Liberals suffer complete meltdown over DeSantis sending migrants to Martha's Vineyard, make comparisons to Nazis, ethnic cleansing, and the Holocaust
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis flew approximately 50 illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard on Wednesday. Reactions on Twitter from liberals accused DeSantis of everything from human trafficking to becoming the next Adolf Hitler.
"Yes, Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard today were part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations," DeSantis' communications director, Taryn Fenske, told Fox News on Wednesday.
"States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country’ by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies," the office of DeSantis stated.
Martha's Vineyard is an affluent enclave in Massachusetts, where Joe Biden won 80% of the 2020 presidential election vote. The island of the elite has celebrity residents such as Jackie Kennedy, Mike Wallace, Spike Lee, David Letterman, and the Obamas – who own a $12 million, 29-acre private beachfront estate with a 7,000-square-foot mansion.
In reaction to 50 migrants being flown to Martha's Vineyard, liberals reacted with fury, unhinged assertions, and comparisons to Nazi Germany.
Author Jessica Valenti raged, "Just catching up on Ron DeSantis flying migrants to Martha's Vineyard as some sort of political stunt. Unlike DeSantis, these are f***ing human beings. What a disgusting piece of s**t."
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) said, "It's outrageous. They lure people, like human traffickers ... onto buses and unknowing where they're going to. They supposedly are the advocates for human life. They have no concern for the lives of these people."
Leftist writer Seth Abramson blustered about DeSantis, "ATTENTION FBI: INVESTIGATE THIS MAN FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING"
MSNBC host Chris Hayes lamented, "Deeply deeply sick and dehumanizing to fling human beings somewhere vindictively."
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) said, "Exploiting vulnerable people for political stunts is repulsive and cruel. Massachusetts is fully capable of handling asylum seekers, and I'll keep working with local, state, and federal partners to ensure we have the necessary resources to care for people with dignity."
Former CNN correspondent Jacki Schechner said, "The Nazis had a relocation program. DeSantis' communications director actually uses the words 'the state’s relocation program' in this article."
Rolling Stone reporter Asawin Suebsaeng wrote on Twitter, "The hurling migrants at liberal cities and towns thing is narrowly funny in a meta way only because it’s premised on the assumption that everyone is as xenophobic and cold hearted as the governors and officials doing the hurling, and I don’t think they’ve once been proven right."
NBC Think writer Noah Berlatsky ranted, "Seriously, this is an ethnic cleansing program. they are transporting people across borders without their consent based on race and ethnicity."
Transgender advocate Charlotte Clymer claimed, "The supposedly godless, east coast heathens of Martha's Vineyard demonstrated more of Christ's grace and love in welcoming refugees with open arms than the supposedly Christ-loving Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida could ever hope to do."
Democratic activist Jon Cooper tweeted, "I guess the pain I feel for the immigrants sent to Martha's Vineyard makes me a bleeding heart liberal... and DeSantis a cold-hearted bastard."
Progressive activist Jonathan Cohn lashed out, "DeSantis is fascist scum, and he should be prosecuted for human trafficking."
Author D. Earl Stephens made a comparison to Nazi Germany: "DeSantis rounding up human beings, and shipping them off like they are lesser-than, while Republicans laugh about it, is why people need to start reading about what happened in 1930s and '40s Germany. These Republicans are just disgusting, man. Everything DeSantis and these budding fascists are doing right now stemmed from Trump's disgusting birther blather."
Former Biden-Harris transition team member David Leopold argued, "Forcible transfer of a civilian population is a crime against humanity. And human trafficking is a serious federal crime in the US. Both of these are hallmarks of an anti-democratic totalitarian leader. A political stunt doesn't mask what @GovRonDeSantis & his accomplices in the GOP are doing – transferring a population of immigrants to other parts of the country. It's immoral, it's unAmerican & it's straight out of Putin's playbook."
"The View" host Whoopi Goldberg claimed that Canadians are welcomed into the U.S. because immigration is a "brown people issue" and attacked DeSantis, "These are real, live people with children, and older people, and we can work it out, but if you’re gonna be a bonehead, who wants to play with you?"
“Whoopi calls Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) a "bonehead" and "nasty" for sending illegal immigrants to Martha's Vineyard. "I thought we asked people to come here," she snarked. She tied to compare the illegals to his great-great-grandma who legally immigrated from Italy.”— Nicholas Fondacaro (@Nicholas Fondacaro) 1663254703
A CNN anchor claimed that sending migrants to Martha's Vineyard had the "same themes" as the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust. While promoting his new documentary "The U.S. and the Holocaust," Ken Burns claimed that the decision to send migrants to Martha's Vineyard is "straight out of the authoritarian playbook."
"All of your documentaries are about history, but all of them also make you think about where we are," CNN anchor John Berman said to Burns and co-director Lynne Novick.
"We woke up to the news this morning that Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida sent two planeloads of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts, including kids and whatnot," Berman added. "And I’m not saying, this is not a 1-for-1, this is not a parallel here in any way, but it does address some of the same themes that are part of this documentary."
Burns responded, "Well, it’s the abstraction of human life. It’s basically saying that you can use a human life that is as valuable as yours or mine or Lynne’s and to put it in a position of becoming a political pawn in somebody’s authoritarian game. This is coming straight out of the authoritarian playbook."
Burns continued to assail DeSantis, "This is what’s so disturbing about DeSantis, is to use human beings, to weaponize human beings for a political purpose – it’s like when somebody disagrees with him in Florida, like the Walt Disney Company, he punishes them."
"This is not the actions of a person participating in a democratic process in which there’s an exchange of ideas," the documentary filmmaker claimed. "This is about punishing political enemies, putting on shows, political shows, political theater. And in this case, this is with the lives of human beings."
“CNN's @JohnBerman & filmmaker @KenBurns somehow liken DeSantis offering migrants free flights to Martha's Vineyard to Hitler's Holocaust of Jews”— Tom Elliott (@Tom Elliott) 1663250119
