Terry Bradshaw Off The Air. His good 'ole boy routine is over," tweeted University of Massachusetts sports journalism director Steve Fox.

Comedian Kathleen Madigan tweeted that Bradshaw should be called "Mr. Perv" over the comments.

"Mr. Misogyny," replied one of her followers.

"Uh Terry Bradshaw just dished some sexual harassment towards Erin Andrews on TV…wtf. When are we going to get these idiots out of media/sports," another tweet read.

"Cancel Terry Bradshaw for objectifying woman's bodies. Erin Andrews should be able to wear whatever she wants without snide comments. She's a professional, not walking past a construction site," tweeted another detractor.

Despite the outrage from some, many others defended Bradshaw and said there wasn't nothing wrong with him complimenting Andrews.

The online outrage comes on the heels of an email scandal that took down Jon Gruden, who was forced to step down as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. Among the emails that tanked his reputation were those reportedly containing topless photographs of cheerleaders for the Washington football team.

Bradshaw commented on the Gruden situation during the same broadcast as his controversial compliments.

"This is just tragic, are we ever gonna get past this? It just seems like you take one step forward and two steps back," said Bradshaw.

Outrage mob tries to cancel 'cis white male' Bill Burr for Grammy's appearance where he mocks feminists

Bill Burr was a top trend on Twitter early Thursday evening, not for one of his many highly-rated comedy specials or his role as Migs Mayfeld in "The Mandalorian." Instead, the stand-up comedy veteran was being assailed by the outrage mob, who were actively trying to cancel him for jokes he made during the 2021 Grammy Awards.

In an unusual move, the comedian presented the Grammy Award for "Best Regional Mexican Album,” which aired before the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. Burr, who is never shy to tell the audience exactly what he is thinking, angered many people with his brash and unapologetic comedy style.

From the get-go, Burr set the tone that he was not going to be your typical Grammy's Award presenter. The comedian joked, "Was I the only one who wanted to kill himself after that piano solo."

Then he did some self-deprecating humor and called himself a "moron" for buying a new suit to present an award during the pre-Grammy's show that was done remotely and nobody would see.

The wisecrack mocking woke culture hit a nerve and unleashed hundreds of tweets demanding the comedian be canceled for saying a joke.

There were furious calls to "ban all white men" and "for all white men to be kept in cages." Another commenter inexplicably said he was "making fun of civil rights movements." One person said Burr doesn't have a comedic bone in his body. Burr has six comedy specials and was a regular on "Chappelle's Show."
