NASCAR driver reinstated after completing 'diversity and inclusion training' for liking a George Floyd meme

NASCAR has reinstated driver Noah Gragson after he successfully completed his re-education in diversity and inclusion, NASCAR announced, a little over a month after he was suspended for liking a meme about George Floyd on Instagram.

“Noah Gragson has completed diversity and inclusion training with our partners at RISE,” a NASCAR spokesperson said, adding that the group recommended his reinstatement, restoring his member privileges.

RISE describes itself as "a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations."

Gragson took to his social media to thank NASCAR for giving him a second chance.

"I want to express my sincere gratitude to NASCAR for reinstating me. Over the past several weeks, I have dedicated myself to personal growth and reflection, and I believe I have become a better person because of it," Gragson said on his X page. "I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family and the NASCAR industry."

"I am now more focused and committed than ever to representing my future team in the best way possible. I’m eager to get back behind the wheel and compete at the highest level, giving it my all on and off the track. Thank you to everyone who have been a part of this journey, and I can’t wait to make the most of this second chance."

Gragson was suspended indefinitely by his team, the Legacy Motor Club, and NASCAR in August 2023 for liking a meme that mocked George Floyd using a parody song.

After the suspension on August 5, 2023, it took just three days for his team to announce that he would miss at least the next two races.

By August 10, Gragson and his team had announced his request for release so that he could pass a diversity training program.

The CEO of the Legacy Motor Club, Cal Wells III, said at the time that he was "proud" that Gragson had "taken ownership of his actions."

According to Autoweek, NASCAR tailors its reinstatement programs specifically to the offense committed by each individual.

For example in 2020, driver Kyle Larson was suspended for allegedly racist remarks. His reinstatement process included hiring a diversity coach, speaking with prominent black athletes, and listening to various members of black communities across the country about their experiences.

'Don't be ashamed you are using, be empowered that you are using safely': NYC Health Department issues eyebrow-raising ad about drug use

A New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene ad about drug use features a statement in quotes that declares, "Don't be ashamed you are using, be empowered that you are using safely" — the quote appears to be attributed to an individual named "Florence."

"Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that can be found in heroin, cocaine, crack, methamphetamine, ketamine, and pressed pills," the health department explains on the poster. "Fentanyl increases the risk of overdose especially among people who do not regularly use opioids."

The ad provides suggestions about how to avoid an overdose — among the tips, the department suggests that people "Avoid using alone and take turns," "Start with a small dose and go slowly," and "Test your drugs using fentanyl test strips."

New York City council minority leader Joe Borelli expressed his disapproval on social media. "No, @nycHealthy, heroin addiction is not empowering," he tweeted. "This is the opposite of 'harm reduction.' This normalizes injecting deadly life-changing drugs," he wrote. "This is twisted."

The Florida Department of Health tweeted, "This ain't it, @nychealthy."

"Our country is failing," Mollie Hemingway tweeted.

"No, please be ashamed you are using; seek help; and stop before you kill yourself and break your family’s heart," Harmeet Dhillon tweeted.

But while many criticized the ad, others argued in favor of the message it conveys.

"Shame is a useless emotion that often keeps ppl from investing in themselves or others. We should be celebrating ppl who are taking the steps in this poster and encouraging those who are not, to adopt these practices. Thanks @nycHealthy for contributing to ppl’s self worth," Kassandra Frederique tweeted — New York City Department of Health spokesman Patrick Gallahue retweeted Frederique's post.

"Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times stronger than morphine," according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. "Fentanyl is added to heroin to increase its potency, or be disguised as highly potent heroin. Many users believe that they are purchasing heroin and actually don’t know that they are purchasing fentanyl – which often results in overdose deaths."

New report shows how the incestuous ties between CNN and the Cuomos were worse than you thought

An explosive new report in Rolling Stone details how former CNN chief Jeff Zucker pulled strings at the network to reward his friends and boost ratings by manipulating the news.

