VIDEO: Tacoma police vehicle plows through crowd, officer placed on leave

A Tacoma Police officer has been temporarily placed on leave after plowing through a crowd in Washington state. The dramatic and graphic scene was captured on video.

Tacoma Police were responding to a "car meet" that allegedly got "out of control." Video shows cars doing "burnouts" and "donuts" in the middle of an intersection. The car meet had "approximately 100 people present blocking the intersection when officers arrived on scene," the Tacoma Police said in a press release.

At one point, one of the vehicles doing donuts appears to hit an onlooker.

"Tacoma Police officers responding to the location began clearing the intersection of vehicles and people for the safety of those gathered and people trying to use the street," the police department stated.

The Tacoma Police Department statement said the crowd surrounded the vehicle, and people "hit the body of the police vehicle and its windows as the officer was stopped in the street."

"The officer, fearing for his safety, tried to back up, but was unable to do so because of the crowd," the press release said. "The officer had his lights and sirens activated. While trying to extricate himself from an unsafe position, the officer drove forward striking one individual and may have impacted others."

Videos from the scene of the incident show the stopped police SUV and the crowd gathered around it. Then the police vehicle accelerates forward, plowing into the crowd. The vehicle knocks several people to the ground, and one man is seen in the video being run over by the front and rear tires.

One person sustained a laceration from the incident and was transported to a local hospital. The police were unaware of the person's condition.

City Manager Elizabeth Pauli told the News Tribune that the officer driving the vehicle would be placed on leave. The investigation has been turned over to the Pierce County Force Investigation Team.

"I am concerned that our department is experiencing another use of deadly force incident," interim Tacoma Police Chief Mike Ake said. "I send my thoughts to anyone who was injured in tonight's event, and am committed to our Department's full cooperation in the independent investigation and to assess the actions of the department's response during the incident."

Smiling woman holding pro-police sign infuriates Black Lives Matter protester who threatens, bullies her: 'Baby girl, you're not walking away anywhere!'

A smiling woman holding a pro-police sign stuck a decidedly opposing tone during a protest against cops in Omaha, Nebraska, following an officer-involved fatal shooting of a black man — and the woman was harassed and threatened for her stance.

What happened?

Multiple videos show the blonde-haired woman dressed in a light-colored "Nebraska" sweatshirt holding a sign that read, "I [heart] OPD" — presumably short for "I love the Omaha Police Department" — and she stuck out prominently among the mob of protesters dressed in black.

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @KittyLists

At one point as she weaves around the anti-cop crowd growing around her, one protester yells at her, "Baby girl, you're not walking away anywhere!" and continues hollering just feet from her face.

When the blond-haired woman dares to smile in response, her adversary loses it: "Do you think black people being murdered is f***in' funny, bitch?"

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @KittyLists

When the woman with pro-police sign moves some distance away, the angry protester actually follows her and continues yelling at her.

The accosted woman appears to push the protester's arm away from her face, and with that the protester appears to threaten and even dare her to "put your motherf***in' hands on me, bitch!"

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @KittyLists

Just as the woman with the pro-cop sign manages to get away from her adversary, it appears police used pepper spray on the unruly crowd, several of whom yell at cops for their actions and run away coughing.

Here are several sets of clips showing the confrontation. (Content warning: Language):

Two women arrested

WOWT-TV said two women were arrested during Saturday night's protest outside the Omaha Police Department headquarters — and that the arrests stemmed from assaults against a man and woman who came to the protest with pro-police signs.

Earlier on, protesters were chanting "Black Lives Matter" before arriving at police headquarters, KETV-TV said. And the man and woman arrived at the protest about 10:20 p.m. holding their signs but not obstructing the protest against cops, WOWT reported.

Five minutes later, protesters used a large cloth sign to block officers' view of the pro-police people, WOWT said, adding that when officers repositioned themselves, they saw the pro-police people being assaulted and their signs torn.

The station said officers went into the crowd and removed two women who allegedly assaulted the pro-police group as well as the pro-police individuals.

Pepper balls and pepper spray were used on the sidewalk "in front of agitators" while controlling the crowd and during suspects' arrests, WOWT reported.

One women was arrested for disorderly conduct and destruction of property, the station said, while the second woman was arrested for misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.

It isn't clear if the arrests were related to the bullying episode of the blonde-haired woman — although one clip does show a man who appears to be with her getting his sign taken from him.

