'I've always believed ... that the truth matters' This Democrat just announced a Senate bid

Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California announced on Thursday that he is running for U.S. Senate.

Schiff, who has served in the House for more than two decades, had previously said that he would seriously consider a Senate bid if Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) retires and that he was seriously considering a Senate run. According to CNN, Feinstein has filed reelection paperwork with the Federal Election Commission but has not announced whether she will run again in 2024 — the senator will turn 90 years old later this year.

"I've always believed that what's right matters, that the truth matters, and that decency matters," Schiff said in a campaign video. "Today's Republican Party is gutting the middle class, threatening our democracy," Schiff claimed. "We have to stop them. That's why I'm running for the U.S. Senate."

“Our democracy is at great risk. Because GOP leaders care more about power than anything else.

And because our economy isn’t working for millions of hard working Americans.

We’re in the fight of our lives—a fight I’m ready to lead as California’s next U.S. Senator.”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) rejected the appointments of Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) to sit on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, a panel on which the two Democrats had previously served and which Schiff had previously chaired.

"I knew today would be a great day to launch my campaign for Senate. For a lot of reasons. Including this one: Happy birthday, Kevin McCarthy. I'm running to be your next U.S. Senator!" Schiff tweeted on Thursday.

Mike Pompeo, who served as CIA director and then as secretary of state during Donald Trump's presidential tenure, claimed during an appearance on Fox News Channel's "Outnumbered" that he knows Schiff has leaked classified information. Pompeo, who has indicated that he is mulling the possibility of a presidential bid, said that when information was supplied to Schiff and his staff, it showed up in places it should not have "with alarming regularity."

"Let's be clear: Adam Schiff should be nowhere near the Intelligence Committee," Pompeo tweeted.

"Let’s be clear: I don’t back down from bullies," Schiff responded.

Pompeo says he knows this Democrat leaked classified info

Mike Pompeo claimed during an appearance on Fox News Channel's "Outnumbered" that Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California has leaked classified information.

Pompeo, who served as CIA director and then as secretary of state during former President Donald Trump's tenure, said during his time in those roles, he knows that Schiff "leaked classified information that had been provided to him."

Pompeo said that when information was supplied to Schiff and his staff, that information showed up in places it should not have, "with alarming regularity."

Pompeo has indicated that he is mulling the possibility of a 2024 presidential run, while Schiff has said that he will consider running for U.S. Senate if Sen. Dianne Feinstein decides to retire.

Meta announced on Wednesday that it plans to reinstate "Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks."

Schiff described the social media company's move as "dangerous."

"Trump incited an insurrection. And tried to stop the peaceful transfer of power. He’s shown no remorse. No contrition. Giving him back access to a social media platform to spread his lies and demagoguery is dangerous," Schiff tweeted. "@facebook caved, giving him a platform to do more harm."

Trump, who had long been expected to announce another White House run, officially announced in November that he is running for president again.

Kevin McCarthy boots Democrats Schiff and Swalwell from House Intelligence Committee, and they are outraged: 'Integrity matters more'

Newly elected Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy rejected the nominations of Democratic Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, both of California, to the House Intelligence Committee and they expressed their outrage on social media.

"I have rejected the appointments of Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell for the House Intelligence Committee," wrote McCarthy. "I am committed to returning the @HouseIntel Committee to one of genuine honesty and credibility that regains the trust of the American people."

The speaker said in his letter that both Schiff and Swalwell had made the country less safe through their previous actions on the intelligence committee. He also referenced Swalwell's relationship with an alleged Chinese spy and Schiff's insistence on pushing the Russian collusion conspiracy theory.

"I cannot put partisan loyalty ahead of national security, and I cannot simply recognize years of service as the sole criteria for membership on this essential committee. Integrity matters more," wrote McCarthy.

"It is my assessment that the misuse of this panel during the 116th and 117th Congressses severely undermined its primary national security and oversight missions — ultimately leaving our nation less safe," he concluded.

Schiff responded by slinging his own accusations against McCarthy.

"Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and @RepSwalwell off the Intelligence Committee," he responded.

“Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and @RepSwalwell off the Intelligence Committee.

This is petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump.

If he thinks this will stop me, he will soon find out just how wrong he is.

I will always defend our democracy.”

"This is petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump," Schiff added. "If he thinks this will stop me, he will soon find out just how wrong he is. I will always defend our democracy."

Swalwell relied on a Pinocchio rating from the Washington Post to register his outrage.

"This rejection is based on a claim that the Washington Post independent-fact checker gave 4 Pinocchios," he tweeted.

"Speaker Boehner and Ryan, both Gang of 8 members, appointed me to Intel with access to the same facts McCarthy is distorting. He can keep me off Intel, but I’m not going away," he added.

McCarthy also announced the creation of two select subcommittees, one to investigate the Weaponization of the Federal Government and another to probe whether the government's gain-of-function research contributed to the coronavirus pandemic.

The truth is out there: Congress will hold the first open hearing about UFOs in over 50 years, Pentagon officials set to testify

A subcommittee in the U.S. House of Representatives will be holding an open congressional hearing next week about unidentified flying objects (UFOs) for the first time in more than 50 years.

Andre Carson, a Democratic representative from Indiana, said that the House Intelligence Committee will be leading the charge, Vice reported.

He said, “Congress hasn’t held a public hearing on unidentified aerial phenomena (UFO's) in over 50 years. That will change next week when I lead a hearing in @HouseIntel on this topic & the national security risk it poses. Americans need to know more about these unexplained occurrences.”

The hearing is currently scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, and it will take place in front of a subcommittee of the House Intelligence Committee that is currently chaired California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff.

Schiff said that the committee is holding the series of hearings to explore “one of the great mysteries of our time and to break the cycle of excessive secrecy and speculation with truth and transparency.”

At the time of writing, two officials currently serving in the Pentagon are scheduled to testify at the hearing.

After the New York Times published a 2017 article about the existence of a project called “the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP)” in the Pentagon that was focused on the identification of UFOs, official government disclosures about UFOs have come with increasingly rapidity.

In 2021, the Pentagon released a report about its UFO program that detailed more than 140 sightings of aerial objects that could not be explained between 2004 and 2021. The report was considered to be relatively underwhelming at the time, because much of the information had already been disclosed and much of the report was simply concerned with securing additional funding for the Pentagon.

The Black Vault, a government transparency organization, was able to obtain a classified version of this report earlier this year. Reportedly, this version of the report contains more fascinating details but still has considerable parts of it redacted.

Since the 2021 report was released, various outlets have obtained hundreds of pages of reports and research on futuristic technology funded by the government under the auspices of the AATIP and a sister program called the Advanced Aerospace Weapons System Application Program.

The Barack Obama Presidential Library has also said that it has thousands of pages of documents pertaining to UFOs.
