11-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting aunt who was reportedly his guardian

11-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting aunt who was reportedly his guardian

An 11-year-old Florida boy is now in custody, having been accused of a truly heinous crime: fatally shooting the woman who has taken care of him for almost his entire life.

Just before 8 a.m. on Friday, police responded to a call about a shooting at a residence in Ocoee, Florida, about 10 miles northwest of Orlando. Neighbors had heard screaming, and when police arrived at the home on Idaho Court, they found 55-year-old Sandra Pape King shot and clinging to life.

'He had a little tantrum here and there. I figure that was normal for a kid his age.'

A report from WESH indicated neighbors had found her in the front yard of the home, and TV footage showed her purse, which was still laying on the ground. However, a statement from the Ocoee Police Department claimed she had "had been shot inside the home."

In any case, first responders raced King to Advent Health Apopka, where she later died from her injuries. It is unclear how many times she had been shot.

Officers almost immediately honed in on a suspect: the 11-year-old boy who lived with King. The boy appeared in court on Saturday.

Members of the boy's family also attended the hearing, and at least one of them seemed sympathetic to the boy's circumstances. A woman, who described herself as King's daughter and the boy's cousin, asked the court to allow her and other relatives to visit the boy at the juvenile detention facility where he is currently being housed.

"He doesn’t understand what’s going on. I don’t even think he knows he killed her," she told the court. She also explained that King had been the boy's "guardian since he was 6 weeks old."

The court granted her request. The boy will remain in custody until his next hearing, though the date of that hearing is unknown.

Meanwhile, those who know King from the neighborhood are still reeling with shock over her violent death. One local resident admitted the boy is "a little thin" and may have gotten "caught up with his aunt," but still couldn't believe the boy is believed to have killed her.

Another neighbor, Jackson Genao, is likewise bewildered. "He seemed like any other child, you know. You see, he had a little tantrum here and there. I figure that was normal for a kid his age, you know. I have two daughters his age, so I didn’t think nothing of it," he said.

Neighbor Gerald Ingram called the entire situation "heartbreaking."

The boy's attorney declined to comment. Ocoee police claim the investigation into the case remains "active and ongoing."

'Void of humanity': Las Vegas police arrest 8 teens over savage beating that resulted in death of 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis

Eight teens have been arrested in connection with the beating death of 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis near his Las Vegas high school on Nov. 1. Undersheriff Andrew Walsh of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department revealed in a press conference Tuesday that the suspects will be charged with murder.

Walsh further indicated that the investigation into Lewis' slaying is far from over, calling on parents and students who may have seen the video to help identify others in the mob who mercilessly kicked, stomped, and punched Lewis as he tried to get away.

Lt. Jason Johansson of the LVMPD's homicide section indicated that the fatal beating took place in an alley one block east of Rancho High School after classes let out. All involved in the incident were reportedly students from the school.

"As you know, the video that has been shared widely on social media ... is very graphic and in my opinion is very void of humanity," said Johansson. "What you see in the video though is approximately 10 subjects kicking, stomping, and punching our victim Jonathan as he's on the ground, not defending himself, until the point at where he becomes unconscious."

KVVU-TV previously reported that police found a student who was "battered and bleeding from the head."

According to police, the fight was initially over a pair of stolen wireless headphones and possibly also over a stolen vape pen, apparently taken earlier in the week from the victim's friend.

"After school let out, all parties then walked to that back alley where — as you see in the video — our victim removes his clothing, engages in a fight initially with one subject, and the minute the punch is thrown with that person, 10 subjects immediately swarm him," said Johansson.

After the mob overtook Lewis and left him with "non-survivable head trauma," Johansson said a concerned citizen found the victim's crumpled and unresponsive body lying in the alley, began attending to him, then carried him back to the school. He was subsequently taken to University Medical Center, where days later he perished.

Lewis' cause of death was ruled a homicide. Police suggested there is presently no evidence to suggest that it was a hate crime.

