Clueless John Oliver Calls For States To Crack Down On Post-Covid Homeschooling Wave
Oliver clearly views the recent uptick in homeschoolers as a threat that deserves to be quelled by the state.
John Oliver trashed President Joe Biden for what he said is failing to make good on his campaign promises surrounding immigration and the United States Refugee Admissions Program.
During Sunday night's "Last Week Tonight," Oliver tore into Biden over his administration's failure to address the nation's ongoing refugee crisis.
"The U.S. used to be a world leader in how many refugees we accepted, but this f***ing guy [points to Trump chyron] not only slashed the admissions cap down to a historic annual low of 15,000, he also added discriminatory eligibility categories that have blocked many Muslim and African refugees from coming to the U.S. And to his credit, Biden ran on a platform that included reversing Trump's policies."
He continued, "In early February, Biden announced that he'd raise the ceiling on admissions to over 62,000, eliminate Trump's restrictions, and raise the cap even higher next year, which sounds great. Unfortunately, that was two months ago and he still hasn't signed the presidential determination that revises Trump's rules. And it has been hard to get a straight answer from this administration about why."
He also pointed out that there are nearly 115,000 refugees in various stages of resettlement, and over 35,000 more have been approved for resettlement.
As Biden has yet to sign the presidential determination, those refugees are "still beholden to Trump's low admission ceiling and bulls*** racist rules."
Oliver noted that if refugees' resettlement approvals begin to expire, they are forced to begin the process from the start once more.
"Remember," Oliver warned, "these are vulnerable people who may have surrendered their belongings or homes in anticipation of leaving the country or who are having to wait in camps."
Mocking the president for his "patriotic word salad" speeches, Oliver argued that Biden needs to just buck up and pull the trigger.
“For Biden, this is actually really simple," the HBO host said. "He doesn't need to negotiate with Senate Republicans on this or reckon with Joe Manchin's boner for the filibuster. He just needs to sign a piece of paper. And for a guy who clearly wanted to be the person who restored the soul of America, it is past time to for him to look deep into his own, pick up a f***ing pen, and do the right thing."
Late-night host John Oliver took aim at New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Sunday's "Last Week Tonight" and mocked him over his recent burgeoning list of controversies.
Cuomo stands accused of utilizing bullying and intimidation tactics through his administration, as well as sexual misconduct claims.
Cuomo is also at the center of a COVID-19-related controversy in which he is accused of massively undercounting the death toll in New York nursing homes.
According to a Monday report from Mediate, Oliver called the governor a "colossal a**hole."
Addressing Cuomo's connection to the devastating number of COVID deaths in New York nursing homes and the resulting cover-up, Oliver said, "You'd expect that less from a transparent democracy and more from an authoritarian regime like North Korea."
"Now, this scandal stems from a directive Cuomo made last March, telling nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients to free up hospital beds," Oliver explained. "Now that would be bad enough, but since then, his administration has been trying to downplay consequences from that action."
“Even before the current scandals, there was something gross about Cuomo's glee in his public adulation last year," he added, and insisted that the New York governor is "famously unpleasant."
“He reportedly has a 'Do-not-yell-at' list, which a former aide admitted 'is very small,' and just this week another former aide accused him of sexual harassment — a claim that he denies," Oliver explained. "Although on the same day that story broke, Cuomo was at a vaccination site, and couldn't help himself from joking about vaccinating this state senator."
Oliver pointed to a clip of the Democratic governor joking that he was going to choose a particular part of "the anatomy" for New York state Sen. Leroy Comrie.
"I get to select the part of the anatomy where I do the vaccine, and you'll be surprised — or maybe not — when you get to see the part of the anatomy that I pick," Cuomo joked.
Oliver fired back, "Is it his penis, Andrew? Are you going to vaccinate him in the penis? Because to be honest, I would actually be surprised if you wanted to vaccinate him in the penis. The vein is hard to find, and practitioners general recommend the non-dominant arm, and also — what the f*** is wrong with you?!"
He also blasted Cuomo for "citing motivational quotes from an 'A.J. Parkinson'" — a purportedly fictitious character made up by his father, Mario Cuomo.
“It does feel like a pretty apt metaphor for an administration that has aggressively managed facts to fit its chosen reality," Oliver said. “And it actually brings to mind another insightful saying: Andrew Cuomo is a colossal a**hole."

Visitors to Danbury, Connecticut, will now have the pleasure of viewing — and smelling — the small New England town's newest attraction: the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant.
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton decided to rename the plant in honor of John Oliver after the comedian dragged the town during a segment on his show last week about how computer algorithms in several states, including Connecticut, allegedly exclude black and Hispanic people from jury candidacy at a disproportionate rate.
Boughton made the announcement in a Facebook video Saturday in which he argued the new name is fitting because both the sewer plant and Oliver are "full of crap."
"Today, I am proud to announce our fourth point of interest," Boughton said. "Behind me you'll see the city of Danbury sewer plant. We are going to rename it the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant. Why? Because it's full of crap, just like you, John."
On his show "Last Week Tonight," Oliver cited an Iowa Law Review study that found that a computer program used to select jury candidates in Connecticut excluded residents of Hartford because it erroneously registered the "d" in Hartford to mean "deceased." The study also found that for years no residents from New Britain, Connecticut, were selected either, due to another computer error.
This was bad, Oliver alleged, because a large majority of the state's black and Hispanic residents live in those two cities and thus didn't receive fair representation.
In his rebuke of the state and its supposedly racist outsourced jury selection processes, Danbury got caught in the crossfire.
"If you are going to forget a town in Connecticut, why not forget Danbury, because, and this is true, f*** Danbury!" Oliver said. "From its charming railway museum to its historic hearthstone castle, Danbury, Connecticut, can eat my whole ass."
"I know exactly three things about Danbury," the comedian continued. "USA Today ranked it the second-best city to live in in 2015, it was once the center of the American hat industry, and if you're from there you have a standing invite to come get a thrashing from John Oliver, children included, f*** you."
You can watch the segment below starting at the 5:43 mark.
