Twitter is testing prompts to warn users if a conversation they are about to join might get 'heated or intense'

Twitter says that it is testing out prompts on Android and iOS to warn people if a conversation they are about to join on the social media platform could become "heated or intense."

"Ever want to know the vibe of a conversation before you join in? We're testing prompts on Android and iOS that give you a heads up if the convo you're about to enter could get heated or intense. This is a work in progress as we learn how to better support healthy conversation," the social media giant tweeted on its Twitter Support account.

"We are testing giving people a heads up before they join a potentially heated discussion," a Twitter spokesperson informed Fox Business via a statement. "This is the first exploration into more context about a conversation's vibes, so you can be informed before you join."

"This is a small limited experiment on iOS and Android and we will be learning and iterating and there will be more to come," the spokesperson noted. "Our goal is to provide a more informed experience around the types of conversations people are looking to join." They explained that "some examples of signals we may consider include the Tweet topic and the relationship between the Tweet author and replier."

Unsurprisingly, not everyone is thrilled by this plan.

"Social media companies continue to find different way to repackage 'please let our algorithms make decisions on your behalf,'" one person tweeted.

"No, I don't want to know the 'vibe' ..I can read and assimilate data without your warnings or translations.Mainly because it's ONLY YOUR opinion. It's as dumb as needing a SIGN before I walk in a restaurant PEOPLE HAVE CHOKED ON SOLID FOOD SO U MIGHT WANT TO ONLY EAT PURÉED FOOD," actress Kirstie Alley tweeted.

Logan Hall, director of social media and communications at the Daily Caller, said the he's "convinced that twitter aims to ruin twitter."

"So I guess Twitter thinks users are dumb and can't tell if a conversation is ridiculous unless specifically told such?" Dana Loesch tweeted.

"We just want an 'Edit" button," pollster Frank Luntz said.

Kristie Alley angers many by declaring entertainment is leading us down a road towards accepting pedophilia

Kristie Alley voiced her opinion about children being exposed to "perverse" content on television and on the internet. The Hollywood actress warned that society's open-mindedness will eventually lead us down a road of accepting pedophilia. Alley's comments angered many, including fellow celebrities and an LGBTQ website.

"Was watching TV ...we've gone too far in my opinion. I feel sorry for our children," Alley tweeted on Tuesday morning. "Their exposure to everything perverse on every kind of screen is mind boggling. And even more tragic, it's being hyped as 'normal.'"

"No other generation has had such easy access to the underbelly of humanity," the actress continued. "SO many screens & chronic bombardment of images and concepts. Our current society would have been praising Caligula. Protect your children."

"I'm kinda on a roll but my heart's heavy with the sh** that's being crammed down our kid's throats," Alley proclaimed. "A 'moral code' is not old fashioned. Morals are simply guidelines for better survival. Explicit sexual 'education' and 'select' ideals being forced on kids is NOT better survival."

"People are becoming so 'open minded' that down the road they will support pediphilia as people 'just loving children' You think I'm kidding. I'm not," Alley said. "It's the direction this insanity is headed. You can 'ok boomer' me all you want but this is where we will veer unless we change."

"I love the way the twisty twists twist my fears about CHILDREN's futures into I'm against ADULTS having their choice of partners. Funny how all roads lead to that. I could care less who adults love or sleep with," she continued. "My topic today was children being exposed to dark things."

While thousands of people agreed with Alley, there were many who attacked the former "Cheers" star for her slippery slope stance.

The celebrity gossip website Socialite Life said her remarks were "rambling and incoherent," and mocked Alley by saying, "Scientologist and one-time actress, Kristie Alley, has apparently been listening to too many QAnon theories of late."

The Daily Wire reported, "Meanwhile, LGBTQ publication, Queerty, claimed Alley's concerns were nonsensical. 'Former actress Kirstie Alley took to Twitter this morning to rant incoherently about something she'd just watched on television,' the story said. 'Though she didn't say exactly what she had seen, based on her remarks, it seems to have been about teaching LGBTQ issues and sex ed in schools … God forbid we teach our children to be more kind and accepting of others.'"

Another Hollywood website called Alley's tweets "disturbing."

Singer and left-wing activist Ricky Davila, who is still hurt that Alley blocked him five years ago, targeted the actress, "The ever abhorrent Kirstie Alley is trending because she's obsessed with pedophilia as many of her allies in the GQP cult are and project about aka donor Josh Duggar. She blocked me in 2016, so I'm unable to call her a rabid hateful brainwashed lunatic to her face again. Oh well."

Political pundit Matthew Dowd responded, "Please seek the care of a team of mental health professionals."

Comedian Sarah Silverman replied, "Yes because pedophilia certainly doesn't at all thrive in good old fashioned repressed society like church and catholic school. Keeping kids in the dark is where darkness lives, Ma."

Earlier this week, a Washington Post writer advocated for children to be exposed to "kink" at Pride parades, which prompted many to accuse the writer of promoting pedophilia.

CNN launches personal attack at Kirstie Alley after she criticizes their reporting — and she fires back

Kirstie Alley took to Twitter Friday to voice criticism of CNN's reporting, and the network's communications account fired back with a personal attack on the actress that sparked strong reactions. But Alley hit right back.

What are the details?

"I now Know why my personal friends who walk around in SHEER TERROR of contracting Covid are simply CNN viewers!" Alley wrote. "I decided to watch CNN myself to get a their viewpoint and oh my God DID I EVER!!!! IF YOU TOO WANT TO LIVE IN TERROR WATCH CNN!! FEAR OF DYING IS THEIR MANTRA! OMG!"

CNN Communications replied, "Kirstie, you are welcome to change the channel - just like countless viewers did every time 'Veronica's Closet' came on TV. But don't downplay the loss of nearly 230K American lives. And please, wear a mask."

The CNN public relations team was referring to a show Alley starred in in the late '90s. The actress, who supports President Donald Trump for reelection, then slammed the cable network for turning a blind eye to stories that might damage Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

"If only you paid as much attention to Joe Biden's alleged corrupt business dealings as a TV show that was rated top ten in 1997," Alley responded. "I guess you got that wrong too."

Some on social media joined CNN in accusing Alley of downplaying the coronavirus, which she denied, explaining, "Don't misinterpret my objection to CHRONIC FEAR MONGERING,WITH ZERO NEW SOLUTIONS TO AVOID THE PLAGUE, as non empathetic. That's a lie spread by Democrats who want to twist my words & make me seem unsympathetic. Chronic FEAR mongering doesn't help ANYONE physically or mentally."

'This is some grade-A juvenile stuff here.'

Others slammed CNN for the way the outlet responded to Alley.

Newsbusters managing editor Curtis Houck wrote, "This is some grade-A juvenile stuff here, CNN. But this is also very on-brand of you. No class. No ethics. It's all a game."

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (Fla.) also weighed in with a burn on CNN, tweeting, "Veronica's Closet had 35 million initial viewers. About 10 million more than the Mueller testimony. It ended its third season with 8 million viewers, down for sure. But still about 8x the viewership of CNN's top-rated show."
