MSNBC host disparages own children on live TV for refusing COVID vaccine boosters: 'Shocked and appalled'

MSNBC commentator Katty Kay criticized her own children on air Thursday, condemning them for skipping additional COVID-19 vaccine booster shots.

Speaking with Dr. Zeke Emanuel as a guest host on "Morning Joe," Kay admitted that she was "shocked and appalled" when her children, ages 22 and 16, informed her they would not be getting any additional COVID booster shots.

"I listen to that doctor and you hear how tough it is in the hospitals at the moment, and the fears of new variants, mixed with flu, that is coming on," Kay began. "You would think that the country would respond by saying, 'OK, we will make sure we are all up to date on all of our vaccines.'

"But I had a strange conversation with my 22-year-old and my 16-year-old last night, and I said, 'OK, I booked you in for COVID updates, you're both back for holidays, you're going to get your boosters.' And both of them said, 'No, we don't want to. We've had enough vaccines, and we don't think we need them,'" she continued.

"I was shocked and appalled," Kay admitted.

“MSNBC's Katty Kay said she was "shocked and appalled" when her kids, 22 and 16, told her they did not want to get any more COVID boosters.

"Is this the kind of response you’re seeing from young people...they think this is over and they don’t need any more vaccines?””
— Julio Rosas (@Julio Rosas) 1672337671

At first, Dr. Emanuel appeared to share Kay's sentiment, observing that "young people think that they're invincible."

"There are only two things that really can prevent transmission of the COVID virus. One is a good mask, an N95 mask and wearing it, especially in crowded situations, on airplanes and transportation, and the other is better indoor ventilation," he went on to say. "Unfortunately, we’ve gotten to a situation where neither of them seem to be a very high priority to reduce the transmission. And I think that’s where we’re at."

But Dr. Emanuel ultimately condemned people for placing too much emphasis on vaccines.

"Putting every emphasis on vaccines is not going to solve this problem," he declared.

Brother of Marine killed in Afghanistan withdrawal commits suicide at memorial for fallen soldier

The older brother of a U.S. Marine who was killed during the tumultuous U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan last August has reportedly committed suicide at the memorial for the fallen soldier.

On Aug. 26, 2021, a suicide bombing killed 13 U.S. service members and 170 Afghan citizens during the U.S. evacuation at the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.

One of the American soldiers murdered was Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, 20, from Norco, California.

Fox News reported that Nikoui's older brother – 28-year-old Dakota Halverson – "died by suicide during a recent memorial service for the fallen service member."

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said that Dakota Halverson died on Aug. 9, but did not provide more details.

Rep. Mike Garcia (R-Calif.) reacted to the tragic news, "Every service member we lose leaves behind a hole in their families, their communities, and our nation. The 13 heroes we lost last year in Afghanistan are no different, and I’m heartbroken to hear about the loss of Dakota. My prayers are with his family."

Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla) stated, "The older brother of one of the 13 KIA in Kabul recently killed himself at his little brother’s memorial. Please pray for his family. There MUST be accountability for this continued carnage."

Townhall writer Julio Rosas shared a Facebook post from Shana Chappell – the mother of the two deceased men.

"The month of August has been very hard so far with the one year coming up," Chappell wrote. "I look at my kids as strong and like they can handle anything. That was my mistake."

"My son Dakota has been talking a lot lately about how he just wants to be with Kareem, how much he misses him, etc.... We all feel that way so I didn't see the signs," she continued.

"This morning my son Dakota went to be with His brother Kareem," Chappell announced.

“Heartbreaking: Shana Chappell, who lost her son LCpl. Kareem Nikoui in the attack during the Afghanistan evacuation last year, announced her son Dakota died this morning. Link to the GoFundMe she set up: https://t.co/bLWPpFgHty

#SuicideAwareness”
— Julio Rosas (@Julio Rosas) 1660098287

A GoFundMe campaign was launched for donations towards Halverson's funeral.

"Dakota Halverson was a loving son, brother, and friend," the description of the crowdfunding campaign read. "Losing his brother nearly one year ago has proven too difficult to bear."

"Any donations for his burial and services would be greatly appreciated as he wanted to be buried next to his brother Kareem, who was killed August 26th, 2021, while serving his country," the listing said.

Chappell has been an outspoken critic of President Joe Biden and the deadly U.S. evacuation from Afghanistan that took the life of her son.

Last August, Chappell bashed Biden after meeting with the president.

Chappell slammed Biden in a Facebook post, "MY SONS BLOOD IS ON YOUR HANDS!!! All 13 of them, their blood is on your hands!!!! If my President Trump was in his rightful seat then my son and the other [heroes] would still be alive!!!!"

Chicago police attacked with fireworks in violent 4th of July weekend; 54 shot, 7 killed by gunfire

Violent groups attacked Chicago police vehicles in at least two incidents over the holiday weekend, injuring one officer.

In the first incident on Saturday night, a rowdy crowd attacked Chicago police squad cars. The crowd kicked the vehicle doors, jumped on the hoods, and punched the windshields, according to WBBM-TV.

