FEMA and NC National Guard abandon North Carolinians living in TENTS as winter looms

Hurricane Helene had devastating effects on Western North Carolina. Many residents are still displaced. Some of them are even living in tents right now.

Why then has FEMA and the North Carolina National Guard ceased operations in areas most impacted by Helene?

Mercury One executive director JP Decker joins Jill Savage on “Blaze News Tonight” to share what the nonprofit is doing to fill the gap in the government’s absence.

“The devastation is still there. Nothing has really changed in regards to some of those buildings in Asheville or Black Mountain,” says Decker, adding that there’s still “20- to 30-feet tall piles of debris.”

By the looks of the North Carolina National Guard’s social media pages, however, it would seem that they’re working tirelessly to help the victims.

But when Decker was on the grounds with Mercury One, “There was no FEMA, there was no National Guard.”

In addition to other nonprofits, he says, “It was the everyday person who was standing in the gap and doing what the government should have been doing.”

Making matters worse is the fact that the city of Asheville, North Carolina, recently installed a single-unit public bathroom that cost a pretty $400,000.

“This shows how important local government elections are when you have people who are willing to do something like this when there's people that are suffering and living in tents,” says Decker.

Blaze News editor in chief Matthew Peterson points to a recent article written by Blaze News investigative journalists Steve Baker and Joseph Hanneman, in which they report the same story.

“The Army, Air Force, and National Guard have pulled most personnel from Western North Carolina. The temporary shelter need is 'extremely urgent' as winter looms,” they wrote.

Baker, who spent time in North Carolina helping with relief efforts, has a difficult time speaking about the tragic abandonment of the North Carolinians.

“We made relationships with these [government employees] and became very friendly with them. We were seeing each other every day; we were going out to the disaster relief site ... going out with their dog teams, going out with their people, helping recover bodies and also help removing debris and clearing people's property,” he says. “And then to see these forces removed ... I get very emotional about this.”

“Last week ... I drove over a 100 miles through the most devastated areas in the western part of the state and mile after mile after mile, tent after tent after tent, where people won't leave their property because they're afraid they're going to lose it if they leave,” he recounts. “And not one military vehicle, not one troop on the ground.”

Shocked at what he was seeing, Baker said he called the public affairs offices to inquire about the egregious abandonment.

He was met with responses, such as, “You’re right, Mr. Baker. We withdrew.”

But when Baker asked the obvious follow up question — Why? — he was met with silence.

“There is no answer because there is no logical answer,” he tells the panel.

'Redneck Air Force' rolls up its sleeves to help neighbors impacted by Helene while government is 'nowhere to be found'

An all-volunteer group run by military veterans set up operations in Swannanoa, North Carolina, immediately following the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene to provide humanitarian aid and emergency services to those impacted by the storm.

Last week, Blaze Media was on the ground with that volunteer group, which has dubbed itself the "Redneck Air Force."

Blaze News' Julio Rosas provided firsthand accounts of the team's efforts, explaining that the group set up its forward operating base in a Harley-Davidson dealership that was previously flooded by the hurricane. The volunteers worked quickly and efficiently, establishing a well-oiled machine that ran communications, delivered supplies, and allocated personnel to help those in need.

'We flew almost nonstop sunrise to sunset.'

Former Green Beret Adam Smith recruited several men and women to assist with coordinating and flying out critically needed supplies to those in the impacted area after they observed a lack of assistance from the federal government. Many of the volunteer emergency responders providing aid in the region have expressed similar frustrations regarding the Biden-Harris administration's response, or lack thereof.

The Blaze Media team also joined Mercury One, a charity founded by Blaze Media co-founder Glenn Beck, which has partnered with the United Cajun Navy, a nonprofit organization, to deliver supplies and perform search-and-rescue operations in the affected zones.

"Blaze News Tonight" host Jill Savage told Blaze News, "Our day in North Carolina was one none of us will ever forget. The military veterans and others jumped into action and started to organize all the incoming supplies. Your donations through Mercury One have been the lifeline for these communities when they have nothing else. When the government was nowhere to be found, we were blessed to see neighbors helping neighbors."

Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) was on the ground with the Redneck Air Force and Mercury One over the past week to participate in providing disaster relief.

Savage told Blaze News, "Congressman Cory Mills has gone above and beyond every day making numerous runs for supplies runs and medical calls. He isn't there just to get his picture taken and leave. He has rolled up his sleeves and made a huge impact in the community."

While on the ground in Asheville, Rosas spoke with John H. Kinard III, a Tennessee pilot and veteran with Aeroluxe Aviation, a helicopter tour agency based in Nashville that saw the devastation in North Carolina and decided to use its helicopter fleet to help.

Kinard told Rosas there has been "a complete and utter lack of federal government response," noting that he has "seen nobody on the ground."

As we begin to approach the winter season and many in the rural, mountainous areas remain without power, volunteers running supplies via helicopter are placing an even greater priority on delivering generators, fuel, and portable stoves to isolated individuals.

The volunteer team's efforts to help those in need were halted for at least a couple of hours last week when President Joe Biden visited days after the hurricane swept through the area. Operations to rescue stranded individuals and deliver supplies were put on hold due to the president's visit, which placed a temporary flight restriction within a 30-mile radius.

The helicopter Mills and the Blaze News team were on was grounded for two hours, waiting for the restriction to pass. Biden previously claimed that his visit would not interrupt operations.

Aeroluxe Aviation provided Blaze News with an update on Tuesday afternoon.

"We flew almost nonstop sunrise to sunset with our three helicopters on missions delivering medical supplies, insulin, other medications, oxygen, perishable foods and dry goods. We finally pulled out of the area yesterday as we were seeing more military helicopters in the area and our missions were becoming less frequent," Aeroluxe Aviation stated, noting that one of its helicopters sustained some minor damage while in North Carolina.

The helicopter tour agency explained that its workers were "met with resistance from local police in Chimney Rock when attempting to land last week, which was perplexing."

"We were unable to land to drop supplies and were waved off," Aeroluxe Aviation said. "All other areas welcomed the assistance when we landed, and we made every effort to contact each area before landing to determine need and safe LZs [landing zones]. Not all local fire/police departments had comms so our operations manager on the ground from Aeroluxe, Anthony Velasquez, was scrubbing social media for people asking for help or looking for loved ones. He would direct our resources with supplies or wellness checks to those areas in conjunction with Savage Freedoms."

The company noted that it plans to help again should the need arise.

Kinard also provided an update to Blaze News, stating that the operations out of the Harley-Davidson shop were "going great when we left." He noted that he recruited friends with Blackhawk helicopters to relieve his team.

"The federal government is definitely trying to keep the volunteers from helping!" he stated. "We aren't considered 3rd party approved vendors so they won't give people FEMA money."

"I want the rest of the United States to know and understand we have to take care of ourselves!!!" he added. "STOP RELYING ON THE US GOVERNMENT!!!"

Glenn Beck’s Mercury One and Cajun Navy join forces to deliver critical aid amid hurricane devastation

Mercury One, a charity founded in 2011 by Glenn Beck, has teamed up with the United Cajun Navy, a nonprofit organization, to deliver critical supplies and perform search-and-rescue operations in the areas devastated by Hurricane Helene.

In a Friday post on X, Mercury One announced, “We have 50 helicopters now doing SAR & Air Drops. We have delivered over 10 tons of supplies to those in need.”

'Don’t depend on the federal government,' he remarked. 'They’re not here to help you.'

The United Cajun Navy thanked Mercury One for helping it double its “Cajun Wing” squad from 25 helicopters to 50.

Mercury One began delivering supplies to those in North Carolina on Monday.

“It’s not about the government’s power. It is about the power of the people. Thanks for doing more when the government does less. We are with you, Hurricane Helene victims & we are doing everything we can to help you,” the charity stated.

