Mark Levin's 'American Marxism' ends 2021 as top-selling adult trade book of the year

It's official: After debuting at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list, "American Marxism" by Radio Hall of Famer and BlazeTV host Mark Levin was the top-selling adult trade book in 2021.

Publisher Threshold Editions, a division of Simon & Schuster, said Thursday that Levin's smash hit sold more than 1.2 million copies across all formats, including print books, ebooks, and audiobooks since it went on sale July 13, 2021.

A roaring success, "American Marxism" spent 10 weeks atop the prestigious Times bestseller list and remained on the list for 16 straight weeks. The book is Levin's seventh No. 1 debut in a row and is currently in its 19th week on the Times list, Threshold said.

“We were thrilled to see BookScan’s year-end tally and commend 'American Marxism’s' #1 best-selling achievement," Jennifer Long, deputy publisher for Threshold, said.

"Levin’s book outsold not only the best-selling nonfiction titles of the year, it topped sales across both fiction and nonfiction, and it continues to sell thousands of copies each week — demonstrating the phenomenal appeal of this book,” she added.

In "American Marxism," Levin examines how Marxist ideology has influenced American society and culture, including in schools, the media, corporations, the entertainment industry, and the modern Democratic Party and Biden administration.

Levin expressed gratefulness in an interview, crediting his audience with propelling the book to No.1.

"I have an extraordinarily intelligent and loyal audience who care greatly, greatly about this country and they want to understand, as I do, what exactly is going on," Levin said. "When I write a book, I spend a lot of time on it. I do all the research. I give it a tremendous amount of thought — I'm harder on myself than most people are on me."

He added: "When I finished the book, I handed it to my wife, Julie — who's smarter than I am, she had looked at it as I was putting it together — and I said to her, 'Well honey, I don't know how well this book is going to do, but I've done the best I can to alert as many people who are willing to be alerted to this horrific threat we face from within that I call American Marxism.' And she looked at it, spent a little time on it, and she said this is going to be a big hit. I said I have no idea, but there it is."

When asked what made the book so popular, Levin said it was the subjects he covered, the substance of his explanations of how Marxist ideology has permeated through American civil society and how it is showing up in leftist movements around issues like critical race theory, climate change (what he calls a "degrowth movement"), transgenderism, and more.

"When I write a book like this, I'm trying to find answers to my own questions. So I take a journey when I write a book, I think about my audience all the time, what it is I'm trying to convey," Levin said.

"These are things I wanted to answer, and I did answer, and I think the audience wanted answers."

Levin speaks to a massive audience. His nationally syndicated radio program reaches an estimated 8.25 million people each week, according to Talkers magazine. On top of that, his Fox News program "Life, Liberty, & Levin," which airs Sunday night at 11 p.m. ET, had 1.6 million viewers on Nov. 21, demolishing the competition on CNN and MSNBC.

It's a diverse audience of millions that cannot be easily defined based on race, income, or background, Levin told TheBlaze.

"I think, I hope, I attract people who love this country. Who want it to last for generations to come, who are deeply concerned about the direction of the country. They want the best for their children and grandchildren and know that they live in the best country on the face of the earth and they're deeply blessed to do so," he said.

He added that he shares a bond with his listeners, readers, and TV viewers that's based on respect.

"Rush Limbaugh used to say to me, the number one idea you need to remember is this: Always treat your audience with respect. And I try to do that," he said.

Levin also believes that the phenomenal success of "American Marxism" is a preview of a "convulsion of liberty" that will happen next year, when the American people will go to the ballot box for a referendum on Congress and President Joe Biden's administration.

"The American Marxists among us have pushed us too far. We got a small taste of it in Virginia and New Jersey this last month. That's one battle. There's many more battles to be had," Levin said, referring to the sweeping GOP victory in Virginia's gubernatorial election and the surprising near-defeat of Democratic Gov. Phil Muprhy in New Jersey.