Rolling Stone's Tatiana Siegel spoke to more than 36 sources and obtained text messages exchanged between Zucker, his subordinate and romantic partner Allison Gollust, and disgraced ex-New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo that show how Cuomo leveraged his relationship with his former staffer, Gollust, for positive coverage at CNN, while Zucker was more than happy to go along with it to make "great TV."

The report shows how CNN executives grossly violated journalistic ethics, including an example of how Gollust, who ran the network's marketing and communications departments, literally cheered for Cuomo after she secured TV appearances for him to attack former President Donald Trump's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

EXCLUSIVE: Texts & 36 sources tell the true story of how CNN's Jeff Zucker & his cronies manipulated the news.

That includes *literally* cheerleading for their favorite pols like Andrew Cuomo. As one exec texted the former guv: “Cuomo-W. Trump-L.” https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/jeff-zucker-cnn-resign-affair-cuomo-trump-1319698/ …
— Noah Shachtman (@Noah Shachtman) 1647016705

Siegel recounts how on March 28, 2020, Trump spoke to reporters about the possibility of imposing a short-term "quarantine" in New York, New Jersey, and some parts of Connecticut to slow the spread of the coronavirus. "This would be an enforceable quarantine. You know, I’d rather not do it, but we may need it,” Trump said at the time, giving reporters an update after he discussed the measures with Cuomo, who was still the governor at this point.

Later that day, Cuomo was asked about the president's comments during his daily press briefing, and he dismissed what Trump said. “From a medical point of view, I don’t know what you’d be accomplishing,” he told reporters.

But Rolling Stone reveals that after this press conference, Cuomo texted Gollust, his former communications director who was now an executive vice-president at CNN, writing, "Ask Jeff to call me plz," apparently referring to CNN President Jeff Zucker.

While Zucker's representatives told Rolling Stone there's "no record" of a conversation between him and the governor that day, Gollust secured a TV hit for Cuomo on CNN that night, discussing Trump's quarantine proposal.

Cuomo told CNN's audience that a quarantine would cause "chaos and mayhem" in the tri-state area, predicting that it would "paralyze the economy."

Though the governor would later become infamous for imposing some of the strictest COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions in the country, in March 2020 on CNN he argued that Trump's quarantine "would shock the economic markets in a way we’ve never seen before.”

After the segment, Rolling Stone reports Gollust texted Cuomo: "Well done ... Cuomo-W. Trump-L."

In another example of how Gollust acted to benefit Cuomo, Rolling Stone reports that she invited the governor to come on CNN's "New Day" to "squash" a rumor that Trump was preparing to shut down New York City because of the pandemic. In a text message, she reportedly told Cuomo, "I’m pretty sure I stopped being your publicist 8 years ago, but apparently I still am." In another exchange, Cuomo reportedly asked Gollust to critique his performance at a press conference.

A spokeswoman for Gollust called these exchanges, "innocuous, mundane conversations that are being spun into a nefarious tale." But the spokeswoman admitted that Gollust once asked Gov. Cuomo to help her friend push through the city bureacracy to open a birthing center in Manhattan. And she also confirmed that another time Gollust asked Cuomo for a favor involving Billy Joel, who'd once hosted a Cuomo campaign fundraiser. Gollust had reportedly texted Cuomo, “I never ask you for favors, but ...,” to which Cuomo replied, “Yes, u do ask me for favors, and that’s okay. It’s mutual.”

All of this and more happened under Zucker's watch and reportedly with his approval. Rolling Stone details how Zucker enjoyed a close relationship with both Gov. Cuomo and his younger brother Chris Cuomo, a personal friend whom Zucker hired as a CNN anchor starting at $6 million salary. (Both Cuomos have lost their previous jobs amid sexual harassment scandals, though each has denied the respective allegations against them.) Zucker violated CNN's conflict-of-interest protocols to have Chris interview his brother, the governor, all in the pursuit of higher ratings because Andrew Cuomo's star was rising as a possible Democratic challenger to President Donald Trump, Rolling Stone's sources say.

