NYC man filmed hacking police with machete won't be charged with attempted murder

A deranged Brooklyn man was caught on film last week hacking at NYPD officers with a machete. Although wounded in the attack, the officers nevertheless managed to subdue the suspect.

This bloodletting was apparently not enough to convince a New York City grand jury to hold 40-year-old Jean Blain accountable for his alleged actions. While willing to hit Blain with some lesser charges, the jury decided not to indict him with attempted murder.

NYPD officers were called to an apartment on New York Avenue near Beverley Road around 3:20 p.m. on Jan. 22, following reports of a man acting erratically, reported the New York Daily News.

Officers reportedly spoke to Blain's family prior to engaging him.

The New York Post indicated that Blain has been arrested on at least three other occasions and has a history of emotional disturbances. In 2015, he was arrested for reportedly exposing his genitals to women in Times Square. On another occasion, he was arrested for allegedly stealing his neighbor's car.

Footage of the incident shows Blain, who reportedly also goes by "Insane Blain," beginning to freak out as officers calmly attempt to make the arrest.

"No! No! No!" roars Blain, still seated on his bed.

"Please be cooperative," responds one of the officers.

"You know what?" shouts Blain, sliding a hand under the sheets and grabbing a hidden machete. "F*** that."

The deranged man stands on the bed and raises the machete.

Someone off-camera yells, "Oh sh**, look out!" as Blain begins hacking repeatedly at the officers.

Police indicated that Blain slashed a 40-year-old sergeant on the right side of the head. Another was slashed on the wrist while attempting to subdue the attacker. The third officer was reportedly struck by the machete on the shoulder.

The officers were taken to Kings County Hospital and have since been discharged.

Sources told the Post that Blain, who was ordered held without bail Wednesday, had allegedly slashed another victim two weeks earlier, cutting the victim's ear and hand just three blocks away in an unrelated, unprovoked attack.

The victim, Giovanty Guinea, told the Post, "I just went to get my coffee and he came out of the store."

"He asked me, 'What do you want?'" continued Guinea. "I didn't say anything and he just attacked me. I didn't know what to do. I just ran."

"I just want justice," added Guinea. "He tried to kill me. That's never happened to me before. And he tried to kill me."

Blain has not yet been charged in connection to Guinea's attack.

Despite his alleged history of violence and the distinct possibility that any machete stroke could have been life-ending, a grand jury decided during Blain's appearance in Brooklyn Criminal Court that he should be spared from attempted murder charges largely due to his supposed mental instability.

The Daily News noted he was, however, ultimately charged with assault, menacing, and weapon possession.

Vincent Vallelong, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, indicated in a letter to members that the grand jury "refused to indict him for Attempted Murder and were undecided on charges of Assault in the First Degree."

"This unbalanced justice system has created an unprecedented dangerous environment," wrote Vallelong. "Had the machete not been dull, we would have been attending at least one police funeral, possibly more. Why is this case not eligible for remand? Who takes responsibility if this deranged man harms or kills others while he is free awaiting trial?"

Vallelong stressed that New York City officials "have proven that they are clueless in how to address real-life daily dangers that so many New Yorkers are needlessly facing."

Blain is currently being held in psychiatric ward as investigators look into his alleged attack on Guinea.

Blain's apparent machete attack came just days before a mob of illegal aliens viciously assaulted NYPD officers. The migrant mob was released without bail shortly thereafter.

Dashcam footage shows horrifying moment angry motorist swings machete at motorbike rider in road-rage attack

Police arrested a Florida man on Monday after dashcam footage captured him assaulting a fellow motorist with a machete.

Miami Springs police arrested Luis Ruiz-Herrera on Monday over his alleged involvement in a "road rage incident" that was caught on video. The assault took place last Friday, Sept. 29.

It's not immediately clear what proceeded the incident, but the video shows Ruiz-Herrera attack a motorbike rider with a machete, according to police.

"Ruiz-Herrera exited his vehicle armed with a machete ... and approached the victim who was in traffic, on his motor scooter," Miami Springs police said in a statement.

"The victim was able to dismount his motor scooter in time and retreat backwards as Ruiz-Herrera closed the gap between them. Ruiz-Herrera swung the machete at the victim making contact with the left side of his face," police explained. "Ruiz-Herrera fled the scene immediately after."

Despite the victim dodging the machete, police said the tip of the weapon made contact with his face, causing minor injuries.

Thanks to the driver whose dashcam captured the shocking assault, Miami Springs police quickly identified Ruiz-Herrera and took him into custody.

