15-year-old student allegedly bashes HS staffer in head with laptop; victim, 54, hospitalized, has trouble breathing

A 15-year-old student allegedly hit a high school staff member in the head with a laptop — and the victim, 54, was hospitalized and reportedly had trouble breathing.

The incident took place last Monday at Northwest High School in Germantown, Maryland, which is part of Montgomery County Schools, WTTG-TV reported.

'He'll probably get in-school detention followed by a transfer to another school.'

Principal Scott E. Smith confirmed the incident in a letter to families and staff, the station said, adding that emergency services were called to the scene, and the Montgomery County Police Department was investigating.

The staff member was taken to a hospital for treatment, district's spokesperson Liliana López told WTTG.

"We can confirm that a student struck and injured a staff member," López said in a statement, according to the station. "The staff member was transported to the hospital by emergency services."

Citing police radio transmissions, MoCo360 reported that the student allegedly hit the staff member in the head with a laptop.

The dispatcher said the staff member — a 54-year-old man — was conscious but having trouble breathing after the alleged assault, the outlet added.

MoCo360, citing radio transmissions, said the 15-year-old student in question was taken to the school’s office and was with the school’s security staff following the alleged incident.

“It is important to note that any student who chooses to commit an act of violence will be subject to progressive discipline in alignment with the MCPS Code of Conduct up to possible expulsion," Smith wrote in his letter, according to the outlet. "Police will determine whether criminal charges may apply."

How are observers reacting?

As you might expect, some observers on various Facebook posts from news sites weren't thrilled with the incident:

  • "He'll probably get in-school detention followed by a transfer to another school," one commenter wrote.
  • "Sue the parents," another commenter said.
  • "Oh, how awful," another commenter reacted. "I hope the teacher/staff member is okay, and that the student is removed from the school."

Motorist allegedly tries to run over trio standing on home's lawn after argument. Driver's downfall? One victim has a gun.

A motorist in Columbus, Ohio, earlier this month allegedly tried to run over three people who were standing on a home's lawn after an argument.

But one of driver's alleged targets was carrying a gun — and the victim's aim was true.

'Let this be a lesson. Don't bring a car to a gunfight.'

Police said 32-year-old Alexander Oglesby after an argument "used his vehicle as a weapon, driving it off the roadway in an attempt to strike the three victims" in the 1800 block of Noe Bixby Road around 2 a.m. Oct. 5.

Police added that "tire tracks at the scene show that Mr. Oglesby drove at the victims, who were approximately 40 yards away in the grass in front of their residence. One of the victims fired shots at Mr. Oglesby in self-defense and struck Mr. Oglesby. He was taken to an area hospital and treated for the injury."

Police said Oglesby was charged with three counts of felonious assault and taken to the Franklin County Jail. According to jail records, Oglesby on Tuesday was still incarcerated.

Police also said those with information about the incident are asked to contact Columbus Police Felony Assault Det. Reffitt #222 at 614-645-4323 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-TIPS (8477) — and that callers may remain anonymous.

How are observers reacting?

A handful of commenters underneath WCMH-TV's Facebook post about the incident completely backed up the person who pulled the trigger:

  • "Yeaaa, right, guns are the problem," one commenter noted sarcastically.
  • "Let this be a lesson," another user warned with tongue planted firmly in cheek. "Don't bring a car to a gunfight."
  • "The gun grabbers hate stories like this," another commenter declared.

Armed 17-year-old carjacker rolls the dice, promptly meets his match when victim pulls his own gun and opens fire

An armed 17-year-old is in "grave condition" after police said he pulled a gun on a man sitting in his vehicle early Tuesday morning in the Baltimore neighborhood of Canton, WBAL-TV reported.

The would-be carjacking victim and the teen exchanged gunfire outside a car wash off South Haven Street, police told the station.

'I mean, it's always shocking, but it seems as though this is a consistent pattern with what's been happening lately with carjackings in the district. Carjackings are up.'