"I think that we start with politics, and that is winning some big races that we must win. But also, on the culture side, clawing our way back," Levin continued.
"Teachers unions have exposed themselves, the immigration movement has exposed itself. The Democrat Party has exposed itself and they've all exposed themselves as extremists and radicals, who seek to change the very nature of this country, centralize power, crush their opposition, and abuse the Bill of Rights.
"And I think I think this time they overreached, but I would also caution — these people spend 24/7, trying to figure out how to undermine our institutions and our principles and we'd be making a grave mistake if we don't remain resolute. One election is one election, we can't win them all but we're going to have to win most of them."

Mark Levin's 'American Marxism' sells more than 1 million copies, is top nonfiction book of 2021

The latest book from seven-time New York Times bestselling author and BlazeTV host Mark Levin has proven to be an astonishing success, selling more than 1 million copies across all formats in just 10 weeks on sale.

Levin's ninth book, "American Marxism," has claimed the No. 1 spot on the New York Times' bestseller list for 10 straight weeks and has held a top 10 place among the Publisher's Weekly, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestseller lists consistently since its debut at No. 1, according to publisher Threshold Editions, a division of Simon & Schuster.

"We are thrilled about the astounding success of AMERICAN MARXISM and its enormous appeal to the general public," deputy publisher for Threshold Jennifer Long said in a statement Thursday. "We applaud Mark Levin for his compelling scholarship and work. Bookscan reports AMERICAN MARXISM is currently the top-selling nonfiction book of 2021, and we anticipate it staying high on bestseller lists through the rest of the year."

In "American Marxism," Levin takes a close look at how Marxist ideology has influenced American society and culture, including in schools, the media, corporations, the entertainment industry, and the Democratic Party and Biden administration.

Publisher Threshold stated: "In American Marxism, Levin seeks to rally the American people to defend their liberty, traditions, families, and the Constitution from a counterrevolution to the American Revolution that seeks to destroy the existing civil society. Levin explains how the core elements of Marxist ideology have been uniquely tailored to and applied to American society and are now pervasive throughout the culture, forming a variety of sub-movements surrounding such issues as 'climate change,' 'genderism,' 'critical race theory,' etc."

Levin, a nationally syndicated conservative talk-radio host, the host of LevinTV, founder and chairman of the Landmark Legal Foundation, and host of Fox News' "Life, Liberty, & Levin" is the author of seven consecutive No. 1 New York Times bestsellers: "Liberty and Tyranny", "Ameritopia", "The Liberty Amendments", "Plunder and Deceit", "Rediscovering Americanism", "Unfreedom of the Press", and now "American Marxism." "Liberty and Tyranny," released in 2009, was a highly influential book in the growing Tea Party movement and sold more than 1.5 million copies, spending three weeks at No.1 on the New York Times' bestseller list.

While no small feat, the success of Levin's latest work has come to be expected as Levin remains one of the most popular and influential voices in the conservative movement and is widely recognized by many conservatives as a thought leader.

In July, Levin explained to Fox News host Sean Hannity how the record-smashing sales figures for "American Marxism" reminded him of the organic movement that rose up to oppose the Obama administration and support conservative Republicans in the 2010 takeover of the House of Representatives.

"The silent majority is not going to be silent anymore. The American people are furious with what's happened to their country — and by 'American people' I mean all American people who love this country regardless of their color, their religion, their background — red-blooded Americans, they are sick and tired of what they've seen in the first six months of this administration," Levin said.

He predicted that in the 2022 midterm elections, like in 2010 before, Democrats supporting the "American Marxists" in the Biden administration will get "blown out."

According to Bookscan reports, "American Marxism is currently the top-selling nonfiction book of 2021 and is projected to finish the year in that position.

Report: Mark Levin set to return to No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list with 'American Marxism'

The eighth book from New York Times bestselling author and 2018 Radio Hall of Fame inductee Mark Levin will grab the No. 1 spot on the Times' bestseller list, according to the Washington Examiner.

The BlazeTV host's latest work, "American Marxism," will reportedly debut at No.1 in the New York Times bestseller list for nonfiction hardcover books and ebooks.

Additionally, the book is expected to be a top seller in Canada on the Globe & Mail list and currently sits in the No. 2 spot for all bestselling books on Amazon.com.

Levin's sales are already breaking records, according to the Examiner:

We're told that American Marxism, which was long an Amazon presale No. 1, sold a record-smashing 330,000 hardcover copies in its first week and about another 70,000 in other formats, including ebooks and e-audio books.