The Clark County School District and the high school reportedly helped identify the eight suspects, who were taken into custody by law enforcement officials Tuesday morning. LVMPD also executed nine search warrants at various residences, obtaining clothing allegedly worn by the suspects during the attack.

The suspects range in age from 13 to 17. All were booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall on charges of murder.

"The case will now be turned over to the Clark County District Attorney's Office, who we've been in close coordination with," continued Johansson. "We'll go through the normal steps ... for them to be certified as an adult."

Las Vegas has seen other teens charged as adults in recent weeks for ghastly murders.

Jzamir Keys, 16, and Jesus Ayala, 18, were both charged as adults in connection to the fatal rundown of 64-year-old retired police chief Andreas Probst. Ayala and Keys appear to have filmed parts of their rampage, including when they allegedly drove a white sedan off the road, then targeted Probst, the former police chief of Bell, California, for slaughter, giggling while doing so.

"I want to say just as a parent and as a member of this community, the video that's out there and the videos that we have mentioned throughout this investigation and that you've seen reported in the media, they're extremely disturbing," said Undersheriff Walsh. "And this should be a reminder to all of us to have those difficult conversations with our children and remind them that their actions have consequences, their actions have lasting consequences, their actions have life-altering consequences."

All 9 juveniles who escaped from detention center after riot in Pennsylvania captured

Nine inmates escaped from a detention center in Pennsylvania following a riot Sunday, but all have since been apprehended. The brevity of the manhunt — which comes just weeks after a murderous illegal alien broke out of a Pennsylvania prison — was the result not only of a quick response on the part of law enforcement but also some of the escapees' apparent lack of fortitude.

"It probably was planned, but poorly planned," said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper David Beohm, reported the Associated Press.

The motley crew, ages ranging between 15 and 17, made their escape from Abraxas Academy, a youth detention center in Morgantown that deals with delinquents known for their "habitual offending behaviors or for a history of sexual offending behavior," according to its website.

A riot erupted at the facility Sunday, affording some inmates a distraction that they immediately seized upon.

The Caernarvon Township Police Department noted at 9:27 p.m. that state and local law enforcement had restored order at the academy; however, the facility was then short nine inmates.

Authorities indicated that the inmates had broken free after overtaking two female guards and stealing their keys, reported ABC News.

"They were able to get the keys and then they were able to get out the side door, or one of the doors," said Beohm.

The Robeson Township Police Department issued an alert Sunday evening, notifying anyone in the area of Interstate 176 and Route 10 to "be vigilant," adding that the escapees were all wearing white and grey shirts and shorts.

Boehm said that four rogues were taken into custody just before 6 a.m. on Monday after having "basically given up."

"They were done, they were tired, they were cold," said the trooper.

Unable to hack the cold and lack of sleep, the first group of escapees knocked on the door of a random home on Oak Grove Road in Morgantown and surrendered.

The remaining five who had not been so quickly defeated by the prospect of discomfort took off in a stolen truck.

Police indicated that at least two cars had been broken into.

Troopers chased the truck down and bagged four of the inmates. The fifth managed to flee into a nearby field on foot, but he too was hunted down and captured alive.

All nine were picked up within four miles of Abraxas Academy.

Beohm indicated that all nine, who came in "pretty weary looking and dirty," will be charged with escape. Additional charges may also be applied where applicable.

"We're going to interview all nine of them," said Beohm. "I know there's stuff in the works right now to decide where they are going to go after that takes place."

Abraxas Academy is no stranger to riots or the expressions of concern by locals.

A riot broke out at the facility involving 50 teenagers on July 4, reported CNN.

"We’re concerned. We’re concerned that this institution which houses our most serious juvenile offenders who’ve been accused of a crime or convicted of a crime – they have to be able to maintain control," said Berks County District Attorney John Adams.

Wisconsin’s Democrat Governor Appointed A Violent Felon To The State Juvenile Justice Commission

Only when members of the media began asking questions about the appointment did Evers rescind it.

