Elon Musk to visit southern border ‘later this week’ to see ‘severe’ migrant crisis for himself

Elon Musk announced on X, formerly Twitter, that he has plans to visit the southern border “later this week” to see the migrant crisis for himself.

After speaking with Republican Representative Tony Gonzales and confirming the record number of illegal crossings happening at the border, Musk said he will go to Eagle Pass, Texas, this week.

“I spoke with Rep Tony Gonzales tonight – he confirmed that it is a serious issue,” Musk wrote Monday. “They are being overwhelmed by unprecedented numbers – just hit an all-time high and still growing! Am going to visit Eagle Pass later this week to see what’s going on for myself.”

On Monday, Gonzales was joined at the border by several Republican lawmakers, including Representatives Jodey Arrington, August Pfluger, Ronny Jackson, Nathaniel Moran, and Brandon Williams. Gonzales’ office reported that there are currently 5,000 migrants in a Border Patrol holding facility that is meant to hold 1,000.

“Now more than ever, Congress needs to pass a strong budget that puts a stop to Biden’s open-borders agenda,” Gonzales said. “This should not be a partisan issue. My message is clear – end catch and release, stop using asylum as a hall pass, and put our Border Patrol Agents back on the frontlines.”

According to Gonzales, tens of thousands of migrants are still heading toward the United States.

“Processing capacity is at four times its max and local resources are being depleted,” he said Friday.

Fox News recently shared a video showing hundreds of migrants, mostly adult males, on top of trains headed toward the border in Eagle Pass.

Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas, Jr. issued an emergency declaration last week “due to the severe undocumented immigrant surge” overwhelming the city’s resources.

Musk torched President Biden for joining the United Auto Workers’ picket line in Michigan but failing to address the border crisis.

“Maybe he could also pop over to see our southern border at some point,” Musk remarked.

In another post on X, he said, “This is a severe crisis.”

Last week, Musk called out the “legacy media” for its lack of coverage.

“About 2 million people – from every country on Earth – are entering through the US southern border every year,” he said. “The number is rising rapidly, yet no preventive action is taken by the current administration.”

The Biden administration announced that it plans to send 800 military members to the southern border to help Border Patrol agents process migrants. The troops will not be aiding in law enforcement efforts to curb the crisis.

Texas Gov. Abbott sends 2 buses of illegal immigrants to Kamala Harris' Naval Observatory home in DC, days after VP promised 'the border is secure'

Two buses full of illegal immigrants were dropped off outside Vice President Kamala Harris' home at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., on Thursday morning.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott bused approximately 100 migrants to the outside of the official residence of the vice president, Fox News reported. The migrants, who were picked up in the Texas border town of Eagle Pass, were originally from Venezuela, Uruguay, Colombia, and Mexico.

Wilder Alberto Pinto Sosa, a migrant who traveled from Venezuela with his 1-year-old son, told DC News Now reporter Lex Juarez that he has been treated with dignity and respect since arriving in the United States. He said his experience in the U.S. has been "much better than any other country I’ve passed through."

Juarez reported, "The group is heading to a local church to be fed and connected to resources to help them get to their final destinations."

An illegal immigrant outside Harris' home at the Naval Observatory reported told Fox News national correspondent Griff Jenkins that he believes the U.S. southern border is "open."

"The border is open. Everybody believes that the border is open," a Venezuelan man told Fox News. "It's open because we enter. We come in, free, no problem."

When asked how the migrants came into the U.S., he added, "We came illegally.”

On Sunday, Harris proclaimed that the U.S.-Mexico border is "secure."

"The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular, over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed," Harris told "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd.

Todd questioned Harris about the record-high 2 million migrant encounters that have already occurred this fiscal year.

Harris – President Joe Biden's border czar – reiterated, "We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration."'

She again blamed the Trump administration for the border crisis: "But there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix given the deterioration that happened over the last four years."

Harris added, "We also have to put into place a law and a plan for a pathway for citizenship for the millions of people who are here and are prepared to do what is legally required to gain citizenship."

Harris accused Abbott and other Republicans of "playing politics" with the issue of immigration.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser had no idea that the buses were coming, according to her office.

Previously, Bowser responded to migrants who were shipped from Texas to Washington, D.C., by declaring a state of emergency last week and launching a $10 million Office of Migrant Services. Last month, the Democratic mayor requested that the D.C. National Guard be activated to tackle the influx of illegal aliens, but was denied by the Pentagon.

Since April, Texas has sent approximately 10,000 migrants to Washington, D.C. Texas has sent migrants to other self-declared sanctuary cities, such as Chicago and New York City.

On Wednesday, Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent two planes full of illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard.

WATCH: Texas National Guard finally shuts FLOODGATE for illegal migrants — then Biden's Border Patrol shows up

Drone video footage posted on social media by Fox News' Bill Melugin captured the moment Border Patrol agents arrive on the scene after the Texas National Guard closed and locked a gate at a "major crossing area" for illegal migrants on the Texas-Mexico border.

"For the first time, we witnessed the TX National Guard close & lock a gate on private property at a major crossing area in Eagle Pass, denying entry to migrants who just crossed illegally & expected to be let in. Border Patrol then came w/ a key & let them in for processing," Melugin captioned the first of three videos.

Then the Border Patrol arrived, unlocked the gate, and held it open to let the group of illegal migrants in "for processing."

“This was the moment Border Patrol arrived with the key and let the migrants in. The landowner allows both TX DPS/National Guard and Border Patrol to work here. The gate has always been left open in the past. TX is now closing it, & migrants have to wait for BP to be let in.”
— Bill Melugin (@Bill Melugin) 1660758167

Melugin said Border Patrol agents opening gates for illegal immigrants is nothing new.

"What’s new is TX is now closing the gate & denying entry at this major crossing location. Always open in months past, including this video I shot in May," he wrote.

“Border Patrol opening gates etc to allow migrants in is not new. They have to process migrants on U.S. soil per federal law. What’s new is TX is now closing the gate & denying entry at this major crossing location. Always open in months past, including this video I shot in May.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) accused "Biden’s open border policies" of causing "this crisis."

“Unbelievable.

While Texas secures the border, the federal government is enabling illegal immigration.

Biden’s open border policies caused this crisis.

The federal government must do its job & fix it.”

Abbott has been bussing migrants to Democrat-run "sanctuary cities." New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) and Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) have accused the Texas governor of "cruel political gamesmanship" and "hateful politics," while complaining that their cities are being overrun with thousands of migrants. Meanwhile, sources say more than 2 million “migrant encounters” have been recorded so far this year, up from the previous record of 1,277,177 this time last year.

“BREAKING: CBP sources say migrant encounters this FY22 so far surpassed 2,001,034 - a NEW RECORD set this past weekend and a milestone never before seen in history - this compared to last year's record setting numbers which were 1,277,177 at this point in FY21 @CBP @FoxNews”

On "The News & Why It Matters," BlazeTV host Sara Gonzales and guests discussed the eye-opening video footage and ask, "will the Biden administration ever admit this is an 'open border'?"
