Legal scholar pokes holes through Newsom's threat to pursue criminal charges against Gov. DeSantis

Legal scholar Jonathan Turley reminded America on Thursday that California Gov. Gavin Newsom's outrage over migrant flights to his state is little more than performative theater.

Newsom floated bringing kidnapping charges against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) after Florida sent two flights of migrants to Sacramento. The state condemned the flights as "state-sanctioned kidnapping." Florida, however, said the migrants traveled voluntarily and proved it with video of the migrants signing consent documents.

But according to Turley, if Newsom wants to be mad at anyone, he only has himself to blame.

"California officials insisted that the consent must have been fraudulent, which seems a strange argument that the state itself is not an inducement," Turley said.

“California officials insisted that the consent must have been fraudulent, which seems a strange argument that the state itself is not an inducement. — Jonathan Turley (@Jonathan Turley) 1686229881

"Pitching the opportunities and protections of California as a sanctuary state is found on the state's own websites," he pointed out. "Newsom has paid money for ads in both Texas and Florida, asking everyone living there to come 'join us in California.' Well they did.

"Given California's ample package of benefits for undocumented migrants — ranging from free college to driver's licenses, cash assistance and food stamps — it was no deception for Florida to highlight the Golden State’s status as a sanctuary state," Turley explained.

California became a so-called sanctuary state in 2017, and, just as Turley noted, Newsom launched advertisements in Florida last year boasting about how great California is while outright lying about the Sunshine State.

Moreover, the taxpayer-funded benefits that California gives immigrants living in their state illegally — subsidized health care, cash assistance, tuition benefits, driver's licenses, and soon, unemployment benefits — conceivably make California the perfect location for immigrants to relocate.

And despite the heavy-handed rhetoric, there is no evidence that DeSantis broke any laws by transporting migrants to California.

Indeed, nothing came of the Martha's Vineyard transportations last year, despite then-U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins promising to investigate and seek criminal charges. Rollins herself resigned last month amid allegations of misconduct.

NBA player Jonathan Isaac starts up anti-woke sports apparel brand that bolsters Christian and conservative values

NBA player Jonathan Isaac announced that he is starting up his own anti-woke sports and apparel brand that will work toward bolstering Christian and conservative values.

Isaac said in a video posted on Twitter, "You have companies that are in that field who have made a conscious decision to either attack or undermine Christian values, conservative values, and things like that. And I think they have the free choice to do so, as much as I disagree, but I feel that we also have the freedom to create what we want to create."

In response to woke apparel companies such as Adidas and Nike, Isaac started the company UNITUS.

"UNITUS is a sports and apparel company, and the basis of it for me is freedom," the Orlando Magic forward said.

Isaac wants to sign athletes from all different sports to "create an infrastructure" to provide sneakers and clothing that will bolster Christian and conservative values.

Isaac told Amala Ekpunobi for the PragerU documentary Unwoke Inc.

In a conversation with Amala Ekpunobi for the PragerU documentary "Unwoke Inc.," Isaac stated, “We can be proud of what we believe in. We don’t have to hide or be ashamed of it."

As societal and cultural tensions rise, Isaac warned, "As the day continues to get darker and darker and crazier and crazier — you standing up for what you believe is only going to get harder — but it’s only going to become more and more necessary."

Isaac made headlines in 2020 when he was the sole NBA player not to kneel in protest of the national anthem during the peak of the Black Lives Matter movement. Isaac credited his faith in Jesus Christ for bravely rejecting the BLM narrative.

Isaac is expected to launch his UNITUS brand this August.

The anti-woke brand comes at a time when conservatives have ignited several boycotts against companies pushing a woke agenda.

Bud Light, Target, and Koh'ls have faced recent boycotts over peddling progressive ideologies to consumers.