Police told WBAL the 31-year-old victim flagged down an officer around 2 a.m. on Boston Street saying he'd been shot. Police said investigators believe the victim was shot five minutes away on South Haven Street, where he was sitting in his car before the teen walked up to him armed with a gun, the station said.

Police said the victim grabbed his licensed handgun, and he and the teen exchanged gunfire, after which the teen was unresponsive, WBAL reported, adding that police haven't said whether the teen acted alone.

Medics took the man to a hospital for treatment, according to WBAL's news radio station.

Around 2:20 a.m., police were called to the South Haven Street location and discovered an unidentified male — later confirmed to be the 17-year-old — suffering from severe gunshot wounds, the news radio station said.

Emergency medical personnel were dispatched, and the teen was taken to a hospital in critical condition, the news radio station added.

Those with information about the incident can call police at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-7LOCKUP, WBAL said.

"I mean, it's always shocking, but it seems as though this is a consistent pattern with what's been happening lately with carjackings in the district. Carjackings are up," Arch McKown — vice president of Baltimore Police Department Southwest District Community Relations Council, a liaison between his neighbors and police — told WBAL.

City police data shows carjackings have increased 1,000% since this time last year — from just one reported in the Southeastern District in 2023 to 11 in the same time span this year, WBAL said.

In August, a 16-year-old female driver was shot during an attempted carjacking, Baltimore police told WBAL. Police said the girl and two of her friends were seated in the parked car in the 5100 block of Levindale Road around 7:20 p.m. Aug. 3 when a masked assailant approached them, flashed a gun, and "demanded the occupants get out of the car," the station said. Police told WBAL that the girl immediately reversed the vehicle and was trying to drive away when the assailant shot into the car, striking the teen. Police said she was taken to a hospital, the station said.

Teen uses fake gun while trying to rob man. The painful problem for kid? His victim has a real gun — and uses it.

A 16-year-old male used a fake gun while trying to rob a man on a Philadelphia street late Sunday night.

However, the victim had a real gun and fired it at the teen boy, wounding him and sending him to a hospital, WPVI-TV reported.

The victim remained on the scene and was cooperating with police.

The incident occurred just after 11 p.m. in the 2200 block of Emerald Street in the city's West Kensington neighborhood, the station said.

The teen pressed what he told the 21-year-old victim was a gun to his back and added that he was robbing him, police inspector D.F. Pace told WCAU-TV. The teen was with another would-be robber, the station said.

The 16-year-old told the victim to turn over his keys, his wallet, and any other valuables that he had on him, Pace added to WCAU.

"At that point, the victim began to produce the items that were demanded by the robber, but he was also in possession of a legal firearm," Pace explained to the station.

With that, the man turned and shot the boy once in the leg, Pace added to WCAU, adding that the other would-be thief escaped on foot.

The wounded teen was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children where he was in stable condition, WPVI said.

The victim remained on the scene and was cooperating with police, WPVI added, while also noting that officers said a nearby Ring camera recorded video of the incident.

Pace also told WCAU that the victim — who was uninjured — took back his belongings he had handed over after the teen dropped them.

Responding officers also recovered a toy handgun that Pace said was used in the attempted robbery, WCAU reported.

"After the victim opened fire on the robbers, that gun was dropped, and it was recovered by police, and it is now in police custody, and we now know it to be a fake gun," Pace also told WCAU. "But again, having been pressed into the victim's back, there would have been no way for the victim to have known that."

Police also said they took the teen into custody, WCAU reported.

According to WTXF-TV, the victim was with his girlfriend at the time of the incident.

3 females dragged Philly crossing guard off bus when she tried to escape brutal beating, detective says; suspects arrested

Last week Blaze News reported that three females brutally attacked a Philadelphia crossing guard, resulting in the 29-year-old victim's hospitalization.

The good news is that three suspects have been arrested. The bad news is that the beatdown was way more sinister and vicious than initially reported.

What are the details?

