'Weekend at Biden's'? Sleepy Joe ready for his Hollywood close-up
He’s ready for his close-up!
Departing President Joe Biden spent four years hiding his still-unidentified cognitive decline. He had plenty of help, from duplicitous journalists to an inner circle insisting he was “sharp as a tack.”
Stars like Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Alicia Keys, and host Trevor Noah reminded us they voted for the candidate who couldn’t handle a three-hour Joe Rogan chat.
You’d think the former president would spend his remaining days with friends and loved ones. Turns out he’s got one last trick up his sleeve.
Biden just signed with Creative Artists Agency, one of Hollywood’s premiere talent agencies. Biden could be thinking book deals and speaking engagements. Maybe he’ll drop by “Squid Games” or one of Taylor Sheridan’s many TV dramas.
Or, he might fulfill the dreams of countless social media denizens. That “Weekend at Bernie’s” reboot isn’t going to cast itself ...
'Kiss' off
Jenny from the Block’s 2025 is looking a lot like her 2024.
Jennifer Lopez’s marriage to Ben Affleck (pour one out for Bennifer) ended last year, and she had to suspend her concert tour due to slow ticket sales.
Now, her starring role in a “Kiss of the Spider Woman” movie musical is drawing blank stares on the Hollywood circuit. The film debuted to tepid reviews at the just-wrapped Sundance Film Festival, and no one is lining up to acquire the film for a 2025 release.
That J-Lo magic may be in decline. Or, Hollywood still isn’t sure what to do with movie musicals. “Wicked” Hoovered up all the money last year, while “Joker: Folie a Deux” proved a supersized dud. And the Netflix musical “Emilia Perez” went from surefire Oscar contender to a title Netflix suits hope will go away.
Maybe lyrics like, “Man to woman or woman to man? Man to woman, from penis to vagina,” just aren’t music to many people’s ears ...
Off-key
Was it something they said?
Ratings for Sunday’s Grammy Awards cratered 9% from its 2024 addition. The annual gala draws plenty of eyeballs, putting the spotlight on clever collaborations, covers, and other goodies for music fans.
This year, the focus shifted to, what else, the Resistance 2.0. And some viewers said, “Thanks, but no thanks.”
Stars like Chappell Roan, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Alicia Keys, and host Trevor Noah reminded us they voted for the candidate who couldn’t handle a three-hour Joe Rogan chat.
The ratings reflected that hard truth.
Awards show producers know lecture-filled shows yield smaller audiences. The stars keep spouting off all the same.
In recent years, the awards show scene has dialed back on the politics. Even the Jimmy Kimmel-led Oscars did just that, despite the host’s hard-left politics.
Sunday’s Grammys showcase was a return to, in the grand “Young Frankenstein” tradition, Abby Normal ...
Full Stiller
Never go full Ben Stiller.
The actor/director is a whiz on both sides of the camera. If you haven’t seen his director gem, the miniseries “Escape at Dannemora,” you should. His latest project, Apple TV’s “Severance,” is a critical and commercial darling.
He’s less adept, sadly, at political activism. Remember his cringeworthy quotes as part of the White Dudes for Harris campaign?
“[Kamala Harris is] also a historic candidate. ... It’s going to be the first woman president, and that’s incredibly exciting. She’s Indian, she’s black, she’s everything. You can be more than one thing, it’s incredible.”
Now, Stiller is pushing the obvious lie that X mogul Elon Musk gave a Nazi salute at President Donald Trump's inaugural festivities. He told far-left podcaster Kara Swisher that he’s no fan of the Tesla founder.
“I know he really likes 'Tropic Thunder.' Great. Good for him. But after the Nazi salute — the double Nazi salute — I’m just not into it. Never was into it.”
This week, Musk appeared alongside Presidents Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.
Worst. Nazi. Ever ...
Bullet time
Filmmakers can’t stop making stories about lovable, wacky, misunderstood hit men. Think “Bullet Train,” “The Hitman’s Bodyguard,” and its sequel, “Hit Man,” with Glen Powell. “John Wick.” “Asher.” “Polar.” “Anna.” “Kate.”
That’s a partial list. And it’s about to get longer.
Next up? “Old Guy” with Christoph Waltz. The two-time Oscar winner plays an aging hit man training a new kid on the killing block. Awww.
“The Hit Man’s Bodyguard” alum Samuel L. Jackson is back on the beat. His untitled hit man thriller finds him working alongside his nephew (Daveed Diggs), but if things go south, he might have to eliminate him.
The same industry that lectures us about, well, everything, has no moral qualms making us root for paid assassins.