This makes seven straight New York Times bestsellers for Levin, and American Marxism is already rivaling his top seller, Liberty and Tyranny.

Levin has authored six New York Times bestselling books, hosts a nationally syndicated radio program, a Fox News show, and "LevinTV" on BlazeTV, using each of these platforms to advocate for the principles of the American Founding and the Constitution against attacks from the statist left.

In "American Marxism," Levin examines how the core elements of Marxist ideology have pervaded American society and culture, including in schools, the media, corporations, the entertainment industry, and of course the Democratic Party and the Biden administration. This book addresses critical race theory and the Green New Deal, discusses the censorship of conservatives on social media, and offers ideas on how to confront the left and win back the nation.

"The counter-revolution to the American Revolution is in full force. And it can no longer be dismissed or ignored for it is devouring our society and culture, swirling around our everyday lives, and ubiquitous in our politics, schools, media, and entertainment," Levin writes.

In a recent interview with the Examiner, he called on regular Americans to take action and fight to conserve the Constitution and the liberties which it defends.

"If you love individualism and freedom, if you love opportunity, capitalism, if you love this nation, and you appreciate everything that's come before, the shoulders that we stand on, then it's time to step up, it's here and it's now and they are devouring this society," said Levin.

"We just need to have a national movement that pushes back," he added. "The point of this book is to start, or at least contribute, to such a movement."

New York Times appears to snub Daily Wire's Michael Knowles from bestseller list, doesn't list top-selling book 'Speechless'

The New York Times appears to have snubbed conservative writer and Daily Wire host Michael Knowles' new top-selling book, "Speechless," from its prestigious bestseller list.

Knowles' book, which was released June 22 and sold nearly 18,000 copies in its first week, is the bestselling nonfiction book in the country, according to Publisher's Weekly, which collects data from NPD BookScan. The book leads works by New York Times bestselling authors Bill O'Reilly (second place with almost 13,000 sold) and Malcolm Gladwell (third place with 9,000 books sold).

Yet the Daily Wire first reported that "Speechless" is notably absent from the Times' weekly bestseller list, which includes both O'Reilly's and Gladwell's books. The Times lists O'Reilly's book, "Killing the Mob," in first place. Other works that sold far fewer copies that week than Knowles' book were included, like "On Juneteenth," which sold only 4,474 copies, or "Somebody's Daughter," a "memoir about growing up a poor Black girl in Indiana with a family fragmented by incarceration" that wasn't even counted in the top 25 of Publisher's Weekly's list.

According to the New York Times' methodology, the paper collects data on a "confidential basis" from select booksellers and then estimates total sales by extrapolation.

"The panel of reporting retailers is comprehensive and reflects sales in tens of thousands of stores of all sizes and demographics across the United States," the paper claims.

Knowles' publisher, Regnery, said something was wrong if Knowles' book outsold all the other books tracked by BookScan but didn't crack the New York Times' top 15.

"One result of the BookScan service, which now reports almost all retail book sales, is that there are two kinds of bestseller lists: those that reflect how many books have been sold, and the New York Times list, which reflects — who knows what? The omission (once again) of the week's bestselling book from the Times' so-called bestseller list confirms that fact-free journalism has found a comfortable home at the former newspaper of record," Regnery President Tom Spence said.

A spokeswoman for the Times told the Daily Wire: "The sales of the book did not meet the standards for inclusion this week. Our best sellers team will continue to track this title and will rank it, if its sales meet our standards for inclusion for future weeks. Recent lists have included other books published by Regenery [sic] including those by Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz."

She did not say how many copies the Times thinks Knowles sold based on its data.

"The New York Times's best-seller lists are based on a detailed analysis of book sales from a wide range of retailers who provide us with specific and confidential context of their sales each week. These standards are applied consistently, across the board in order to provide Times readers our best assessment of what books are the most broadly popular at that time," the spokeswoman said.

Conservative writers have previously criticized the New York Times for ignoring or removing bestselling books from its list seemingly arbitrarily. The Times has also been known to artificially boost books by leftist authors, such as in 2019 when former Obama administration adviser Valerie Jarrett's book made its bestseller list despite being ranked 1,030th on Amazon.
