Doctor's post celebrating abortion is so ghoulish that even pro-choice people turn against her: 'A family value'

An Indiana doctor went viral over the weekend after she bragged about providing abortions, leading many people who identify as "pro-choice" to question their stance.

Last Friday, Dr. Katie McHugh, a "queer OB/GYN," posted a picture of herself holding a cannula — a device used in abortions to remove the tissue of the deceased unborn child from the womb — while boasting about providing abortion "care."

"Happy Friday! #Abortion care is still legal in Indiana. We’re doing everything we can to keep it that way," she tweeted. "#AbortionIsHealthcare — as well as a community priority, a family value, and a normal part of life!

"Abortion is moral, common, and it isn’t going away," she claimed. "Neither are we."

The post, which received millions of views by Monday, generated a tidal wave of backlash.

Specifically, many people who identify as "pro-choice" — i.e., those who support abortion — spoke out against Dr. McHugh and her "creepy" post.

 • "Abortion should *never* be common and should *never* be celebrated.I say this as someone who's against making it illegal. What an absolutely unnerving and creepy post," one person said.
 • "Seeing how happy you are to kill babies makes me question my pro choice stance," another person said.
 • "I’m largely pro-choice but I question if I’m on the right side of the argument when I see providers get excited to perform abortions. This is a very, very creepy post," another person said.
 • "I’m pro-choice, not pro-abortion. A distinction I never felt the need to make until this recent — and yes creepy — Democrat/lefty embrace of abortion," one person responded.
 • "All they wanted was safe, legal, and rare. Now we have 'moral, common, and isn’t going away,'" another person observed.
 • "Why are you smiling with an abortion tool.. even in the most straight forward of circumstances it still isn’t smile worthy..." another person responded.

The sharp reaction, rather than drawing out a spirit of contrition, caused Dr. McHugh to dig her heels in.

"Despite the *many* hateful comments, I am proud to normalize #abortion care, smile at and for people needing help, and honor the people choosing abortion," she responded.

"I celebrate the chance to honor people as they choose their lives, families, and futures," she added.

Democrat Katie Hobbs defeats Republican Kari Lake in Arizona governor's race

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, has defeated Republican Kari Lake in the state's 2022 gubernatorial election — the Associated Press made the race call on Monday.

"Democracy is worth the wait. Thank you, Arizona. I am so honored and so proud to be your next Governor," Hobbs tweeted.

“Democracy is worth the wait.

Thank you, Arizona.

I am so honored and so proud to be your next Governor.”

Arizona's current governor, Doug Ducey, is a Republican who entered office in 2015.

Former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, who announced last month that she was ditching the Democratic Party, had endorsed Lake in the Arizona governor's race.

But Republican Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming had said that if she lived in Arizona, she would vote for Democrats for governor and secretary of state. When an ad by a Cheney-sponsored PAC targeted Lake, the gubernatorial candidate responded by suggesting that the ad amounted to a "generous in-kind" campaign contribution.

"Thank you for your generous in-kind contribution to my campaign," Lake declared in a message directed toward Cheney. "Your recent television ad urging Arizonans not to vote for me is doing just the opposite. Our campaign donations are skyrocketing and our website nearly crashed from traffic as people rushed to learn more about my plan to put Arizona First and join our historic political movement."

The Arizona governor's race is not the GOP's only high-profile loss this year in the state — Republican candidate Blake Masters lost to incumbent Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly in a U.S. Senate contest.

"For my people who knocked on doors in 115 degree heat, and for the million+ Arizonans who put their faith in me, we are going to make sure that every legal vote is counted," Masters tweeted Saturday. "If, at the end, Senator Kelly has more of them than I do, then I will congratulate him on a hard-fought victory. But voters decide, not the media; let's count the votes."

'Night of rage' protests erupt into violence across the country: Fox News HQ targeted, fireworks shot at police, pro-life woman attacked, journalists assaulted

Protests erupted across the country following the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. In major U.S. cities, pro-abortion protesters violently clashed with law enforcement on Friday.

Washington, D.C.

