Horowitz: Tennessee House leaders send letter to Gov. Lee requesting he suspend COVID baby shots

Well, it looks like Florida won’t be alone in standing for the Nuremberg Code on human experimentation, at least if the Tennessee House leadership have their say.

It was widely reported last week that every state other than Florida purchased millions of doses of baby and toddler shots from the federal government – both Pfizer and Moderna – and immediately began injecting them into crying babies. While Florida was the only state to recommend against the shots, America is the only country to recommend for them. Even Israel, which was Pfizer’s laboratory, has not pursued vaccination of those under 5. So where are the other 20 or so red states?

On Tuesday, Tennessee state Rep. Jason Zachary of Knoxville penned a letter to Governor Bill Lee asking him to essentially follow the example of Florida’s health department and recommend against the shots. “We ask that you direct the Tennessee Department of Health to halt distribution, promotion or recommendation of COVID-19 vaccines for our youngest Tennesseans,” read the letter, which was signed by House speaker Cameron Sexton, majority leader William Lamberth, and caucus chairman Jeremy Faison.

The letter expressed the concerns raised by many experts who have examined the clinical trials – that both Pfizer and Moderna failed to demonstrate the most basic positive safety and efficacy signals one would expect from an FDA-approved product based on a clinical trial. “We simply cannot recommend injecting an mRNA vaccine into children who have never been at serious risk from death or hospitalization from COVID-19. We do not know the short-term and long-term impact on their development and overall health.”

The letter raises several of the many concerns that have come to light from reviewing the clinical trials.

  • Why did two-thirds of the 4,526 children recruited by the FDA not complete the trial? Was their data thrown out to fit a predetermined conclusion?
  • Why was the trial not able to show a reduction in severe illness among those vaccinated?
  • The FDA’s own risk-benefit assessment showed a 30% increased chance of contracting COVID-19 in children vaccinated after the first dose, compared to those in the placebo group. Why was this overlooked?
  • Why was approval granted when the manufacturer’s own trials show zero benefit to children?
  • Why was authorization granted by the FDA when there is no data related to the long-term impact of the mRNA vaccine on children who are not at risk of serious illness or death, unless they are significantly immuno-compromised?

It is truly shocking that this has not been a bigger story and how few Republicans have even spoken out about this flagrant violation of the Nuremberg Code of ethics for the medical profession. It’s not just the fact that children should never be getting this shot because the risk-benefit matrix was always the most unfavorable to them; it’s that since any other cohort has been approved, so much more information about the shots has come to light.

For example, just this week, Dr. Peter Doshi, editor of the prestigious British Medical Journal, posted a preprint study showing that one is more likely to be hospitalized from adverse events from both Pfizer and Moderna’s shots than to benefit from reduced COVID hospitalizations. Specifically, Dr. Doshi and his colleagues found that the Pfizer shot was associated with an increased risk of serious “adverse events of special interest” of 10.1 events per 10,000 vaccinated for Pfizer and 15.1 per 10,000 for Moderna.

So, what is the supposed benefit? The risk reduction, which was 2.3 per 10,000 participants for Pfizer and 6.4 per 10,000 for Moderna, is much less than the increased risk from adverse events. This means that there is a net increase in serious adverse events of 7.8 per 10,000 vaccinated with Pfizer and and 8.7 per 10,000 vaccinated with Moderna over the supposed benefit against COVID hospitalizations.

“The excess risk of serious adverse events found in our study points to the need for formal harm-benefit analyses, particularly those that are stratified according to risk of serious COVID-19 outcomes such as hospitalization or death,” conclude the authors, including researchers from UCLA and Stanford.

This is for adults! You can imagine the negative cost-benefit analysis for young children, especially the majority of them who already had the virus. Also, this analysis was for the original trials, before the virus changed dramatically, when there was possibly some degree of efficacy. That has all changed with endless new variants.

Which brings us back to red-state governors and legislators. How can they call themselves pro-life and simultaneously allow an injection that they know will do more harm than good?

Horowitz: Tennessee governor opposes bill making murderers serve full sentences

One of the most remarkable dynamics in American politics is that the majority of Republican governors are more pro-criminal than most average Democrat voters and even some local Democrat politicians. You see, at some point, crime could get bad enough that even Democrat voters will beg for help. But GOP elites, controlled by the Koch-funded NGOs and big business interests, are so myopic in their thinking and divorced from reality that they continue to push the “spirit of the age” policies supported by the corporate elites until the gates of hell.

Imagine being a governor of a deep red state like Tennessee during a time when radical leftists are promoting anarchy and de-incarceration, fueling the worst crime wave in a generation. Then, your own legislature passes a truth-in-sentencing bill, HB2656 / SB2248, to ensure that those found guilty of crimes like murder, robbery, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, or carjacking serve their full sentence. The vote is 20-6 in the Senate and House 86-9 in the House, with numerous inner-city Democrats joining every single Republican in support. The Democrat mayor from the biggest city in the state, which is plagued by growing violence, supports the bill, along with other sheriffs and local law enforcement.

Well, that is the gift package that was placed on Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s desk. Yet rather than taking yes for an answer and unwrapping it, he announced his public opposition to the bill. It will nonetheless become law, because he is merely declining to sign it but will not veto it. However, it is quite evident that had the bill passed without super-majorities, he would have vetoed it. That is a mere glimpse into the heart and mind of nearly every GOP governor aside from Governor Ron DeSantis. Some just do a better job hiding their leftist views than others.