On top of that, Zucker was in a decades-long sexual relationship with Gollust at the same time he was advancing her career at CNN. And Gollust in turn was working to promote Cuomo at the network, sending his preferred topics to CNN producers, just like for the March 2020 interview, according to Rolling Stone.

Rolling Stone suggests the text messages obtained by Rolling Stone are likely to be among the 100,000 texts and email exchanges reviewed by CNN's internal probe into Chris Cuomo's ethics violations. The investigation was completed on Feb. 13. WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar said in a statement the probe was "comprehensive and definitive," and said it had "found violations of Company policies, including CNN’s News Standards and Practices, by Jeff Zucker, Allison Gollust, and Chris Cuomo.”

Zucker left CNN on Feb. 2, 2022, citing his inappropriate affair with Gollust but making no mention of the numerous allegations of serial ethics violations that are now coming to light. Gollust was ousted from CNN on Feb. 15, after the internal probe turned up evidence of her unethical behavior.

Liberal media turn on CNN darling Chris Cuomo after bombshell report sheds light on cable host's shocking efforts to protect disgraced brother

Liberal journalists are quickly turning on Chris Cuomo and CNN, demanding to know why the popular anchor is still employed at the network amid new revelations that appear to show just how involved the CNN staple may have been in attempting to protect his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) from scandals — including lurid sexual harassment allegations.

What's the very brief history here?

A newly released testimony from the New York State Attorney General's Office shows that the CNN anchor worked tirelessly with his brother's handlers to stave off bad publicity from sexual misconduct allegations.

The report adds that he even leaned on media sources who dared speak on his brother's purported misgivings.

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday released transcripts and exhibits from the investigation into the former governor, which include — but are not limited to — the CNN anchor's sworn testimony to investigators in which he admitted to using media contacts to attain information about his brother's sexual harassment accusers, in addition influencing those in the media who were covering the ever-developing saga.

Despite reports, Cuomo in August insisted, "I never made calls to the press about my brother's situation."

In a statement on the newly released documents, a spokesperson for CNN told the Daily Mail said, "The thousands of pages of additional transcripts and exhibits that were released today by the NY Attorney General deserve a thorough review and consideration. We will be having conversations and seeking additional clarity about their significance as they relate to CNN over the next several days."

At the time of this writing, the CNN anchor has yet to issue any public statements on the new developments.

What are people saying?

Rolling Stone ran a critical story on Monday titled, "Chris Cuomo Caught Doing Something That Would Get Any Other Journalist Fired."

Roling Stone editor-in-chief Noah Schachtman added, "If this story is accurate, it describes a series of shocking ethical breaches — fireable offenses at any other news outlet."

New York Times columnist Jane Coaston appeared on "The View" on Tuesday, where she said, "This is a massive ethical breach. If you work at a news agency like I do, we do, you understand that there are just basic things like if you found out that an intern did this they'd be gone a second after these text messages came in. This is an abuse of power."

She added, "The only reason that Chris Cuomo was able to do any of this, get sources on some of [his brother's] accusers ... you see in these text messages how it is not just Chris Cuomo, to be clear. You see people talking about these accusers like they are just nuisances."

Co-host Joy Behar agreed, and said, "I understand the inclination to help your brother ... but you don’t use your position in the media to help him. Whether he should be fired, that’s for [CNN president] Jeff Zucker to decide. There’s a lot in this story that doesn’t feel right, although I do appreciate the Cuomo family very much."

Slate on Tuesday published an article titled "It's Time for CNN to Can Chris Cuomo for Being Full of Crap."

The Atlantic ran an article titled "Chris Cuomo Must Go."

Matt Pearce, a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, added, "This is an embarrassment to journalism."