Upon his arrest, Ruiz-Herrera allegedly told police the victim "verbally disrespected his mother," WFOR-TV reported. Still, Ruiz-Herrera was remorseful, law enforcement said.

Ruiz-Herrera was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. In Florida, the crime is a second-degree felony, punishable by a maximum of 15 years in prison. A judge set his bond at $10,000.

At the end of the day, Miami Springs Police Chief Armando Guzman is thankful the incident did result in something worse.

"It could have cut [the victim's] head off. It could have at least cut an artery, and he would have bled off really fast," Guzman told WPLG-TV. "With all the years I've been doing this, it's got to the point where nothing really surprises me anymore. But when you see it live like that, it's real, it's happening."

Machete-wielding professor who threatened to 'chop' up reporter is arrested — but she claims to be the real victim

Shellyne Rodriguez, the machete-wielding now-former Hunter College professor, surrendered to police on Thursday.

Police hit Rodriguez with criminal charges of harassment and menacing, according to the New York Post, after she allegedly threatened a reporter with a machete.

More from the Post:

A smirking Shellyne Rodriguez, 45, held her head high as she was escorted out of the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx in handcuffs just after 11 a.m. — several hours after turning herself in over Tuesday’s caught-on-camera ordeal.

The professor had her slew of tattoos on full display, including “FTP” (for “F**k the police”) inked on her fingers, as well as an image of brass knuckles and the boxing term “southpaw” scrawled across her hand.

What is the background?

On Tuesday, a New York Post reporter and photographer knocked on Rodriguez's apartment door, hoping to question her about a recent incident in which she was caught on camera cursing at Hunter College pro-life students.

But the now-former assistant art professor was not interested in talking.

"Get the f*** away from my door or I'm gonna chop you up with this machete," she screamed at the journalists.

At one point during the interaction, Rodriguez put the blade of her machete on the reporter's neck, video shows. Then, after the journalists left the building, Rodriguez chased them down and allegedly assaulted the reporter, kicking him in the shins.

Fortunately, she did not make good on her threat to butcher the journalists.

Still, after being sacked from Hunter College, Rodriguez released a statement in which she portrayed herself as the real victim.

The ordeal, she claimed, has "taken a toll on my mental health, robbing me of my sense of safety, and creating reasonable fear that they would show up at my home to cause me physical harm, as has happened with so many other women who have similarly had their personal info exposed as a form of politically motivated harassment."

The statement also said, "As much as this incident has stakes for my life, it is ultimately just one part of a broader political struggle taking place across the country. Right wing media organizations are weaponizing and sensationalizing this case to further their agenda, and using me as a prism through which to project their attacks on women, trans people, black people, Latinx people, migrants, and beyond."

Moreover, Rodriguez accused Hunter College of having "capitulated" to "racists, white nationalists, and misogynists" by firing her.

Hostage saved after police blow away machete-wielding suspect

North Miami Beach Police officers took decisive action Thursday, sparing a hostage from a potential beheading.

The officer-involved shooting took place just before 2 p.m. on March 16, near Northeast 2nd Avenue in North Miami.

Edridge Alexis, 38, allegedly threatened his family with a machete, then made his way into a medical office building, where he took a woman hostage, reported the Miami Herald.

Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of a man wielding a large knife near Alexis' home.

According to NMBP Chief Harvette Smith, officers first attempted nonlethal means to defuse the situation, imploring Alexis to drop the weapon. After the suspect threatened his own life with the blade, officers reportedly tased him; however, this proved to only enrage him further.

Alexis reportedly ran into a nearby medical office building armed with the machete.

Inside, the suspect allegedly tried to break down several locked doors, prompting health care providers in one instance to barricade an entryway. Having failed to gain entry to the medical offices, Alexis allegedly took a woman in the lobby hostage.

Again police ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, and again he refused.

"The machete [was] pointed at her neck in an attempt to kill her," said Smith.

With the blade so near the victim's throat, police weren't going to take any more chances.

Smith said, "At that point, our officers again gave commands for the subject to drop the knife. The subject refused to drop the knife at that point, making my officers [resort] to using deadly force to save a life."

Police indicated that three shots were fired in total, killing Alexis, saving the woman's life, and restoring order.

The suspect's family members expressed disbelief that Alexis would threaten multiple lives including that of an innocent woman, reported WPLG.

"They can’t tell me, like, 'hey, he got a machete, he trying to cut somebody’s throat,' nah, he ain’t like that," said Wilkenson Alexis, the suspect's brother. "They’re lying. Just be real about [it] ... say you killed someone."

Alexis had previously been charged for various crimes in Miami-Dade County over the years, including trespassing, assault, armed robbery, burglary, battery, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He spent the past year in jail and was released in early February, reported WPLG.