16-year-old Chicago girl charged with 4 carjackings, all at gunpoint, driving off with a young child in back seat

A 16-year-old girl in Chicago, Illinois, has been charged with carjacking four separate drivers at gunpoint earlier this year, police announced on Thursday, adding that on another occasion, the juvenile offender even made off with a vehicle while a 7-year-old girl was still inside.

In a press release, the Chicago Police Department reported that officers arrested the juvenile Wednesday on the Lower West Side and charged her with four felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and one count of felony restraint.

Police listed the dates and locations of the crimes as well as the ages and genders of the victims.

In one incident that took place March 24, the girl allegedly carjacked a 60-year-old woman. The three other incidents took place within the span of four days between Feb. 18 and 21 and involved three male victims between the ages of 27 and 37 years old.

The defendant's identity has not been released due to her young age. Police said she was taken into custody without incident and is now awaiting a court date.

WMAQ-TV reported that the unlawful restraint occurred on Feb. 27 in Bridgeport when the suspect hopped in a running vehicle and drove off with a 7-year-old girl still sitting in the back seat. Citing police, the outlet said the suspect abandoned the vehicle a short time later on Archer Ave. with the child inside and unharmed.

The alarming news comes as juvenile violent crime continues to soar in Democratic-controlled cities across the country. Armed carjackings, in particular, have been on the rise in places like Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.

Local Chicago station WBBM-TV reported last October that during the first several months of 2021, more than half of carjacking arrests in the city were of individuals 17 years old or younger. Moreover, police struggled mightily to arrest carjackers in the first place, lodging just a 6% arrest rate.

In an attempt to understand what was driving the crime spike, WBBM sat down with a handful of teen carjackers to conduct anonymous interviews.

One of the interviewees, a 16-year-old girl, bragged to the station that she had committed at least six carjackings in recent months, but giggling, said she wasn't sure because she doesn't keep count.

The girl added that her gender is an advantage for her since people "wouldn't probably expect a younger-aged female to be out here carjacking."

She is likely not the same person as the other 16-year-old recently arrested, though, since her weapon of choice is a knife and not a gun.

15-year-old boy in DC arrested for allegedly committing 3 armed robberies in 8 minutes

Police in Washington, D.C., have arrested a 15-year-old boy who they say is responsible for going on a violent and extremely rapid crime spree in the nation's capital earlier this year.

The juvenile male, who has not been identified by law enforcement on account of his age, is suspected of committing three armed robberies — including a carjacking — in roughly eight minutes in January.

In a news release, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department claimed the boy didn't act alone and that detectives are still searching for additional suspects in the crime spree.

In each of the three incidents, the gang of suspected offenders approached victims brandishing handguns and threatening injury before making off with several personal items, which included four iPhones and a Hyundai Sonata sedan.

After committing the first two robberies, the suspects fled the scene and quickly moved on to commit another armed robbery.

According to police, the crimes took place on Jan. 23. The first occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. near 14th and T Street, Northwest; the second at 1:24 p.m. on the 1800 block of 10th Street, Northwest; and the third at 1:28 p.m. on the 1500 block of 8th Street, Northwest.

The juvenile male from southeast D.C. was reportedly arrested and taken into custody on Thursday, April 21. It was not immediately clear what charges he would face.

The news comes as juvenile crimes continue to plague Washington, D.C., and many other communities around the country.

In the nation's capital, youth carjackings in particular have been on the rise over the last year.

Last March, a botched carjacking that resulted in the gruesome death of an elderly Uber Eats driver drew national headlines after it was discovered that the culprits were a 13-year-old girl and 15-year-old girl.

The girls reportedly used at least one stun gun in attempt to seize the car. They struggled with the victim, 66-year-old Mohammad Anwar, swerving through the streets, but eventually struck a curb, sending Anwar flying from the vehicle. The man's death was caught on video.