"I couldn't believe they would do this to someone who is out there trying to protect children every day of the week," Capt. Frank Banford, commanding officer of the Central Detective Division, told WTXF-TV.

Police last week released information about the Nov. 30 attack, including still images of the suspects. Police said the victim was working as a crossing guard at 2800 Cecil B. Moore Avenue around 3:40 p.m. when she was involved in an argument with three females.

Cops noted that the three females knocked the victim to the ground and punched and stomped her several times. The victim suffered bruising to her head and face as well as swelling to her nose, left hand, and right leg, police said, adding that the victim was taken to Temple Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

But that ain't the half of it.

'Viciousness'

WTXF, citing police sources, reported that the suspects actually attacked the guard because she gave her cell phone to a young girl to call for help after she was attacked by the same suspects.

"The viciousness of it," Banford told the station in reference to the beatdown of the crossing guard. "I mean, they were trying to inflict some injury. There were boots to the face, kicks all over the body, punches. It went on for a couple minutes. It was horrible."

Banford then disclosed to WTXF what may be the worst part: "[The crossing guard] tries to get on the bus ... to get away. They drag her off of the bus, drag her to the ground, start beating her, punching her, kicking her, while she's on the ground ... horrendous."

Arrested

Police arrested two adult females identified as 26-year-old Imani Thomas and 18-year-old Destiny Sanders in connection with the attack, the station said, adding that the third suspect — a 15-year-old girl — turned herself in to authorities.

— (@)

Banford noted to WTXF that police were able to arrest the suspects because of immediate help from citizens who called cops and identified the females within a couple of hours after police released still images of the suspects.

However, the station added that the crossing guard hasn't been back to that intersection since the attack.

How are folks reacting?

Commenters on a WTXF-TV story published on Yahoo News were far from happy about the situation. Here's a sampling from among more than 1,200 (and counting) observations:

  • "Even if identified, found & 20 witnesses came forward, the city STILL wouldn't prosecute them. Probably reduce it to jaywalking," one commenter wrote. "Crime rules, the good citizens are thrown under the bus."
  • "The way to decrease crime is to increase punishment," another commenter opined. "It'll deter some and keep the ones who do commit crimes off the street longer. It's a win-win."
  • "Seems like a responsible and reasonable way for moral, thinking, introspective, intelligent human beings to behave," another commenter quipped.
  • "If you lived in that neighborhood would you come forward and identify any one of them?" another commenter wondered. "The police don't even want to go there."

THIS is the most disturbing part about defense secretary's hospitalization

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s three-day stay in the hospital was a closely guarded secret. So closely guarded, in fact, that the Pentagon did not alert President Joe Biden or Austin’s second in command about his ailment.

Austin was reportedly dealing with complications following an elective medical procedure.

“The president doesn’t need to know, you know, ‘cause he’s not making the decisions,” Glenn Beck jokes.

Meanwhile, we’re simultaneously engaged in two theaters of war.

“I believe the Iranians are still launching rockets at our ships. Was there no time in the last seven days where somebody was like, ‘You know what? Let’s call the Pentagon,’” Glenn says.

Austin was even brought into the Intensive Care Unit while the deputy secretary of defense, who was to assume the defense secretary’s responsibilities, was on vacation in Puerto Rico.

“So, for days she was the acting secretary of defense, but she didn’t even know it,” Glenn says.

“You almost understand that they wouldn’t tell Biden, because you know, he’s out of it, but how do people in the Pentagon not know?” Stu Burguiere says in agreement.

Stu believes this is quite telling of just how defunct our government is.

“How are we not recognizing that statement is a massive problem? That the American people are actually in a position where they think it’s normal that the president of the United States just is so out of it, they wouldn’t tell him that the secretary of defense was in ICU?” Stu exclaims.

Girl, 14, repeatedly stomps, punches head of another girl in class: Cops. Victim hospitalized; suspect released to guardian.

A 14-year-old girl repeatedly stomped and punched the head of another 14-year-old girl in a Delaware high school classroom last week, police said — and while the victim was hospitalized, the suspect was released to a guardian.

