It’s A Myth That Hitler Came To Power Because Of Inflation
If you're going to pin all your fearmongering on a single historical era, you should really do a better job of learning what happened.
MSNBC political analyst Matthew Dowd raised eyebrows across the internet this week when he claimed that "if" Jesus Christ were "alive today," he would be considered a "groomer," "woke," and a "socialist" by modern conservatives.
The former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign adviser turned Democrat made the shocking statement on MSNBC's "Deadline: White House" Wednesday during a panel discussion about criticism lodged against Michigan Democratic state Sen. Mallory McMorrow.
McMorrow and other progressives have been accused of "grooming" and sexualizing children in recent weeks over their push to advance teaching on sexual orientation, gender identity, and critical race theory in public school classrooms.
But according to Dowd, in doing so, McMorrow is simply following the example left by Jesus of Nazareth.
"I have said this before, and I'll say it again: If Jesus Christ was alive today, He would be called a groomer, He would be called woke, and He would be called a socialist if He was alive today and speaking the message he spoke in the gospels today about treating everybody with dignity."
"Jesus Christ hung around with prostitutes and tax collectors," Dowd continued. "He was nailed to a cross because he spoke on behalf of the most marginalized people in the Middle East."

Dowd — a Catholic who recently ran for Lieutenant Governor of Texas as a Democrat — went on to slam conservatives for attempting to "corrupt" Jesus' message of "love conquers hate."
"This is something that I have tried to talk about: Being a Christian, having grown up Catholic, having been an altar boy and all of that — how the faith has been captured by a small segment of our society who have tried to define it in a way that Jesus never had defined it, and actually the opposite way of Jesus," he argued.
Elsewhere during the discussion, he added that using this kind of messaging is how the Democratic Party can win the culture war and rule the day.
Conservative Christians, however, are unlikely to be persuaded by Dowd's interpretation of their Lord and Savior's gospel message, which has much less to do with earthly social change than it does heart transformation and the cleansing of sin.
Likewise, Dowd's assumption that Jesus is no longer alive will certainly discredit his stance among Christians who just recently celebrated Easter, a holiday commemorating Jesus' rising from the dead.
Though he probably meant to say, "if Jesus were still on Earth," he didn't make that abundantly clear.
Matthew Dowd — chief strategist for the re-election campaign of former President George W. Bush who's now running as a Democrat in the Texas lieutenant governor's race — implied in a tweet that conservatives and Republicans would criticize Jesus as "woke" if he were walking on the planet today.
Dowd said in his Sunday tweet that the thought came to him while sitting in church that "if Jesus were here today he would be accused of being woke. How about we just say it is human decency to treat all with respect and dignity and that it is constitutional to say all men and women are equal."
As I sat in church today I was thinking that if Jesus were here today he would be accused of being woke. How about we just say it is human decency to treat all with respect and dignity and that it is constitutional to say all men and women are equal.

Dowd unsurprisingly got plenty of kudos from the left for his observation — but not everybody agreed:
With folks fully riled up, Dowd came back for more on Twitter following his initial tweet and hit back at his detractors:
As I have said for many years, if your ideology/dogma pushes you to define your faith and patriotism by whom you hate, well you might want to take a close look at whether you are a person of faith or a patriot.https://twitter.com/matthewjdowd/status/1457725830789046277\u00a0\u2026

Last week Democratic strategist James Carville angered leftists by blaming Democrat Terry McAuliffe's loss in the Virginia governor's election on "stupid wokeness."
"All right, don't just look at Virginia and New Jersey," Carville said. "Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Washington. I mean, this 'defund the police' lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln's name off of schools. I mean that — people see that."
Far-left U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) didn't like Carville's take and ripped him for it, saying the term "woke" is used "almost exclusively used by older people."
