Previously rabid fans of Kamala Harris are losing faith: 'Did I just make up a person in my head who could do those things?'

The online fans of Vice President Kamala Harris call themselves the "KHive" on Twitter and they are losing faith in her as her poll numbers continue to crater.

The Daily Beast spoke to several members of the KHive and found that many don't support Harris nearly as vehemently as they used to. The KHive is named after the far more popular BeyHive, an online fan club dedicated to celebrity singer Beyoncé.

Some said that she simply didn't meet up to their ideal as a social justice reformer.

“I would never, ever say that I regret supporting the first Black woman vice president, ever. But the disappointment is real,” said one self-described former KHive member. “I was obsessed with the idea of this person who could undo the systemic, the systematic racism and sexism and heterosexism in government with one fell swoop, and now I’m thinking to myself, did I just make up a person in my head who could do those things?”

Another said KHive members have moved on to support other Democrat politicians.

“Her supporters continue to defend her from unfair, baseless attacks, but now that she’s in office, they have largely pivoted to helping elect more Democrats at the federal, state, and local levels who will provide support for the Biden-Harris policy agenda,” said Chris Evans.

Many KHive members also got sick of attacking fans of other candidates and of being attacked.

“We all went a little nuts during the pandemic,” said another member who was trying to avoid “my ten-millionth flamewar with some #BernieBot that just gives us both palpitations.”

Harris was not very popular before the 2020 election, but she has since lost even more support after a series of scandals and embarrassing gaffes. In one poll from August 2021, a majority of Americans said that Harris was not qualified to take on the duties of the presidency if she were asked to do so.

The vice president has also faced slings and arrows from the right posting videos of Harris repeating words and phrases during speeches to mock and ridicule her.

What is space? Kamala Harris has answers, gets slammed for saying them out loud

“Space is exciting"

Vice President Kamala Harris has gotten herself into a pickle before over her talks on space. Last October, it was outed that a YouTube Kids original video she participated in included child actors, leading to some heavy mockery for days. So you would think the VP would be on her game the next time she was asked to confront the topic of space. You would think.

After reportedly receiving a briefing on the work of the U.S. Space Force and U.S. Space Command advancing national security, the Vice President stopped by Vandenberg Space Force Base to speak to members of the U.S. Space Force.

“Our Administration is working to establish international rules and norms for space. Yesterday at Vandenberg Space Force Base, I announced a new commitment that will help promote peaceful and responsible behavior in space,” Harris announced in a tweet from the vice president’s account.

Missing from her tweet, however, was the part that later emerged in a video clip of her explanation of space to Space Force members in a tone and cadence that almost resembled a poor attempt at slam poetry for kindergarteners.

“Space is exciting,” Harris begins in one clip. “It spurs our imaginations, and it forces us to ask big questions. Space? It affects us all. And it connects us all.”

The wreckage quickly began online with critics pointing out the absurdity of the words she chose to say out loud to a room full of adult members of Space Force. One of the most highlighted comments was from singer and songwriter Bradley Skistimas of “Five Times August” who compared her speech to a book report on space she was unprepared to deliver.

"the queen of saying nothing while talking," added musician Tilian Pearsonilian Pearson.

"Kamala Harris is one of the most inauthentic people to ever hold office," said Caleb Hull.

"The space between her ears definitely effects us all," Jason Buttrill tweeted.

BlazeTV host of "The News & Why It Matters" Sara Gonzales was reminded of high school:

A longer video of the speech is also available for those who want more of the Kamala-talks-space experience.

Hispanic Caucus lawmaker refuses to meet Kamala Harris staffer over decade-old tweet against illegal aliens

A member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus refuses to attend a meeting with a communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris (D), Jamal Simmons, over his tweets about illegal aliens from a decade ago.

Rep. Lou Correa (D-Calif.) said that a meeting would not persuade him to accept Simmons' apology.

“The deep concern to me is this may show his true disposition when it comes to immigration. That's what my concern is. A meeting is not going to change my mind or give me peace of mind one way or the other,” Correa said to The Hill.

Simmons tweeted in 2010 that immigration officials should have apprehended illegal aliens who had revealed their immigration status live on-air on MSNBC at the time.

He later apologized for the statements.

"At times I've been sarcastic, unclear or plainly missed the mark. I apologize for offending ppl who care as much as I do about making America the best, multiethnic, diverse democracy [and] I'll [represent] the Biden-Harris admin [with] humility, sincerity [and] respect," tweeted Simmons.

He is scheduled to participate in a virtual videoconference with the CHC on Thursday to address their apprehension and anger over his decade-old comments.

"The statements that Jamal made were just stunning, beyond stunning. Words cannot describe my feelings," said Correa to Axios.

“Is he a Trumper? That’s a question I might ask him,” he added.

Simmons apologized personally to Erika Andiola, the illegal alien advocate he had been referring to in the tweet from 2010.

The controversy is just the latest in a string of damaging episodes that are eroding faith among Democrats that Harris is capable of helping them absorb what are expected to be numerous losses in the midterm elections.
