‘Morning Joe’s’ civil sit-down with Trump leaves ‘The View’ hosts FUMING

Like most of the mainstream media, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” hosts, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, called Donald Trump “Hitler” for years.

Now they’re attempting to build a civil relationship with the president-elect, including by sitting down for a meeting with him — and “The View’s” Sunny Hostin could not be less thrilled.

“The bottom line is that America needs a free press that is willing to speak truth to power, right now, more than ever,” Hostin began.

“I think that we have to be very clear-eyed when we think about the president-elect and cover the president-elect, and I don’t think you need to sit down for 90 minutes a Mar a Lago and kiss his ring to be able to speak truth and to be able to cover a story,” she continued.

“So maybe they’re not journalists in the true sense, maybe they’re saying that they’re opinion journalists, but we have to remember that Trump is the guy who ushered in the era of fake news,” she concluded.

Of course, Ana Navarro wholeheartedly agreed.

“I think there’s a lot of people who are probably looking at what Joe and Mika did and find it opportunistic,” she said. “There are people who change their stripes, or maybe their spots, I should say today, depending on who is in power and what benefits them.”

“We don’t know what they’re going to do if he commits abuses of power as president. So, you know, everybody has to live with their decision. Everybody has to look at themselves in the mirror,” she added.

Surprisingly, Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” agrees.

“Yes, I’ve been saying you people have to look at yourselves in the mirror. I don’t think you’re quite there yet, Ana, although the Ozempic is working, but that’s not really what you should be looking in the mirror for,” Rubin says.

“What you should be looking in the mirror for is that your hypocrisy is off the charts. You think people change their stripes to be opportunistic? That’s kind of funny, Ana Navarro, because you used to work when you were a Republican, a conservative, for Marco Rubio, who’s now secretary of state,” he adds.

MSNBC's 'Morning Joe' hosts meet with Trump for the first time in 7 years as viewership plummets

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," announced Monday they had met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago last week in an effort to reopen the lines of communication for the first time in seven years.

Scarborough and Brzezinski, who are married, told the audience that although they disagree with Trump on most issues, they felt it was important to speak with him following the "five years of political warfare" that has divided our country. Notably, this announcement was made after the network's viewership has reportedly plummeted by a double-digit percentage drop since Election Day.

'Joe and I realized it's time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but also talking with him.'

"Over the past week, Joe and I have heard from so many people, from political leaders to regular citizens deeply dismayed by several of President-elect Trump's Cabinet selections, and they are scared," Brzezinski said. "Last Thursday, we expressed our own concerns on this broadcast and even said we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the president-elect himself.

"On Friday, we were given the opportunity to do just that," Brzezinski continued. "Joe and I went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally with President-elect Trump. It was the first time we have seen him in seven years."

The co-hosts have been some of Trump's most vocal critics for nearly a decade, as well as frequently hosting prominent Democratic lawmakers on their platform. Despite their differences, Scarborough and Brzezinski noted it was their job as commentators to set aside their disagreements.

"Now, we talked about a lot of issues, including abortion, mass deportation, threats of political retribution against political opponents and media outlets," Scarborough said. "We talked about that a good bit. And it's gonna come as no surprise to anybody who watches this show, has watched it over the past year or over the past decade, that we didn't see eye to eye on a lot of issues. And we told him so."

"What we did agree on was to restart communications," Brzezinski said.

The co-hosts also emphasized Trump's desire to work across the aisle with Democrats and to mend the division our country has experienced over the years.

"My father often spoke with world leaders with whom he and the United States profoundly disagreed," Brzezinski continued. "That's a task shared by reporters and communicators alike."

"In this meeting, President Trump was tearful. He was upbeat. He seemed interested in finding common ground with Democrats on some of the most divisive issues," Brzezinski said. "And for those asking why we would go speak to the president-elect during such fraught times, especially between us, I guess I would ask back, why wouldn't we?"

Brzezinski went on to say that although they personally disagreed with Trump, they wanted to factor in the tens of millions of people who supported him.

"Five years of political warfare has deeply divided Washington and the country," Brzezinski said. "We have been as clear as we know how in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump's actions and words in the coarsening of public debate."

