Republican Rep. Mike Collins says 'three men attempted to rob one of my staffers and a friend at gunpoint in' DC

Republican Rep. Mike Collins of Georgia said in a Sunday post on X that one of his staffers and another individual had been targeted for robbery in Washington, D.C.

"Early this morning, three men attempted to rob one of my staffers and a friend at gunpoint in Navy Yard. One attacker took a watch, the other took a fist to the face. Our nation's capital has become a warzone because of pro-criminal policies peddled by D.C.'s government. Thank the good Lord, after fending off the assailants, both young men are safe," Collins tweeted.

'It's unthinkable that drive-by robberies are a normal part of living just a few blocks from the Capitol.'

"It's a shame our nation's capital is a showcase for failed Democrat policies and violent crime as opposed to the greatness of our country. The crime is so common place now many people don't even report it because they know the city government will do nothing or just release the criminals to keep offending," the staffer who had been involved in the incident told the Daily Caller on Monday.

The nation's capital is a deeply blue area that has consistently voted for the Democratic presidential candidate in each election since 1964, which was the first presidential contest after the 23rd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution took effect.

"Time and time again D.C.'s leadership proves they are incapable of governing and protecting its citizens. Violent crime in this city is a problem that affects everyone. It's unthinkable that drive-by robberies are a normal part of living just a few blocks from the Capitol," Collins tweeted.

‘Uptick in crime’ near controversial NYC migrant shelter prompts GOP lawmakers to demand vetting process records: Report

An “uptick in crime” near a controversial New York City migrant shelter prompted Republican lawmakers to send a letter, obtained by the New York Post, to the National Park Service demanding information about the vetting process for tenants.

House Republican Bruce Westerman, the chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources, and seven other GOP lawmakers penned a letter to NPS director Charles Sams stating that the House Committee on Natural Resources is examining the decision to house migrants at Floyd Bennett Field, which is located on NPS land.

The city began housing migrants at the Brooklyn airfield in November after its existing shelter system neared capacity. Many of the migrants who were part of the first busload transported to Floyd Bennett Field refused to reside at the makeshift tent city shelter, complaining that the accommodations were too remote.

The shelter, which can house up to 2,000 migrants, became a hotbed for panhandling, according to residents in the area. An increase in begging and criminal activity prompted Democratic Mayor Eric Adams to impose a curfew at some migrant shelter locations.

“Since the establishment of the migrant encampment at Floyd Bennett Field, local and national media have reported an uptick in crime at the migrant encampment and in the immediate neighborhood surrounding the park,” lawmakers wrote to Sams.

The letter stated that the migrant crisis has led to an increase in criminal activity in the city and nationwide.

“The widespread reports of criminality in and around the Floyd Bennett Field migrant encampment include domestic violence, assault, shoplifting, prostitution, and panhandling scams,” the lawmakers said. “The Committee is deeply concerned with the Biden administration’s management of American’s public lands, notably at Floyd Bennett Field, and the inherent safety risks to employees at the park, residents of the surrounding communities, and migrants as a result of the decision to lease national park land for a migrant encampment.”

The lawmakers noted that the lease agreement states that the New York Police Department is the “primary entity responsible for law enforcement issues” at the encampment but that the Adams administration “contracted with a private security firm.”

“[O]n at least one occasion, the private security firm has impeded NYPD officers attempting to access the camp,” the letter claimed.

Lawmakers added that migrant tenants “are not subject to a basic background search during the intake process.”

“All tenants, employees of Floyd Bennett Field, and surrounding residents deserve to know if they are living with migrants who have previous arrest records and/or convictions,” the House Republicans wrote.

The letter requested that the NPS provide lawmakers with “documents and communications” concerning the lease and the shelter’s intake process by April 11.

Lawmakers demanded evidence that shows “how NPS has cooperated, or plans to cooperate, with [Immigration and Customs Enforcement],” “how the migrant tenants at Floyd Bennett Field are screened,” and “how NPS is preventing persons with a history of criminal conduct from residing at Floyd Bennett Field.”