At least on this case, it appears that law enforcement is hoping to clamp down on juvenile perpetrators of violent crimes.

Police have requested the public's help in identifying additional suspects in the January armed robbery incidents and are offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Juveniles — one as young as 12 — violently assault woman in Boston after calling her a 'white b***h with braids'

Five juveniles in Boston, Massachusetts, have been arrested and charged for violently assaulting a 20-year-old woman near the city's Downtown Crossing Monday afternoon.

The broad daylight beatdown came as authorities continue to report soaring crime in the area, especially among juveniles. In fact, according to WCVB-TV, police were already responding to an assault and battery at a nearby Macy's when they received calls about a huge street fight involving roughly 20 teenagers.

When police arrived on the scene, they found the mob of teenagers kicking and punching a woman while she was on the ground. The victim, who sustained a head injury and "appeared to be in distress and highly animated," later told officers that she was attacked because of her hair.

According to a police report seen by Mass Live, the woman told officers that she had been standing at the intersection of Winter Street and Washington Street when a group of girls approached her and demeaned her as a "white bitch with braids."

She reportedly told the group that she identifies as Hispanic and started to walk away. But moments later, one of the teens chased after her and pulled her down by her hair. Several others then allegedly joined in on the attack.

Part of the assault was caught on cellphone video. It shows at least five individuals surrounding the unidentified woman and kicking her as she tries to defend herself.

Witnesses of the attack said it came out of nowhere.

"She came flying in on her bike around here, and just 15 of them chasing her and beating the crap out of the girl. All of them," Chris Jackson, who works in the area, said in an interview with WCVB. "They took off with her bag, her cellphone, whatever else they had that she had dropped. She got up and had no idea what was going on."

"It was baffling, honestly. It was incredible to see that because I've never seen any type of thing like that in my life, ever," Julie Mendez, who manages the nearby City Smoke Shop, added. "They were trying to take her bags, so I was trying to grab them so they wouldn't take her bags. It was just insane."

Following the attack, the victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for further evaluation and is expected to fully recover.

Police reportedly identified and arrested five suspects — four females and one male — using the video. All five of the suspects are under the age of 15, and one is as young as 12, according to police.

The male suspect reportedly spit at police while he was being arrested. Meanwhile, another suspect punched an officer and yet another suspect pulled a female officer's hair out of her braid and knocked her glasses off during her arrest.

In the police report, officers note that the Downtown Crossing area has been the scene of a "barrage of juvenile incidents" in recent weeks and months. Teenagers have reportedly been fighting on the streets, smashing store windows, and assaulting officers and other members of the public.

Just last month, a group of four teenagers assaulted an 81-year-old man at a McDonald's on Washington street. Other juveniles reportedly smashed windows along Silvertone Bar and Grill’s storefront.

Ibraham Ibraham, the owner of Black Seed Café & Grill, told WCVB his restaurant was also the scene of a recent fight among juveniles.

"We called the cops and the cops separated them. Then they kept fighting, even when the cop were there," he said, complaining, "I'm losing business, so I hope they can do something about it."

12-year-old boy charged with murder in fatal shooting of 11-year-old. Mourning mother says, 'These are kids. They should have been playing in a sandbox somewhere'

Police in Clayton County, Georgia, have charged an unidentified 12-year-old boy with murder and various other crimes after he allegedly shot and killed an 11-year-old boy this week.

What are the details?

In a pair of posts on their Facebook page, the Clayton County Police Department said they responded to a shooting incident involving at least two juveniles early Thursday evening near the 6000 block of Westbury Road in Riverdale.

Upon arriving on the scene, they reportedly discovered that an 11-year-old boy, later identified as Elyjah Munson, had been shot. The child died on site.

On Friday, police arrested the 12-year-old for his role in the incident and charged him as a juvenile with a host of crimes — including murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm under 18, and first-degree cruelty to children.

The two boys lived in a nearby apartment complex and had been walking in a group when the shooting occurred, WAGA-TV reported.