Chicago police said an officer was traveling in a marked patrol car in the area when an object struck the vehicle, shattering the windshield. The officer was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Additional officers were called to the scene for backup. No arrests were made.

A second attack happened early Monday morning, when fireworks were shot at Chicago police vehicles.

Towhnall senior writer Julio Rosas, who was in Chicago reporting on violence over Independence Day weekend, shared video of a crowd launching fireworks at cop cars as they slowly backed away at an intersection.

Individuals can bee seen kicking the police vehicle in the video as it retreats.

“Towards the end of the video, you can see a firework land on the hood of a CPD vehicle. The vehicle sustained damage, including: broken headlights, windshield shattered, and damage to the hood. Officers were inside the vehicle.”
— Julio Rosas (@Julio Rosas) 1656798142

There have been no reported arrests from the second incident and no officers were harmed.

Chicago police increased their presence in city neighborhoods for an expected surge in violence over the long weekend. At least 54 people were shot, seven fatally, over 4th of July holiday weekend, WLS-TV reported.

There were 22 people shot on Friday alone, four of them killed. Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown pleaded with parents to keep track of their children amid the violence.

"There's no reason why everyone can't enjoy the holiday and every event safely. Parents, please, please know where your children are," Brown said, according to Fox News. "Don't leave them to government to be the parents of your kids. We need you, parents, please, to help us make sure your young people are safe."

Victims of the deadly shootings include a 24-year-old woman who was caught in the crossfire between two gunmen and a 26-year-old man who was killed in a drive-by shooting while he was riding a bike.

The youngest victim of the weekend violence was a 10-year-old boy who was wounded by bullets inside of his own home. The boy was sitting inside his bedroom when gunfire struck his house, hitting him in the buttocks and in an ankle. He was taken to the University of Chicago Comers Children's Hospital in good condition, police said.

Last year, 19 people were killed and more than 100 people were shot in Chicago while the country celebrated Independence Day.

Uvalde mayor fires off blunt message to 'haters' who don't like how he handled Beto O'Rourke: 'To hell with you, too'

The mayor of Uvalde, Texas, fired back at critics on Wednesday who condemned his reaction to Democrat Beto O'Rourke interrupting a press conference about the Ross Elementary School massacre.

What is the background?

As Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) was finishing a press conference about the massacre, O'Rourke, who was sitting in the audience, interrupted the governor and shouted about the necessity of gun control.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) told O'Rourke to "sit down," while Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick told O'Rourke that he was "out of line" and called the former Democratic congressman an "embarrassment."

The most stinging rebuke came from Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin (R), who told security they needed to remove O'Rourke before describing him as a "sick son of a b****."

The incident, which went viral on social media, drew partisan reaction. Gun control advocates praised O'Rourke for "speaking truth to power." But critics of O'Rourke condemned him for using the tragedy to score political points with his base. O'Rourke is running for governor of Texas.

What is McLaughlin saying now?

The Republican mayor told a reporter late Wednesday that he reacted negatively to O'Rourke's outburst because the venue and circumstances were inappropriate for a discussion about gun control.

"If they want to have that discussion, that's fine. But that event today was not the place or the time to come in there and attack the governor or anybody else there," McLaughlin said. "If [O'Rourke] wants to have that discussion, have it outside somewhere separate. But not in that building where we're trying to give the people there [an update about the tragedy]."

"This community is broken right now. No community should have to go through what we've been through in this community, and for a person to come in there and start that crap — I have no respect for Beto," he continued.

"And the haters that hate, that send me the emails and the texts, to hell with you, too," McLaughlin said bluntly.

“Don McLaughlin, mayor of Uvalde, on @BetoORourke crashing the press conference earlier today: “That event today was not the place or the time…I have no respect for Beto and the haters who hate…to hell with you too.””
— Julio Rosas (@Julio Rosas) 1653529263

McLaughlin's concluding message for O'Rourke is that what he did was "wrong" because it further stoked the flames of partisan division.

"I don't care if you're a Democrat, a Republican, an independent, we're American people — we're trying to come together as a community," McLaughlin said. "To do what you did today at that press conference was wrong. I'm sorry, but it was wrong."

CNN guest's appearance goes viral as he delivers hysterical rant on the need to control unfettered free speech

Journalist and author David Zurawik appeared on Sunday's broadcast of "Reliable Sources," where he went into panic mode as he delivered frenzied remarks on what he said is the necessity of being able to moderate free speech.

Sunday's roundtable discussion on the CNN show featured host Brian Stelter, reporter April Ryan, Zurawik, and more.

What are the details?

During the episode, Zurawik addressed Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's Twitter acquisition, which he said is nothing short of "dangerous."

"When we focus on the personality of people like Elon Musk ... there's a bigger problem about how we are going to control the channels of communication in this country," he warned. "In 1927, we had the Radio Act. In 1934, the Communications Act. Congress stepped in; we made rules."

The Federal Communications Commission, he added, "wasn't great, but it is still regulating the broadcast industry."

