Male with loaded gun tries to rob people in car. But driver also is armed — and things don't end well for alleged crook.

Police in Glendale, California, told KABC-TV a 37-year-old male with a loaded weapon tried to rob two people sitting in an SUV on Sunday night. But the driver, who also was armed, turned the tables and fatally shot the assailant.

Officers responded to the 200 block of East Dryden Street around 10:40 p.m. and found a male in the middle of the road with a single gunshot wound, police told the station.

'If somebody finds themselves in a situation where their life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger, I as a ... community member, as a citizen, would do whatever I could to protect myself and anybody else.'

Investigators determined that the male they found — identified Tuesday as Edward Mazon, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office — approached the pair and tried to rob them, KABC said. Police added to the station that the driver of the SUV "apparently shot Mazon, then drove away."

Mazon was pronounced dead at the scene, KABC said, and police are trying to locate the pair who were in the SUV. Authorities are viewing them as victims, not as suspects facing any murder charges, KNBC-TV said

Sgt. Vahe Abramyan, a spokesperson for the Glendale Police Department, added to KNBC that "everything's possible, but at this point, it appears that they are victims."

Police told KNBC-TV that several people called 911, and more than a dozen neighbors watched paramedics perform CPR on a man in the middle of Dryden Street near Brand Boulevard.

“I saw the EMT do the chest compressions, like furiously, [I] had no idea what was going on," resident Terri Robertson told KNBC. "And then a minute later, they're covering him with a sheet."

Robertson added to the station that if the victims were held at gunpoint, she supports them fighting back: “I would say they have to, I would say they have to, because crime is getting really crazy everywhere."

Abramyan added to KNBC that "if somebody finds themselves in a situation where their life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger, I as a ... community member, as a citizen, would do whatever I could to protect myself and anybody else. You are responsible ultimately for the actions that you commit, but if it's a life or death situation, that's going to be a judgment call on that person.”

Those with information about the shooting are urged to contact the Glendale Police Robbery/Homicide detectives at 818-548-3987 or the police department at 818 549-4911, KABC said.

Christian leader in critical condition after being shot in head preaching: 'People are following darkness instead of light'

A beloved religious leader was shot in the head Wednesday night while preaching the gospel in Glendale, Arizona.

Hans Schmidt, a young father and outreach director for the nondenominational Victory Chapel First Phoenix, was standing at the northwest corner of 51st and Peoria avenues with his megaphone, quoting scripture and preaching to passersby ahead of an evening service. Around 6 p.m., someone evidently pulled a gun on him, reported AZFamily.

It's unclear whether the shooter attempted the apparent assassination on foot or from a car.

KNXV-TV indicated police initially were dispatched to a hospital following reports that someone had been assaulted, but they soon discovered the victim had been shot.

The Victory Chapel revealed in a statement Thursday, "Hans was taken to the ER where they discovered he had been shot after conducting a CT scan. He began seizing and was intubated. There has been some movement; however, physicians are uncertain how much is voluntary and began draining fluid from his brain. He remains in critical condition, please continue praying."

Zulya Schmidt, the victim's wife, noted in a Meta post, "Believing God has the final say. I love you so much babe."

Henry Branch, a nearby resident, said, "Who knows why someone would want to take it out on a preacher like that because he's speaking the gospel and good news to everybody. He's out to help the community."

KSAZ-TV indicated that following the shooting, police told nearby business owners to clear out, including the titular owner of Jesse James Comics.

"It's something where they preach so much on this corner, and it's such a congested area," said James. "I always thought they might get hit by a car. I didn't know they would be shot."

Paul Sanchez works nearby and recalled occasionally seeing people drive by, cursing and screaming at Schmidt as he preached. However, Sanchez said the preacher never responded with hostility.

"There was a slurry of everything, really. I mean, hateful comments, people yelling at him, 'Just get off the street.' All sorts of mean things," Sanchez told AZFamily.

Larry Dettman, a congregant who learned during a church service Wednesday night from Pastor Gary Marsh what had befallen Schmidt, said, "Out of nowhere, how does this happen? You know, there's some evil people in this world that have got a bunch of human junk in their life and they take it out on somebody else."

