Pseudo-court fines town for refusing to fly imperial LGBT flag. Emo mayor ordered to undergo re-education says he won't pay.

A pseudo-court recently fined a small Canadian town and its mayor for refusing in a 3-2 vote to proclaim the month of June "Pride Month" and to hoist the LGBT activists' colors. According to the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, a failure to oblige the activist group Borderland Pride constitutes discrimination.

Harold McQuaker, a small construction business owner and the mayor of the Township of Emo, Ontario — just north of the Minnesota border — remains defiant, telling the Toronto Sun Monday, "I utterly refuse to pay the $5,000 because that's extortion."

McQuaker indicated that the town council, on which he has the deciding vote, will together determine what to do about the $10,000 the court ordered Emo to pay — a sum the Sun indicated is "tougher than most criminals ever receive."

"I have a lot of respect for our four councilors," said McQuaker. "We have a special meeting of council, and they will decide that and what to do next. Either pay the fine or appeal it?"

'There's no flags being flown for the straight people.'

Following the ruling, Borderland Pride gleefully noted that McQuaker might also have to reimburse taxpayers for the legal fees associated with his years-long defense, which are estimated to total at least six figures.

Extra to imposing the monetary penalties for a democratic vote unfavorable to outside radicals, Karen Dawson of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario — a nonjudicial government entity that nonetheless issues judicial-like rulings — also ordered McQuaker and the current chief administrative officer of the township to complete the woke tribunal's re-education program, titled "Human Rights 101," having determined that the Municipal Act of 2001 did not protect council members from liability under the Human Rights Code for supposedly discriminatory actions.

After all, McQuaker dared point out during a council meeting that "there's no flag being flown for the other side of the coin. … There's no flags being flown for the straight people."

'We just don't have a flagpole at our town hall.'

The so-called eLearning Module of "Human Rights 101" claims that discrimination can be overt, hidden, constructive, and systemic. Apparently, where the tribunal is concerned, perceived offense rather than intent is what actually counts. In other words, someone's anodyne remark or neutral behavior could be discriminatory depending on the interpretation of a thin-skinned ideologue.

"I will not pay the $5,000 I have been fined and will not take the training," McQuaker told the Sun. "I did not do anything wrong."

"If anybody needs training it's the LGBTQ2+ to quit pushing their weight around and make demands that people can't live with," added McQuaker.

Contrary to the regional activist group's suggestion, McQuaker insisted the claims of prejudice are all projection.

"I don't hate anybody," said McQuaker. "We just don't have a flagpole at our town hall."

'This is about the unilateral power of an unelected, unaccountable government agency to compel speech.'

"I am a husband to my wife for 51 years, father of two, a grandfather of seven and a great grandfather of one," he said. "I consider myself a very reasonable person and a good leader for our community and I would have a lot of support if there was an election."

Borderland Pride, ever difficult to please, lashed out at McQuaker over his comments Monday, stating, "What we are seeing is a public temper tantrum from an elected official who has been emboldened by the pattern of attacks on institutions and the rule of law from the political right. It is disturbing, inappropriate, and unlawful."

"Mayor McQuaker's comments reflect a flagrant disrespect for the laws governing his public office, and he should withdraw them," continued the activist group. "Mayor McQuaker is further governed by a municipal code of conduct, which requires him to respect the authority of the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. He can be sanctioned by the integrity commissioner for failing to do so. We would caution him from engaging in any further misconduct of this nature. It is very clearly beneath the expectations and requirements of his office."

Allan Stratton, a gay Canadian playwright who has long engaged in LGBT activism, blasted Borderland Pride in a recent op-ed for the National Post, writing, "This is about the unilateral power of an unelected, unaccountable government agency to compel speech."

Stratton noted further that this case demonstrates the pseudo-court has "lost sight of its mission, broke public confidence in its legitimacy and provided a counter-productive example of left-wing authoritarianism."

'Disgraceful': White House flies 'Progress Pride flag' at largest LGBTQ event ever held at South Lawn, Biden calls attendees 'bravest and most inspiring people'

The White House hosted the largest LGBTQ event in its history on Saturday. The White House hosted an "all-American picnic" on the South Lawn to celebrate "America’s LGBTQ families" for Pride month.

President Joe Biden told the crowd on the South Lawn, "Today, I want to send a message to the entire community — especially to transgender children: You are loved. You are heard. You’re understood. And you belong."

Biden claimed, "For all the progress we’ve made, we know challenges still remain. When a person can be married in the morning but thrown out of a restaurant for being gay in the afternoon, something is still very wrong in America."

Biden slammed Republican-led states for passing laws prohibiting teachers from discussing gender or sexuality with young students, restricting sexualized drag queen shows in front of minors, and banning transgender surgery for underage children.

"When families across the country face excruciating decisions to relocate to a different state to protect their child from dangerous anti-LGTBQ laws, we have to act," Biden declared while standing on a stage decorated with rainbow colors. "We need to push back against the hundreds of callous and cynical bills introduced in states targeting transgender children, terrifying families and criminalizing doctors and nurses."

"These bills and laws attack the most basic values and freedoms we have as Americans," the president asserted.

Biden told the crowd that protecting LGBTQ rights around the world is a "top priority" for his foreign policy.