Legal scholar Jonathan Turley lays bare Democrats' constitutional ignorance in debt ceiling crisis

Constitutional law scholar Jonathan Turley over the weekend silenced Democrats urging President Joe Biden to use the 14th Amendment to end the debt ceiling crisis.

Progressive Democrats, upset that Biden negotiated with Republicans, want Biden to avert default by invoking a questionable legal maneuver: an obscure provision in the 14th Amendment ratified in the context of the post-Civil War America, which almost certainly was not designed to be used to override the statutory borrowing limit.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), for example, declared support for the maneuver at a town hall on Friday because she doesn't want any debt limit to exist.

Turley, a professor at the George Washington School of Law, responded by noting that Ocasio-Cortez's remarks are evidence that, despite being a lawmaker, she is deeply unfamiliar with basic constitutional law.

"AOC continues to show a striking unfamiliarity with the Constitution," he said.

“AOC continues to show a striking unfamiliarity with the Constitution in declaring "I still believe, first of all, that we should start to implement [the 14th Amendment] anyway because we should eliminate the debt limit in the United States."...https://t.co/vXYor0xniv”
— Jonathan Turley (@Jonathan Turley) 1685230794

To support his thesis, Turley explained that Ocasio-Cortez once questioned the existence of the Supreme Court, which is established by Article 3 of the Constitution. Moreover, not even Laurence Tribe, who excuses the possibility of Biden using the 14th Amendment, "is arguing that it would eliminate any debt limits," Turley added.

For his next Target, Turley knocked the "constitutional confusion" of Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.), who said last week the primary reason the 14th Amendment exists is to address national debt.

Fetterman's assertion "ignores a few other items like Equal Protection clause," Turley explained. Ignoring the Equal Protection clause is significant, after all, because it is one of the most cited legal doctrines.

Whether or not the 14th Amendment could even do what Democrats claim, invoking it will not avert the debt ceiling crisis. Instead, it will prolong the crisis while causing another over the legality of the maneuver — all without ever addressing the debt problem.

'You're gonna die!' Knife-wielding nut caught on video chasing journalist, threatening his life in front of numerous witnesses in Seattle

Journalist Jonathan Choe posted video of a knife-wielding man chasing him down several Seattle blocks in broad daylight in front of numerous witnesses Monday.

The perp apparently didn't appreciate Choe exposing rampant drug use downtown and began chasing the journalist, pulling a knife and threatening to kill Choe.

What are the details?

"I was doing my usual rounds, about to report some POSITIVE NEWS regarding the encampment sweep at 3rd Ave & Pike St this morning," Choe explained in text accompanying his Twitter video. "Mayor Bruce Harrell ... defending the corner from 'trap tents' that are set up consistently to sell drugs just a block away from City Hall. Most of these folks are not homeless people. Many live in the nearby [Downtown Emergency Service Center] buildings, hang out, and attract even more problems. As usual, I wanted to show the progress."

Choe added what happened next: "But one fella didn't want me pointing the camera at all the drug activity. So he pulled out a knife and started chasing me!"

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @choeshow

"He also threatened to kill me and hurled the N-word and racist Asian slurs in my direction," he also noted. "Witnesses called cops. But this maniac ended up tripping on the ground, ending the encounter."

He noted that he "did not wait around for police. Will be happy to provide [Seattle police] any information, but I know the agency is understaffed, so I will not bother filing a report. I think I'm gonna take a break from this hood for a while."

Here's the clip. Content warning: Knife-wielding dude repeatedly yells racial slurs and uses profanity:

LGBT official at one of Canada's largest school boards peddles claim that Jesus was 'a drag queen' on Good Friday

An LGBT activist who doubles as an official in one of Canada's biggest school boards was apparently careful to spare Muhammad and his followers offense during Ramadan, but sure to denigrate Jesus Christ during Holy Week.

Sara Savoia, Ottawa-Carleton District School Board's “Trans and Gender Diverse Student Support Coordinator,” reportedly tweeted on Good Friday, "Here's a reminder that Jesus himself was a radical activist... and a drag queen. And also not white. Happy Easter to all those celebrating!"