"But for nearly 80 million Americans, election denialism, public trials, and January 6 were not as important as the issues that moved them to send Donald Trump back to the White House with their vote," Brzezinski continued. "Joe and I realized it's time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but also talking with him."

Trump also spoke to Fox News of the meeting, saying it was "extremely cordial."

"In order to Make America Great Again, it is very important, if not vital, to have a free, fair, and open media or press," Trump told Fox News.

"Many things were discussed, and I very much appreciated the fact that they wanted to have open communication," he said. "In many ways, it’s too bad that it wasn’t done long ago."

"And while many others are calling for meetings, I am not looking for retribution, grandstanding, or to destroy people who treated me very unfairly or even badly beyond comprehension," Trump continued. "I am always looking to give a second and even third chance, but never willing to give a fourth chance — that is where I hold the line."

MSNBC viewers lash out at Andrea Mitchell and demand she retire over comments critical of Joe Biden

MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell faced the ire of her network's viewers when she criticized former Vice President Joe Biden over an injury to his foot.

Mitchell made the comments on Monday on "Andrea Mitchell Reports," pointing out that Biden had suffered the injury on Saturday but didn't disclose it to the public until later.

"It was also notable, you know he fell, playing with his dog Major, we're told, on Saturday, it wasn't until Sunday that the White House pool knew that he was going somewhere, and then it turned out to be a doctor, you know, for an x-ray, and then they needed more imaging, so CT scans," Mitchell said.

"They weren't as forthcoming as you would hope they would be with the press pool that's supposed to cover them," she concluded.

Viewers lash out at Mitchell

Many liberals and other critics of President Donald Trump were outraged that Mitchell would criticize Biden.

"Are you f**king serious with this Andrea Mitchell? Biden not transparent enough about his ankle? THEY VIDEOTAPED HIM AT THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE!" tweeted Mediaite writer Tommy Christopher with a video of her comments.

"This is STANDARD FOR ORTHOPEDIC diagnoses as I well know ffs STOP THIS CRAP BOTH SIDESING," responded another viewer.

"Not only can I not stand her boring ass voice, I can't stand her ridiculous reporting either," said another viewer.

"Oh my did Andrea Mitchell actually saying the [sic] Joe Biden wasn't as forthcoming about his ankle give me a fking break," said another.

Others demanded that Mitchell retire or be fired from her position over the comments.

"You and @chucktodd both need to go," said one viewer.

"Time to take an early retirement @mitchellreports . The people are done watching you," said another viewer.

"@mitchellreports needs to go. This two standards crap for the GOP vs. Dems is beyond old," said another viewer.

Mitchell is no stranger to pushback from social media. In March she was excoriated over a video of Biden that selectively edited out his cursing and and a threat in order to make it look far less unhinged.

MSNBC cuts live broadcast of Trump briefing after 40 seconds; Brian Williams calls his statement 'dangerous'

Cable news network MSNBC cut away from a media briefing by President Donald Trump about the ongoing election vote count and Brian Williams explained that, in his view, the president's statements were dangerous to the country.

The president claimed that he had won the election, despite the vote count continuing, when MSNBC cut the feed and asked their legal correspondent Ari Melber to address his claims.

"OK. Here we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the president of the United States, but correcting the president of the United States," said Williams.

"There are no illegal votes that we know of," he added. "There has been no Trump victory that we know of."

Here's the moment that MSNBC cut away from the president:

Williams later defended the action they took after the president's media briefing ended.

"A word about our decision to dive out of the president's remarks, it was not done as a stunt or theatrics, we just can't have it," said Williams.

"It was not rooted in reality — and at this point, in where our country is, it's dangerous," he added.

Williams said that MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace watched the address to fill in their viewers on what he said.

"You remained watching and listening and you're gonna be our briefer on just how deep it got and what we missed," said Williams to Wallace.

"Well I'm so glad that we kinda show our work because I'm proud I work at a network that didn't contribute to what the president just did and I have the only show on the network named after the White House so i felt if part of my job to watch it for our viewers," said Wallace.

"It is a speech that represents one of the more dangerous acts that Donald Trump has undertaken as president," she claimed.

