VIDEO: Elderly Santa Monica councilman allegedly attacked by homeless man in broad daylight over littering

A city councilman was attacked by a homeless man after he made a simple request on the sunny streets of Santa Monica, California.

69-year-old Phil Brock released a full statement about the attack that unfolded on the Third Street Promenade in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon.

"The man was tearing fliers off of a boarded-up storefront, throwing them on the ground," Brock said.

"And I said, ‘Excuse me, sir, can you put that in our trash can right over there?’ And then he exploded with bad language," the councilman added.

Brock went on to say that the homeless man tried to steal his hat three times and splashed some liquid in his face. The man then allegedly shoved him three times after he called 911.

KTTV-TV obtained video showing the beginning of the altercation showing Brock talking to the man who appears angry and confrontational. A later scene in the video shows Brock holding the homeless man down as police officers come to assist him.

KTTV reported that the man was held on a mental evaluation and is facing a felony charge of robbery.

"There must be compassion towards our business owners and toward our residents," said Brock to KTTV. "I think this all interchanges. It can't be [that] we're just gonna help the people who are unhoused because I also have people who are hearing and feeling those disturbances at their apartments, at their houses, at their business in the city."

Brock told the Westside Current that he had been complimenting the promenade before the attack.

"The Promenade looks so much better these days," he remembered saying. "There were tons of happy shoppers out walking around the Promenade.”

HORRIFYING new video of San Francisco perfectly illustrates how progressive policies do NOT work

It's no secret that California's once-beautiful "City by the Bay" is now overrun with drug addiction, mental illness, and homelessness problems that have only gotten worse after decades of progressive Democratic leadership.

Michael Shellenberger, author of "San Fransicko: Why Progressives Ruin Cities" and lifelong Democrat, has been working to save his home city from ruin by shedding light on California's ever-worsening nightmare which progressive Democratic elected officials have not only failed to address but have actively enabled.

He recently took to Twitter to post an absolutely shocking thread of videos that show how bad things have really gotten in San Francisco and should be required viewing material for all voters ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

And, for a little reminder of how we got to this point:

““If we’re being honest, they pay you to be homeless here”

They also let you sell fentanyl to children —->”

Democrats say they are helping homeless people who suffer from mental illnesses and drug addictions with their progressive policies, but here's what the people they are supposedly "helping" have to say:

““Listen to the homeless”

Yes, let’s”

And here's what California's kids get to walk through on their way home from school:

“How do you get civilized people to dismantle their civilization?

Mostly by asking for an inch, and taking a mile.

Consider a few examples of how it’s been done.”
— Michael Shellenberger (@Michael Shellenberger) 1662731942

Preach, Shellenberger, preach!

“Point out the abuses in psychiatric hospitals.

Ask that they be replaced with community-based clinics.

Then, demand that they be shut down *before* you create the clinics.

After you have some clinics, make them optional.”
— Michael Shellenberger (@Michael Shellenberger) 1662731942
“Defend the “right” of people with schizophrenia to live out of grocery carts, sleep on the street, and become addicted to hard drugs.

When anyone questions whether that’s humane or safe, call them a fascist.”
— Michael Shellenberger (@Michael Shellenberger) 1662731942
“Point out the problems with police departments, jails, and prisons.

Ask that they be replaced with social workers, cashless bail, and voluntary drug treatment.

Then, demand that they be shut down *before* replacing them.”
— Michael Shellenberger (@Michael Shellenberger) 1662731942
“Deny and downplay rising crime as long as possible before excusing it as necessary to social justice.

When anyone questions whether such policies are fair or safe, call them a racist and fascist.”
— Michael Shellenberger (@Michael Shellenberger) 1662731942
“Point out the problems with homeless shelters.

Ask that they be replaced with free, unconditional housing.

Then, deprive the shelters of sufficient funding to operate safely and with sufficient beds.”
— Michael Shellenberger (@Michael Shellenberger) 1662731942
“After you have some shelters and housing, make them optional.

If anyone suggests it’s not safe to let the untreated mentally ill and drug addicts sleep outside, denounce them as a fascist and racist.

Repeat these steps with every institution needed for civilization to function.”