Antifa-linked pro-abortion group Jane's Revenge vowed to undertake a "night of rage" after the Supreme Court's ruling on allowing states to make the final call about abortion. Black bloc protesters wielding umbrellas marched through the streets of Washington, D.C.

The group chanted slogans such as, "If abortion ain’t safe, neither are you," "If we don’t get it, burn it down," "Every city, every town, burn the precinct to the ground," and "F*** the church, f*** the state, we won't let them decide our fate." The protesters burned American flags.

Footage from the protests were provided by Fox News associate producer Lisa Bennatan, Post Millennial correspondent Hannah Nighting, Washington Examiner's Matt Miller, and TPUSA contributor Drew Hernandez.

Video: Cop appears to punch protester in face, knock protester to street as demonstrators scuffle with police, refuse to disperse

A Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, police officer was caught on video apparently punching a protester in the face and knocking the protester to the street as demonstrators in the Pittsburgh-area borough scuffled with police and refused to disperse over the weekend.

What are the details?

Saturday's protest was for Jim Rogers, a homeless man who died last year after Pittsburgh police repeatedly tased him, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. The Justice for Jim Rogers organization also called for firing and charges to be filed against officers and EMS workers involved the day Rogers was arrested, WTAE-TV reported.

The march began in Pittsburgh and then crossed into Wilkinsburg, where video shows protesters stopping in an intersection and blocking traffic while a police officer on a loudspeaker says it's an "unlawful assembly" and that protesters "will be arrested" if they don't keep the march moving.

With that, a number of protesters converged upon a police vehicle and cursed out the officer, telling him "F*** you!" and "Let her speak!" and "We're not scared of you!"

Failing to get the protesters to disperse from the intersection, the officer gets help from colleagues. As police move in and apparently try to arrest several protesters, a scuffle breaks out.

Soon an officer appears to deliver a punch to a protester's face:

Who is the protester the cop apparently punched?

The Pittsburgh City Paper said the apparently punched protester was identified as Vuestro Merced. According to a Post-Gazette editorial, "Vuestro Merced then shoved Officer Taylor, who responded with a left cross that knocked the protester to the ground."

The City Paper, citing a Twitter post, said Merced was later released from police custody.

Wilkinsburg Mayor Dontae Comans offered WPXI-TV the following statement after the incident: “The footage being shared shows what we do not want to see or experience when a community is expressing its hurt over police sanctioned violence...I have been in touch with the police chief and our officers body cameras were on, which will be used to investigate next steps.”

The City Paper said the Wilkinsburg Police Department didn't immediately comment on the incident.

Sex offender wanted for shooting sheriff's deputy breaks into home with Trump 2020 flag flying outside — and homeowner kills him in shootout

An armed sex offender — wanted for shooting a Florida sheriff's deputy and who was said to have an "evil mindset" and was out to "kill and destroy"— made the last mistake of his life when he broke into a home flying a Trump 2020 flag Wednesday morning.

What are the details?

The Dixie County Sheriff's Office said it assisted the Taylor County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday about 9:45 p.m. after it was reported that a Taylor County deputy was shot during a traffic stop. Dixie County deputies and other agencies searched all night for the suspect without success.

Then on Wednesday around 7:20 a.m., Dixie County deputies responded to a call from a homeowner who said he shot an intruder. The homeowner told arriving deputies he exchanged gunfire with the suspect who'd entered the home. The suspect, Gregory Miedema, was dead at the scene. Miedema was suspected of shooting the Taylor County deputy Tuesday night.

An official told WCTV-TV the Steinhatchee homeowner was shot while protecting himself during the break-in and was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and was expected to be released soon.

'An evil mindset'

Deputies also found at the scene the suspect’s vehicle and several firearms strategically placed in what appeared to be an ambush setup, the sheriff's office said.

During a subsequent press conference, Dixie County Sheriff Darby Butler said he believes Miedema "had an evil mindset; his thought process was to kill and destroy innocent people, and fortunately he did not succeed in that."

