Newsom Tries To Be Zohran Mamdani of 2028 Presidential Race

The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, in an appearance in the first-in-the-nation presidential primary state of New Hampshire, reiterated his use of the term "apartheid" to describe Israel and did not correct his chosen interviewer, who falsely claimed "every expert" has described Israel's actions in Gaza as "genocide."

Nonbinary suspect allegedly opens fire on Border Patrol agent — incident eerily similar to last year's fatal shooting

A suspect who reportedly identifies as nonbinary opened fire on a Border Patrol agent during a traffic stop in New Hampshire on Saturday. This latest incident occurred roughly one year after members of a radical trans cult allegedly shot and killed an agent in Vermont.

A criminal complaint reviewed by Blaze News revealed charges filed Tuesday against Blu Zeke Daly, also known as Cullan Zeke Daly, stemming from an incident that occurred on Feb. 21.

'This individual did have a previous Massachusetts driver's license that was denominated to be male and now has a New Hampshire driver's license, which is denominated to be female.'

An on-duty Border Patrol agent patrolling the border between the U.S. and Canada in Stewartstown, New Hampshire, encountered a 2012 Honda Civic at roughly 11:30 p.m., according to the affidavit of an FBI special agent.

Daly, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, provided the agent with a New Hampshire driver's license, according to the court document. After the officer asked whether Daly used any other names, Daly allegedly "immediately drove away," prompting the officer to follow at a distance.

The affidavit explained that Daly drove to the Pittsburg Port of Entry and stopped at a closed gate. When the officer exited his vehicle, Daly attempted to drive away.

While trying to turn the vehicle around, Daly allegedly fired a handgun at the officer.

The Border Patrol agent returned fire, shooting Daly and causing the suspect to lose control of the vehicle and hit a snowbank.

A Smith & Wesson SD9 2.0 handgun and ammunition were reportedly recovered from Daly's vehicle.

The affidavit argued that there is probable cause to believe Daly committed the offenses of attempted murder of a federal officer and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.

WMUR reported that investigators have been unable to speak with Daly after the suspect was severely injured in the shooting.

The Department of Justice stated that Daly is currently receiving medical treatment at a New Hampshire hospital and is under guard.

U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan told WMUR that investigators have spoken with "people associated with the defendant."

Creegan called it "a miracle" that the Border Patrol agent was not injured.

"We're still investigating everything about this individual, including potential motivation and what could have prompted them to be in the border area at that time of night, and what would have caused them to fire at a Border Patrol agent executing routine duties," Creegan stated.

WMUR obtained court paperwork indicating that Daly was granted a name change in 2024, claiming to identify as nonbinary.

"This individual did have a previous Massachusetts driver's license that was denominated to be male and now has a New Hampshire driver's license, which is denominated to be female. So it's a reasonable assumption that the person has decided to transition their gender," Creegan added.

In January 2025, a Vermont Border Patrol agent was shot and killed while performing a traffic stop on Interstate 91. The suspects included two individuals tied to a group known as the Zizians, whose members mostly identify as transgender or nonbinary.

There are currently no confirmed connections between Daly and the Zizians.

"When you have something happen which targets a Border Patrol agent in that area, it would be a reasonable line of investigative inquiry to determine whether there is any connection to a broader network or group, because that does appear to exist — the allegations that did exist in the murder investigation involving the Border Patrol agent," Creegan told WMUR.

'Something historic': CNN analyst GOBSMACKED by how Vance polls against Nikki Haley, others

The 2028 presidential election is 34 months away, and in that time, there are sure to be plenty of surprises. There are, however, already clear signs of who may ultimately make a bid for the White House — and how they might fare in the primaries.

CNN's chief data analyst, Harry Enten, expressed surprise on Monday by how Vice President JD Vance performed in a recent poll of likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters against former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nimarata "Nikki" Haley, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and other prospects.

'The rest of the field are like going around in go-karts.'

Enten alluded to prediction market odds indicating that Vance is "running well ahead of the field" and that "nobody else is even close."

Polymarket puts Vance's chance of becoming the Republican presidential nominee in 2028 at 54%. The site has the chances of the runner-up, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, securing the nomination at 9%. This high confidence in Vance's chances is similarly expressed on the PredictIt site as well as on the federally regulated prediction market Kalshi, which suggests Vance and Rubio have a 48% and 10% chance of securing the nomination, respectively.

"JD Vance is like Mario Andretti, and Marco Rubio and the rest of the field are like going around in go-karts at this point," said Enten. "That's really what we are looking at. JD Vance is the clear, heavy favorite at this time."

Enten noted that Vance's staggering early lead reflected in the prediction markets "is not coming out of nowhere" and directed CNN talking head Sara Sidner's attention to a poll conducted in October by the University of New Hampshire.

The poll found that among those who plan to vote in the 2028 Republican presidential primary in New Hampshire, 51% said they would vote for Vance; 9% said they would vote for Haley; 8% said they would vote for Gabbard; 5% said they would vote for Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders; 4% would vote for Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.); and 3% each would vote for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis or Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

Calgary-born Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who appears poised to run as the kind of Republican President Donald Trump crushed in the 2016 and 2024 GOP primaries, proved unable to capture 1% in the poll.

"Take a look here! JD Vance at 51%!" said Enten. "The next closest is Nikki Haley, who's at 9 — who's at 9! I mean, what is that? That's 42 points ahead of the pack."

