Arkansas teacher on leave for allegedly forcing 5-year-old to pull feces out of toilet 'with his bare hands'

An Arkansas teacher has been placed on administrative leave over allegations that she forced a kindergartner to pull feces and toilet paper out of a clogged toilet with his hand.

What are the details?

Ashley Murry's 5-year-old son came home from Crystal Hill Elementary School in Little Rock earlier this week and told her what happened, leaving her "horrified."

"It's degrading for a child so I don't feel like any child should have to go through this," Murry told KARK-TV, who reported that the child dug out the contents of the toilet "with his bare hands."

The mother added, "They basically made him go in the toilet and get his feces and the dirty tissue out of the toilet."

Murry alerted her mother, Tami Murry, of the incident, and the grandmother took to social media and calling local media outlets to report the ordeal.

"You want a child to put their hand in there physically and clean out the commode? No no no no no," Tami Murry told the station. "He's not a janitor, he's not a custodian, he's not maintenance, no, not at all."

In a Facebook post, Tami Murry said her grandson "is a young black male and this was done to degrade him, belittle him, and it will cause him to have anxiety." She added, "I don't know if it's racism or pure dislike for him, but something isn't right!!!!!"

Ashley Murry said that the teacher called her personally over the matter.

"She got on the phone with me and she said she didn't have an explanation, she just knew she was wrong," Ashley Murry recalled. "But she stated to the principal that she was trying to teach how not to stop up the toilet."

"I told her that's not good enough for me," the mother said, telling KARK that the teacher "needs to be terminated because you don't treat kids like this. He is a kid."

Officials at the Pulaski County Special School District said they were actively investigating the claim and that the teacher has been place on administrative leave in the meantime.

Anything else?

KATV-TV reported that this isn't the first such allegation that has been lodged against a teacher at Crystal Creek Elementary.

According to the outlet:

The mother of another Crystal Hill Elementary School kindergartener said the same thing happened to her daughter under a different teacher in the fall. The girl used too much toilet paper and was asked to pull it out with her bare hands, according to her mother. She contacted the school district who told her there would be an investigation.

"This is a common occurrence at this school it seems," the mother told the outlet. "I told them, 'I pay my taxes so you can have janitors at the school, not kids unclogging toilets.'"

Trump fires back at Wall Street Journal editorial board after they urge GOP to leave him behind

Former President Donald Trump fired back at the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, issuing a statement saying the editorial board has "lost great credibility" after they published a piece asking, "If he was so great politically for the GOP, why is the party now out of power?"

What are the details?

In an editorial printed Monday, the board wrote that "as long as Republicans focus on the grievances of the Trump past, they won't be a governing majority," lambasting the former president while chiding, "if 2020 was so fabulous, why are Republicans shut out of power up and down Pennsylvania Avenue?"

The Journal pointed to Trump losing to President Joe Biden by 7 million votes and blamed the former president for Republicans losing in January's Georgia Senate runoff races — which handed Democrats control of the upper chamber.

Trump wrote in response:

"The Wall Street Journal editorial page continues, knowingly, to fight for globalist policies such as bad trade deals, open borders, and endless wars that favor other countries and sell out our great American workers, and they fight for RINOS that have so badly hurt the Republican Party. That's where they are and that's where they will always be. Fortunately, nobody cares much about The Wall Street Journal editorial anymore. They have lost great credibility."

He went on to blame "Georgia Republican leadership and Governor [Brian] Kemp (R)" in what he called "a rigged election," along with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for the Senate flipping blue.

The Hill noted that "Many Republicans believe Trump's claims suppressed the GOP vote in rural Georgia, where some voters didn't think their ballots would count, and in the Atlanta suburbs, where right-leaning independents were turned off by the GOP infighting and claims about a conspiracy."

Anything else?

Thursday evening, the WSJ editorial board wrote another piece in response, hitting out at Trump again.

"For someone who says we don't matter, he sure spends a lot of time reading and responding to us," they said of the former president, adding, "thanks for the attention."

The paper stood by its original piece, doubling down and writing:

Losing to Joe Biden of all people, and by 7.1 million votes as an incumbent President, must be painful. Counseling could be in order. Any good analyst will explain that the first step toward recovery is to accept reality. The same applies to Republican voters who want to win back Congress in 2022 and the White House in 2024.

Oregon nurse placed on leave over TikTok video where she dismissed COVID-19 guidelines

An oncology nurse at a hospital in Salem, Oregon, has been placed on leave by her employer after she posted a TikTok video suggesting she flouts coronavirus guidelines outside of work.

Her employer, Salem Health, issued a statement saying her video message "displayed a cavalier disregard for the seriousness of this pandemic."

What are the details?

The nurse, identified by Salem Health as Ashley Grames in an interview with Buzzfeed, posted a TikTok video under the username @Loveiskind05 over the weekend that quickly went viral. In the clip, Grames can be seen wearing scrubs with a stethoscope around her neck while she pretends to "scream" in sync with audio from the movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

The caption reads, "When my coworkers find out I still travel, don't wear a mask when I'm out and let my kids have play dates."

Grames' account has since been deleted along with the video, but a video made by another nurse reacting to Grames' video is still being widely circulated.

A day after Grames posted her video, Salem Health issued a statement announcing that she had been placed on leave pending an investigation into her actions, saying the clip "displayed cavalier disregard for the seriousness of this pandemic and her indifference towards physical distancing and making outside of work."

The hospital noted that the "video has prompted an outcry from concerned community members," and added that Grames "does not speak for Salem Health."

More than 1,600 people reacted to Salem Health's statement on Facebook over the video, overwhelmingly calling for Grames to be terminated.

One person wrote, "No investigation needed. The video supplied should be evidence enough. She needs to be FIRED. Not on PAID leave. As someone fighting cancer, I can only imagine how her patients feel after seeing this news. Their opinion on your hospital and nurses in general are now ruined due to this woman's actions. And even though you say that her views do not represent your hospital, you still employed her. You need to take responsibility by firing her, not putting her on leave."

Another responded, "The videos flying around are proof. There should be no investigation. Fire her and take away any of her licenses. She doesn't deserve to be a nurse if all she's going to do is endanger some of the most immunocompromised people. She's a mockery to the healthcare field. They take an oath to do whatever they can to help their patients, not potentially bring in a virus that can kill them because they are selfish."

According to The Hill, "Salem Hospital has the highest employee-related count of any hospital in Oregon, according to data released by the state last week."