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd had nothing but praise for the homeowner who took out Miedema, telling WTVT-TV that "when you break into a house of a stranger and you're shot — shot and killed — that's on you. The homeowner did exactly what he should have done, and that's protect himself, his family, and his home."

What do we know about the dead suspect?

Miedema, 33, was a registered sex offender in the state. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s said Miedema was convicted in 2011 while serving the in the U.S. Army on one count of "lewd or lascivious battery, intercourse with a victim 12 to 15 years old" and one count of possession of child pornography. The sheriff's office added that Miedema was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison followed by two months of probation.

What happened to the wounded deputy?

The Taylor County Sheriff's Office identified the wounded deputy as Troy Andersen, who was part of the K9 unit, WCTV said. The station added that he was airlifted to a hospital and was undergoing reconstructive surgery on his face and was in stable condition.

Anything else?

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a "Blue Alert" for Miedema around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after he shot the Taylor County sheriff's deputy in Perry, WTVT said.

The station said the Blue Alert notification system has been in place for a decade to alert the public when a law enforcement officer is seriously hurt, killed, or missing in the line of duty. It was only the fourth time a Blue Alert had been issued.

"It's immediately 'all hands on deck' because something terrible has happened to a law enforcement officer, and the suspects are not in custody," Judd added to WTVT, also noting that "if you shoot at a law enforcement officer — an armed law enforcement officer — or you're trying to kill them, no one is safe."

As supply chain woes continue, Biden plans vaccine mandate for non-resident truck drivers entering the US — still no such requirement for illegal aliens

The United States is continuing to experience a supply chain problem. We are seeing shipyards backlogged with shipping containers waiting for truck drivers. The situation has resulted in empty shelves in a lot of stores.

So ... what is President Joe Biden doing to help ensure the U.S. is able to get goods shipped more easily?

Does forcing non-resident truckers crossing the U.S.-Canadian border to show proof of vaccination count? Most observers would say no.

What's happening?

The Biden administration plans to announce a vaccine mandate for non-resident truck drivers and other essential travelers entering the U.S., the Associated Press reported.

The mandate, which takes effect Jan. 22, will bring rules for these essential travelers in line with existing rules for leisure travelers that were implemented Nov. 8 when the U.S. reopened the borders for fully vaccinated people.

Critics pointed out that the move comes at the same time that Americans are witnessing major supply chain disruptions, which includes a shortage of truck drivers.

The Americans Trucking Association warned the government earlier this month that requiring truckers to get jabbed would worsen the crisis in the supply chain, the AP noted.

"While much of the country was sequestered in their homes, the trucking industry served its essential function and did so successfully with safety standards developed by public health experts," ATA President Chris Spear said in an Oct. 21 letter to the White House opposing vaccine requirements for truckers, including the administration's now-suspended OSHA vax mandate, Transport Topics reported. "Now placing vaccination mandates on employers, which in turn force employees to be vaccinated, will create a workforce crisis for our industry and the communities, families and businesses we serve."

Spear warned that vaccine mandates "will have vast unintended consequences."

"The U.S. is already facing unprecedented supply chain disruptions and delays due to many factors, including significant labor shortages, production shutdowns, a shortage of raw materials, and pent-up consumer demand," Spear continued, adding, "Our data shows that a vaccine mandate may very well further cripple the supply chain throughout the country by forcing up to 13% of drivers to leave the industry entirely."

Trucking group Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association also went after the administration over vaccine mandates. The organization's spokeswoman, Norita Taylor, called the jab requirement an example of "how unnecessary government mandates can force experienced owner-operators and independent truckers out of business" and warned that the mandate would "send safe drivers off the road," the AP said.

Canadian truckers aren't happy about it either.

In a story from the Toronto Star headlined, "A trucking nightmare: Supply chain horrors feared as thousands of unvaccinated drivers won't be allowed to cross U.S.-Canada border," Canadian Trucking Alliance President Stephen Laskowski said, "This is making a bad situation a lot worse. It's the perfect storm."

Other critics of the vaccine mandate for border crossers were quick to point out that the administration is now requiring ALL non-U.S. residents who enter the country to be vaccinated — EXCEPT for illegal aliens.