Biggest lie of the night? Joe Biden says no one lost their health insurance under Obamacare

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden told a brazen lie about Obamacare Thursday evening during the final presidential debate in Nashville, Tennessee, claiming that no one lost their private health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.

President Donald Trump attacked Biden's health care plan, accusing the Democratic nominee's plan of being "socialized medicine" that would terminate "180 million" private insurance plans.

In response, Biden said that if the Supreme Court declares Obamacare unconstitutional he will pass new health care legislation "with a public option." He declared his support for private health insurance, arguing that a public option would increase competition by giving private health insurance plans something to compete against.

Then he told a whopper.

"The reason why I had such a fight with 20 candidates for the nomination was I support private insurance," Biden said. "Not one single person with private insurance would lose their insurance under my plan, nor did they under Obamacare. They did not lose their insurance unless they chose they wanted to go to something else."

Biden's claim is demonstrably false. After the Affordable Care Act took effect in 2013, more than 5 million Americans received cancellation letters from their insurance companies, informing them that the health insurance plans they had did not meet the standards of Obamacare.

President Obama's promise that "if you like your health care pan, you can keep your health care plan" was rated as PolitiFact's Lie of the Year in 2013.

"So this fall, as cancellation letters were going out to approximately 4 million Americans, the public realized Obama's breezy assurances were wrong," Politifact wrote.

In fact, NBC News reported in 2013 that the Obama administration knew that millions of Americans would lose their health insurance under Obamacare. While the Affordable Care Act had a provision that allowed for some health insurance polices to be "grandfathered" in, meaning consumers could keep their plans even if they didn't meet the essential benefits mandates required by Obamacare, the provision was written so narrowly that many of the plans didn't qualify.

At the debate, Biden promised that his plan to expand Obamacare with a public option would also reduce insurance premiums. But the Obama administration made similar claims about Obamacare, and the truth was that Obamacare significantly increased health insurance premiums by as much as 24.4% beyond what they would have been if costs rose naturally, according to one study.

Many individuals who remember having their insurance plans cancelled spoke out on social media.

Biden confronted for hiding position on court-packing after saying voters don't deserve to know

Joe Biden was once again confronted on Saturday over his position on court-packing, which he has refused to make public.

This time, however, the former vice president repeated a falsehood about the Republican Party while still refusing to tell voters where he stands on court-packing.

What's the background?

On Friday, Biden told a Las Vegas reporter that voters don't deserve to know his position on court-packing.

The reporter asked, "Well, sir, don't the voters deserve to know?"

"No, they don't," Biden responded. "I'm not gonna play his game, he'd love me to talk about, and I've already said something on court-packing, he'd love that to be the discussion instead of what he's doing now. He's about to make a pick in the middle of an election, first time it's ever been done, first time in history it's ever been done."

What is Biden saying now?

When confronted by reporters outside his campaign airplane on Saturday over why he does not think voters should know his position on court-packing prior to the election, Biden repeated a falsehood about the Republican Party.

"The only court packing going on right now is going on with Republicans packing the court right now," Biden said.

"It's not constitutional what they're doing," he added. "I'm going to stay focused on it so we don't take our eyes off the ball here."

Court-packing became a major issue in the election after Republicans vowed to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court prior to Election Day. Democrats responded by threatening to expand the Supreme Court and pack it with ideologically liberal justices if they return to power.

Of course, court-packing, which was once attempted by former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, would remove partiality from the court.

But as Biden has continued to dodge answering questions about court-packing, Democrats have been circulating a falsehood about the Republican Party — that they're packing courts already.

Such claims are not true.

By definition, court-packing involves expanding the number of justices on a given court. In 1937, FDR advocated expanding the Supreme Court, via what is now referred to as his "court-packing plan," to obtain favorable rulings after significant portions of his New Deal were ruled unconstitutional.

Republicans, of course, have not expanded the number of seats on any federal court. They have, however, taken advantage of their Senate majority during a Republican presidency by confirming more than 200 conservative-leaning justices on every level of the federal judiciary.
