'An affront to REAL women everywhere': Calls to boycott Hershey's mount after company features male transsexual in International Women's Day promo

Hershey's has brought back its "SHE" bar as part of an International Women's Day campaign to push more of its chocolate in Canada.

Although the company claims to want to "shine a light on the women and girls who inspire us every day," among the five individuals enjoying the spotlight is a man masquerading as a female.

The inclusion of a male transsexual in a purported celebration of women and womanhood has outraged many online, prompting calls for a boycott and claims that Hershey's is "erasing women."

The individual who calls himself Fae Johnstone is a transsexual activist and executive director of Wisdom2Action. According to his website, Johnstone is also a "white settler, from a middle class family," as well as the first male transsexual to serve on the board of directors of the YWCA Canada.

Johnstone tweeted Wednesday, "The chocolate's out of the wrapper! Honoured to be featured in this campaign by @Hersheys Canada for #InternationalWomensDay alongside 4 brilliant sisters and change-makers."

Johnstone noted that Canadian convenience stores would now be carrying the so-called special edition SHE chocolate bars with his face and the four featured women on them, adding, "We still have a long way to go in the fight to end misogyny, patriarchy and gender-based violence. I hope this campaign helps give more young women and girls role models and possibility models. And shows them how we can be change the world, together."

The four women in the Hershey's campaign were Kélicia Massala, Rita Audi, Naila Moloo, and Autumn Peltier. Massala and Audi are "gender equality" activists. Moloo is a "climate tech researcher." Peltier is a native rights and water activist.

This campaign was executed in partnership with the United Nations Foundation's GirlUp, a leftist nonprofit that dabbles in climate alarmism and pro-abortion activism.

Canadian writer and conservative columnist Sue-Ann Levy replied, "Never did like Hersheys chocolate."

One user wrote, "I hate it when you get a candy bar and you find out it has nuts after the first bite."

Johnstone reportedly blocked Mia Cathell after the Townhall reporter tweeted, "What an insult to feature a man role-playing as a woman for International Women's Day. An affront to REAL women everywhere."

Abigail Shrier, author of "Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters," wrote, "You get the feeling that these companies *always* despised women -- they were just waiting for the right moment to stick it to us. Here's the thing about real women, @Hersheys : We have long memories."

Former transsexual Oli London tweeted, "Go Woke, Go Broke ... Hersheys chocolate has just disrespected women all over the world by having a MAN who regularly tweets his hatred towards WOMEN become the face of the brands 'International Women’s Day' campaign!"

The account @LeftismForU noted, "The same people who call to 'smash the patriarchy' are the ones supporting putting men playing dress up into women's spaces."

According to trends24, #BoycottHersheys was the top trending topic on Twitter as of the time of publication.

Hershey's alleged erasure of women comes just weeks after Burberry ran an LGBT ad campaign featuring a woman with mastectomy scars from suspected cosmetic surgery.

TheBlaze previously reported that the campaign's critics accused Burberry of seeking to normalize self-mutilation and the transmogrification of healthy young women.

Concerned Women for America tweeted, "Burberry’s new ad campaign has nothing to do with selling clothes but selling an ideology to young women that they were born in the wrong body and the only way to feel better is to become a boy. Stop glorifying and normalizing self-mutilation."

Horowitz: Gov. Noem’s retreat on South Dakota transgender bill shows the need to make red states red again

Every statewide partisan officeholder in South Dakota is a Republican. The GOP controls the state House 62-8 and the Senate 32-3 — the largest majorities ever. Yet they can't seem to ban castration of minors or prevent men in female sports as part of the loony transgender agenda. What gives? They are plagued by the same business lobby preventing every other GOP supermajority state from protecting its historic cultural conservatism.

On Feb. 24, the South Dakota house passed HB 1217, which would prevent men from playing in female sports within state grade school and collegiate programs. Many red states have either considered or passed similar bills in recent months, and given the lopsided margins in the legislature, I didn't pay much attention to this bill because I thought its passage was a foregone conclusion. The bill did lose some Republicans in the House, but still passed with a 50-17 supermajority.

Signs of slippage showed in the Senate when the bill passed 20-15 on March 8, with a large number of the Republicans voting with the left. Nonetheless, Gov. Kristi Noem tweaked the left on International Women's day by promising to sign this bill into law.

— Governor Kristi Noem (@Governor Kristi Noem)1615234273.0

Gov. Noem has been widely hailed as a hero by conservatives for standing up to COVID fascism and refusing to implement mask mandates and stay-at-home orders in South Dakota. As such, many were shocked when she did an about-face last Friday and issued a de facto veto threat until changes are made to the bill.

Unfortunately, I was not surprised, because prior to Noem's courageous stance on the lockdowns, she did disappoint us on refugee resettlement and on this transgender issue as well. Last January, the South Dakota House passed a bill prohibiting castration operations for minors who believe they are transgender, similar to a bill that recently passed in Alabama. The bill suddenly and bizarrely died in the Senate, and I remember seeing at the time that local media reported the governor had "concerns" about the bill. It's important to keep this in mind for what comes next.

Obviously, sensing the outrage from her new conservative fans, Noem took to Twitter to defend her actions.