On Thursday, Mercury One said it had already delivered 18,000 pounds of critical supplies this week. The charity continues to collect donations to deliver goods to those in need.

Blaze News’ Julio Rosas spoke with individuals on the ground in the disaster areas.

John H. Kinard III, a Tennessee pilot and veteran with Aeroluxe Aviation, told Rosas that he and his team saw the devastation in North Carolina and decided to help. He explained that the federal government has done essentially nothing.

“There is a complete and utter lack of federal government response,” he said. “I’ve seen nobody on the ground.”

“Ivanka Trump came yesterday, talked to us. Elon Musk’s guy’s been here talking to us. Glenn Beck is here now talking to us,” Kinard told Rosas. “I’ve seen no one from the federal government to help out at all. Nobody.”

“To be honest, it just pisses me off. This is our country. We should be being taken care of, priority one, instead of all the other countries,” he continued. “It enrages everybody here.”

“There’s about 100, 150 volunteers here at this site, 90% are retired military,” Kinard added.

Over a two-day period, Kinard estimated that the group of volunteers he was with dropped off roughly 100,000 pounds of food, water, and medicine.

“This area the most needs construction crews,” he told Blaze News. “They need road clearance and people to rebuild the roads. A lot of the roads are completely destroyed. When I say, ‘completely destroyed,’ they are gone.”

Kinard said he wants the rest of the country to know that “normal, everyday Americans make the difference.”

“Don’t depend on the federal government,” he remarked. “They’re not here to help you.”

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT: Locals help Hurricane Helene victims while government is nowhere to be seen

In one of the most devastating natural disasters to reach land in the history of America, Hurricane Helene has left more than 100 people dead. Thousands are still missing. Homes are destroyed. And millions are without power.

Just days into the devastation, President Joe Biden said the feds have given all they can to the emergency response, and Kamala Harris is off campaigning — Donald Trump went to the scene in Georgia with relief material.

And Trump isn’t the only one helping the victims, as Mercury One is doing whatever it can to provide relief.

“I heard about the devastation that was happening, and I reached out to Corey [Mills], gave him a text, and said, ‘Hey, do you have any helicopters?’ He actually said, ‘Yeah, I’ve got helicopters.’ I said, ‘Great, we’ve got supplies. Let’s get it out there,’” JP Decker, executive director of Mercury One tells Jill Savage and Matthew Peterson of “Blaze News Tonight.”

“So earlier today, he flew two helicopters out to Asheville, landed in Asheville, and is delivering water, all kinds of different supplies, food supplies because right now they don’t have any water. They’re saying they might not have clean water for about at least three to four weeks,” he explains.

Mercury One is “also helping create communications for Tennessee.”

“With Mercury One, we like to be the first in and the last out. So, that’s what we’re doing,” Decker says.

Since federal aid has been slow to reach victims, locals have also been stepping up.

“The big picture is we saw this last year in Lahaina. We saw a lot of people weren’t able to get in to help, and it was the locals that stepped up. That’s what we’re seeing now. No one can get in, no one can get out,” Decker says.

Al Robertson of BlazeTV’s “Unashamed” is among the survivors of the hurricane, and he’s witnessed firsthand what’s happening.

“I saw people, literally neighbors with chainsaws, people sharing gasoline. I saw the community rising up for one another, but we needed something bigger in a moment like this because there were a lot of people trapped there that didn’t have family, that didn’t know people,” Robertson explains.

“That’s when we rely on our government to step in and get people in ASAP, whatever it takes. And I was there for two and a half days, and we never saw anybody except the locals, and that was really sad.”

Did the government ABANDON Hurricane Helene victims?

One of the most devastating natural disasters to hit America, Hurricane Helene has left dozens dead and millions affected across the southern United States.

However, while communities in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina deal with extreme flooding and property losses, FEMA still hasn’t reached some of the hardest-hit towns.

“They may make it today. The Red Cross has not arrived; they may make it today,” Glenn Beck of “The Glenn Beck Program” comments, days after Helene hit North Carolina.