Further details regarding the incident are currently sparse as police continue to conduct an investigation.

Police spokeswoman, Officer Halekia Helm, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “In an effort to maintain the integrity of this investigation, we are not releasing premature information in reference to this case."

What else?

Reporters from WAGA, however, were able to provide some more information after speaking with the victim's family and neighbors who reportedly witnessed the incident.

The victim's mother, Kendall Munson, told the outlet that the incident happened as a result of an argument between the two boys.

She noted that she had moved with her children out of Chicago at her parents' request. She was trying to flee violence in the Windy City but it ultimately followed her family to Georgia.

Munson added that her other son, who is just 12 years old, witnessed the shooting.

"He witnessed it and he just kept saying, ‘They left my brother lying there.’ This is crazy," Munson said.

In response to the announcement of charges on Friday, Munson, overcome with grief, expressed mixed feelings.

"I honestly don't know how to feel. That baby is 12. My baby is 11. These are kids," she said. "They should have been playing in a sandbox somewhere."

Anything else?

Neighbor Jerry Shepherd told WAGA that he and his wife also witnessed the fatal shooting. He reported that "one of them was saying, ‘You play too much man,’ and he pulled out a gun and shot him in the head."

Police are reportedly now working to find out more information about the charged 12-year-old and his family. Of particular interest is how exactly the child obtained a gun, who the owner of the gun is, and whether or not that person will be charged.

This is a developing story and may be updated.

2 Texas juveniles charged, one with capital murder, for senselessly gunning down 62-year-old grandmother as she tried to run away

Two Houston teenagers have been charged with murder in the killing of a defenseless elderly woman outside a gym earlier this year.

The Houston Police Department announced in a news release Thursday that charges have been filed against two suspects in the killing of 62-year-old Elsa Mikeska, which occurred June 17. Because the suspects are both juveniles, their names have not been released to the public.

Police arrested the first suspect, a 16-year-old male, on June 25, roughly a week after the crime was committed, KHOU-TV reported. A second suspect was arrested and charged this week. His exact age and identity have been concealed.

According to police, Mikeska parked her vehicle in a gym parking lot early in the morning hours of June 17. Moments later, the suspects parked an SUV nearby and exited the vehicle to approach her.

"As Mikeska walked toward the gym entrance, the suspects appeared to call out to her. Mikeska, realizing they were attempting to rob her, then ran towards the gym," police said in the news release. "One of the suspects fired one time, striking Mikeska who collapsed near the gym entrance. The suspects then got back into their SUV and fled the scene southbound on Beamer Road."

Police noted that suspects were originally described as "possibly Hispanic males in their early 20s." But later information revealed the assailants were much younger.

The crime was caught on surveillance video and posted by Houston police in June so that members of the public could come forward with information about the suspects.

KHOU reported that the first suspect arrested was referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on charges of capital murder. Details about the second suspect's murder charge was not immediately clear.

TheBlaze reached out to the Harris County District Attorney's office for more information on the charges but did not receive a reply in time for publication.

Houston police added that both murder suspects, and a third suspect who was in the SUV with them, were also involved in an aggravated robbery about one hour before the incident. According to the victim in the robbery, the suspects attempted to steal her vehicle but were not successful because it was inoperable.

All three juveniles have also been referred to probation authorities on aggravated robbery charges.

Mikeska, a great-grandmother, was described as a regular at the gym where she was shot. She is remembered for her passion for family, faith, and friends. Mikeska leaves behind her husband of 29 years, Steven Mikeska, and their three daughters.

Her senseless killing shocked Houston and kickstarted further calls for curbing violent crime. Here's more on the story:

Hold: Horowitz: DeSantis vetoes radical juvenile expungement bill passed unanimously by … Florida Republicans?

It takes a very special sort of leftist to believe – amid the juvenile crime wave – that the justice system is too strict on juvenile criminals and requires further leniency. Yet Republicans in Florida decided to use their trifecta control to further loosen laws against juvenile criminals rather than passing enhanced sentencing and strengthening deterrent. Thankfully, Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed the bill pushed by his own party.