Accompanying Savoia's message was an illustration depicting Jesus speaking to children, which was captioned, "Oh look, it's a man in a dress telling stories to children."

Savoia — a female former teacher who provides plural pronouns and claims "Trans rights are non-negotiable" in her Twitter profile — has since locked her personal account (but not her OCDSB-affiliated "2sLGBTQ+" account), as she was met with significant backlash over her remarks.

Before Savoia hid her tweet history, Chanel Pfahl — the former MonAvenir Catholic School Board high school science teacher who was placed under investigation by the Ontario College of Teachers last year for opposing critical race theory — managed to snap a screenshot:

“Happy Easter everyone! 🐣

And a reminder from OCDSB’s gender consultant:”
— Chanel Pfahl 🇨🇦 (@Chanel Pfahl 🇨🇦) 1680927238

Dr. Aaron Rock, a pastor at Harvest Bible Church, told the conservative Canadian publication True North that "the very notion that (Jesus) dressed as a woman so he could entertain children is offensive to all Christians and unbecoming a public official."

Jesus' clothing, as depicted in the illustration, "matched with the Jewish customs of his day for men, as evidenced in the gambling away of his clothing to Roman soldiers at the foot of the cross," said Rock.

Rock added, "He is both 100% God, ensuring he lived his life on earth with absolute holiness, and 100% man, living his life in accordance with God’s creational design for a human male."

This is not the first time Savoia has tried to stick it to Christians, having previously called for the elimination of Catholic schools.

Catholics helped establish and found Canada with the guarantee that they could have their own separate school board. The Canadian Fathers of Confederation conceded that without this guarantee "being embodied in that new constitution, we should have been unable to obtain any Confederation whatever."

Despite this historic admission — that there would be no Canada without protection for Catholic schools — Savoia stressed in an October 2022 tweet that if Catholic schools maintain their traditional values, they should be eliminated.

"If that religion cannot change its practice of teaching children that there is something wrong with them because of their sexual orientation … then we should stop that religion from having a separate education system," wrote Savoia.

Jonathan Kay, an editor at Quillette, highlighted several other remarks Savoia made online, indicating she is not just antipathetic to orthodox Christianity but to biological realism as well.

In one instance, Savoia bragged about prompting grade five students to consider whether "2 trans ppl would be able to procreate. We listened to multiple stories including dads who carry the baby as he is the one who houses the uterus #SexEdisCritical."

Savoia noted in another tweet that "7/30 of my current Gr 4/5 students have talked to me re: their fluid gender & sexual identities. Do they feel comfortable because I implement Queer & Trans Education year round? Most likely. 'Bcuz they are seen, heard, & (as much as possible) understood."

Responding to a tweet from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which stated, "The right to choose is a woman's right and a woman's right alone. Every woman in Canada has a right to a safe and legal abortion," Savoia suggested that it was important to ensure "this statement is true and applicable to ALL people with vaginas. Not just self-identified womxn. #MenCanHaveBabiesToo."

“A few more of Sara Savoia's greatest hits”
— Jonathan Kay (@Jonathan Kay) 1681087529

True North reported that on "International Pronouns Day," Savoia encouraged teachers to discuss gender pronouns with elementary school students and to incorporate the exercise in indoctrination into arts and crafts.

Administrators of the OCDSB's "Equity Program" reportedly work with schools to "intervene" against "microaggressions against 2SLBTQ+ students," although it is unclear from the board's site whether similar interventions are made to stop anti-Christian bigotry.

Trans perp who admitted to vandalizing Catholic church, assaulting worker offered no-jail-time plea deal from Biden's DOJ

A transgender perpetrator who admitted to vandalizing a Catholic church and assaulting a worker was offered a plea deal from Biden's Department of Justice that recommended no jail time.