Another one of the suspect's relatives said, "For him to go inside the building and put the machete on someone’s neck, they have to give me the proof for that. He’s not like that."

The North Miami Beach Police Department noted on March 18 that "we turned over all body worn camera footage and additional evidence to [the Florida Department of Law Enforcement] as they continue their investigation into Thursday's incident. They have our full cooperation."

The property manager of the office building where the shooting occurred indicated that the incident was caught on camera and that footage corroborates the police officers' account of what took place.

Trespassing teens who died after shootout with homeowner were armed with handgun, machete. Mom of one teen says shooting them was 'not the right way to handle it.'

Police said the pair of trespassing male teens who broke into a Northglenn, Colorado, back yard and died after a shootout with the homeowner Sunday were armed with a semi-automatic handgun and a machete, KUSA-TV reported.

An airsoft gun that reportedly had been stolen from a nearby home was found with the teens but "was not a factor in the shooting," police added to the station.

What are the details?

Officers responded around 2 p.m. to a home in the11600 block of Pearl Street on a report of trespassing and menacing, KUSA said.

Police said Wednesday two juveniles broke a fence to gain entry into the back yard and garage-like structure attached to the home, the station added.

One juvenile had a semi-automatic handgun, and the other had a machete, police told KUSA, adding that both weapons were recovered from the scene.

One of the juveniles and the homeowner exchanged gunfire, police told the station, adding that it's unclear who fired first or how many shots were fired.

Both juveniles were shot and taken to a hospital, where they later died, KUSA said, adding that the homeowner was uninjured.

Police believe the same juveniles burglarized a nearby home just hours before the shootout, KCNC-TV reported, adding that the airsoft gun was the only item stolen from the home.

Mom of one teen says shooting them was 'not the right way to handle it'

Police haven't released the names of the teens, but family members identified one of them as 16-year-old Ismael Cordova, KUSA said.

“He wasn’t a bad kid," Christina Cordova told KUSA of her son. "He was just making a dumb decision, and now he’s gone.”

Christina Cordova also told KUSA she doesn't believe her son or the other teen deserved to die.

“What they were doing in his yard by his house is not right, but that’s not the right way to handle it," Christina Cordova added to the station. "That’s not the right way to handle it.”

Anything else?

Police will present the results of their investigation to the district attorney's office, which will determine what, if any, charges are appropriate, KUSA said.

Man attacks complete stranger with machete, slicing her repeatedly in Daytona Beach Waffle House

Police in Daytona Beach, Florida, have arrested a man who carried out a gruesome attack on a complete stranger in a Waffle House last week, allegedly slicing her repeatedly with a machete.

Pierre Kendrick, 34, is now charged with attempted first-degree murder for the heinous assault, which was captured by the restaurant's security footage, WOFL-TV reported.

Man arrested in brutal machete attack of woman at Daytona Beach Waffle House, police say www.youtube.com

On Feb. 24, at approximately 4 a.m., Kendrick allegedly entered the restaurant located on Seabreeze Boulevard and approached the woman, who was sitting in a booth, according to an incident report filed by police.

Police said surveillance video showed Kendrick talking with the woman while the pair sat at a booth before he briefly got up to talk to others at the restaurant.

Kendrick then returned to the booth where the woman was sitting, pulled out a machete from his pants, and attacked the woman without warning. He reportedly struck the woman repeatedly with the weapon.

A witness at the restaurant allegedly heard the woman screaming and saw the suspect "slicing the victim with a machete," WESH-TV reported.

The woman reportedly managed to escape the situation by jumping over the counter and running out of the rear of the restaurant. She then ran to a hotel where she called the police and told them she was the victim of a stabbing attack by an individual she did not know.

The woman was later taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Kendrick fled the scene in a "newer model" red SUV.

UPDATE (02/28/2022): We have identified the person we were looking for in this case. Our thanks to those who reached out to assist. It's appreciated.https://twitter.com/DaytonaBchPD/status/1497315791099899906\u00a0\u2026

To seek the community's help identifying Kendrick, Daytona Beach police released snippets from the restaurant's security footage that showed him entering the restaurant and mingling with customers. Full video of the attack has not been released.

Kendrick was reportedly arrested and taken into custody on Sunday and had his first court appearance on Monday. In court, a judge set his bond for $75,000 and ordered that he have no contact with the victim.

"If you bond out, you shall not possess any firearms or ammunition. Additionally, you would surrender any firearms to law enforcement," the judge said.

Kendrick also faces several other drug and weapons charges, WOFL reported.