Since Biden was sworn in, approximately 2 million illegal immigrants have come into the U.S. There are currently no vaccine or even COVID testing requirements for illegal aliens.

Nearly 2 million illegal immigrants who crossed into the U.S. this year have no such requirement. Insanity.https://twitter.com/breaking911/status/1463252168656441349 …

Video: Armed off-duty cop shoots and kills gunman who burst into barbershop and killed barber

An off-duty police officer is being hailed a hero after fatally shooting a 38-year-old suspect who police say walked into a Baltimore barbershop and shot an employee to death, the Baltimore Sun reported.

What are the details?

The unnamed off-duty Baltimore police officer was getting a haircut on Saturday afternoon when 38-year-old Carlos Ortega burst into the Bladi Style barbershop in East Baltimore and fatally shot the barber, 33-year-old Rafael Jeffers.

Video surveillance captured the moment the the officer, who was armed and in plain clothes while off duty, quickly jumped to his feet and "with great bravery produced his firearm," according to Police Commissioner Michael Harrison.

Pulling his gun out, the officer fatally shot Ortega, immediately stopping him from doing any more damage.

The police officer was not injured during the exchange.

Ortega was a suspect in two other shootings that took place earlier in the day, and police are working to determine any motives that might link the three shootings. The two earlier shootings left one man dead and another person critically injured.

"We're processing three different scenes in three parts of the city," Harrison explained. "While this perpetrator has expired from his injuries, we will still need answers to these questions. ... We are working to determine the connectivity, which is a likely connectivity."

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott lauded the officer's heroic actions in a statement on the incident.

"This is something the average person wouldn't do," Scott said, "and this is something that our officers do each and every day in the City of Baltimore. We don't know what would have happened if he was not able to respond in that way, and how many more incidents could have happened tonight here in Baltimore City."

Democrat Katie Hill loses 'revenge porn' lawsuit against Daily Mail, vows to appeal

The California Democrat who resigned from Congress over leaked nonconsensual nude photos lost her lawsuit against the Daily Mail for publishing them, but she vowed to fight on.

Katie Hill resigned from Congress in October 2019 over the allegations of improper sexual conduct with one of her staffers that arose from the publishing of leaked nude photos. The improper "throuple" relationship was first reported by Jennifer Van Laar, an editor at RedState.

On Wednesday, a Los Angeles judge ruled that the Daily Mail had a free speech right to publish the photos because they are in the public interest in terms of the character of the former member of Congress.

"The photos show a sitting congresswoman engaging in conduct some might consider highly inappropriate and perhaps unlawful, with one exhibiting plaintiff's tattoo which looks similar to the symbols formerly used by white supremacists," said L.A. County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Orozco.

"The facts of which these photos speak are about plaintiff's character, judgment and qualifications for her congressional position," she added. "Of course, these are matters of public concern."

Hill took to Twitter to denounce the ruling.

"I sued the Daily Mail for their publication of my nonconsensual nude images. Today, we lost in court because a judge - not a jury - thinks revenge porn is free speech," Hill tweeted.

— Katie Hill (@Katie Hill)1617826553.0

"This fight has massive implications for any woman who ever wants to run for office, so quitting isn't an option," she added.

Hill linked to a lengthy Twitter stream by her attorney, Carrie Goldberg, who emphatically excoriated the ruling.

"We insist – and will bring it up in appeal – that revenge porn lawsuits are not speech-based lawsuits. They center around the conduct of nonconsensual sharing – and this is not speech," tweeted Goldberg.

After resigning from Congress, Hill was saddened when her seat then flipped to Republican control in a special election in 2020. She implied that there had been a right-wing conspiracy from the beginning involving red states and the Daily Mail to steal the seat.

"I take full responsibility for my mistakes, but this Republican win is no coincidence," she said at the time.

Pete Buttigieg caught unloading bike from SUV before riding to Cabinet meeting in apparent botched environmentalist photo-op

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was seen riding a bike with multiple SUVs in tow on his way to a Cabinet meeting on Thursday in what appears to have been an attempt at an environmentalist photo-op.