Maeve Nota, a 31-year-old individual who identifies as transgender, admitted to vandalizing St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue, Washington, by spray-painting graffiti, shattering doors, destroying a statue of the Virgin Mary, and assaulting a member of the church staff.

Nota spray-painted the outside of the church with profane and offensive messages, including "F*** Catholics," "rot in your fake hell," "kid groomers," "religion of hate," "rapists," and "woman haters."

Surveillance footage from the incident captured Nota kicking and smashing the two glass doors with a rock.

Nota attempted to flee the scene when followed by a church employee. Nota admitted to spray-painting the worker's face during the chase. The employee also reported being hit by a rock thrown by the vandal.

According to police, when authorities attempted to arrest Nota, who they stated appeared intoxicated, the perp used a backpack filled with spray-paint cans to smash the police cruiser.

At the time of the incident, Bellevue Police Captain Darryl McKinney stated that Nota's vandalism, estimated to have caused $100,000 in damages, would be considered a hate crime. As a result, authorities said Nota could face a felony charge for assault.

March court filings revealed that the DOJ charged Nota with the destruction of religious property, a misdemeanor that could result in a year in prison and up to $100,000 in fines.

However, a previously unreported plea agreement revealed that the DOJ offered Nota no jail time and three years of probation instead. Nota will be sentenced in June.

Mike Davis, founder of the Article III Project, told Fox News Digital, "It is very clear that the Biden Justice Department has politicized and weaponized the FACE Act to go after pro-life Christians praying outside of abortion clinics like Mark Houck while turning a blind eye to violent felons terrorizing and badly damaging Catholic churches like Maeve Nota."

Houck was arrested at gunpoint by the FBI after he shoved a Planned Parenthood "escort" who repeatedly tried to antagonize him and his son in October 2021.

"The Biden Justice Department tried to put Houck in prison for 11 years for defending his son while recommending no jail time for Nota after this deranged trans terrorist badly damaged a Catholic church, fought with the police, assaulted a church employee, and scared the hell out of a little old lady praying," Davis added.

The DOJ did not respond to a request for comment, Fox News Digital reported.

“CHURCH RAMPAGE UPDATE: Prosecutor's officially charged 31 year old Maeve Jacqueline Nota with a hate crime and assault in 4th degree, after she allegedly trashed St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue. Prosecutors asked for $25K bail. Nota will be back in court later this month.”

Legal scholar explains why report on Supreme Court leak is 'almost as chilling as the leak itself'

Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley explained Thursday why the Supreme Court's inability to find the person who leaked a court opinion is "almost as chilling as the leak itself."

What did the Supreme Court say?

After eight months of investigating, Supreme Court Marshal Gail Curley was unable to discover who leaked the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization opinion, according to a report.

The investigation included more than 100 interviews with court employees, uncovering that several employees broke confidentiality rules by telling their spouses the outcome of the case. But a forensic examination — including of court "computer devices, networks, printers and available call and text logs" — failed to uncover who gave Politico a copy of the opinion.

Curley's report provides suggestions to tighten security at the court, but also suggests that no one will be held accountable for the stunning leak.

What did Turley say?

The stunning lack of answers will lead people to say, according to Turley, that the FBI should have investigated the leak.

"The Supreme Court's report indicates that they cannot isolate the culprit among the over 80 possible suspects for the Dobbs leak. It is an admission that is almost as chilling as the leak itself," Turley wrote in a viral response. "It will likely revive concerns over whether the FBI should have been asked to take the lead on the investigation.

After all, the Supreme Court is situated "only a few blocks from the world's leading forensic investigatory body," Turley noted.

“...It will likely revive concerns over whether the FBI should have been asked to take the lead on the investigation. The Court is only a few blocks from the world's leading forensic investigatory body...”
— Jonathan Turley (@Jonathan Turley) 1674157385

Considering the lack of digital forensic evidence, Turley predicted leaks will become more commonplace, especially with the erosion of ethical principles that previously kept employees from divulging information.