Mercury One, on the other hand, is making sure communities like Asheville — whose damage has left citizens stranded and unable to leave — are not abandoned.

“We’ll be on the ground in Asheville,” Glenn says. “We’ve ordered helicopters to bring in supplies, water, food, and I mean it’s really amazing what’s happening. Benny Johnson is providing a few pallets of water as well. And so It’s just everybody coming together, and the government not doing their job.”

Executive director of Mercury One J.P. Decker has a contact on the ground in Asheville who is a former Green Beret and lost track of his wife and 3-year-old daughter.

“He was out of town and found out what happened and flew back and ended up getting on a helicopter and found them in the midst of all the destruction, and one hundred other people that still hadn’t been rescued,” Decker tells Glenn.

Meanwhile, the Biden-Harris administration pledged billions more in aid to Ukraine just this weekend.

“It is truly remarkable,” Glenn says. “They don’t care at all.”

“We’re giving billions to a country, but yet not our own Americans, not our own people,” Decker agrees. “They feel abandoned yet again, from the government. Again, we don’t think it’s the government’s job to do everything, but in this case, they should be stepping in.”

Lahaina, Maui — one year later

It’s been one year since wildfires ravaged the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui, killing 102 people and displacing thousands.

You likely haven’t heard much about the state of Lahaina and its remaining residents in the mainstream media because the Biden administration has moved on from the tragedy. Of course it’s still funding illegal aliens using American taxpayer dollars, but it’s abandoned the U.S. citizens of Hawaii who are still homeless a year after fires claimed their homes, jobs, and loved ones.

Mercury One Inc., a nonprofit organization providing humanitarian aid, education, and disaster relief founded by Blaze Media’s Glenn Beck, has not forgotten. Mercury One is still on the ground in Lahaina providing hope and resources to citizens who remain in the throes of homelessness, poverty, and grief.

Mercury One executive director J.P. Decker joins Glenn on the show to give an update about the state of Lahaina and its people.

- YouTubewww.youtube.com

For starters, Mercury One has “been providing mental health [support] because there's been a mental health crisis of multiple suicides,” says J.P., adding that “most people still feel uncertain,” especially when it comes to housing and jobs.

“About 72% of all people in Maui were affected by these fires; 59% said they have moved over three times [since the disaster],” he tells Glenn.

In addition to mental health support, Mercury One has also funded another nonprofit that provides “sports for kids” when the organization ran out of funds.

“A lot of the kids can't even come into Lahaina without crying and screaming because of what they saw that day one year ago,” says J.P.

“We have also worked with a nonprofit who has built a whole community for the survivors,” he reports. However, the facilities, despite being ready to use, are currently going to waste because “the governor and the mayor continue to fight with each other on who's going to get the credit … so they're not allowing these people to move to this nonprofit [community].”

“So many of these people feel left by our government. They feel left alone. They feel as if no one is talking about them any more,” says J.P., adding that it’s clear that “our government has forgotten about them.”

To make matters worse, yesterday the governor chose to bring up climate change.

“The governor even said yesterday, ‘Well, I know that you like Front Street … but you have to remember that climate change is taking Front Street away,”’ J.P. recounts.

“How do you say that on the one-year anniversary? What kind of a leader are you?” he asks, disgusted. “These people are trying to find hope. Out of the 11,000 that lived there and were displaced, there's only about 3,000 left because they've had to move to find jobs.”

Inspiring stories from 2023 that will give you HOPE for 2024

In the face of Bidenomics, non-stop war, illness, and a near non-existent border, it can be hard to feel that you’ve made a difference.

However, Glenn Beck has some good news for his audience: you have actually made a serious difference.

“You might think that you haven’t done anything this year,” Glenn says, noting that his audience is precisely the reason the Nazarene Fund has been able to support so many persecuted people this year.

The Nazarene Fund is currently supporting roughly 125 people monthly inside of Afghanistan with food and life-sustaining supplies. Most of those being supported are widows with children or Christians in hiding.