What are the details?

Delaware State Police said the suspect entered a classroom in Lake Forest High School in Felton around 1 p.m. Dec. 19 and repeatedly punched and stomped on the victim’s head. Felton is just over an hour south of Wilmington.

Teachers removed the suspect from the classroom, and a school resource officer detained the suspect, police said.

The parent of the girl who was attacked took the victim to an area hospital, where she was treated for serious head injuries, police said.

The suspect on Saturday turned herself in on a charge of second-degree felony assault, police said, adding that she was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released to a guardian on a $5,000 unsecured bond.

How are folks reacting?

Commenters on a story about the incident posted to Yahoo News were incredulous over the extreme violence and how the legal system is handling things:

  • "Stomping a person's head is not assault, it is attempted MURDER," one commenter said. "Stomping the head is the prison method inmates use to kill. This little murderer's so-called parents should be be charged also."
  • "Felony assault? How about felony attempted murder. You punch someone that is assault; you stomp on someones head, that is attempted murder," another commenter added. "Make an example out of her. Charge her as an adult and send her to prison for at least 25 [years]. If she does not get in trouble in prison then she can get out; if she gets into trouble, then she stays there for life. She did this once; she will be able to do it again."
  • "We'll just a do a restorative circle, talk about why you stomped the girl, make sure you understand that 'you cannot stomp on the girl's head,' talk about who[se] fault this really is, like society, or some mythical mental condition, or some systemic 'thing,' we'll give you a cookie and hot chocolate, make sure you're okay and your feet aren't sore from stomping on the girl's head ... if they are, we'll massage them for you, then send you back to class ... this approach has made school violence so much more rare and much less severe than it was 25 or 30 years ago, right?" another commenter wondered.

Video: Thug sucker-punches 68-year-old market worker in face, knocks him out. Victim suffers fractured skull, brain bleeding.

Authorities have accused a 25-year-old male of sucker-punching a 68-year-old market worker in the face, knocking out the victim and hospitalizing him with a fractured skull and brain bleeding.

What are the details?

Surveillance video shows Carlos Munguia taking out the trash as part of his job at Sun Valley Market and Liquor in Winchester, California, late last month, KTLA-TV reported.

Video also shows a man approaching Munguia and beginning to talk to him, when the man suddenly punches Munguia in the face.

Munguia falls on his back and is knocked unconscious, the station said, as the back of his head hits the surface of the parking lot. The attacker runs off.

“We don’t know what the conversation was about,” Alma Romero, the victim’s daughter-in-law, told KTLA. “Maybe he was asking for money, but Carlos is a person that will give money to a person that needs it. If they need food, he would give it to them.”

Munguia's wife, who works at the market with him, told KTLA she noticed he’d been gone for a while, but she didn't know anything was wrong until a customer helped Munguia to his feet and brought him back into the market.

Initially Munguia thought he simply fell down, but his family learned what actually happened after viewing the surveillance video, the station said.

Munguia has been hospitalized ever since the Oct. 27 attack, KTLA said, adding that his family said he suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeding and has a lengthy road to recovery ahead of him.

“Right now, he barely opens his eyes. There’s times that he knows who we are and days where he doesn’t know who we are,” Alma Romero, the victim’s daughter-in-law, told the station. “It’s sad. We can’t talk to him or bring him home.”

Who is the suspect?

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies arrested suspect Izack Ramirez of Winchester the day after the attack, KTLA said, adding that authorities said they found evidence of the crime while serving a search warrant at Ramirez's home.

“We just want this guy to stay in jail, do his time,” Romero noted to the station. “It’s not fair that he hit an elderly 68-year-old that wasn’t doing anything wrong.”

KTLA said Ramirez has pleaded not guilty in the face of numerous felony charges, including inflicting great bodily injury to an elder. The station said he's due back in court Friday.

Munguia’s family also launched a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses, which include surgeries and his hospital stay.