"In this age of rage, this danger will only grow. Someone felt that they had license to leak. Some others may now feel that they have the impunity to do so," he predicted.

Legal scholar posts viral rebuttal to Jean-Pierre's claim that Biden is being 'transparent' about classified docs

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre repeatedly claimed last week the Biden administration has been "transparent" about several discoveries of classified documents that President Joe Biden improperly retained.

But according to George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley, the only thing Jean-Pierre has been "transparent" about is a refusal "to answer questions."

What did Turley say?

The constitutional scholar published a viral Twitter thread on Friday about the Biden administration's secrecy.

"It is increasingly painful to watch Karine Jean-Pierre as she argues that they have been 'transparent' by being transparently unwilling to answer any questions," Turley wrote.

"Nothing prevents the White House from answering basic questions about the scandal," he explained. "It will not undermine the Justice Department for the White House to confirm the President's position and recollection. The silence protects the President not the investigation."

“...Nothing prevents the White House from answering basic questions about the scandal. It will not undermine the Justice Department for the White House to confirm the President's position and recollection. The silence protects the President not the investigation...”
— Jonathan Turley (@Jonathan Turley) 1673634544

According to Turley, the reaction of the Biden administration — refusing to answer basic questions about the discoveries of classified documents" — only serves to protect Biden, not inform the American people.

"The White House has already stated that the documents were inadvertently removed but refuses to answer questions on the basis or meaning of that defense," Turley said.

"I can understand the desire of a criminal defense attorney for Biden to remain silent," he added. "However, the refusal to answer basic questions is not to protect the 'independence of the Justice Department' or the investigation. It [sic] meant to protect the President as an individual."

What about KJP?

NBC News reported on Friday that Democratic strategists believe the Biden adminstration "should consider is naming a dedicated person to field questions about the documents" to take heat off of Jean-Pierre.

"The White House should consider appointing a separate spokesperson to handle all questions related to this matter," one Democratic strategist, Karen Finney, who served in the Clinton administration, told NBC. "If someone else is handling questions related to that matter, you still have a press briefing where you’re able to communicate the issues of the day that you’re trying to get out."

Women protest transgender athlete inclusion at NCAA convention, threaten to sue if changes aren't made

Women including former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines protested the inclusion of male-to-female transgender athletes in sports outside the NCAA convention, handing over a petition and threatening legal action, according to Yahoo News.

Gaines, who famously spoke out against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, took to the forefront of the group of a reported two dozen demonstrators.

“Today, we intend to personally tell the NCAA to stop discriminating against female athletes by handing them a petition that we have garnered nearly 10,000 signatures on in just a couple of days,” said Gaines.

Other guests included Marshi Smith, former NCAA athlete and co-founder of the Independent Council on Women’s Sports. Smith outlined demands from the council, which were sent in a letter to the NCAA's legal team.

The letter reads:

"To avoid legal action, the NCAA must comply with civil rights law immediately by:

 • Repealing all policies and rules that allow male athletes to take roster spots on women’s teams and/or compete in women’s events;
 • Establishing and enforcing rules to keep women’s sports female;
 • Requiring colleges to provide single-sex locker rooms for female athletes."
Another speaker was a high school student who claimed that she was suspended when she spoke out against a male student changing in the girls' locker room, with the school even stopping all the females from using the changing room after complaints.
“Female athlete Blake Allen protested a male being allowed to undress in her girls locker room and when she protested, the school stopped all of the girls from using the locker room. She’s fighting back as an @ADFLegal client.”
— Jonathan Saenz (@Jonathan Saenz) 1673538823

The NCAA held a session on the topic during the convention, speaking in detail on the subject.

Ivy League executive director Robin Harris said the NCAA wants to "have an environment that is fair, welcoming and inclusive for all of (the athletes),” adding that the eligibility requirements for transgender athletes are the same as for other athletes.

