8-year-old bit into Halloween candy with a needle pushed inside, according to Massachusetts mom

A mother in Sandwich, Massachusetts, said that her 8-year-old bit a sewing needle that had been pushed into his Halloween candy, and she found one other piece of candy with a second needle.

The family spoke to WCVB-TV but asked to remain anonymous.

"My wife called and said that he had bit into a Twix bar and noticed there was something hard, and ended up finding it was a needle," said the father of the boy. "Came downstairs and told my wife, 'What the heck is this? I found this in my candy!' and so he threw the candy out."

The mother contacted the police after inspecting the other candy and finding a second needle.

"The wrapper had a puncture hole and a sewing needle was found inside the candy bar," police said in a Facebook post about the incident.

The family told police that they had gone trick-or-treating on the Main Street area of Sandwich.

"This is a potential major injury and potentially life-threatening to a little kid," said the child's father to WCVB-TV. "Think about others and don't be so malicious."

The report from WCVB showed photographs of the needles that were reportedly found in the candies.

"The police department is recommending that all trick-or-treat candy should be inspected," the police added in their post. "If your child was trick or treating in the downtown area of Sandwich, please be extra vigilant in checking your children’s candy."

Sandwich is a town of about 20,000 people in Cape Cod.

In a separate incident, the West Boylston Police Department reported that at least two children had received candy that was infused with alcohol. The candy was chocolate with Jose Cuervo tequila inside, but was also labeled.

Woman pulls loaded gun on 7-year-old trick-or-treater: Police

Authorities arrested a Texas woman after she allegedly pointed a loaded gun at a 7-year-old trick-or-treater on Halloween, KTBC-TV reported.

What are the details?

Deputies arrived at the home of Buda, Texas, resident Monica Ann Bradford after she reportedly pointed a loaded gun at an unnamed child who was walking in front of her property.

Witnesses said they saw Bradford yelling at and threatening adolescent passersby during the neighborhood trick-or-treating festivities before she grabbed her gun and pointed it at a child.

Neighbor Connie Medina said that she was shocked to learn of the unfolding situation — especially considering Bradford's front porch light was on, an apparent indicator that she was accepting trick-or-treaters.

"I was in shock," Medina said. "It's Halloween; there are kids everywhere — how can somebody just come out with a weapon and scare these kids?"

Another neighbor added, "There were cops at the end of our street. They stopped us and said nobody's allowed to go down this street, there's an incident with a gun involved."

The neighbor added that some responding officers had guns drawn, while other officials had their rifles at the ready.

Bradford was taken into custody without incident, according to the report, and no one was hurt as a result of the event.

Bradford, 35, was arrested and booked into the Hays County Jail following the incident.

She faces second-degree felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Her bond was set at $10,000, which she reportedly posted, the station noted.

Bradford is expected to appear in court at a later date.

Parents react

Medina added, "Little kid probably needs counseling. He or she is going to have to deal with that for years, no telling."

Another neighbor added that he is now concerned about allowing his children to go trick-or-treating at all.

"I'm about to the point where I don't even want the kids going anymore," neighbor Albert Anguiano admitted.