The fund is also evacuating high-risk individuals from Afghanistan to safe houses in Pakistan, where they wait for final resettlement.

According to Glenn, 22,000 people have been successfully relocated around the world.

One of the biggest successes Glenn has seen is through a prison camp in Syria, called Al-Hol.

The camp is full of about 10,000 Yazidi slaves, and the Nazarene Fund is working tirelessly to free them. So far, 172 have been saved and sent to Australia while 18 have gone to Canada.

But that’s not all.

“We’re reuniting these women with their family members in Iraq, rescuing survivors from human trafficking in Iraq, we’re rescuing families fleeing religious persecution for their Christian faith in Syria, we have safe houses for at-risk Yazidi women and their children of war,” Glenn explains.

The Nazarene Fund has also responded with assistance to partners in Israel, with one chartered flight from Tel Aviv to Nashville for U.S. citizens and Israelis who were survivors of the October 7 attack.

The fund has also partnered with Mercury One to provide funding for the relocation to the U.S. of six Israeli families who were survivors of the attack.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Operation Lego was launched in Nigeria on April 30 and targeted any and all individuals or rings involved with the illicit trade of organ harvesting, human trafficking, child abduction and exploitation, baby factories, and ritual killings.

Six human traffickers have been arrested, and 32 children have been rescued and are now being cared for.

“I just want you to know, there’s never been a commercial radio audience or I think a commercial television audience ever that has done anything like this,” Glenn says. “Thank you. It is an honor to be around you and to serve you.”

7 HOPEFUL and HORRIFYING stories from Maui wildfire recovery

The wildfire in Maui was nothing short of tragic, and rescue and recovery efforts are still underway. While 300 names of the missing have been released to the public, there are still 1,100 people unaccounted for.

Many Americans, including Glenn Beck, have questions.

“I don’t mean to be callous on this, but it’s not that big of an island. It’s not like somebody, you know, is wandering off and is lost or whatever,” Glenn says.

To answer some of his questions, Glenn sits down to speak with one of the men on the ground in Maui: Mercury One Executive Director J.P. Decker.

Glenn asks Decker, who has been in Maui for almost five days, why officials are holding back the other 1,100 names.

“That is one thing that every single local is confused on that we’ve spoken with,” Decker says, adding, “I’ve spoken with a lot of people, and they said, ‘We don’t trust anyone. We do not trust what’s coming out of the government. We don’t trust what’s coming out of, not just the state of Hawaii, but the county and then also our federal government.’”

While the locals have been offered little solace by the government, there are some stories of hope Decker can tell.

One surfer who is famous on the island has been getting surfboards and fishing equipment for the locals, especially the kids who lost everything, including their surfboards as well as their mental health.

Decker explains these kids have seen too much. “Seeing people burning in cars and seeing their family members in their homes. This is the only thing that’s going to bring this community back to what we know and we love.”

The surfer plans to take the surfboards to the kids and the fishing supplies to the local fisherman who lost “literally everything.”

Decker tells Glenn that the people who are working to keep their community strong in the face of tragedy are “the definition of ohana, which means family. And that is community.”

Fox News obtains leaked email confirming State Department obstruction of private evacuation flights from Afghanistan

A leaked email from the State Department confirms that the Biden administration refused to grant permission for private evacuation flights from Afghanistan to land in third countries, even though the administration was aware official authorization was needed for them to do so.

Additionally, Fox News reported that the State Department explicitly said private charter flights, even those carrying American citizens out of Afghanistan, would not be permitted to land at Department of Defense airbases.

These revelations appear to confirm what BlazeTV host Glenn Beck reported Tuesday, when he said on-air that the State Department refused to grant landing clearance to planes chartered by Mercury One and The Nazarene Fund, which prevented them from departing.

Fox News obtained the email from Eric Montalvo, who organized a series of private flights to evacuate Americans and Afghan allies left behind in Afghanistan by the Biden administration. The email, sent Sept. 1, shows how the State Department set up bureaucratic roadblocks to private evacuation efforts.