Democratic Minnesota Governor's 4-week lockdown banning ALL social gatherings, sparks protest at Tim Walz's mansion

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz announced on Wednesday a rigid month-long lockdown order that bans all social gatherings of people who do not live in the same household, even if participants wear face masks and practice proper social distancing. On Saturday, Minnesotans went to Walz's mansion to protest the drastic lockdown orders.

Walz's severe new coronavirus restrictions, which went into effect on Friday at 11:59 p.m. and will be in place until Dec.18, will shut down bars, restaurants, and breweries, except for takeout, delivery, or walk-up service, according to the MinnPost. The order will also close gyms, indoor sports facilities, theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, go-kart tracks, and other entertainment businesses for an entire month.

Retail businesses, barbershops, and salons are permitted to stay open, but may only operate at 50% capacity.

All youth, high school, and adult sports leagues are prohibited for the next four weeks, but college and professional teams are exempt from the order.

In one of the most extreme measures ever implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, Minnesota will have draconian measures regarding social gatherings.

From the Minnesota Department of Health:

Social gatherings are groups of people who are not members of the same household, congregated together for a common or coordinated social, community, or leisure purpose – even if social distancing can be maintained. This prohibition includes planned and spontaneous gatherings as well as public and private gatherings. Most commercial activities are not considered social gatherings, so this change will not impact most industries.

The harsh restrictions come with punitive penalties, including fines of up to $1,000 or 90 days in prison.

"Any business owner, manager, or supervisor who requires or encourages any of their employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, or interns to violate this Executive Order is guilty of a gross misdemeanor and upon conviction must be punished by a fine not to exceed $3,000 or by imprisonment for not more than a year," Walz's order states. "In addition to those criminal penalties, the Attorney General, as well as city and county attorneys, may investigate and seek any civil relief" of up to $25,000 per occurrence.

The stringent restrictions were not welcomed by many Minnesotans, and some who demanded freedom protested against the new lockdowns outside of Walz's mansion in St. Paul. Many protesters waved American and Trump flags outside the Minnesota governor's residence while they chanted: "U-S-A! U-S-A!"

The crowd hung signs of infamous dictators from history on the fence of the property. Others held signs that dared Walz to arrest them for attending a Thanksgiving gathering with their family.

A car parade protest drove by the governor's mansion and honked their horns.

The crowd also sang "America (My Country, 'Tis of Thee)."

Oregon governor finally activates National Guard to counter violent riots in Portland

The Oregon National Guard was called into Portland after violent riots erupted in the city on Wednesday night. A riot was declared by the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office around 7 p.m. after vandals caused damage in the city.

Police said there were two groups that marched through the streets of Portland, where there have been near-nightly protests and riots since George Floyd's death in late May. Protesters shouted obscenities about Portland's mayor: "F*** Ted Wheeler!"

After months of violent and dangerous riots in Portland, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown finally activated the National Guard to deal with the riots.

Brown deployed 50 National Guard troops in June, but she promised that they were only in Portland as "support personnel" to "care for the injured, processing arrests, directing traffic – much as they do when they are asked to respond to wildfires."

"They will not be on the front lines making arrests or doing crowd control," Brown said. "You don't diffuse violence by having soldiers on our streets. Having soldiers on our streets around America is exactly what President Trump wants. ... I want to ensure that the public can safely raise their voices in this much-needed call for reform."

On Wednesday, the National Guard was on the ground in Portland to help police control the rioters.

The Unified Command issued a statement on the deployment of the National Guard.

"Widespread violence is occurring in Downtown Portland. In the interest of public safety, Governor Kate Brown, under advice of the Unified Command, has activated the use of the Oregon National Guard to assist local law enforcement in responding to any acts of violence, and to maintain public order and ensure community safety. Guard members are trained in crowd control and will be riding with local response teams. Prior to Wednesday's violence, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown extended Monday's executive order calling for the Unified Command, a "joint incident command structure allowing multiple agencies to respond to election-related unrest," according to KOIN. The order was set to expire at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and will now run through 5 p.m. on Friday.

"Across the United States, elections officials are working hard to ensure that every vote is counted, and it may be several days until we know the results of this election," Brown said in a press release on Wednesday. "It's important to trust the process, and the system that has ensured free and fair elections in this country through the decades, even in times of great crisis."

Big 'Freedom Rally' in Beverly Hills ends after attack on Trump supporter by counterprotesters and unlawful assembly declared

In the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton expectedly and handily beat Donald Trump in the overwhelmingly blue Los Angeles County by a margin of 2,464,364 to 769,743. Beverly Hills, which is in the Democratic stronghold of Los Angeles County, has seen several well-attended pro-Trump rallies this election season. On Saturday, the last pro-Trump rally in Beverly Hills before the 2020 presidential election occurred, but it was marred by violence after counterprotesters stoked tensions.