The letter was signed by Republican Representatives Westerman from Arkansas, Paul Gosar from Arizona, and Mike Collins from Georgia. New York Republican Representatives Anthony D'Esposito, Andrew Garbarino, Nick LaLota, Nicole Malliotakis, and Elise Stefanik also signed the correspondence.

Neither the NPS nor Adams’ office responded to a request for comment from the Post.

Georgia Republican Rep’s Campaign Puts Up Laken Riley Billboards Ahead Of Biden’s Visit To Atlanta

'I hope Biden will see these and have a change of heart on his border policies'

GOP Congressman Mike Collins Will Leave SOTU Guest Seat ‘Vacant’ To Honor Migrant Crime Victims

‘He will look up at an empty seat that memorializes those we’ve lost'

GOP lawmaker says empty seat at State of the Union will 'honor Laken [Riley] and all American victims of illegal alien crime'

President Joe Biden is slated to deliver his State of the Union address on Thursday, but while the room may be packed with guests, at least one seat will remain empty.

GOP Rep. Mike Collins of Georgia announced that he will leave a seat empty to honor Laken Riley and all victims of crime committed by illegal aliens.

Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, was killed last month. The suspect in the case, Jose Ibarra, had been arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in 2022 after illegally entering the country, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement indicated in a statement, according to CBS News. The man had been released by border authorities pending review of his immigration case, ICE indicated, according to the outlet.

"I invited Laken Riley's parents to the State of the Union address, but understandably, they have chosen to stay home as they grieve the loss of their daughter," Collins tweeted. "Therefore, the seat reserved for my guest will remain vacant to honor Laken and all American victims of illegal alien crime. As Joe Biden attempts to paint a rosy picture of the crime-ridden country he has created, he will look up at an empty seat that memorializes those we've lost because of his open border policies."

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has invited Riley Gaines as one of his guests to attend the State of the Union address, according to the Daily Wire.

Gaines has been outspoken in pushing back against radical leftist gender ideology, and opposing the practice of allowing males to compete in female sports.

"Riley Gaines is a role model for America's women and girls, inspiring them to unlock their potential and do the right thing, even when it isn’t popular," Johnson told the outlet. "I'm grateful to host Riley at the State of the Union and am proud to join her in her efforts to save women’s sports."

Republican introduces 'Laken Riley Act' to force ICE to retain illegal aliens for theft, says tragic murder is a 'wakeup call'

In response to the brutal murder of Laken Hope Riley, a Republican lawmaker has introduced legislation that would require the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain any illegal immigrants charged with theft or burglary.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.) introduced the Laken Riley Act on Friday, which would "require the Secretary of Homeland Security to take into custody aliens who have been charged in the United States with theft, and for other purposes."

The bill is dedicated to Laken Riley, the 22-year-old college nursing student who was recently murdered on the campus of the University of Georgia. Riley died from blunt force trauma.

The suspect in the horrific slaying is 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra — an illegal immigrant from Venezuela. He has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, kidnapping, hindering a 911 call, and concealing Riley’s death.

ICE has confirmed that Ibarra entered the U.S. illegally in 2022 near El Paso, Texas. He was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Sept. 8, 2022, after illegally crossing the U.S. southern border.

The Venezuelan national was released by U.S. border officials pending a review of his immigration case, according to ICE.

In August 2023, Ibarra was reportedly arrested by New York Police Department officers and charged with acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 and a motor vehicle license violation.

The New York Post reported, "Ibarra, 26, was working for DoorDash, Uber Eats, and a local restaurant when he was arrested in August for endangering the welfare of a child, after he was caught in Queens riding a gas-powered moped with Franco’s son on the back, without any head protection or restraint for the child, according to police sources."

However, the NYPD said it has no record of Ibarra's reported arrest.

Collins told Fox News, "The senseless murder of Laken Riley by Jose Ibarra, who had no business being in this country, was another wakeup call as Americans experience an illegal alien crime wave because of Joe Biden's open border and local sanctuary city policies."

"I wish we could bring Laken back, but we must now turn our focus to ensuring this doesn't happen to another American," Collins added. "That's why I introduced the Laken Riley Act."

The funeral for Riley was held on Friday.