Fox News and CNN both aired the 17 minute address from the president in full. Some on the left excoriated CNN for airing the comments.

Former GOP congressman says the message of the RNC to white people is that 'Black people are coming for you'

Former Republican congressman David Jolly said that President Trump's message to white people at the Republican National Convention is "Black people are coming for you."

Jolly was speaking to Joy Reid on MSNBC Thursday on the fourth and last night of the GOP convention when he made the derisive comments.

"We cannot extract the element of race from all of these narratives that the Republicans are putting out," said Jolly.

"Donald Trump is telling white people that Black people are coming for you. That is the message of the RNC," he added.

"It is damning he should be criticized and he should be damned for it but the heartbreaking part of all this, Joy, is while the issues around race, and the conversations around race can be complex and very hard, leadership in this moment is not," Jolly continued.

"All it takes for a leader is to listen, and to understand, and to show empathy, and to acknowledge these are tough complex issues," he concluded.

Reid focused on the inclusion into the RNC of the St. Louis couple who protected their property with guns from Black Lives Matter, and implied that this led to the shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin, were two protesters were killed.

"This shooter in Kenosha walked around with a gun and police didn't even stop him," said Reid.

"He was arrested peacefully. And yet, Black people can't even be pulled over without being in terror of being shot for no reason. Can't get into a car. Can't stand up, can't sit down. You walk to the left, you get shot, you walk to the right, you get shot! No matter what you do!"

The president received the nomination for re-election from the Republican party on Thursday and ended the convention with a fiery speech from in front of the White House before a select audience.

President Trump holds naturalization ceremony at GOP convention, and MSNBC is melting down over it

Critics of President Donald Trump pounced on the inclusion of a ceremony for citizenship naturalization on the second night of the Republican National Convention.

Progressive cable news channel MSNBC led the chorus against the ceremony when anchor Joy Reid asked NBC analyst Jacob Soboroff about the response on social media.

"Well, 'galling' is the word that I'm seeing being used, Joy, by immigration activists and lawyers online, that the administration, the Trump administration with some of the most restrictive harsh and cruel, in the words of a former administration official, a former ICE official to me, would use a naturalization ceremony for political purposes in this context," Soboroff responded.

"And it goes beyond that, that was a very special moment for those five people in the White House this evening or earlier today, but everyone should know, or people should know, that there are literally tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people who are eligible and awaiting their own naturalization ceremonies," he added.

"And not only their own naturalization ceremonies," he continued, "but the ability to vote this November, and they are being prevented from doing so because the Trump administration refuses them to allow them to have those naturalization ceremonies remotely, via zoom, and they say it is not possible, they are uncomfortable with that."

Reid later said that she was most offended by the naturalization ceremony because President Trump made it about himself, specifically for politics.

"It's monarchical! It's the use of the monarchy!" said Reid.

She reiterated her point with a tweet.

"My mother was a naturalized citizen. Donald Trump using the ceremony that meant so much to her (in large part because she was excited to be able to vote) IN the White House, is really hard to watch," she tweeted.

"It's an abomination," she added, "in that this ceremony is NOT about worshiping a president."

Other critics took to social media to excoriate the president for holding the ceremony at the White House during the GOP convention.

"I like to think that I cannot be surprised by the depravity of these people, but that ceremony got me. It was honestly one of the lowest thing I've even seen in American politics," said Elie Mystal, a correspondent for The Nation.

"Dystopian. A racist xenophobe using a naturalization ceremony and the people's house as a campaign prop. So sickening," said former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe.

"[A] lot of white conservatives right now feeling pretty good about themselves for using people as props in a disingenuous naturalization ceremony, good for you guys," said Washington Post video editor Dave Jorgensen.

"That naturalization ceremony might be the most cynical stunt I've ever seen from an American politician," said Washington Post contributor Radley Balko.

"To see it co-opted in the service of a cheap political propaganda stunt makes me sick," said screenwriter Gary Whitta.

"Creepy beyond belief. The sight of Child-Separator-and-Trump-Boot-Licker-in-Chief, @DHS_Wolf alongside the white supremacist who is the current occupant of the White House at this political naturalization ceremony is a scene so perverse it actually hurts," said Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas).