The secretary — who has been leading the charge on the Biden administration's efforts to battle climate change — likely wanted to showcase his efforts to arrive at the White House meeting in a climate-friendly way. Only he was caught by CNN reporter DJ Judd unloading the bike from a gas-guzzling SUV just moments before.

"Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg biked to the White House for today's Cabinet Meeting, it would appear," wrote Judd, who covered Buttigieg in Iowa and Georgia during the 2020 Democratic primary, in a caption for the video.

A longer version of the video posted by WFMZ-TV clearly shows security personnel unloading the bike off a bike rack situated on the back of the SUV. After that, the former Democratic presidential candidate mounts the bike and appears to wait until several security agents' SUVs are ready to escort him. Then he takes off with the vehicles following closely behind.

The clothing also matched another video claiming to capture the Transportation Secretary leaving the White House after the meeting, once again, on bike. That video was posted by SCOTUS Blog staffer Katie Barlow.

One commenter on Twitter, whose posting of the video has attracted more than 1 million views, characterized the scene as "Pete Buttigieg's dog and pony show."

"Use an armored Suburban to bring a bike within a short distance of the destination. Unload it and ride in with a security detail in tow, pretending to save energy," the commenter added.

TheBlaze has reached out to Buttigieg's office for comment but has not yet received a reply.

It's not the first time that Buttigieg has chosen to ride a bike through the District. In February, he and other Cabinet members were reportedly filmed cycling through the Navy Yard.

The secretary raised eyebrows this week after suggesting that Americans ought to be taxed for every mile they drive as a possible way to fund the administration's multitrillion dollar infrastructure plan.

The plan, unveiled this week, reserves the bulk of its supposed "infrastructure" spending for progressive initiatives such as combatting climate change and providing free community college.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calls for 'full investigation' of Gov. Cuomo's COVID-19 nursing home scandal

Squad leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has joined a growing chorus of New York lawmakers calling for a full investigation into how Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) mishandled the coronavirus pandemic in nursing homes.

On Wednesday, the Albany Times Union reported that the FBI and the U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District of New York have opened an investigation into the Cuomo administration's coronavirus task force and the crisis in New York nursing homes.

"I support our state's return to co-equal governance and stand with our local officials calling for a full investigation of the Cuomo administration's handling of nursing homes during COVID-19," Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement. "Thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers lost their lives in nursing homes throughout the pandemic. Their loved ones and the public deserve answers and transparency from their elected leadership, and the Secretary to the Governor's remarks warrant a full investigation."

The Cuomo administration has faced scathing public criticism from New York lawmakers ever since a top Cuomo aide privately admitted last week that the state government withheld data on COVID-19 nursing home deaths from the legislature out of fear President Donald Trump would wield Cuomo's failure as a political weapon.

On the same day, the Associated Press published a bombshell report revealing that thousands more coronavirus patients were sent to nursing homes than Cuomo previously admitted.

During a news conference Monday in Albany, Cuomo blamed nursing home staff for spreading the virus and repeated his insistence that his policy of sending coronavirus patients to nursing homes was not responsible for the wave of nursing home deaths.

The governor is also under fire for privately threatening a Democratic state lawmaker who publicly criticized him, telling him "you will be destroyed." That lawmaker, Assemblyman Ron Kim, went public with Cuomo's threat and inspired a renewed wave of criticism of the governor.

"We are deeply disturbed by the Governor's attacks on our colleague — a fellow Democrat — Assemblymember Kim," said 12 Democratic lawmakers in a joint statement condemning Cuomo's actions. They also announced support for legislation sponsored by Kim to strip Cuomo of his pandemic-related emergency powers.

"As a co-equal branch of government, the Legislature is well within its rights to seek oversight of executive action. In fact, we have a duty to seek that oversight," the lawmakers wrote in their statement.

"It is our job to represent our constituents and seek answers to the tragedies that took place in nursing homes around the State. We have no interest in name calling — we aim to restore the proper balance of power between the Legislature and Executive" branches of state government.
