Demi Lovato quietly adds 'she/her' to her list of pronouns, joining 'they' and 'them'

Actress and musician Demi Lovato has quietly added "she/her" to her list of personal pronouns, which include "they/them."

In 2021, Lovato announced that she is both pansexual and non-binary.

What are the details?

Lovato recently updated her pronouns on her Instagram page to add "she/her" to her previously used pronouns.

Just weeks earlier, the 29-year-old pop star shared an Instagram photo of herself with a caption that read, "You call me they, but I'm still daddy's girl[.]"

In 2021, Lovato announced her non-binary status, and said, "Over the past year-and-a-half, I've been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I've had the revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I'll be officially changing my pronouns to they/them."

She added, "I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and am still discovering."

Following her announcement, she said, "If you misgender me – that’s OK. I accidentally misgender myself sometimes! It’s a huge transition to change the pronouns I’ve used for myself my entire life. And it’s difficult to remember sometimes!"

“As long as you keep trying to respect my truth, and as long as I remember my truth, that shift will come naturally," she added. "I’m just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process.”

Lovato continued, and acknowledged the fact that pronoun changes might be foreign to some people.

"I felt the need to post this because I often find that the change in pronouns can be confusing for some, and difficult to remember for others," she explained. "It’s all about your intention. It’s important to me that you try, but if you make a mistake, it’s okay remember that I love you, and to keep going.”

Demi Lovato is now ‘non-binary’ — after announcing pansexuality in March

Entertainer Demi Lovato came out as "non-binary" on social media early Wednesday morning.

What are the details?

Lovato shared the news in a video shared to Twitter, and captioned it, "Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I've spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you ... you've seen the good, the bad, & everything in between."

"Not only has my life been a journey for myself, I was also living for those on the other side of the cameras," Lovato admitted.

Lovato, a former Disney movie star and musician, implored fans and supporters to use the terms "they" or "them" when discussing or referring to the entertainer.

The decision and subsequent announcement, Lovato explained, came after a lot of "healing and self-reflective work."

Lovato wrote, "This has come after a lot of healing & self-reflective work. I'm still learning & coming into myself, & I don't claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opened another level of vulnerability for me."

Lovato concluded the thread, "I'm doing this for those out there that haven't been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way xox."

What else?

Lovato announced in March her pansexual orientation and an attraction to "anything, really."

In a recent interview with podcast host Joe Rogan, the entertainer said, "I'm part of the [LGBTQ+] alphabet mafia and proud."

Lovato broke up with fiancée Max Ehrich in 2019 after admitting to being "too queer" to settle down with a man.

"I felt a lot of shame because growing up in Texas as a Christian, that's very frowned upon," Lovato recalled. "Any attraction that I ever had toward a female at a young age, I shut it down before I even let myself process what I was feeling."

The former Disney star added, "Regardless if drama is happening or not, I am too gay to marry a man right now. I don't know if that will change in 10 years and I don't know if that'll never change, but I love accepting myself."

"I've always known I was hella queer, but I have fully embraced it," Lovato added.

'My spirit is fluid': Courtney Stodden comes out as 'nonbinary'

Reality show personality Courtney Stodden announced on social media that she was identifying as "nonbinary," and did not identify as a woman anymore.

The model and social media influencer said in the Instagram post that her preferred pronouns were "They/them/theirs."

"I don't Identify as she or her. I've never felt like I ever fit in anywhere," Stodden explained.

"I was bullied horribly in school because I was different. The other girls never understood me. It got so bad that my mom pulled me out of school. And still, i don't fit in. I never really connected with anyone my age," Stodden added.

"My spirit is fluid with a kaleidoscope of color," the 26-year-old concluded.

A nonbinary person is one who has no official gender designation and rejects the traditional male/female gender dichotomy.

I love all genderless angels with my entire heart. #nonbinary

"I love all genderless angels with my entire heart," Stodden tweeted after her announcement.

Stodden went on to explain the announcement in a statement to Variety.

"I'm excited to begin to truly start expressing myself without worry of others' judgments or opinions," the actress wrote. "I've lived too long hiding from who I really am. I'm so excited for everyone to see my true self creatively and spiritually."

Stodden first made headlines in 2011 when she married Doug Hutchison, a 51-year-old Hollywood actor, when she was only 16 years old. Her mother signed off on the controversial relationship after citing his Christian faith. The couple divorced two and a half years later, reconciled, but divorced again in 2020.

Stodden later claimed that Hutchison continued to court teenagers after their relationship ended, an accusation he denied. In a comment to TheBlaze in 2020, Stodden called Hutchison a "sociopath."