"There's a reason why he's such a heavy favorite in the prediction market so far, because if you win the GOP primary in New Hampshire, chances are, you're going to be the Republican nominee for president," added Enten.

When asked by Sidner whether it was rare to see an early lead of this magnitude, Enten said, "I looked back. Hitting 50% plus in the early New Hampshire polls for a non-sitting president — JD Vance is the only one."

"JD Vance is pulling off something historic at this time," continued Enten.

While Vance's early lead is unprecedented, the last five sitting vice presidents who ran for president all became their parties' nominees.

A straw poll was also taken earlier this month at Turning Point USA's annual AmericaFest, where widowed CEO Erika Kirk endorsed the vice president.

Blake Neff, the producer of "The Charlie Kirk Show," noted that Vance won the AmFest straw poll "by more than Donald Trump won the 2024 one we did two years ago." Whereas 82.6% of respondents previously said they wanted to see Trump as the 2024 GOP nominee, 84.2% of respondents said they wanted to see Vance as their nominee in 2028.

The UNH poll that found a majority of likely GOP voters support Vance likewise found that there is a much closer race developing across the aisle.

Among those who plan to vote in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary in New Hampshire, 19% of respondents say they would vote for former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg; 15% would vote for California Gov. Gavin Newsom; 14% would vote for New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez; 11% would vote for failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris; 8% would vote for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.); and 6% would vote for Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

Suspect in deadly Brown University shooting and fatal shooting of MIT professor found dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound

The suspect in the fatal shootings at Brown University last weekend and of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor just days later was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday night in Salem, New Hampshire, officials said.

The body of Claudio Neves Valente, 48 — a former Brown student and a Portuguese national — was found in a storage facility, WCVB-TV reported.

'We don’t know why now, why Brown, why these students, and why this classroom.'

Earlier Thursday multiple reports indicated a person of interest had been identified in the Brown shooting, which took the lives of two students and wounded nine others Saturday at the Ivy League school in Providence, Rhode Island. Authorities also were investigating possible ties between the Brown shooting and the fatal shooting Monday of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Providence police released several images and videos of a person of interest in the days following the deadly Brown shooting with no apparent luck.

But police told WCVB a witness provided investigators with a key tip: He saw someone who looked like the person of interest with a Nissan sedan displaying Florida plates.

That bit of information led Providence police to dive into a network of more than 70 street cameras operated around the city by surveillance company Flock Safety, the station said, adding that those cameras track license plates and other vehicle details.

Providence officials said the suspect then placed a Maine license plate over the rental car’s plate to help conceal his identity after he left Rhode Island for Massachusetts, WCVB reported.

The station said in a separate story that surveillance video from MIT professor Loureiro's Brookline neighborhood allegedly shows the gunman there days before the deadly shooting, according to Leah B. Foley, United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts.

Investigators said video from inside Loureiro's apartment shows Neves Valente wearing a specific set of clothes before shooting the professor in the lobby Monday, WCVB reported.

A neighbor said in a WBZ-TV video report that the fatal shooting of Loureiro was a "surprise ... and a shooting in a state where it's so hard to even have a gun?" The neighbor also said fellow neighbors noted a nearby car was "parked in the wrong direction" and "seemed to be waiting."

Hours after the Loureiro shooting, Foley said surveillance video from a storage unit facility in Salem, New Hampshire, shows the gunman wearing the same clothes seen on the Brookline cameras, the station added. Neves Valente was found dead inside the storage facility Thursday night.

Brown University President Christina Paxson said Neves Valente was enrolled at the college from the fall of 2000 to the spring of 2001, the station said, adding that he was admitted to the graduate school to study physics beginning in September 2000. Paxson said he had "no current affiliation with the university,” WCVB reported.

Neves Valente had studied at Brown on a student visa and obtained legal permanent residence status in September 2017, the station said, adding that his last known residence was in Miami.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha told WCVB there are “a lot of unknowns” in regard to motive: “We don’t know why now, why Brown, why these students, and why this classroom."

Foley said Neves Valente and Loureiro were former classmates at an academic program in Portugal between 1995 and 2000, the station noted.

Loureiro graduated in 2000 from the physics program at Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal’s premier engineering school, WCVB reported, citing his MIT faculty page.

Neves Valente in 2000 was let go from a position at the Lisbon university, the station said, citing an archive of a termination notice from the school’s then-president in February 2000.

More from WCVB:

Loureiro, 47, who was married, joined MIT in 2016 and was named last year to lead the school’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center, where he worked to advance clean energy technology and other research. The center, one of MIT’s largest labs, had more than 250 people working across seven buildings when he took the helm. He was a professor of physics and nuclear science and engineering.

Prior to the discovery of Neves Valente's body, police in Providence said the DNA of the Brown University suspected shooter had been gathered, and images and video of the person of interest matched eyewitness descriptions.

A person of interest was initially detained last weekend before law enforcement determined they had the wrong individual.

The Brown University students who were killed and wounded Saturday were studying for a final in a first-floor classroom in an older section of the engineering building when the shooter walked in and opened fire, WCVB said.

Sophomore Ella Cook, 19, and freshman Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, 18, were killed in the shooting, the station said.

Cook, whose funeral is Monday, was active in her Alabama church and served as vice president of the Brown College Republicans, WCVB said, adding that Umurzokov’s family immigrated to the U.S. from Uzbekistan when he was a child and that he wanted to be a doctor.

The station added in regard to the wounded students, six were in stable condition Thursday, and the other three had been discharged.