"We gave over our what amounts to our airwaves, or our internet waves, to Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, and we are in so much trouble," Zurawik insisted. "Because those guys believe in making money. We've already seen that with the 2016 election and Zuckerberg when he was taking rubles for ads from Russia and saying, 'Oh I think it's crazy to think that they had any influence on this election.'"

Musk, he added, is the much the same — and that the United States has quickly descended into chaos following the election of former President Donald Trump.

"This is dangerous!" he shouted. "We can't think any more in this country — we don't have people ... in Congress who can make regulations that can make it work. I think we can look to the Western countries in Europe for how they are trying to limit it, but you need — you need — controls on this. You need regulation. You cannot let these guys control discourse in this country or we are headed to hell. We are there. Trump opened the gates of hell and now they’re chasing us down."

Antifa rioters break windows at Democrat HQ in Portland, spray-paint 'F*** BIDEN!' messages

Antifa rioters attacked the headquarters of the Democratic Party in Portland, Oregon, and left anti-Joe Biden messages on the day of his inauguration in Washington, D.C.

About a hundred protesters dressed in black marched in a demonstration against police on Wednesday before vandalizing the Democratic office.

KOIN-TV reported that the protesters attacked police after several officers tried to take weapons away from the crowd. The rioters threw objects at the police officers and they responded by deploying a smoke canister.

Other videos from the protest on social media showed the attack as it happened. Some rioters had a difficult time breaking the windows.

Rioters spray-painted “F*** BIDEN" at the building.

The rioting appeared to be planned well in advance, as demonstrated by flyers advertising the event days earlier.

Other videos from the protest documented that the Antifa demonstrators were anti-Biden and also anti-police.

Police said eight people were arrested and the charges ranged from criminal mischief to possession of a destructive device to riot and reckless burning.

A statement from the Democratic Party of Oregon said officials would not be deterred by the recurring vandalism from left-wing mobs.

"This is not the first time our building has been vandalized during the past year," the statement read, "none of the prior incidents have deterred us from our important work to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, and this one will be no different."

Similar violence was documented from Antifa rioters in Portland after the election in November.

KOIN reported that many owners of businesses in downtown Portland were bracing for possible outbreaks of violence from left-wing rioters in the evening. Some businesses were boarded up and many employees were told to work from home.

BREAKING: Hundreds of Trump supporters breach barricades, fight with police outside US Capitol

Hundreds of Trump supporters breached security barricades and stormed up to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., as both chambers of Congress convened to affirm the Electoral College votes cast in the 2020 election Wednesday afternoon.

Thousands had travelled from out of state to gather in Washington in protest of the election, which President Trump and his allies have maintained was fraudulent.

Things appeared to carry on peacefully earlier in the day, but as the joint session of Congress kicked off in the early afternoon, a large group of individuals appeared to storm through outer barricades surrounding the Capitol Building, where lawmakers deliberated inside.

Video posted to Twitter by Washington Post reporter Rebecca Tan showed Trump supporters approaching the rear of the building.

Then, BlazeTV reporter Elijah Schaeffer posted video as the group reached the outside of the building and were confronted by police.

"Trump supporters have breached the Capitol building, tearing down 4 layers of security fencing and are attempting to occupy the building — fighting federal police who are overrun," he tweeted. "This is the craziest thing I've ever seen in my life. Thousands, police can't stop them."

It is unclear at this point if the storming of the Capitol was a coordinated or impromptu event. Interestingly, a paper notice found in the National Mall indicated that "a national militia" was being organized to "defend the Constitution and the Republic." However, there is no evidence connecting the movement from the crowd with the notice.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

'Stop the Steal' rally turns bloody after four stabbed and in critical condition; counterprotests incite chaos in DC

There were several pro-Trump rallies held in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, including the "March for Trump" and the "Stop the Steal" rally in support of challenging the 2020 presidential election results. In retaliation, at least three anarchist and Antifa-linked groups planned counterprotests in the nation's capital, including the "F*** MAGA" protest. The clashing groups clashed on the streets of D.C., which resulted in four people being stabbed and nearly two dozen arrests.

The large protests in support of President Donald Trump were mostly peaceful, but violent skirmishes erupted on Saturday night between the adversarial groups.

Elderly Trump supporter attacked, protesters shoot fireworks at diners, surround hotel of Million MAGA March attendees

Thousands of Trump supporters gathered in Washington, D.C., on Saturday for the Million MAGA March. The first hours of the rally for President Donald Trump was a peaceful protest. Then counterprotesters entered the area by mid-afternoon. Right before nightfall, there were numerous attacks on Trump supporters, including an assault of a multiracial family and one man was knocked out. The violence against Trump supporters only grew as the massive crowds from the "Stop the Steal" rally diminished and the sun set.

A swarm of counterprotesters surrounded and harassed an elderly couple holding a Trump flag in Washington, D.C. Some in the group were holding signs for Refuse Fascism, a self-described "national movement organizing to drive out the Trump/Pence regime."