A large group of pro-Trump supporters gathered in Beverly Hills for a festive "USA Freedom Rally" on Saturday afternoon. Later in the day, the rally morphed into a MAGA parade with supporters chanting: "U-S-A! U-S-A!"

However, even before the 3 p.m. rally kicked off, black-clad counterprotesters dressed in tactical gear marched from Roxbury Park towards the USA Freedom Rally. Police separated the two groups for the most part, but at one point a Trump supporter and a mob of counterprotesters converged.

Video shows a throng of demonstrators dressed in all-black swarm a man holding an American flag. Then a person seems to pepper-spray the man with the flag; he retaliated by swinging his flag pole at them. As more members of the mob advance towards him, he takes more swings to keep the distance between them.

A man wearing a black helmet with the acronym "ACAB," which stands for "All Cops Are Bastards," attempts to wrestle the American flag from the Trump supporter. Then several other black-clad members jump in and pummel the man from all sides. One person is seen hitting the Trump supporter in the back of the head with a pole.

The man gets away for a second and then is clobbered again by the mob. They punch, kick, and smash him with objects as he is defenseless on the ground.

Police finally intervene to separate the two groups. The Trump supporter is taken aside for medical attention and was treated by the Beverly Hills Fire Department. The Trump supporter is seen holding his arm in pain and with a bloody face.

Vietnamese Baptist church burned down in Philly riots, but pastor grateful for small miracle: God 'granted our prayer'

The riots in Philadelphia have caused major damage to businesses; at least 200 stores have been looted since the civil unrest erupted this week. For whatever reason, rioters targeted the Vietnam Baptist Church in Philadelphia, and set fire to the building on Tuesday night.

Vietnam Baptist Church Pastor Philip Pham told the Baptist Press, "I have no idea why they attacked our church. They burned it from the roof. They threw flammable chemicals on the roof and [flames] burned through the roof."

Despite the church being a "total loss," the pastor is grateful for a small miracle amidst the destruction.

Pham received a phone call on Tuesday night from a friend informing him that the church was on fire and there were seven fire trucks there to attempt to put out the blaze. Pham deemed that one thing in the church was irreplaceable: three hard drives containing important information.

Before the purchase of the building, the Vietnam Baptist Church served as a community center, which provided assistance with immigration paperwork, taxes, and marriage counseling. More than 15 years of notable documents were on those hard drives.

"I prayed right away: 'God, please protect the hard drives,'" Pham recalled. "Other stuff can be recovered. But those files will never be recovered."

Pham rushed to the church, which was already charred and destroyed.

Despite the destruction to much of the Vietnamese Baptist church from the fire, the hard drives were unscathed – a small miracle bestowed during a time of dismaying anguish.

"I saw the routers and modems and things surrounding the hard drives all burned, melted," Pham recalled. "But that piece of hard drive, no harm. No harm at all. Just two feet above that, all melted. … That is amazing how God knows our needs and answers our prayers. He is an almighty God. He granted our prayer."

Following the burning down of the church and the looting in the city, Pham reminded everyone that rage is not the answer. Pham encouraged youth pastors to stress the words of James 1:20: "The anger of man does not bring about the righteousness of God."

"You cannot use your anger and be justified," Pham articulated. "I would like to bring this message to all the young people."

Pham had comforting words to his church members who were frightened and nervous about the turmoil in Philly.

"So many things we don't know, but God knows, so just trust God," Pham told his congregation. "Just do right. Don't copy [those who practice violence], but do what the Bible says and what He wants us to do. Love them and pray for them that they may know Christ, that the Holy Spirit may convict them and they may seek God."

The Vietnam Baptist Church had been mostly meeting online because of the city's stringent coronavirus restrictions. Pham was attempting to find a nearby school where he could host the church's livestream broadcast this Sunday.

"Remember us in your prayer in time of need like this. The church members here need encouragement," the pastor said. "The majority of us have very strong faith in Christ, but a minority, a few new believers, they need their faith to grow. Pray for their faith to take deep root in the love of God so they can be steadfast in Him. Not focus on the problem, but focus on Jesus. Please remember us in your prayers."

The unnamed female officer reportedly wasn't the only officer to suffer injuries in connection to Monday night's riots.

WCAU-TV reported that at least 30 police officers were injured in the line of duty as violent protesters smashed windows, looted, and set vehicles on fire.

