A game-show contestant who won "Jeopardy!" dozens of times cited race and immigration in a string of divisive comments after leaving the show.
The remark come after 31 consecutive victories and almost $900,000 in winnings across March and April.
'I was able to become part of the history of an American institution.'
Jamie Ding's winning streak is the fifth longest in "Jeopardy!" history, and the $882,605 he netted stands as the fifth-highest regular play winnings in the show's history. First in both those categories goes to host Ken Jennings, who won more than $2.5 million across the span of 74 straight wins, 34 more than second-place record-holder Amy Schneider.
Foreign asset
Unlike Jennings, Ding did it all without being a native-born American of European origin, something he was eager to point out to People magazine following his final episode.
"As an immigrant and a person of color, I was able to become part of the history of an American institution," Ding stated.
The Princeton grad went on to condemn the Trump administration's policy of deporting illegal immigrants.
"'Jeopardy!' really is an institution, and America's turning 250 years old, and the federal government is going after immigrants in a way unlike anything that we've seen in the recent past," he said. "So I hope that immigrants can be seen in a positive light too."

Shame game
Ding has used his newfound fame to champion other causes, recently appearing with New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) in support of a new state housing initiative.
According to Wheel of Fortune Tonight, he works for the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency as a tax credit program administrator.
"The agency I work for, we manage the low-income housing credits for New Jersey. We fund a huge chunk of the affordable housing that's built in the state," Ding said, per NorthJersey.com. "We're ahead of New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania. If you're from one of those states, then shame on you. Build more housing."
Bus buff
According to Huffington Post, Ding was born in Australia and is a naturalized U.S. citizen; his parents emigrated from Beijing.
"I kept hearing how it was bringing people together," he said about his appearances on "Jeopardy!"
"I love that very much. I've heard people say, 'It's nice to have something positive on TV!'" he added.
Ding has said that he hopes to use his winnings to move closer to public transit.

Winston Nguyen is an ex-convict who swindled $300,000 from an elderly couple and a former "Jeopardy!" champion. However, the current teacher at an elite New York City private school has most recently made headlines for being arrested for the alleged "dissemination of intimate images via social media," according to officials.
Nguyen is currently a math teacher at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights. According to the school's website, preschool tuition starts at $52,900 and goes up to $60,525 for high school students.
The elite NYC school has celebrity alumni, including actress Lena Dunham, artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Maya Hawk – the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.
Saint Ann hired Nguyen as a middle- and high-school math teacher in 2020 – just one year after he was released from the prison on Rikers Island.
While at Rikers Island, Nguyen reportedly called into a radio show to speak to then-Mayor Bill de Blasio to complain about the prison's conditions.
Nguyen had been convicted of stealing $300,000 from a 96-year-old blind man and his 92-year-old wife, according to the New York Post. Nguyen had been a home health aide to the elderly couple while stealing the money to allegedly pay for pricey ballet tickets and trips to Florida.
Regarding Nguyen's criminal history, a Saint Ann's spokesperson told the Daily Beast, "A nonviolent criminal record may not preclude employment. The school gives a careful and discerning assessment of a job candidate’s potential fit with the school."
In response to the current accusations against Nguyen, the spokesperson stated: "We are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their efforts, and right now we’re focused on helping our students process this news."
The spokesperson confirmed that Nguyen is a "suspect in an ongoing investigation related to the dissemination of intimate images via social media."
The spokesperson added, "Upon his arrest on Thursday, he was immediately placed on leave by the school and he remains on leave."
Saint Ann’s Head of School Kenyatte Reid reportedly notified parents that the teacher was arrested, and it was linked to "inappropriate sexualized images."
"I was informed this evening by the assistant district attorney that his arrest is in relation to an investigation that dates back to January 2024," Reid wrote in an email to parents.
Nguyen has yet to be charged with any crimes and was released on Saturday. However, his defense attorney is awaiting information from prosecutors regarding potential charges.
Lawyer Frank Rothman told the New York Post, "We are awaiting a decision from the Brooklyn DA's office regarding charges against Mr. Nguyen. We are expecting some movement in the near future."
Rothman informed the Daily Beast, "I don’t think this is something that’s just going to be a non-issue. There’s going to be an issue. The question is, how big and when?"
Nguyen garnered some fame in 2014 when he became a "Jeopardy!" champion.

Actress Mayim Bialik announced that Sony notified her she will not continue hosting the syndicated version of the gameshow "Jeopardy!"
"Sony has informed me that I will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy!" Bialik said in a statement. "I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family. For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America's Favorite Quiz Show, thank you."
"Jeopardy!" legend Ken Jennings, who has been sharing hosting duties with Bialik, will serve as the only host of the program going forward, according to a statement posted by the show on social media.
"Mayim Bialik has announced she will no longer be hosting the syndicated version of Jeopardy!. We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated Jeopardy!. We are truly grateful for all of Mayim's contributions to Jeopardy!, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials," the show's statement noted.
Jennings, who rose to fame when he won a whopping 74 games, amassing more than $2.5 million in winnings as a contestant on the show, still holds the record for the most consecutive games won and for highest winnings during regular-season play.
"Jennings and Mayim Bialik officially became the hosts of the show ahead of Season 39 in July 2022, after guest hosting the show in Season 37 and sharing hosting duties for Season 38," the "Jeopardy!" website states. "In May 2023, he [Jennings] hosted the first-ever 'Jeopardy! Masters' tournament in primetime on ABC."

Viewers express shock that 'Jeopardy!' contestants couldn't solve elementary Bible-knowledge clue about the Lord's Prayer
People reacted with shock after all three contestants on an episode of the long-running "Jeopardy!" quiz show were apparently stumped by an elementary Bible knowledge-related question.
None of the three players rang in to respond when host Mayim Bialik presented a clue that read, "MATTHEW 6:9 SAYS, 'OUR FATHER WHICH ART IN HEAVEN', THIS 'BE THY NAME.'"
After the apparently clueless contestants failed to offer a response, Bialik supplied the answer: "Hallowed be thy name."

People took to social media to express their surprise that none of the contestants knew the correct response.
"Can I admit to being genuinely shocked that not one Jeopardy! contestant recognized The Lord’s Prayer?" someone tweeted.
"How do you not know The Lord's Prayer? #Jeopardy," someone else wrote.
"A clue that's essentially a fill-in-the-blank in the Our Father/Lord's Prayer, and it's a triple stumper," someone tweeted along with an exploding-head emoji.
"Did anyone else notice that ALL THREE Jeopardy contestants tonight, couldn't even fill in the blank, one word, on the opening line of The Lord's Prayer? Kind of fits in today's Biden America. So sad," someone else wrote.
Another person tweeted, "Very weak selection of Jeopardy contestants tonight... none of them knew the Lord's Prayer clue? I'm an agnostic and knew that."
"Did anyone notice that no one knew the words to "The Lord's Prayer"? What a reflection of our society that was. You'd think at least one of them would recognize it," another person wrote.
"Y'all really ain't know the first two lines of the Lord’s Prayer?!? #Jeopardy," someone tweeted.