Grammy Awards feature satanic-looking 'Unholy' performance, 'unrecognizable' Madonna
The 65th annual Grammy Awards held in Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday featured Satan, cages, dominatrices, whips, fire, and an "unrecognizable" Madonna.
"It's a take on not being able to choose religion. And not being able to live the way that people might want you to live," performer Kim Petras, a German-born, transgender woman (i.e., a biological man), said of the "Unholy" performance, Variety reported.
"I think a lot of people, honestly, have kind of labeled what I stand for and what Sam [Smith] stands for as religiously not cool, and I personally grew up wondering about religion and wanting to be a part of it but slowly realizing it didn’t want me to be a part of it," Petras also said.

"Sam [Smith] graciously wanted me to accept this award, because I'm the first transgender woman to win this award," the performer said in an acceptance speech, to a standing ovation from the crowd.

"Saturday Night Live" hosted a performance of the song "Unholy" two weeks ago. Sam Smith
performed in an enormous, hot pink, fluffy tulle gown. Petras was revealed to be sitting under the voluminous skirt as the gown was flipped open.
Billy Hallowell, who penned "Playing with Fire: A Modern Investigation into Demons, Exorcism, and Ghosts," described the "Unholy" performance at the Grammy Awards as "heartbreaking." He encouraged viewers to pray for "people who mock God, flaunt that mockery, and [are] then praised for it."
"Unholy's" lyrics address themes of marital infidelity and betrayal.
\u201cThe "Unholy" performance wasn't really outrageous or innovative; it was just sad. It's really heartbreaking to watch people mock God, flaunt that mockery, and then be praised for it. This should break our hearts and send us into prayer for these people. Truly.\u201d— Billy Hallowell (@Billy Hallowell) 1675680114
Page Six described Madonna as "unrecognizable." The "Like a Virgin" and "Material Girl" pop legend presented ahead of Smith's and Petras' "Unholy" performance.
Though she wore her signature fishnet gloves, some viewers were shocked by Madonna's near-unrecognizable face.
"Her lips appeared plumped and pouty and her skin was smooth and without wrinkles," according to the Mirror's gracious description of 64-year-old Madonna.
Others were more blunt.
"I'm all for cosmetic surgery but @Madonna should have left her face alone after her last lift," said actor Damon Gonzalez.
"The mother of reinvention needs an intervention. And yes, I'll be paying 1,300 to see her at MSG this summer," Gonzalez added.

"Madonna can't see it. It's filter fatigue. People get so used to their face they no longer see it's different, so they continue to get more," said writer and director Jay Arnold.

Kanye West asked not to perform at the Grammys due to 'concerning online behavior'
Iconic rapper Kanye West has been barred from performing at the Grammy Awards.
The Recording Academy and CBS, the groups who present the Grammys, contacted Kanye's team and informed them that the rapped had been "unfortunately" removed from the lineup of performers for the 2022 Grammys due to his "concerning online behavior," Variety reported.
A report from The Blast, a celebrity gossip blog created by one of the co-founders of TMZ, claimed that the "Donda" rapper's team received a phone call informing them that Kanye had been axed from the show. And, Variety suggests, there may be good reason for booting Kanye's live performance.
In recent weeks, Kanye has been very publicly feuding with his ex-wife's, Kim Kardashian, new boyfriend, "Saturday Night Live" comedian Pete Davidson.
West, who mockingly refers to Davidson as "Skete," launched an intense intimidation campaign against the comedian in a series of now-deleted Instagram posts.
"Ran Skete off the gram," West boasted in late February, "Tell your mother I change your name for life."
In a recently released music video for the song "Eazy," in which Kanye collaborates with fellow rapper The Game, a claymation Kanye kidnaps, tortures, and murders a similarly animated avatar of Davidson.
The song also features the lyrics: "God saved me from that crash / Just so I can beat Pete Davidson's ass."

Reportedly, it is a concern that Kanye might ruffle the feathers of the cultural elite in a live performance at the Grammys. The show's hosts are worried he might renew his anti-Davidson crusade, make a statement of support for his friends who have fallen out of public favor like controversial artist Marilyn Manson or fellow rapper DaBaby, or perhaps even make potentially right-wing political statements.
There is also concern stemming from past disagreements Kanye had with the host of this year's awards, "Daily Show" host Trevor Noah.
The Game, Kanye's collaborator on "Eazy," said that the removal of Kanye from the live show proves that the institution is biased against "the culture."
He said, "Time [and] time again they show us that they only want to STEAL the culture, not allow you to ever be their equals. In a more than obvious move for reasons of miniscule actions … The Grammys have at the last minute decided to pull [Kanye West] from performing on the show as if we dind't know it was coming. [It] could be because [Trevor Noah] is hosting and there was a conversation held amongst his team [and] the academy that led to the decision."
Despite not being invited to perform at the Grammy's live show, The Root reported that Kanye's most recent album "Donda" is nominated for five Grammy awards.