"No independent charters are allowed to land at [Al Udeid Air Base], the military airbase you mentioned in your communication with Samantha Power. In fact, no charters are allowed to land at an [sic] DoD base and most if not all countries in the Middle Eastern region, with the exception of perhaps Saudi Arabia will allow charters to land," a State Department official wrote.

"You need to find another destination country, and it can't be the U.S. either."

According to Fox News, the official added that some third countries "may require" official approval from the State Department before permitting private charter flights to land there, but said the State Department "will not provide" that approval.

"Once you have had discussions with the host/destination country and reached an agreement, they may require some indication from the USG that we 'approve' of this charter flight. DOS will not provide an approval, but we will provide a 'no objection' to the destination country government via the U.S. Embassy in that country."

During a Sept. 2 press conference, both White House press secretary Jen Psaki and State Department spokesman Ned Price denied that the Biden administration was preventing private planes from leaving Afghanistan.

When TheBlaze attempted to reach the State Department for comment on Beck's reporting, a spokesman for the department referred to comments made Tuesday by Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a press conference in Doha, Qatar.

"We're working around the clock with NGOs, with members of Congress and advocacy groups, providing any and all information and doing all we can to clear any roadblocks that they've identified to make sure that charter flights carrying Americans or others to whom we have a special responsibility can depart Afghanistan safely," Blinken said.

"We've also been engaged with the Taliban on this topic, including in recent hours," he added. "They've said that they will let people with travel documents freely depart. We will hold them to that."

Glenn Beck unveils new American Journey Experience museum and training center to teach real history backed by truth

Glenn Beck unveiled the American Journey Experience, a place where you can learn the real history of the United States because you'll be immersed in the documents, artifacts, and stories that molded this great country. The American Journey Experience will be so much more than just dates and names. It will be a place where American pioneers and their accomplishments will be brought to life and you can experience history.

The American Journey Experience features a myriad of American history antiquities, including Franklin D. Roosevelt's wheelchair, the second electric chair ever built, the original script for Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds," and original letters written by George Washington.

But the American Journey Museum is not just a museum. The new climate-controlled American Journey Vault stores rare documents that chronicle this nation's legendary past. Inside is one of the rarest books in the world, an Aitken Bible from 1782, the first and only edition of the Bible ever authorized by Congress. Only 10,000 copies were originally made, and just 30-40 copies exist today.

Having the original documents and actual artifacts allows the American Journey Experience to fight misinformation with facts from primary sources.

The new American Journey Training Center is where college students and adults will be given an education unlike any other. This history lesson is far beyond what you learned from your Western Civilization class back in high school. The training is customized for educators, academic researchers, students of all ages, families, and everyday Americans who are seeking the truth about our nation's history.

For students, there will be two-week courses. On the first day of this groundbreaking course, you will be asked questions about hot-button topics such as the free market, socialism, abortion, and more. Then the course will provide students with a solid foundation of knowledge backed by historical evidence and not revisionist history. Real history that is backed by truth.

Not only will the instructors provide knowledge about American history and patriots, but they will more importantly equip young minds with the abilities and know-how on how they can be "truth-seekers" once they leave the classroom.

While the American Journey Experience has an incredible array of artifacts and documents, to tell the complete story of America, the museum will need more relics to teach America's past to America's future.

Donations will help Mercury One secure critical artifacts such as one of the best pilgrim collections, which was displayed at the Smithsonian. The pilgrim collection from as far back as the 16th century.

With your contributions, no matter how much, you will enable the team at the American Journey Experience to take centuries-old books and digitalize them, making them available online for all Americans to embrace these eminent documents.

Glenn Beck, founder of the humanitarian aid and education organization Mercury One, along with David Barton, the founder of WallBuilders, invite you to embark on an American journey. With your help, the American Journey Experience can help tell the real story of this one-of-a-kind nation and the heroes who built it.

You can make a donation to the American Journey Experience HERE.
