Lincoln Memorial vandalized with pro-Palestine graffiti and red paint
The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., was vandalized with pro-Palestinian messages, with paint splattered across the steps leading up to the memorial.
Messages of "Free Palestine," "Free Gaza," and "Give Land Back" were spray-painted on a wall, with the paint spread across stairs near the west side of the building near Lincoln Memorial Circle and the Reflecting Pool, SCNR reported.
Video showed the area between the pool and the memorial cordoned off as cleaning crews were scraping, power-washing, and otherwise attempting to remove the graffiti that was painted directly on the ground.
In some areas the paint was poured indiscriminately, forcing cleaning crews to use shovels to chip away at the solidified mounds.

An investigation is reportedly ongoing as the area is temporarily closed.
U.S. Park Police and the National Park Service said that the removal process could take several days, according to The Hill.
Over the course of recent months, several offices in D.C. have reported vandalism incidents related to the Israel-Palestine war. Even congressional members have seen phrases spray-painted at their place of work or even their homes.
Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman (N.Y.) reportedly said that his New York City district office was spray-painted with slogans like "Free Palestine," "Let Gaza Live," and "Blood on ur hands," according to The Hill.
Rep. Adam Smith (Wash.), another Democrat, said his home in Washington state was vandalized after a synagogue in his district was also defaced.
Smith said the residential vandals were "people advocating for a ceasefire in Israel and Gaza."

The Lincoln Memorial has been the target of political activism several times in the last few years under both President Biden and President Trump.
In May 2021, over 1,000 pro-Palestine demonstrators picketed on the steps of the memorial during an Israel/Hamas ceasefire, SCNR noted.
As well, Black Lives Matter activists vandalized the memorial during the infamous Summer of Love riots in 2020, also known as the George Floyd riots.
Phrases such as "Yall not tired yet?" and "do black vets count?" were written on the memorial and on the outside of the pool.