NCAA director of inclusion Jean Merrill stated that transgender athletes are indeed "playing by the rules.”

The session also saw a former transgender athlete give commentary; Schuyler Bailar is a swimmer who switched from female swimming to male swimming at Harvard.

"The more we learn about bodies and biology and people and the more we understand diversity and equity and inclusion,” Bailar remarked.

Bailar also supported a policy that would see the NCAA not holding competitions in states that ban transgender athletes in women's sports, adding, "If you’re asking me do I want more support for trans people? The answer is going to be absolutely yes."

The NCAA officials accepted the petition from Riley Gaines outside the convention.

Whoopi Goldberg tries damage control over 'incredibly ignorant' Holocaust comments — but people aren't buying it

Whoopi Goldberg apologized Tuesday after once again making eyebrow-raising comments about the Holocaust that generated intense backlash.

This is not the first time Goldberg faced criticism for controversial remarks about the Holocaust. In February, Goldberg was temporarily suspended from "The View" after she declared the Holocaust was "not about race."

What did Goldberg say?

In an interview with the Times of London, Goldberg downplayed the racial component of the Holocaust. First, she relayed an anecdote from an alleged Jewish friend.

"My best friend said, ‘Not for nothing is there no box on the census for the Jewish race. So that leads me to believe that we’re probably not a race,'" Goldberg told the newspaper.

When challenged on her claims, Goldberg then insisted that the Holocaust was not "originally" about the Jewish race and appeared to criticize Jews for having believed what Nazis, whom she called "the oppressor," told Jews about themselves.

"Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical," Goldberg claimed. "They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision."

Goldberg doubled down when the reporter interviewing her then reminded her the Nazi regime develop tests to "prove" Jewish ancestry.

"They did that to black people too," Goldberg responded. "But it doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them."

What was the response?

Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, sharply condemned Goldberg's "deeply offensive and incredibly ignorant" remarks in a statement on Tuesday.

"Whoopi Goldberg’s comments about the Holocaust and race are deeply offensive and incredibly disappointing, especially given that this is not the first time she had made remarks like this," Greenblatt said. "In a moment when anti-Semitic incidents have surged across the U.S., she should realize that making such ignorant statements can have real consequences."

The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, meanwhile, responded by tweeting a passage from a letter that Adolf Hitler wrote in 1919. In that letter, Hitler declared that "Jews are definitely a race," condemning them as an "alien race, unable and unwilling to sacrifice its racial distinctiveness."

“Excerpt from Adolf Hitler’s letter on ‘the dangers currently presented by Jewry to our nation’ from 16 September 1919.

This text is one of the first major statements made by Hitler with regard to the Jewish question.”
— Auschwitz Memorial (@Auschwitz Memorial) 1672080884

Did Goldberg apologize?

Goldberg claimed in a statement on Tuesday that her words were essentially taken out of context, saying she was only recounting the comments that earned her a suspension — not doubling down on them.

The statement said, according to Rolling Stone:

It was never my intention to appear as if I was doubling down on hurtful comments, especially after talking with and hearing people like rabbis and old and new friends weighing in. I’m still learning a lot and believe me, I heard everything everyone said to me. I believe that the Holocaust was about race, and I am still as sorry now as I was then that I upset, hurt and angered people.

My sincere apologies again, especially to everyone who thought this was a fresh rehash of the subject. I promise it was not. In this time of rising antisemitism, I want to be very clear when I say that I always stood with the Jewish people and always will. My support for them has not wavered and never will.

Greenblatt, however, did not buy the excuse.

"We appreciate Whoopi’s apology and acknowledgment of the hurt her words caused," he responded. "But this is the 2nd time she's made spurious and offensive remarks about the Holocaust and race, and after reading @thetimes interview, it’s hard to imagine her words were being taken out of context."
