Singer Maren Morris says she's quitting country music because of 'Trump years,' claims 'Try That in a Small Town' is only popular to 'own the libs'

Singer Maren Morris said she's quitting country music because "it's burning itself down" thanks in part to the "Trump years."

Morris declared that she is no longer a country music singer this week. Maren's newest album, "The Bridge," is her first on Columbia Records, where previously she was on the label's Nashville division.

The Los Angeles Times noted, "Rather, she says she’s leaving because of what she views as the country music industry’s unwillingness to honestly reckon with its history of racism and misogyny and to open its gates to more women and queer people and people of color."

However, she admitted that "as a white woman, she’s benefited from the system as it is."

The Grammy-winning singer claimed that because she is a female country music star, she is "scrutinized more" than her male peers, "even when you’re doing well."

Morris said that she's "always been an asker of questions and a status quo challenger just by being a woman."

Morris feels that the presidency of Donald Trump exposed how horrible Americans are.

"After the Trump years, people’s biases were on full display," Morris declared. "It just revealed who people really were and that they were proud to be misogynistic and racist and homophobic and transphobic. All these things were being celebrated, and it was weirdly dovetailing with this hyper-masculine branch of country music. I call it butt rock."

Maren said she doesn't think of herself as a "political artist."

"I just wrote songs about real life through a lens of deep respect for my country heroes," she said. "But the further you get into the country music business, that’s when you start to see the cracks. And once you see it, you can’t un-see it. So you start doing everything you can with the little power you have to make things better."

In the music video for her new song "The Tree," homes have signs in the front yard that read: "Go Woke Go Broke" and "Don't Treat On Me."

Morris, 33, was asked about the popularity of Jason Aldean's anti-riot anthem "Try That in a Small Town."

"But I think it’s a last bastion. People are streaming these songs out of spite. It’s not out of true joy or love of the music. It’s to own the libs. And that’s so not what music is intended for," Maren declared. "Music is supposed to be the voice of the oppressed — the actual oppressed. And now it’s being used as this really toxic weapon in culture wars."

Last year, Morris had a feud with Jason Aldean and his wife. Brittany Aldean questioned the legitimacy of transgender surgeries and treatment for children. Morris called Brittany a "scumbag human" and "Insurrection Barbie."

Maren said her new music exemplifies "the aftermath of walking away from something that was really important to you and the betrayal that you felt very righteously."

The former country music singer explained that one of her new songs is "about disarming that trauma and saying, 'I can’t bail water out of this sinking ship anymore. It’s so futile. I choose happiness.'"

Morris said when she performed at a recent Taylor Swift concert in Chicago that she had "never felt so safe at a live show before" because the crowd was "90% women and 10% gays and dads."

"No one’s hammered or puking in the aisles or getting into a fight or anything," she said. "It’s just so joyful."

Nashville PR firm drops Jason Aldean after his wife talked about being happy she didn't change gender when she went through her 'tomboy phase'

The longtime publicity firm of Jason Aldean abruptly dropped the country music star after nearly two decades together. The PR firm abandoned Aldean following a social media post from his wife that some people felt was controversial and "transphobic."

Nashville publicity firm the GreenRoom announced last week that it would be parting ways with Aldean.

"Music has always been and remains The GreenRoom’s core focus, so we had to make the difficult decision after 17 years to step away from representing Jason,” The GreenRoom co-owner Tyne Parrish told Billboard in a statement. “We aren’t the best people for the gig anymore, but will always be big fans of his music — he is one of the greatest live entertainers in country music."

Parrish did not explain the reason for dropping the Aldean – who has earned five Grammy Award nominations, including two for "Best Country Album."

The GreenRoom cut ties with Aldean after his wife posted a social media message that some people found to be offensive.

On Aug. 23, Brittany Aldean shared an Instagram video to her 2.3 million followers of her putting on makeup with the caption: "I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life."

The "Dirt Road Anthem" singer reacted to the post with a laughing emoji and a reply that said, "Lmao!! I'm glad they didn’t too, cause you and I wouldn’t have worked out."

However, some people were offended by the post.

Country music artists Maren Morris and Cassadee Pope both believed the remarks to be transphobic.

Pope wrote on Twitter, "You'd think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their 'tomboy phase' to someone wanting to transition. Real nice."

Morris reacted by saying, "It's so easy to like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie."

On Aug. 26, Brittany Aldean responded to Pope, and argued against transgender surgeries and treatments that are also called "gender-affirming care."

"Advocating for the genital mutilation of children under the disguise of love and calling it ‘gender-affirming care’ is one of the worst evils," she wrote on Instagram. "I will always support my children and do what I can to protect their innocence."

Aldean said that her young son Memphis recently wanted to become a dinosaur and that her baby daughter Navy may want to be a cat in the future.

"They’re children. Some parents want to be accepted by society so badly that they’re willing to make life-altering decisions for their children who aren’t old enough to fully comprehend the consequences of those actions," Aldean declared.

"Love is protecting your child until they are mature enough as an adult to make their own life decisions. Thankful my parents allowed me to go through my tomboy phase without changing my gender.”

In a post shared on Aug. 31, Aldean added, "Per usual, my words have been taken out of context over the last week."

Aldean also used the post to promote her "Barbie-inspired" collection of conservative-themed merchandise. The clothing line features T-shirts and sweatshirts emblazoned with the words: "Don’t Tread On Our Kids."

Country star Jason Aldean’s wife slaps back at Kamala Harris’ ‘long weekend’ Memorial Day tweet: ‘Our family doesn’t take Memorial Day lightly’

Country star Jason Aldean's wife, Brittany, hit out at Vice President Kamala Harris' tweet about the "long weekend" ahead of Memorial Day.

What's a brief history here?

The vice president faced heavy criticism after she shared a smiling photo of herself on social media ahead of the solemn Memorial Day holiday and captioned it, "Enjoy the long weekend."

The tweet was entirely devoid of any mention of fallen U.S. heroes, who are honored on Memorial Day.

Enjoy the long weekend. https://t.co/ilGOrod4AW

Following the backlash, she shared a much more appropriate message commemorating those whose lives were lost to defend America and its freedom.

A day after the first tweet, the vice president wrote, "Throughout our history our service men and women have risked everything to defend our freedoms and our country. As we prepare to honor them on Memorial Day, we remember their service and their sacrifice."

What are the details?

Brittany took to Instagram earlier this week and shared a video of an American flag waving in the breeze.

In the widely liked post, Brittany wrote, "Our family doesn't take Memorial Day lightly[.] It's more than a 'long weekend[.]' @jasonaldean and I both come from military families and understand the importance our loved ones and others have sacrificed for us, and our freedom."

"We fly our flag high ... EVERY SINGLE DAY," she continued. "It's the least we can do to show our appreciation. God bless the Mamas who couldn't hold their babies one more time. To the Daddies who weren't able to express just how proud they were. WE THINK AND PRAY FOR YOU, DAILY ... Thank you Military and everyone who continues to serve this beautiful country and risk their lives for us!!!! We love you!!"

At the time of this reporting, the video has been liked more than 130,000 times.