I believe that boys should play boys’ sports, and girls should play girls’ sports. I'm returning House Bill 1217 wi… https://t.co/CSBILHIVAM

The upshot of her long Twitter thread is that she is really 100% in support of maintaining the integrity of girls' sports but was merely concerned about some technical details and was offering some "recommendations as to STYLE and FORM."

It is true that in South Dakota a governor can issue a quasi-veto on style and form, which basically sends the bill back to the legislature for technical changes. Upon the legislature making those changes, the bill automatically becomes law, but if legislators decline to make those changes, the governor's recommendation becomes a veto. However, typically, style and form literally mean clerical mistakes, grammar, or spelling. Noem is proposing substantive changes, which in itself calls into question the constitutionality of this procedure.

Putting procedural rules aside, Noem gives away the farm in one line of her tweet thread, when she says "competing on the national stage means compliance with the national governing bodies that oversee collegiate athletics." Here we see that this is all about placating the NCAA gestapo and not about some hyper-technical unintended consequences that she claims to be worried about. She is requesting that the entire bill only apply to K-12 athletics, but not colleges. It's hard to see how this is not political and being done because of special interest pressure from out of the state.

This is why, contrary to her claim that this was fixing some style or form, Noem recommends gutting Section 2 of the bill, which would require athletes to verify their age and biological sex and attest to not taking anabolic steroids every year. This is the only way to actually make the ban on gender-bending enforceable. As we've seen with other conservative proposals opposed by GOP governors, Noem plays the "conservative" card by noting that this would create an "unworkable administrative burden on schools." However, this stuff is basic information that every school has on a student, especially those enrolled in athletic programs. It's hard to see where there would be an extra burden, other than catching those who aren't truly female.

Most importantly, Noem suggests gutting the two remedies for female athletes laid out in section 4: a cause of action against the institution for bringing men into the program and a prohibition on retaliating against female students who blow the whistle on biological men being placed on their teams.

Her proposal also adds on the words "as reflected on the birth certificate or affidavit provided upon initial enrollment …" to the requirement in Section 1 that female sports be made "available only to participants who are female, based on their biological sex." Why does biological sex need to be defined by birth certificate, especially as the left is trying to change birth certificates to reflect "identity" anyway?

So, what's really happening here? Well, it's not just the governor. As we can see, a number of senators voted against it, and conservatives actually had to use a "smokeout" (the equivalent of a discharge petition in Congress) to get the bill out of committee and onto the floor. The reality is that many establishment Republicans in red states are scared about ticking off Amazon and the Chamber of Commerce. They want to attract big business to their states with lower taxes, but then allow those business forces to use that against them and foist cultural Marxism upon the state. This is how they are painting red states blue.

Yesterday, Noem called on states to protect Title IX, but this rings hollow without a complete ban on an absurd idea backed by a movement as strong as the transgender lobby.

Today, we’re announcing a coalition of athletes, leaders, and anyone who cares about defending fairness in women’s… https://t.co/XAgky3FEIC
— Governor Kristi Noem (@Governor Kristi Noem)1616440419.0

She is trying to step around the issue and have the corporations control the culture of red states. The question for Noem and every other red state Republican is this: If corporate America's financial decisions will now dictate cultural Marxism to red states, where can Americans escape to when all 50 states become blue?

Gov. Kristi Noem says South Dakota celebrating International Women's Day with bill banning biological males from girls' sports

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem joined in Monday on a social media frenzy to recognize International Women's Day, sending the message that her state was celebrating the occasion by passing legislation that will protect women's sports by prohibiting biological males from competing with girls.

What are the details?

Noem tweeted out, "In South Dakota, we're celebrating #InternationalWomensDay by defending women's sports! I'm excited to sign this bill very soon."

The Republican governor linked to a message sent by the group American Principles, which proclaimed, "GREAT NEWS! The South Dakota Senate just passed the Women's Fairness in Sports bill, 20-15. It now heads to @govkristinoem's desk for signature."

The Hill reported that the bill, once signed into law, will "legally prevent any student at a state institution from joining a sports team that does not match their at-birth biological identity." The legislation would require "athletes in South Dakota state schools to provide information regarding their biological sex as well as their age and whether they are taking steroids."

The American Civil Liberties Union in South Dakota is not happy about the legislation, issuing a statement that said the bill "is an attack on transgender women and girls that will cause them serious emotional and physical harm."

"It prevents transgender women and girls from having the opportunity to play sports and have their personal dignity respected," the statement added.

Debate continues on transgender athletes

Biological males competing in girls' sports has sparked a fierce debate in recent years as transgender athletes have dominated biological females in competitions. The situation has caused particular controversy in high school sports, where girls' athletic records and college scholarships are on the line.

President Joe Biden signed an executive order calling on U.S. schools to allow transgender athletes to compete in the gender category with which they identify, dismissing biological women's civil rights protections under Title IX. When pressed on the issue, White House press secretary Jen Psaki recently explained that "the president's belief is that trans rights are human rights," Fox News reported.

But the White House and trans advocacy organizations have dismissed biological women's civil rights in regard to the issue.

The ACLU, which purports to stand up for all those whose civil liberties are oppressed, is one of the groups that has selectively ignored biological female athletes' civil liberties on the topic.

In the organization's own tweet celebrating women on Monday, the ACLU tweeted, "On International Women's Day, here's your reminder that trans women are women."