"People are following darkness instead of light," continued Dettman.

As of Thursday, police were still investigating and had not yet arrested a suspect.

Brawls break out between parents and leftists over Glendale school board's resolution to once again 'engage students' in LGBT activism

A massive brawl broke out Tuesday between parents and radical leftists in Glendale, California, amid a school board meeting concerning a resolution to once again incorporate seasonal LGBT propaganda into the curriculum.

Several hundred protesters gathered outside the locked-down Glendale Unified School District Headquarters, divided on the matter of Resolution No. 27, "Proclaiming June 2023 as LGBTQ+ Pride," advanced by GUSD superintendent Vivian Vekchian.

American flags were seen amongst parents and community members opposed to the imposition of LGBT propaganda on children. Some protesters wore shirts emblazoned with the caption, "Leave our kids alone."

Pride flags were waved by various supporters of Resolution No. 27, who periodically chanted "Racists, sexists, anti-gay. Christian fascists go away," reported the Daily Mail.

Around 50 police officers attempted to maintain the peace.

The Glendale Police Department indicated that while "most of the protest was peaceful, a small group of individuals engaged in behavior deemed unsafe and a risk to public safety."

KTLA-TV reported that in an effort to de-escalate the situation, police attempted placing a barricade between the two groups, but this proved ineffective.

The protest allegedly "exceeded the bounds of peaceful assembly," prompting police to issue a dispersal order just after 6:00 p.m. then declare the remaining throng an unlawful assembly.

As the result of the ensuing fisticuffs, police arrested at least three people. Charges included unlawful use of pepper spray and willfully obstructing officers in the course of their duties.

The resolution at issue states, "It is imperative that students in our community, regardless of sexual orientation gender, gender identity or gender expression, feel welcomed, valued, safe, empowered, and supported by their peers and school community. ... By recognizing Pride Month, we reaffirm our commitment to support policies, practices, and curricula that honor and respect LGBTQ+ students, employees, family members, and all people in our community."

"Be it resolved that the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education designates June 2023 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month and urges everyone to recognize the contributions made by members of the LGBTQ+ community and to actively promote the principles of equality, liberty, and justice," it said.

Extra to urging recognition of past activism, the resolution would have the "Superintendent and all District staff ... support lessons and activities that engage students in meaningful learning about the accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ community."

Any Torosyan, a Glendale parent, told KTLA, "Bringing in curriculum for K-6 on gender ideology, that is what we’re against," suggesting money would be better spent improving students' test scores.
Philip George, an opponent of the LGBT propaganda, said, "We were talking about children. ... They are not ready for such choices. It confuses them and ultimately these are things that parents should decide."

According to the GUSD, "Parents/guardians may not opt their child out of any lesson referencing LGBTQ+ individuals and history."

Financial Post journalist Rupa Subramanya suggested, "People have had enough of this ideology being pushed down their throat 24/7. This is only going to get worse."

The anti-indoctrination group GUSD Parents Voices stated, "Proud of our parents who stood our ground. We will never allow indoctrination of our children"

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) condemned the protest, tweeting, "These continued acts of violence and hate towards our LGBTQ community - especially towards students, parents, and teachers – are horrific."

The protest outside the GUSD headquarters is just one of numerous parent uprisings against indoctrination in recent days.

TheBlaze previously reported that parents opposed to a planned LGBT rally at a North Hollywood elementary school battled Friday with left-wing supporters.

Parents held up signs saying, "STOP GROOMING OUR KIDS" and wore shirts reading, "Leave our kids alone" in black and white at the protest.

Christian and Muslim parents similarly rose up in protest against the Montgomery County School Board on Tuesday for forcing LGBT propaganda on their kids, which they were previously told they could opt out of.

WTTG reported that Montgomery County approved a list of LGBT activist books for children, starting as young as pre-kindergarten. The policy parents raged about, already in effect in Glendale, prevents them from opting their kids out of these readings.

Here is how some of the GUSD meeting went down:
