Denzel Washington gets emotional talking about the loving legacy his late mother left behind after her recent death

Actor Denzel Washington became visibly emotional during a Wednesday appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" recalling the love his late mother, Lennis Washington, left behind earlier this year.

Lennis passed away in April at the age of 97.

Her obituary stated that she was born in Harlem, New York, in 1924, and would later go on to Marry Rev. Denzel H. Washington Sr. in 1949. The couple raised three children together — daughter Lorice and sons Denzel Jr. and David — and worked as a beautician at the family's Mount Vernon, New York, salon.

What are the details?

A tearful 66-year-old Washington recalled his mother's love during the interview.

“A mother is a son’s first true love," he said. "A son, especially that first son, is a mother’s last true love."

Washington, then becoming tearful, took a lengthy pause and said, “I’m getting choked up. Sorry.”

The award-winning actor tenderly added that his mother was "there for everything."

"And then she went home," he said, later dabbing at his eyes with a tissue.

Washington added that he's not sure if he was his mother's favorite, but that he certainly gave her the hardest time growing up.

"I don't know if I was her favorite, I gave her the hardest time. I can tell you that," he said, and told the audience to show care for their loved ones while they're still able.

What else?

Washington made headlines earlier this month when he turned an interview with the New York Times into a Christian sermon.

He told the outlet that he will tirelessly work to honor God for the rest of his days on this earth.

"If you don't have a spiritual anchor you'll be easily blown by the wind and you'll be led to depression," he told the outlet of his time in Hollywood. "I'm a God-fearing man. I try not to worry. Fear is contaminated faith."

Washington went on to conclude the interview by stating that sin is the ultimate cause of division both within ourselves and our communities.

“The enemy is the inner me," he said. "The Bible says in the last days — I don’t know if it’s the last days, it’s not my place to know — but it says we’ll be lovers of ourselves. The No. 1 photograph today is a selfie, ‘Oh, me at the protest.’ ‘Me with the fire.’ ‘Follow me.’ ‘Listen to me.’ We’re living in a time where people are willing to do anything to get followed. What is the long- or short-term effect of too much information? It’s going fast and it can be manipulated, obviously, in a myriad of ways. And people are led like sheep to slaughter.”

He added, “In heaven, there are going to be two lines, the long line and the short line, and I’m interested in being in the short line.”

Greg Gutfeld delivers delicious Twitter dunk on leftist late-night TV also-ran Stephen Colbert, who mocked Fox News' Christmas tree set on fire

Left-wingers far and wide depend on the likes of Stephen Colbert to pepper their sad social media feeds with witticisms that attempt to take down anything that smells conservative.

Colbert — a late-night TV host who's known for his humor and intellect — tried his best to mock Fox News in regard to the not-exactly-funny moment when a large Christmas tree in front the News Corp. building in midtown Manhattan was set on fire after midnight Wednesday:

Flaming Christmas Tree just got its own show on FoxNews!
— Stephen Colbert (@Stephen Colbert) 1639013754

“Flaming Christmas Tree just got its own show on FoxNews!” Colbert quipped.

So stunning. So brave.

What happened next?

If you can imagine Colbert basking in the glow of digital high fives from his devoted Twitter followers after posting his one-liner — snapping his suspenders and managing a satisfied grin — then also picture someone else coming along to take the wind out Colbert's sails.

And it happened.

None other than Greg Gutfeld — Fox News' own late-night TV host — noticed Colbert's jab at Fox News and couldn't help offering Colbert a great, big cold-water splash of truth:

and its already beating you in the ratings.https://twitter.com/StephenAtHome/status/1468756258668826625\u00a0\u2026
— GregGutfeld (@GregGutfeld) 1639016721

"And it's already beating you in the ratings," Gutfeld replied.

Boom.

Gutfeld's clever pushback that even video of a Christmas tree turning into ashes quickly was outpacing Colbert's own show in the ratings definitely won the day, particularly when measured by Twitter users' reactions.

As of Thursday afternoon, Gutfeld's gut-buster has received over 56,000 likes, while Colbert's far weaker attempt at mockery was lagging way behind at just over 16,000 likes.

The rest of the story

Gutfeld's tweet back at Colbert also is hard to dismiss in terms of accuracy using other metrics.

"Gutfeld!" — a newcomer on the late-night TV scene — made its presence felt immediately. In fact, it got bigger ratings that the late-night shows from Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, and Colbert. for the first time over a whole week way back in August.

And it will come as no surprise that Fox News as a whole is still bludgeoning the competition in the ratings department.

In November, Fox News crushed CNN and MSNBC with an average prime-time audience of 2.578 million viewers; MSNBC netted just over a million total viewers; while CNN lagged far behind at 654,000 viewers, Forbes noted.

The outlet added that Fox News also won in the the key demo of adults 25-54 — which advertisers covet the most — attracting an average audience of 420,000 viewers, while CNN and MSNBC were running on fumes with 148,000 and 140,000 viewers, respectively.

Oh, and about that torched tree

Politico reported that police arrested 49-year-old Craig Tamanaha, who is homeless, for allegedly setting the Christmas tree on fire. Tamanaha was charged with arson, criminal mischief, criminal nuisance, criminal tampering, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, and reckless endangerment, the outlet said.

Tamanaha was freed after his arraignment Wednesday night because his charges were not eligible for bail, the New York Post reported. The paper added that he also allegedly exposed himself outside the Ghislaine Maxwell trial last week.

Jimmy Kimmel, Trevor Noah rip Gov. Andrew Cuomo over sexual misconduct allegations: 'You're so dumb you shouldn't be in office'

Late-night TV hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Trevor Noah hit out at New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) Tuesday night, blasting him for the emergence of sexual misconduct allegations against him.

What's a brief history here?

The remarks came as a third woman on Monday accused the embattled Democrat of sexual harassment, insisting that he made unwanted advances toward her during a 2019 wedding.

Anna Ruch — a former Obama administration employee and Biden 2020 campaign staffer — also provided a photo of the alleged encounter and said that during the wedding, Cuomo placed his hand on the small of her bare back, which was exposed due to the dress she was wearing.

A report from the New York Times noted, "When she removed his hand with her own, Ms. Ruch recalled, the governor remarked that she seemed 'aggressive' and placed his hands on her cheeks. He asked if he could kiss her, loudly enough for a friend standing nearby to hear. Ms. Ruch was bewildered by the entreaty, she said, and pulled away as the governor drew closer."

"I was so confused and shocked and embarrassed," Ruch said. "I turned my head away and didn't have words in that moment."

What did Kimmel say?

During Tuesday night's broadcast of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" the eponymous show's host addressed the new accusations and said, "The craziest part is there's a photo of it. Very rarely does a wedding photographer capture anything interesting at all, but this one did."

"In the span of one month, Andrew Cuomo has somehow done the impossible: He made Bill de Blasio the second most-hated politician in new York," he added.

What did Noah say?

For his part, Noah said that Cuomo fell in one of two camps: willfully ignorant or stupid.

"Sweet Jesus, man, what are you doing?" he asked. "I mean, on the one hand, asking a woman for consent before you kiss them is what you're supposed to do. But the other part of consent is waiting for them to answer. You don't just grab them by the face like a bear yanking on a beehive."

He added, "And it's not like this happened in 1992, and he could be like, 'Well, this was a different time.' This was in 2019. If you're a public official doing this kind of thing after the #MeToo movement, either you just can't help yourself, or you're so dumb you shouldn't be in office anyway."

Noah concluded, "So in light of these allegations, Cuomo is now facing even more calls to resign. Although, if these allegations prove anything, it's that Cuomo doesn't go away when you want him to."

What else is there to know?

Lindsey Boylan, a former Cuomo administration aide, came forward in February and accused the New York governor of sexual impropriety, including allegations of inappropriate physical touching, a non-consensual kiss on the lips, and more.

Last week, Charlotte Bennett — another former Cuomo aide — said that the Democratic lawmaker peppered her with wildly inappropriate questions about her personal sex life and more.

Cuomo said of the sexual harassment allegations, "I never intended to offend anyone or cause any harm. I spend most of my life at work and colleagues are often also personal friends."

"At work sometimes I think I am being playful and make jokes that I think are funny. I do, on occasion, tease people in what I think is a good natured way. I do it in public and in private. You have seen me do it at briefings hundreds of times. I have teased people about their personal lives, their relationships, about getting married or not getting married. I mean no offense and only attempt to add some levity and banter to what is a very serious business," he added.

"I now understand that my interactions may have been insensitive or too personal and that some of my comments, given my position, made others feel in ways I never intended," his statement continued. "I acknowledge some of the things I have said have been misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation. To the extent anyone felt that way, I am truly sorry about that."

He also insisted that he "never inappropriately touched anybody" and "never propositioned anybody" and "never intended to make anyone feel uncomfortable."

Liberal late-night host John Oliver slams 'colossal a**hole' Gov. Andrew Cuomo: 'What the f*** is wrong with you?'!

Late-night host John Oliver took aim at New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Sunday's "Last Week Tonight" and mocked him over his recent burgeoning list of controversies.

Cuomo stands accused of utilizing bullying and intimidation tactics through his administration, as well as sexual misconduct claims.

Cuomo is also at the center of a COVID-19-related controversy in which he is accused of massively undercounting the death toll in New York nursing homes.

What are the details?

According to a Monday report from Mediate, Oliver called the governor a "colossal a**hole."

Addressing Cuomo's connection to the devastating number of COVID deaths in New York nursing homes and the resulting cover-up, Oliver said, "You'd expect that less from a transparent democracy and more from an authoritarian regime like North Korea."

"Now, this scandal stems from a directive Cuomo made last March, telling nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients to free up hospital beds," Oliver explained. "Now that would be bad enough, but since then, his administration has been trying to downplay consequences from that action."

“Even before the current scandals, there was something gross about Cuomo's glee in his public adulation last year," he added, and insisted that the New York governor is "famously unpleasant."

“He reportedly has a 'Do-not-yell-at' list, which a former aide admitted 'is very small,' and just this week another former aide accused him of sexual harassment — a claim that he denies," Oliver explained. "Although on the same day that story broke, Cuomo was at a vaccination site, and couldn't help himself from joking about vaccinating this state senator."

Oliver pointed to a clip of the Democratic governor joking that he was going to choose a particular part of "the anatomy" for New York state Sen. Leroy Comrie.

"I get to select the part of the anatomy where I do the vaccine, and you'll be surprised — or maybe not — when you get to see the part of the anatomy that I pick," Cuomo joked.

Oliver fired back, "Is it his penis, Andrew? Are you going to vaccinate him in the penis? Because to be honest, I would actually be surprised if you wanted to vaccinate him in the penis. The vein is hard to find, and practitioners general recommend the non-dominant arm, and also — what the f*** is wrong with you?!"

He also blasted Cuomo for "citing motivational quotes from an 'A.J. Parkinson'" — a purportedly fictitious character made up by his father, Mario Cuomo.

“It does feel like a pretty apt metaphor for an administration that has aggressively managed facts to fit its chosen reality," Oliver said. “And it actually brings to mind another insightful saying: Andrew Cuomo is a colossal a**hole."
