Teen suspended for using legal term for migrant invaders comes out on top, will likely receive apology from school board

A 16-year-old student was suspended from Central Davidson High School in Lexington, North Carolina, last year for uttering the term "illegal alien" during a vocabulary lesson in English class. In addition to his temporary removal, Christian McGhee was effectively characterized as a racist for making what the school's vice principal Eric Anderson claimed was a "racially insensitive remark that caused a class disturbance."

The class environment that McGhee returned to was apparently so hostile — rife with bullying and threats — that his parents had to take him out of school. According to the Liberty Justice Center, the firm that sued the Davidson County Board of Education on McGhee's behalf alleging violations of his First and 14th Amendment rights, the minor ended up completing the semester through a homeschooling program.

'School officials have effectively fabricated a racial incident out of thin air.'

Court documents obtained by the Carolina Journal reveal that the school board is now willing to concede that the teen's language in class — language used by Congress, the North Carolina General Assembly, and the U.S. Supreme Court — wasn't racist after all and to pay up.

McGhee's lawsuit claimed that on April 9, 2024, the teen was permitted to use the restroom during English class. Upon his return, he found the class engaged in discussion where the word "aliens" came up. The lawsuit claimed that McGhee asked for clarification on the type of aliens being referenced — whether "space aliens or illegal aliens who need green cards."

A Hispanic student subsequently joked that he was going to "kick [McGhee's] ass."

Both teens were later hauled into Anderson's office. The complaint alleged that when the Hispanic teen told Anderson he was not offended, the vice principal intimated that he should be, noting McGhee's words "were a big deal."

McGhee was ultimately suspended and notified that "there shall be no right to an appeal of the principal's decision to impose a short term suspension (10 days or less) to the Superintendent or Board of Education."

Dean McGee, senior counsel for educational freedom at the Liberty Justice Center, stated after filing the lawsuit last year, "School officials have effectively fabricated a racial incident out of thin air and branded our client as a racist without even giving him an opportunity to appeal."

Nearly a year into the legal battle, the school board blinked.

'Through your reckless attempt to slander my name, you have successfully re-traumatized my family.'

A Friday court filing indicates that the DCBE and the McGhee family have reached a settlement which, if approved by the judge, will have the school board publicly apologize to the teen and fork over $20,000 in compensation to resolve the litigation. The Carolina Journal indicated that the compensation is supposed to help the family with the cost of the teen's new private school.

While the DCBE maintains that the suspension was appropriate due to class disruption, it also agreed to "remove any reference to race or racial bias as a motive for the comments from his educational record, which contains no other incidences of discipline related to racial bias," said the court documents.

Additionally, the DCBE acknowledged "the inappropriate response to this matter by a sitting member," apparently referencing former school board member Ashley Carroll's reported smear of the teen's mother online.

Leah McGhee, the plaintiff's mother, alleged last year that despite hearing nothing back from school officials about the possibility of an appeal, "two board members did choose to send messages to county leaders and residents with my personal arrest record from 14 years ago and encourage them to post this on social media."

Leah McGhee noted further that the posts allegedly shared online by board members Carroll and Alan Beck omitted mention of her reintegration into society and her work since helping people with addiction.

"Through your reckless attempt to slander my name, you have successfully re-traumatized my family," said Leah McGhee. "Your weak attempt to assault my character has failed, but your malicious character has been highlighted. It is my opinion that two members on this board are highly corrupt."

Carroll resigned in April after being charged with DWI after getting into a car crash that reportedly injured a teen student in the district. Her departure may account for why the settlement references only a confidential apology from a single board member over Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

"On Friday, we filed a motion asking the court to approve a settlement that would resolve this matter," Dean McGee told the Carolina Journal. "Because Christian is a minor, a court hearing is required before the settlement can become final. We'll have more to say after that hearing, but we're pleased to take this important step toward clearing our client's name."

Student asks if 'alien' on vocab assignment refers to space aliens or illegal aliens and is SUSPENDED for racism, family gets death threats

The woke mind virus is rampant in public education. No school perhaps better exemplifies the insidiousness of progressivism than Central Davidson High School in North Carolina where last April, 16-year-old student athlete Christian McGee was suspended for asking his teacher a question regarding a vocabulary assignment.

Christian’s question was deemed racially insensitive — “the equivalent of saying the n-word.” His suspension resulted in him receiving three days of out-of-school suspension, causing him to miss a “season-defining track meet.” Further, Christian’s family “got all sorts of death threats.”

What could Christian have possibly asked to elicit such virulent backlash?

Whether the word “alien” on an English vocabulary assignment referred to “space aliens or illegal aliens who need green cards.”

The incident has evolved into a lawsuit, as Christian’s parents are now suing the school district for violating their son’s First and Fourth Amendment rights.