"All the officers, except for the one struck by the truck, had been treated and released as of early Tuesday," WCAU reported.

"Police cars and dumpsters were set on fire as police struggled to contain the crowds," the station's report continued. "More than a dozen officers, many with batons in hand, formed a line as they ran down 52nd Street chasing protesters away from the main thoroughfare. The crowd largely dispersed then."

Authorities also said that at least five police vehicles and one fire department vehicle were vandalized.

At least 30 people were arrested in connection with the riots and looting.

Newsweek reported that Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said that the shooting, and the subsequent video, "raises many questions" and announced an investigation into the incident.

"Residents have my assurance that those questions will be fully addressed by the investigation," Outlaw said. "While at the scene this evening, I heard and felt the anger of the community. Everyone involved will forever be impacted. I will be leaning on what the investigation gleans to answer the many unanswered questions that exist."

"I also plan to join the Mayor in meeting with members of the community and members of Mr. Wallace's family to hear their concerns as soon as it can be scheduled," she added.

After the man lets go, the beating continues. "Don't you let that man take you to f***in' jail!" the same man is heard saying to the attacker.

What happened after help arrived?

Graham told WPDE that there was concern Officer Sale broke a bone around his eye, so he was airlifted to a hospital. He has since been discharged and is recovering at home with his family, the station said in a follow-up story.

Authorities charged Jamel Alphonso Rogers with assault with a deadly weapon with intentions to kill while inflicting serious injuries, kidnapping, and two counts of resisting a public officer, the station said.

Rogers appeared before a judge Monday and his bond was set at $500,000, WPDE said, adding that he's being held at Robeson County Detention Center and that it's unlikely Rogers will make bond.

Graham said Sale was the only officer on duty Friday night, the station said, which is why it took some time for backup to arrive.

"He was working by himself that night," the chief said in a separate story. "That is being worked on."

Graham also told WPDE he wishes others had stepped up to help "because they knew the situation the officer was in."

Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins shared his thoughts about the attack on Facebook:

Officer Sale was surrounded by a crowd outside a store last December when he worked for the Maxton Police Department and was violently beaten by one man in the crowd, the station said. As with this weekend's attack, the incident last year was recorded on cellphone and shared on social media, WPDE said.

1 dead, 2 in custody after fatal shooting in Denver near 'Patriot Rally' and BLM-Antifa counter-protest

Two suspects were taken into custody by police on Saturday afternoon after a person was shot and killed in downtown Denver.

An event dubbed the "Patriot Muster" rally organized by John "Tig" Tiegen was held at 2 p.m. at Denver's Civic Center Park. "It's time we let these communist socialists know we have had enough," a description of the event read. "Fight back, push back. Time to take our country back!"

Once the Denver Communists organization caught wind of the rally, they scheduled a counter-protest called the "BLM-Antifa Soup Drive."

"We scheduled our action after learning that the militia-fascists had called a 'patriot muster' against the Black Lives Matter movement, anti-fascists and Marxists," a spokesperson for Denver Communists said. "That's us — guilty as charged and happy to oblige with our presence."

"The plan is to set up our tables and tents in Civic Center Park, as near as we can be to the fascists," Denver Communists said. "We'll have soup for our family, music, speakers, communist books, and plenty of angry anti-fascist chants."

KUSA reporter Marc Sallinger was covering the rally and the counter-protest.

"Hello from downtown Denver where far-right militia groups are holding a rally," Sallinger wrote on Twitter. "Far-left Black Lives Matter Antifa groups are holding a counter protest nearby."

Police separated the two opposing groups with fences.

At 5:48 p.m. EST, Denver Police's official Twitter account wrote: "Officers are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Courtyard by the Art Museum." The police said the shooting victim was transported to the hospital.

The Denver Police shared updates that two suspects were in custody, and that the shooting was "now being investigated as a Homicide."

"A man participating in what was billed as a 'Patriot Rally' that also included a presence of self-described BLM-Antifa protesters, sprayed mace at another man and that man shot him with a handgun," The Denver Post reported.

Video from the area shows an orange cloud of smoke or vapor followed by the sound of a gunshot. Footage shows Denver Police rush to the scene with guns drawn, then order two men to the ground, including a man dressed in all black with a handgun. Meanwhile, the victim lay motionless on the ground.

Another video features a person screaming, "Die fascist scum!"

Earlier in the day, rival protesters got in each others face. There were also agitators dressed in all black burning a thin blue line flag in front of Denver Police.

At one point, men dressed in all black with umbrellas scream at police for speaking to an older woman. The woman instructs everyone to "relax."