President Biden lauded the attendees for having "courage" and being "some of the bravest and most inspiring people" he's ever known.

Biden said of the LGBTQ families at the Pride month picnic on the South Lawn of the White House, "We all talk about courage. Well, I see more courage on this lawn than I’ve seen in any time in the recent past."

"But the thing about y’all is: You not only are about courage. You generate so much hope for people. Hope and light," he continued. "You enrich every part of American life: educators, entertainers, entrepreneurs, athletes, actors, artists, scientists, scholars, diplomats, doctors, service members, veterans, and so much more."

Biden proclaimed, "As I said — I mean this; I swear to God — you’re some of the most — you’re some of the bravest and most inspiring people I’ve ever known. And I’ve known a lot of good folks."

He added, "You set an example for the nation and, quite frankly, for the world."

Biden wrote on Twitter, "Today, the People's House – your house – sends a clear message to the country and to the world. America is a nation of pride."

Proudly displaying the "Pride Progress flag" from the White House in front of the American flag incensed conservatives on Twitter.

BlazeTV's Chad Prather: "This is DISGRACEFUL. Why is the AMERICAN flag surrounding the pride flag?? This nonsense has to end!!!"

TheBlaze columnist and "Fearless" host Jason Whitlock: "This man is allegedly a Catholic. He surely was taught the sin of 'pride.' Proverbs 16:5 'The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.' 'A nation of pride.' What's next: 'A nation of lust, envy'"

TheBlaze columnist and podcast host Auron MacIntyre: "If anything the religious right greatly underestimated what would come next."

Former Trump advisor Stephen Miller: "America has been humiliated, debauched and debased. A warning about how civilizations unravel from within."

Ben Shapiro: "Not one American soldier fought and bled for this flag. Not one American taxpayer paid taxes to the government of this flag. Not one law has been passed under a government elected under under this flag. The ideological coup is complete."

Jeremy Boreing: "Government buildings should fly the flag of our nation, the flags of our military, the flags of the various states, and the flags of the nations of visiting heads of state. All other flags are inappropriate."

Dr. Jordan B Peterson: "And pride goeth before a fall."

US Embassies To Fly LGBTQ ‘Progress’ Flags, Blinken Says

'We've given our chiefs of missions and ambassadors authority to do that'

Biden admin grants authorization to fly LGBT pride flag at embassies on same official pole as American flag

The Biden administration has given blanket authorization to fly LGBT pride flags at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world. The rainbow flag — a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride — will be permitted to fly on the same official flagpoles that fly the American flag.

The new policy was announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, which repeals the decision by his predecessor Mike Pompeo during former President Donald Trump's tenure at the White House.

U.S. diplomatic outposts are given "blanket written authorization ... to display the Pride flag on the external-facing flagpole, for the duration of the 2021 Pride season," the cable said, according to ABC News. The cable was reportedly sent out this week, a little more than a month before Pride Month is celebrated in June and only weeks before International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia on May 17.

According to the cable, the Biden administration recognized that the LGBT gesture could be seen as inflammatory in certain countries.

"The cable contained a hedge, though, saying the authorization is not a requirement and chiefs of mission who run each embassy or consulate can choose whether to fly the Pride flag or showcase other symbols connoting support for LGBTQ rights based on what is 'appropriate in light of local conditions,'" as reported first by Foreign Policy.

"As a matter of policy, the United States does not advocate for or against same-sex marriage abroad," the confidential cable reportedly stated, adding that American outposts are encouraged to back "efforts to advance the fundamental freedoms of opinion and expression, peaceful assembly, and association ... Discussions of same-sex marriage may result in backlash against LGBTQI+ communities in certain contexts hence posts should consult with local advocates on messaging and outreach on this issue."

During his confirmation hearing in January, Blinken said, "I think the United States playing the role that it should be playing in standing up for and defending the rights of LGBTQ people is something that the (State) Department is going to take on and take on immediately," At the time, Blicken also promised to quickly fill the empty position of LGBTI envoy, which he declared to be "a matter, I think, of some real urgency."

The State Department provided a comment to the New York Post on the policy reversal, "President Biden believes that America's strength is found in its diversity. America is stronger, at home and around the world, when it is inclusive."

"Recognizing that each country context is different, U.S. embassies and consulates develop individual plans to raise awareness of violence, human rights abuses, and discrimination targeting LGBTQI+ persons, including appropriate exterior displays," the statement said.

The Trump administration permitted U.S. outposts to display LGBT signaling on other parts of the properties after getting permission from the State Department's Office of Management, but forbid any flags from flying on the same pole as Old Glory. In 2019, several American embassies defied the Trump administration's order and flew LGBT flags in honor of Pride Month. The U.S. embassy in South Korea hung a massive LGBT flag and Black Lives Matter flag on the facade of the building, but later removed them after orders from the State Department.

In 2019, then-Vice President Mike Pence defended the adjudgment to not allow the sexuality-related flag to be flown next to the Stars and Stripes. "As the president said on the night we were elected, we're proud to be able to serve every American," he told NBC News. "We both feel that way very passionately, but when it comes to the American flagpole, and American embassies, and capitals around the world, one American flag flies."