However, the Davidson Board of Education has brought forth “some new evidence,” Sara Gonzales reports.

“So years ago, Leah McGee had an addiction problem, and she had a criminal history,” but “she's recovered, and she dedicates her life as an advocate helping others stay off of the wrong path,” says Sara, adding that Leah “was even appointed to a Brunswick County addiction commission by a superior court judge.”

“But that didn't stop several of the Board of Education members from disseminating Leah's old mugshot and her record in an effort to disparage her and her son's name.”

“So, now we find out board chair Alan Beck is accused of texting false allegations to a state senator saying that Christian had been thrown out of several schools and that Leah has a history of harassment,” Sara explains.

Further, “Another board member Ashley Carroll sent text messages to another community leader making a false claim that Christian was kicked out of multiple schools for being a racist.”

Today, Christian’s mother, Leah McGee, and her attorney join Sara Gonzales to discuss the story in detail and provide updates regarding the lawsuit.

Parental rights champion demands answers after Facebook allegedly branded her with child sexual abuse warning

A California-based champion for parental rights recently discovered that searches for her name on Instagram and Facebook prompted a warning stating, "Child sexual abuse is illegal."

Sonja Shaw, president of the Chino Valley Unified School District and a Christian mother, is now demanding answers from the tech giant, which has allegedly done this to parental rights advocates on more than one occasion.

Background

Shaw has won the loathing of radical leftists for cluing parents in to what's happening with their children at school and enabling parents to challenge obscene content made accessible to students.

Under her leadership, CVUSD became the first district in the state to embrace a policy whereby school officials must inform parents if their kids request to use the bathroom intended for members of the opposite sex as well as if their confused children ask to use names and pronouns that don't correspond with reality or their official documents, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Shaw and other CVUSD officials have been threatened for taking this stand.

The Mercury News reported that Berkeley resident Rebecca Morgan was arrested on Aug. 1 on suspicion of threatening Shaw and others. Shaw indicated the vicious threats targeted not only her but her children and pets as well.

Like Morgan, the Newsom administration was also apparently prickled by Shaw's defiance of gender ideology.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta took legal action against Shaw's district on Aug. 28, claiming it violated privacy laws regarding transvestite students. In October, a San Bernardino County Superior Court judge blocked the district from enforcing some of the related policies until the case was resolved.

It's not just deranged threats and an antipathetic state government that Shaw has had to deal with.

Tactically branded

The Liberty Justice Center, which represents Shaw, penned a letter Tuesday to Meta Platforms' chief legal officer, Jennifer Newstead, noting that public searches for Shaw's name turned up the following message: "Child sexual abuse is illegal[.] We think that your search might be associated with child sexual abuse."

"Child sexual abuse or viewing sexual imagery of children can lead to imprisonment and other sever personal consequences," continues the Facebook warning. "This abuse causes extreme harm to children and searching and viewing such material adds to that harm. To get confidential help or learn how to report any content as inappropriate, visit our Help Center."

Users seeking Shaw or information about her on the Meta platforms were then allegedly given two options: see how to report child sex abuse content or get help.

According to the Liberty Justice Center, this "egregiously false statement" implied that Shaw "herself has been associated with child sexual abuse, which of course is FALSE."

Shaw and the legal group are skeptical that this was a mistake, noting that something similar happened to Nick Wilson, a Republican running for election to the California State Assembly.

RedState indicated that the problem affecting the parental rights advocates persisted until various high-profile users began drawing attention to the error.

Alex Villanueva, a former Los Angeles County Sheriff awaiting the results for how he fared in a primary election for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, noted Monday that "Meta has moved from shadow banning/throttling to outright trolling of those who defend children from abuse and/or support parental rights."

Buck Dougherty, senior counsel with the Liberty Justice Center, noted in a statement that "what is additionally troubling about Meta's false publication is that it appears to be calculated to retaliate against Ms. Shaw for her outspoken support and advocacy on behalf of parental rights in pending litigation by the California Attorney General against the Chino Valley Unified School District."

While acknowledging that Meta has since taken corrective action, the Liberty Justice Center said Shaw "has further concerns."

The Liberty Justice Center demanded an explanation as well as written assurance that Meta and its employees would not falsely brand Shaw again.

The firm further noted that "Ms. Shaw intends to exhaust all available legal remedies available to her on her own behalf, as well as Chino Valley Unified School District's behalf" to address the alleged efforts by Meta and its employees to "improperly interfere with ongoing litigation in California courts" involving the parental rights advocate and the CVUSD.

Shaw wrote on X, "Disgusted and horrified by Meta's baseless attack. No proof, just retaliation for defending parental rights???? Stand strong with me against their cowardly and despicable tactics. #TruthPrevails."