In what can only be described as the transgender equivalent of crime policy logic, Gov. Lee stated in his letter to the Senate and House leaders that he believes the more you lock up violent criminals, the more crime there is; the less you lock them up, the more crime goes down.

His views perfectly capture the spirit of the age of the far left, where everything, including basic biology, morality, and common sense, is perfectly inverted.

For years, Republicans supported the Soros de-incarceration agenda by propagating the lie that the prisons are full of “first-time, nonviolent, low-level offenders” and that these compassionate politicians were merely pursuing leniencies for those people. As we all understood at the time, the prison population mainly consists of career criminals with long raps sheets, many of whom often plead down from even worse crimes. Thus, if your goal was to lower the prison population at all costs (rather than fighting crime), then you would inevitably have to release violent criminals. Well, now Bill Lee is revealing the extent of the criminal justice reform fraud by opposing a bill exclusively targeting the most dangerous criminals without even expanding their sentences.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, we began locking up more criminals. Crime plummeted, and eventually homicide dropped by 70%, saving tens of thousands of people, particularly black victims of gang murder. Since we reversed that trend of incarceration, we have reversed the trend of reduced crime. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the combined state and federal prison incarceration rate has shrunk by 28% since 2010. The percentage of the American population in the U.S corrections system (combined federal and state) is lower than at any time since 1992. And those numbers have precipitously dropped due to COVID, perfectly coinciding with a massive crime wave.

There is no question that the plummeting incarcerated population has a lot to do with the massive crime wave. The drop in incarceration was particularly steep among those sentenced for serious crimes. The number of persons sentenced to more than one year in state or federal prison decreased from 1,379,800 in 2019 to 1,182,200 in 2020. State and federal correctional authorities held 352 persons age 17 or younger at year’s end in 2020, a 46% decline from 2019. There is your juvenile crime wave right there. It defies logic to suggest that the unprecedented reduction in the prison population did not contribute to the unparalleled annual increase in homicide in 2020 and 2021.

Just as in other states, the incarcerated population, according to BJS, dropped by 14% from 2019 to 2020 during the COVID. The COVID jailbreak was the perfect case study in the “science” of de-incarceration, and it failed spectacularly. It’s hard to suggest that the record increase in homicides and carjackings in 2020 and 2021 – and still coasting in 2022 – is not the result of the criminals being on the streets instead of behind bars.

Why is it that elites in both parties are exclusively focused on criminal justice and not victim justice? Clearly, criminals are not being deterred, and if you can’t support something as simple as this bill exclusively targeting the most violent criminals, that reflects a pro-criminal sensibility. The governor’s own Task Force on Sentencing and Recidivism recommended a truth-in-sentencing bill.

Bill Lee was a signatory to that report.

As for his contention that prisons cost too much money, it’s like saying that waiting to make a left turn at a busy intersection costs too much time. Some things must be done. We increase construction of infrastructure and funding for every service with the growth of the population. Yet anti-incarceration advocates artfully cut funding for incarceration so that they can present the public with a false choice of overcrowding or jailbreak.

A recent Fox News poll asked respondents which policy they thought would decrease gun violent more – “tighter restrictions on people buying guns” or “tougher penalties for people who commit crimes with guns.” By a margin of 54%-33%, respondents chose tougher penalties. And this is something of a different question, because it’s specifically targeting gun violence and offering intuitive gun control as an option. The number of people who, at a minimum, support tougher penalties on violent criminals regardless of their views on guns is undoubtedly much higher.

Until the crime wave hits the neighborhoods of those running government, big business, and culture, the attitude of most governors will reflect that selfish myopia.

Tennessee governor signs transgender athlete bill into law to 'ensure fair competition'

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee (R) signed into law a bill requiring student athletes to prove their sex at birth in order to participate in middle and high school sports. The new law that was signed on Friday will prohibit transgender athletes who were born as male to compete against biological females and vice-versa.

"I signed the bill to preserve women's athletics and ensure fair competition," Lee wrote on Twitter. "This legislation responds to damaging federal policies that stand in opposition to the years of progress made under Title IX and I commend members of the General Assembly for their bipartisan work."

Last month, the Republican governor of Tennessee said, "I do believe that transgenders participating in women's sports will destroy women's sports. It will ruin the opportunity for girls to earn scholarships. It will put a glass ceiling back over women that hasn't been there in some time. I think it's bad for women and for women's sports."

"This discriminatory policy is illegal," Sam Brinton of The Trevor Project, a national group providing transgender youths with crisis prevention services, told the Tennessean. "The Trevor Project is here 24/7 to support trans youth in Tennessee and across the country who feel hurt and invalidated by these purely political attacks."

Tennessee becomes the third state to enact transgender athlete legislation this month; previously Mississippi and Arkansas passed such laws.

"I signed the law as a fan of women's sports from basketball to soccer and including many others in which women compete successfully," Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) said in a statement on Thursday. "This law simply says that female athletes should not have to compete in a sport against a student of the male sex when the sport is designed for women's competition."

"I will sign our bill to protect young girls from being forced to compete with biological males for athletic opportunities," Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) wrote on Twitter. "It's crazy we have to address it, but the Biden E.O. forced the issue. Adults? That's on them. But the push for kids to adopt transgenderism is just wrong."

Similar bills are advancing in at least 21 states this year, according to the Tennessean.

The laws are a response to President Joe Biden's executive order he signed on his first day in the White House that reinstated Obama-era Title IX regulations ensuring that transgender students "receive equal treatment under the law, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation."

"The order mandates that all students, including transgender students, be able to learn without facing sex discrimination, and as part of that, transgender women should compete on female teams," USA Today reported.