In April, the GOP-controlled Florida legislature unanimously voted to permit a juvenile who completed a "diversion program" for any offense, including violent felony offenses, to have his arrest record expunged. SB 274 does not provide any exceptions for those with violent offenses or multiple felonies. Those convicted of first-time misdemeanors can already apply for expungement under current law, so by definition, this bill was designed for juvenile gang members who pose some of the greatest threats to our streets.

This is the type of bill that has circulated in the legislatures of New York and California, yet GOP leaders placed it on the floor in April, and it passed without any opposition. The vote in the Senate was: 39 yes, 0 no, and 1 absent; in the House it was 117 yes, 0 no, and 3 absent.

This is quite a shocking response to the crime wave. In 2020, Jacksonville experienced a 13% increase in homicides and a 25% increase in aggravated assaults. Homicides this year in Miami are already 30% higher than this time last year. Why are they still acting like crime has been solved and we can afford to further empty the prisons?

While not all the crime is caused by juveniles, they are increasingly composing a greater share of both the shooting suspects and victims across the country because there is simply no strong deterrent against them. In a shocking mass shooting in Miami last month, it was a group of teenagers who shot 20 people and killed two. In Volusia County on June 1, a 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl broke into a house and engaged in a shootout with sheriff's deputies. According to Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the 14-year-old had previously been arrested for burning down a children's home she was sent to live in, but the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice made a determination that she was not eligible to be held in a secure facility.

Now, at a time when we are already too lenient on juveniles and it's so hard to get them behind bars or into a secure facility, expungement would reset the clock and ignore aggravated assaults, carjackings, arson – and even rape and murder.

"Anybody that sits back and tells you that we're a model in the state of Florida – we're a failure in the state of Florida, just like every other state that embarks on this measure," said Sheriff Chitwood. "We're not saying we don't believe in a holistic approach to juvenile crime. Absolutely, positively. But when you got somebody who wants to do big-boy crimes or big-girl crimes, then treat them accordingly. Don't try to mollycoddle them and pat them on the head and say if we hold hands and sing 'Kumbaya' we're gonna change your behavior. It's not going to happen. They laugh at us."

Roxana Sanchez, a 36-year-old mother of two, is a perfect example of Sheriff Chitwood's warning. In May, she was gunned down by a 17-year-old during a carjacking in Orange County. Guess what: The suspect, Ja'Quarius McCray, was out on conditional release for an armed burglary he committed in 2020. Again, had DeSantis not vetoed this bill, these sorts of crimes would be expunged and it would be even harder to keep dangerous felons behind bars for subsequent crimes.

It's in this vein that Gov. Ron DeSantis took the unprecedented step of vetoing a bill passed unanimously by his own party. "I have concerns that an unfettered [law] to expunge serious felonies, including sexual battery, from a juvenile's record may have negative impacts on public safety," DeSantis said in his veto letter. On the same day, DeSantis also vetoed SB 146, a bill requiring high school students to participate in an outside civics experience or event and write a paper on it. The bill, supported unanimously by Republicans, would easily have served as a recruiting tool for groups like BLM and any number of Marxist organizations that monopolize the world of "civics."

Clearly, the few conservatives in the legislature are not paying attention to the bills placed before them and are just going along with what the special interests put on their plates. This is why it's so important for conservatives to engage state legislatures in red states and pressure them to pass bills that reflect sane priorities, not those of San Francisco.

According to state law, juveniles can only be held in detention for 21 days. Why have Republicans not fixed this insane categorical loophole for some of the most violent criminals? Why do they not care about victims? Because conservatives have failed to understand that red state legislatures provide more opportunity to create positive (or negative) change than anything that happens in Washington.

Wanted: a state where both the GOP governor and legislature care more about victims and public safety than criminals. At present, no such state exists. We must fight for it.
