Despite conservative opposition, 101 House Republicans help pass swampy, earmark-laden government appropriations package

Despite a push by conservatives to stand against a swampy, earmark-laden government appropriations package, a whopping 101 House Republicans joined with 185 Democrats to vote in favor of passage, sending the package to the Senate. On the other side of the vote, 112 House Republicans and 22 Democrats voted against the package.

Approving the package before an impending funding lapse would avert the possibility of a partial governement shutdown.

Conservatives decried the passage of the package.

"The House just passed the Swamp's omnibus. As expected, this monstrosity passed with MORE DEMOCRAT votes than Republican votes. GOP leadership couldn’t even get a majority of Republicans to support this garbage. But for those who did: You now own everything you just funded," GOP Rep. Andrew Clyde of of Georgia, who voted against the package, declared in a tweet.

"Congress holds the power of the purse, but the Swamp has yet again forfeited that power and abdicated our leverage to combat Biden's disastrous policies. Americans deserve better. Woe betide the Members who vote for this atrocious bill," Republican Rep. Dan Bishop of North Carolina declared in a statement.

Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona tweeted, "More Republicans voted against the DC Cartel's minibus than voted for it. 112-101. The Uniparty has once again sold Americans out."

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia filed a motion to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from the speakership. "The current Speaker has shown he cannot stand up to the Democrats. I filed a Motion to Vacate because it's time the American people have leadership in Congress that will fight for their values and stop funding the left's agenda," a tweet on her @RepMTG X account reads.

Rep. MTG Files Motion To Remove Mike Johnson As Speaker Of The House

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene filed a motion Friday morning for Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to vacate the chair. Greene called on Johnson to not bring the $1.2 trillion spending bill to the floor for a vote and called it “a Chuck Schumer, Democrat-controlled bill coming from the ‘Republican-controlled’ House.” She would […]

Chip Roy urges GOP colleagues to refuse to fund much of federal government unless border crisis is addressed

Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas is calling for House GOP colleagues to band together and refuse to fund much of the federal government until action is taken to address the nation's border crisis.

"I am obliged to inform you of my duty to refuse to fund – or otherwise empower – the United States Government, or any foreign government it is supporting, unless and until it fulfills its constitutional obligation to defend our borders from invasion, as required in our republican form of government, and make the people of Texas whole for its breach of duty," he declared in the letter. He wrote that "we must make funding for federal government operations contingent on the President signing H.R.2, or its functional equivalent, into law and stopping the flow across our border (with demonstrable near-zero results)."

Roy suggested approving funding in some key areas, such as for Border Patrol agents, while starving much of the money-hungry federal leviathan in a leverage play to force action on the border issue.

"To be certain, use of our constitutional authority to withhold funds to force adherence to the law comes with cries of 'government shutdown' and concerns we will fail to sustain key priorities such as funding for troops and Border Patrol agents themselves," Roy noted. "These claims can be dismissed if we pass legislation to fund those very basic responsibilities – including ensuring Border Patrol agents receive full salary, benefits, and overtime pay – while withholding funding for the vast majority of the federal government until it performs its basic duty to defend the borders of a supposedly sovereign nation."

"The threat to citizens we represent and the Republic we take an oath to defend is real – marked notably by the release of dangerous terrorists and criminals into our communities. All members of Congress should be on notice: they own it if they fund it. We must finally use our Article One constitutional authority to force the (Article Two) President to end his abuse of power that endangers Americans with open borders," Roy declared.

Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah, who retweeted Roy's letter, is apparently of the same mind.

"I will not vote to fund the government until our border is secure. Please share and like if you agree. And then ask your senators and representatives to make the same commitment," Lee tweeted.

Conservatives Beat Back Democrats’ Misleading Money Grab In Colorado

Colorado’s experience with tax-increasing Prop HH shows that conservatives can win on ballot measures if they work together.

'When will the aid requests end?' Rand Paul says he won't consent to expedited passage of any spending measure that includes more Ukraine assistance

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has declared that he will not consent to the expedited passage of any spending measure that supplies more U.S. aid to the nation of Ukraine.

During a Senate floor speech, Paul said that America does not have a rainy day fund that can be tapped to assist Ukraine, but that money for Ukraine would be borrowed, which would cause inflation. Paul pointed out that there are many issues that the U.S. needs to fix at home before borrowing money in a bid to perpetuate a war in another nation.

While the U.S. has already shoveled billions of dollars toward assisting Ukraine as that Eastern European country battles against a Russian invasion, President Joe Biden and many lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle want to approve even more aid.

"When will the aid requests end? When will the war end? Can someone explain what victory in Ukraine looks like?" Paul asked. "With no clear end in sight, it looks increasingly like Ukraine will be yet another endless quagmire funded by the American taxpayer."

Paul expressed staunch opposition to the idea of tying Ukraine aid together with funding to avoid a U.S. government shutdown. "I will not give consent to a bill that includes funding for Ukraine in keeping our government open," he said.

"The longer this conflict continues, the greater the risk that miscalculation or purposeful escalation draws the United States in to direct conflict with Russia," Paul said. "Every day this war continues is another spin of the roulette wheel with another chance of it stopping on Armageddon. And we are paying for the privilege."
